Alex DeBrincat, Moritz Sedier, Todd McLellan Post Game Comments vs. BOS | Dec. 2, 2025
Um yeah, I think we came off came out to a better start. Um obviously getting a couple in the first period um helps us build our game and uh you know play with confidence for the rest of the game. How key was it to get out of power goal so quickly our first chance there especially after we went 0 for five in the previous game there. Yeah, it’s big. I think um you know over the season we have um you know some good power plays and um end up not scoring. So, um, you know, it’s nice to put that one in and obviously it ends up being the the game winner. So, um, that’s nice. I think we can be more consistent on the power play as well and, um, you know, try not to have games where we do goal for five and, um, you know, try to be a little bit more consistent. Did it get more interesting at the end than maybe you wanted it to be or Yeah, for sure. Um, yeah, it’s it’s going to happen. Um, you know, I think it’s it’s obviously nice we had a little bit of cushion, but um, you know, a few mistakes end up making it a closer game than it should have been. Much needed relief though, especially with the 16 game trip coming up to win your last game at home here. Yeah, for sure. I think um, you know, we got to take advantage of home games and um, you know, for the most part, we’ve been good at home. couple um you know duds, but overall we’ve been pretty good and we got to keep that up and obviously um have that good road mentality um for these next six games and um come out strong there as well. When they got to 32 in the in the second period um Gibby makes a big save and then Ben comes down at the other end and jumps into a play and scores. How big was that sequence? Yeah, it’s huge. I think that’s a um you know momentum change right there. I think they had a little bit of momentum and um you know Ben comes up big, Larks makes a good play and um you know get that 4-2 lead, two goal lead back and um you know makes it a lot easier on us. You and Patrick had a little run with Andrew Cop on your line last season and obviously now again as well. What what do you think works about the way the three of you complent each other? Yeah, I think Copper’s good at at being net front and um you know, winning those low battles and getting pucks back for us and um you know, obviously Kener just does his thing. So, um it’s nice he’s got some speed up the middle and um can attack the net and and he’s a smart player. So, um I think we’ve um maybe took a couple games, but I think we’re finding our stride and I’m hoping to keep that going. Looked like you had better team defense overall in Boston and again first period tonight. How do you build on that? Yeah, I think it’s just the little details and um you know, coming ready to play. I think um you know, maybe sometimes during this season we haven’t had that. So, it’s nice to come out to um you know, good first period. I think you know, overall this season, we’ve had a tough time scoring in the first period and it’s nice to get that lead and um you know, have that confidence for the rest of the game. Two more points for Kane tonight. You obviously play with him for a long time on two different teams now. How how cool is it to see him kind of inch closer to that record for most points by US more player? Yeah, it’s awesome. um you know, he’s definitely deserves it and and creates so much stuff out there for for his teammates. So, um you know, when he’s got the puck, you just try to get open and um you know, watch him do his magic. So, um it’s been fun to to be with him for this long and um you know, hopefully he he passes that pretty soon with you guys tonight. They will you all be back in a few weeks? Um yeah, very uh I think it was a really good response. Um against a very good team too. Um we had the answers ready right from the start. Um came out really good, really good game plan, executed very well. Um and then really just uh buried our chances and um really focused on defense and kind of clicked today. The improved team defense in Boston and maybe through two periods tonight, not so much a third. How can you guys keep building on that to that kind of structure? Yeah, we just got to keep it to the outside. Every team will have uh have their chances um and their and their moments. It’s just about to limit them um as little as possible. Um other than that, I think we we just let Gibby see the puck a lot and um with two good goalies that that usually um takes care of itself. They started out the the third with some pressure there and then you got the power play scored right away. How big of a turning point was that? Um, yeah, it was I think overall I think it was a big turning point, but other than that, I think we just have to go out there and then kind of slow their momentum down and really try to um push our luck a little bit. And that’s exactly what we did. I think everyone got excited. Um, we we got our swagger a little bit back and and push their push their team on their heels and um it was a really good response. Have you individually been looking to shoot the puck more this season? Um, I mean, obviously you don’t want to force it. Um, other than that, yes, of course. I think you always want to get your shot through and um have uh have guys that front to either tip it or screen it. And Copper did an excellent job of uh of that today. How fun was it to see JVR, especially in the first period, he was almost got a second one there. Yeah, came offline and um it’s exactly what we need. Um we need everyone to chip in. Um and that was kind of kind of his night tonight. Thank you. Todd, you said you liked the effort from your team in Boston, but what was it about tonight that led you to the better result? Um, well, our start was better. We got to a real good