“Man, He Can Fly” | Alex Tuch On Josh Norris’ Two-Goal Return To The Ice | Buffalo Sabres

Alex, you guys came out right from the opening drop of the puck again. You were fast. You defended well. You went into the goalender. Uh just a lot of good things to talk about, weren’t there? Yeah. No, I thought we were uh getting a lot of good shots on net. Uh like you said, playing fast. I don’t think we spent too much time in our own zone and we were able to catch them a little bit by surprise and put them on their heels right away. What do you think of that Josh Norris guy? Terrible. Horrible hockey player. What a start. Uh you know what? We saw it in the preseason. when we saw him in the the limited amount of time he played in the start of the season. Obviously, it was tough to see him go down with an injury, but uh to see how hard he’s been working and um you know, he’s he’s always stayed positive. He’s been with the guys as much as he can. Um but he’s put a lot of good work in and to see him come out and have that success and man, he can fly. Uh it’s it’s noticeable and uh it doesn’t look like it looks like he’s been playing 25 games already. So, uh that was awesome to see. He gave us a a good little energy boost there and allowed us to get going. You mentioned he stayed positive. Like what did you see from him? Because I imagine it would have been pretty hard to stay positive given what he’s gone through. Yeah. No, he’s uh he’s no uh he’s no stranger to injuries and uh when you when you get a guy like that, I think you continue to learn more and more about your body. And so he kind of took that in stride. I think he he really focused uh on himself and on rounding out the off ice side of things and and just staying mentally good. I thought that the guys in the locker room and our training staff and coaching staff did a good job of helping him stay positive and and just uh making them want to come back as soon as possible and fisheries had a schedule. So, that’s always good to see. And like I said, he came out flying and he had a hell of a night tonight. Are you okay? You only had one shift in the first half of the second period. Are you okay? Sorry. Like injury wise? Yeah. Yeah. Oh, yeah. No, I was I was fine. It was just a little bit of a a rotation um that happened. There was there was nothing with that. At the same time with Josh Norris, how much was his absence absence noted and how much of an impact did that have? Um yeah, I mean I thought we had some guys step up and um in his absence, but at the same time to replace a guy like that is damn near impossible. I mean, uh, he’s got such a high-end skill set. Uh, such a good skater. He’s an unbelievable 200 foot centerman and, uh, yeah, his his IQ is off the charts. So, um, I mean, he put it on full display tonight and, uh, he was unbelievable. So, yeah, it’s when you miss a guy like that, it definitely hurts. And, um, it’s good to have him back. And at the same time, you’re getting more and more players back from these injuries that kept them out for, you know, double digit games. What kind of impact are you seeing by getting all those guys back in the lineup? Yeah, it’s always good. Um I mean some new and some extra energy. Um obviously with with Nory’s case, it was some uh some good production. Uh I think he’s going to continue to roll with that. I mean, we’ve always had that next man up mentality, but when you do get guys back from injury, I think it helps a lot. I think it just gives the boys a little bit of a boost in confidence and uh in energy. And uh like I said tonight you got us rolling. How much does it help you guys that many of you are teammates with Eric Conor? Does that help when you face a goalender that you used to play? Um honestly I think Khan is unbelievable goalie. I think he there was I mean by shot it was unbelievable shot. I don’t think a goal any goalie in the world is going to stop that. Uh I know his down low play went off to defenseman so you can’t I mean I I don’t I don’t think he was and I don’t know anything but I don’t think he was pulled because of his play. I think it was more of a jump for their team and um and I mean it happens around the league and stuff. Um I didn’t score on him so I couldn’t say I couldn’t say that it helped me personally. Um but no uh he’s had a lot of success there. He’s a really good goalie and I’m sure we’ll face him again in a couple games here. Um, he’s going to be he’s going to be itching and ready to go. So, we got to be ready for him.

Buffalo Sabres forward Alex Tuch spoke with the media after the team’s 5-1 win over the Winnipeg Jets on December 1, 2025. He talked about Josh Norris’ return, Norris’ speed on the ice, and more.
