I've commented this before, i find it weird how the Bengals manage their roster, they seem to be very inconsistent in how they evaluate and give playing time to some players, one one side they couldn't wait to play Carter and Rivers, when at least one of them was clearly not ready and you could argue you had better or at least safer options in the other, then you had a player in the PS that has played better than others in Davis, and now another example in Jackson, weird that he basically needed to ask for a trade to get snaps, in a situation where a lot of times would force playing time to earlier round picks, and there a few more examples of this. What do you think it's the reason?, obviously difficult to know, not being actually inside the building

The lack of proper player skillset management is unreal.
I think the bengals (and probably most teams tbf) are big on guys showing they want it. Maybe Jackson is slacking off in the film room or practice. Maybe he’s got a bad attitude. Maybe he just looks uninterested in the building. Who even knows.
Some guys just hate practicing/prep but when it’s game time, the switch is flipped.
Its been clear since last November that Jackson is going to be the anchor of this D Line going forward.
Thr fact that ge spent the first half+ of the season as a healthy scratch is damn travesty.
Might b a hot take but I feel the same way about someone like Burton on offense. Not sure wtf is going on with him, n hope he figures it out (if there even is something to figure out), but the dude can ball. if you’re not going to play him and you keep benching him because of “character” or whatever, just cut/trade him.
He was playing well and showing potential at the end of last year. Some dudes are simply gamers. Coaching mistake
Zac has always said you have to do the right things off the field as well as on the field to play. We don’t know what goes on behind the scenes and I’m sure Al Golden feels the same. I hated the pick but thought he showed promise last year so hopefully he continues to see more time.
Jackson has a quick step and plays like a penetrating 3T but the Bengals saw him as a NT simply because of his body. He’s good but they probably will continue to play him out of position.
Remember this post when you guys shit on Burton.
Out of curiosity, how does this rank amongst the league? I don’t have a PFF sub to be able to see. Is this league average, above, below? Obviously we should be playing our best players, but I’d love to know where our best performer sits in regard to the league.
The only constant is Zac.
After the flashes last year and a solid camp this year, the talk of him potentially not making the team caught me off guard. Some of the beat reporters were saying it and I thought there was no way. But based on the healthy scratches, it must have really been a decent possibility. Complete stupidity if it was.
Still, Jackson has only been getting a limited amount of snaps the last few weeks, while Slaton has struggled for much of the season. I’d like to see him cut into Slaton’s snaps more going forward.
PFF grades mean absolutely nothing in such a small sample size. When you come on the field completely fresh and the opposing offense has already played 50 snaps, yeah it might be a little easier to perform better. That doesn’t mean he has the stamina or ability to keep up that performance throughout the entire game.
We saw the exact same thing with Cody Ford. When he has to come on in a pinch, he looks perfectly fine. But he cannot be relied upon to play at a quality level throughout an entire game. That’s why he’s a backup.
My guess is that coaches have already identified this in practice.