goalender. Obviously, he didn’t finish the night. Um, I thought we were really good, real solid all over the rink. Um, and then momentum changed a little bit when we got involved in the scrum. they got on the power play and they got feeling good about themselves again and you know the first goal from distance all of a sudden they’re back in it. So um uh I thought the goal at the end of the second period the the Sherat goal was real important for us settled us back down went back out in the power play and then again we we do some things that are um you know the scrum to to take it to four on four again. We don’t need that. We’re we’re in control of the game and that again is uh for me game management, understanding situations. We’re learning. Um at least we got the win tonight as we learned lessons. What update, if any, can you give us on Michael Rasm? Uh yeah, Ras Ras got double hit, I think, um by a couple heavy players. uh he was examined and he just didn’t have strength to to come back. Um nothing’s damaged or anything like that. So, we’ll see how he is in the morning. Todd, what do you um both in Boston in the first couple periods tonight seems to be clicking more as far as team defense. Um well, they they every team plays a little bit different. Boston plays a little different game and um you know we after playing them for one and then getting to uh to tonight’s game we had an idea of what we had to do and polish up and and clean up. I thought we did that well. I thought we played and defended faster. Um you know as players escape and climb and get into open ice, it really creates problems um for for anybody, not just us. And and we took some of that ice away from them. Um, so I thought we did that well and all four lines were committed to doing it. Not just uh 10 players, not just 15 players, but everybody was committed to to defending and it it looked pretty good. And is this the kind of impact JVR can have? I mean, he almost had two in the first period. Well, he’s I think he’s got three or four now in the last five or six games. Uh, he looked energized. um you know and and his brain is his brain always will make him faster. When his legs go like that it’s really good and uh he had a good night. You had Andrew Cop with the Brinket and Kane for a stretch last season before he got hurt. Tonight he’s out there. I think he was on the screen for Siders goal similar area for Dbrinks. Like what makes him suit those two players so well? Um well he’s a veteran. There’s some sense of confidence that that he plays with. Um, I think when Copper goes to the net for those two, things happen. Um, if Copper is off on the side of the net and, you know, looking for some something over there, it doesn’t happen as much for the other two. Um, when he goes there, he takes a defenseman with him. So, now there’s more ice for those two to move around in. So, when he understands how to play with them, and I think he does, it it helps them out. And then I think Jacob Bernard Docker had five blocks in the first 25 minutes. Like, how much do you notice that from a player who’s Oh, we do. there’s uh you’re not you guys aren’t near the bench or I’m sure you can’t even hear but there’s a lot of um uh you know there’s a big rally cry from from teammates when individuals do that and he was in front of a lot of them and um good for him. We need that we need that from him. That has to be part of his game. Scoring so early and efficiently on the power play just pristine passing uh especially after going 0 for five in the previous game. Just how big is that? Real big. We had it ended up being the winning goal, I think. Um, you know, it we had some good discussions about what we needed to do on the power play and uh they went out and did it. So, that’s it’s as simple as that. They took some information, they applied it, and um were real direct with it, got the results. And then the scoreboard will show four goals against, but several major saves from John Gibson tonight. Do you feel like a game like tonight will kind of go a long way towards building his confidence back up even further? He got it he got a win and it wasn’t an easy win. Um, you know, for him there there were some really tough saves and there were periods of of nothing and and the game was under control, then it wasn’t. Uh so it was a very very much a roller coaster type game for a goalender to play in and um you know at the end of the night he got the win. So I’m can’t do anything but help uh his confidence, our our confidence, the team’s confidence. So I’m I’m happy for him. It’s been a while since he got one and um I’m happy for him. Todd, you you look at Patrick Kane’s stats and he gets you know he keeps piling up the assist but there there’s not any goals. Do you how do you sort that out as a coach? I mean, do you think when you as long as he’s getting the points, he’s playing well? Do you need goals from how do you look at it? Um, I don’t know. He’s got 495 of them, I think, doesn’t he? So, uh, I’m not too worried about Patrick Kane not scoring. He’s He gets some chances. Uh, he makes some real good plays. Um, when you score that many, you don’t forget how to score. Um, it’ll come and we’ve seen it before. When it comes, it usually comes in bunches. and um I thought he had a real positive impact on the game today. From above, Soder Bloom seemed to be more physically involved tonight. Is that kind of what you need from him? Yes. And it started in Boston. I thought um him with the two uh with Danny and Casp. That was a a real good line for us in Boston. It carried over into today, but u Elmer was a factor in the game today. I thought Ras played that way the last two games. Unfortunately, he didn’t get the finish, but uh if we can keep getting that from from those types of players, it’s it’s certainly beneficial for the club.

