Holton gives up too much contact to be a good high leverage reliever. He’s still a great piece for any bullpen, but we need someone with a higher strikeout rate to be the nr1 left out of the bullpen.
Deserves a roster spot but as their go to LH specialist? No
I think Holton will be better next year. The pitching chaos really wore him out I believe. Took him almost the whole year to recover. Same thing with Beau Briske.
I didn’t read the article yet so maybe they addressed it but Holton pitched a lot in 2024. He threw 94 innings in the regular season when you usually see relievers throw in the 70s at most nowadays. Hell add in the 85 innings in 2023 as well. Sometimes that overuse can have an impact on following seasons even if they’re technically healthy. Hopefully we’ll see a bit of a rebound but maybe they can bring in more arms around him to back off that workload to get the best out of everybody.
