  1. Damn, those mid 90s teams were my intro to the NBA. RIP big man, you helped me learn to love the game and you will be missed

  2. When I was a young kid I decided to start collecting basketball cards and bought a pack of 40 from the local card shop and in that pack, among some other cool things like a Kobe rookie card that my brother later decided to fold into fourths, was a cool looking holo card featuring EC and because of that card he was my favorite player. I still have that card in a box in the attic.

  3. Always remember him and that team my formative years were spent on KCAL9 watching the Lakers

  4. I don’t care that they never won a title but that 96-98 lakers team my favorite team ever

  5. I used to run into Elden Campbell at the UPS store by my office. This is such a bummer. RIP.

  6. As a 13 year old white boy in the South Bay, I’d fight you in 1997 if you didn’t think my dude was elite.

    God bless EC

  7. Damn. That’s really youth.

RIP big man. That young core was a lot of fun to watch (at least for me).

  8. Oh no! I remember him so well when I first started getting into the Lakers in the late 90’s. Was a big fan. How sad. Rip EC.

  9. Anyone have any idea if this is true? I assume Ced would not post it unless he knew directly but there’s literally nothing about this anywhere online.

  10. I met him when I was like 10 at Byron Scott’s basketball camp, I got to ask a question and the only thing my little brain could think of was “can you touch the backboard without jumping?” He just chuckled and touched it. Very cool guy RIP

  11. Just had a flashback of Elden going crazy during a nationally televised game in 1997. We finally got on national tv because we had Shaq, but he was injured at least half the season so Elden had to step up. The game Im thinking of was against the Sonics who had a much better record. At one point in the fourth Elden hit a three, which was probably the first of his career. The crowd went insane and the Lakers wound up winning against the odds. In school the next day everyone was talking about even my English teacher. Kind of amazing to think so many people in LA being excited about a mid season NBA game, but in those days a lot of people just had like 6 channels. As you get older you lose these kinds of memories or they become distorted and hazy and unreliable. You have to hold on to what you can. RIP Elden.

  12. I really liked him as a player! I still remember that monster 40 point effort filling in for Shaq against the Knicks.

Edit: NOTHING anywhere about him dying though. I really hope this was a hoax!

  13. RIP to the left handed dunks that would clank out because his hands are too small.

  14. What’s crazy is he’s been on my mind for no reason the last 2 weeks. Rest in peace OG you were part of my first Lakers experiences

  15. Wtf. Taken way too young. Was always a fan, and it was fun the odd game where his talent would shine and you’d think you were watching the best center in the league. Didn’t happen too often but he had it in him.

  16. The squads he was on were bad ass and i loved when he would play beyond expectations. I remember he put up like 40 on the Knicks. A quiet solid big man who held it down and helped make the 90s in LA hella fun.

  17. Is there any reputable report of this other than Ceballos? No reporter has verified this and it’s been over 4 hours.

  18. i will always remember elden’s weird way of running up and down the court on the balls of his feet, heels never touching the ground when in motion, distinctively goofy…

  19. Oh no! Fuck man, Elden Campbell was one of my favorite Lakers as a kid. Dude could get up for those lobs back in the day. I always have the memory of him dunking the ball on a fast break at the Forum against that Barkley KJ Suns team in the playoff series that we almost upset them in. The crowd was going nuts. The Suns were reeling and called time out and Purple Haze started playing over the PA. I’ve seen this franchise win 8 championships in my lifetime as a fan and have many cherished memories, but for that team that got eliminated in the first round but showed so much heart, I’ve always remembered that moment and how good it made me feel. Rest in peace Elden. 🙏💜💛

  20. Elden and I went to the same highschool, years apart , same school as Byron Scott and Lisa Leslie… Someone posted he passed on the alumni page . No details … Damn

  21. This one blindsided the fuck out of me. Loved Elden!

The pre Shaq n Kobe teams were must see TV!

I remember the early years as Shaq’s teammate he played like an all-star every time Shaq was off the floor or out with an injury. Also a weird part of me was proud of him the way he contributed for the hated Pistons in the last NBA Finals Shaq and Kobe would ever play as teammates!

When big E brought his A-Game he had quite the bag in the post! (face up game/back to the basket game/drop step/great off hand/sneaky first step/great lob threat/great shot blocker/rebounder etc).

I vividly recall him killing Ewing and the Knicks back in the OG NBA on NBC DAYS.

Also remember him going toe to toe with Barkley and causing all kinds of problems for him in the playoffs when we were heavy underdogs and blew the 2-0 series lead losing 3 straight games after stealing 2 in Phoenix.

RIP 41, give Kob, Uncle Chicky, The Logo, and the rest of the fallen Lakers our best in The Purple&Gold section above the clouds.