No sooner had I given up on the Red Wings, do they come back and win. Let’s try to keep the momentum going, boys!
Almost another 3rd period lost defense has to wake up 4on4 a bruin standing in front of the net
Good game. Gibson stil” definitely needs to improve a bit better in net but anyway. Happy the boys got em the win
I'll be the manager here. Send asp down. Being up cossa and possibly mbn if we got to many passengers
I swear every time we go 4v4, we give up a goal. Gibby wasn’t terrible this game, happy to see him land a w.
Gibson needs more wins to fix his mental game. He looks nervous. When he lets up the 2nd goal you can see him looking up at the scoreboard scared that he is choking again. He needs more wins to fix that so he starts making those saves he should be able to save
Not enough killer instinct in this team. Not respecting the fact that guys on the other team will try to hurt you if they get a chance. You have to neutralize the threat, sometimes that means scoring over and over until they have no fight left.
LGRW!!
8 starts for Gibson to get a win with him im net. He let in a lot of soft shots tonight as well. We need a better backup goalie then him.
Que sera sera, whatever will be will be. Players don’t seem to be too concerned about almost blowing a 3 goal lead. A 9-6-1 record at home is not good enough.
send ASP down. his defensive game and decision making needs work. the game seems to be a bit too fast for him still and he turns over the puck way too much. also just missed the net constantly with that trigger happy shot.
"Moritz Sedier"
God Gibson is awful………….3 of those goals tonight were on him. First one a peewee tender saves that. Second one his usual god awful rebound control. The fourth he should be simply sliding across not stacking the pads. Guys terrible. Also gotta say right now Soderblom and Kasper are useless plugs on this team. Berggren should be in over both of them. One good note, JVR was fantastic tonight. Seider had arguably his best game this season. ASP needs to be benched or moved to the minors, he's been awful so far.
Gibson has got to go; hope we offload him and pick up a good tandem for Talb's. Granted we need to be better all-around, but I dread seeing him start even though our D is looking better.
Drink every time DeBrincat says ya know 🤮😂.. great team win!!! GO WINGS!!!
When a Goalie hasn't Won a game since Oct 28th.. He is the PROBLEM! He will cost us the Playoffs if we continue to start him. Trade him now to the Oilers and bring Cossa up.
Bring up Cossa please
Gibson needed that more than anyone
Team is SOFT. I love watching teams coast in our zone when all 5 of our guys on the ice absolutely refuse to be physical on any level….I realize fighting/and toughness takes a backseat to speed and skill in today's era but this collection of players is pushing it.
This is what you get when you choose to go with all Swedes. All great Detroit teams have the right amount of Swedes and Russians to balance each other out. Where are the Russians, Stevie?
todd is actually right, i hated the scrums, they were selfish and unnecessary. the game was like 3-0 and Boston was not interested in playing tonight and then that dumb scrum. not to mention the awful Gibson goal.
Gibson needs to go to GR. It’s comical watching him melt when teams go 6 on 5. No wonder our goal differential is horrendous.
Dude just couldn’t have over a .900 save percentage so just gave up 2 quick ones.
The little known twin brother of Seider, Sedier 😅
