BLACKHAWKS POSTGAME: Chicago Force S/O in Vegas & Walk Away With a Point | CHGO Blackhawks Podcast
The Hawks lose 4-3 in the shootout to the Vegas Golden Knights. But a sick goal from Connor Bard. Actually two if we count shootout goals. I guess they do that these days. It is our Big Brothers Big Sisters uh day of giving. We are raising money uh for Big Brothers and Big Sisters the entire show. So, hit that handshake icon to donate. We did this in the pregame show. We already are up to 230 plus dollars. Yeah. 260 plus. Yeah. The first threshold was met, which means uh Noodle Man gets some extra waving. Yeah. So, uh that’s why he’s on. And yeah, it’s uh technically 12:05 a.m. on Wednesday here in Chicago, but uh because this show was supposed to start on Giving Tuesday, um we’re we’re we’re we’re closing the show here at CHDL. already uh raised a lot of money for Big Brothers, Big Sisters, which if you’re unfamiliar with is a tremendous uh organization that pairs uh youth with uh you know, mentors that they feel like can help them in life, whether it’s you know, just someone to be there to support them through school or through uh you know, job searching, anything like that. Just you know, someone to to to bounce life uh questions off of. Um definitely worth uh worth your time, worth your money. Yeah. And today that’s where our Giving Tuesday funds are going towards. And you see on your screen there we got thresholds at $200, $400, 600, 800, and our goal of $1,000. So 200 was we give uh Noodle Man some screen time of his own. We’ve gotten that. Hopefully his ego is satisfied. Uh, the next benchmark is $400 and that is where Jay and I will provide five minutes of uninterrupted and unconditional love for Jonathan Taes and Patrick Kane, which we are sometimes accused of not doing, but uh we’ll we’ll do it for the people. We’re we’re a show of the people. $600 and we do the Blackhawks nickname speed game, which I’m excited for. So, I I I have faith that we are going to get to $600. Uh $800. We are again going to entertain uh the thoughts of the people and we’re going to rehash the Ivan Demodv. Got some of the chat today conversations. Um and uh we’ll we’ll we’ll do that. And then $1,000. If we reach our goal by the end of tonight, uh the four of us, me, Jay, Sarah, and Chloe, uh we will be partaking in our first ever smelling salts experience, which we will uh endure and uh post on on social media to uh uh completely pay off the uh the challenge. Are you you have a microphone in your hand? You’ve already talked. No, I was just saying that this wasn’t the first time for me, but I do also She does smelling sauce all the time. three out of the four and bath salt, which is crazy, but whatever gets you ready for the show. Uh, and for free, we’re going to rip on ESPN cuz that was ass. Yes. All right, we got to get to the game first, but one more thing. One more thing. One more thing. Uh, $50 donations. Uh, will put you into a raffle for two tickets to the CHGO Blackhawks takeover on December 13th coming up in uh just a couple of days. So if you are able to uh donate $50 or more uh please do that. that you will be uh entered into the raffle. If you can go to the game, let us know. Yes. And uh take a screenshot of your donation and uh hit us up at all or blackhawks rather. Blackhawksall.com. Uh email us and we will make sure that your name is in the hat. Maybe this hat for that raffle or a bigger hat like mine or could be a bigger one. All right, let’s talk about this game now. Now that the everything’s laid out, hopefully we get uh we get to our goal and that’ll be uh some positive vibes for the night because there’s going to be some negative ones uh in in in this and uh I I say this, let’s dedicate the next half hour to the game and then and then we’ll and then we’ll have some fun. We’ll dedic we’ll we’ll pay off some of our uh fundraising goals at the end. Well, look, um, this is a team that most people, Vegas, uh, consider a Stanley Cup contender, and they haven’t looked completely as amazing as, you know, you’re you’re kind of used to them looking so far this season, but this was about as even of a hockey game as you can possibly play. Uh, they were both teams were almost dead even in possession. Uh, high dator chances were close. Scoring chances were close. Scoring chances were actually 50/50. 22 to 22. That is the if we’re talking about analytics, that’s the one that Jeff Flashel always goes to is scoring chances to dictate how a game is. I mean, it’s fair. The Hawks played the Vegas Golden Knights dead even. However, it feels like a big missed opportunity. You had Carter Hart making his first start in two years and apparently he was off he was off of feeding the poor or whatever it was. Yeah. So good to see Carter Hart B. Welcome back to the league, Carter Hart. What the freak? We’re going to get to that broadcast later cuz there is so much to get to. Uh but overall, I don’t want to get derailed. It was a good game. I got a little frustrated towards the end where Hawks are up 3-2 and they’re sitting back. It wasn’t quite dump it and then go back, but they were making a lot of business decisions late in the third. There’s one play where Oliver Moore had the puck along the boards. Probably could have taken a look to see if he had a centering pass or could have cycled back to the point. Instead, he just kind of dumps it behind Carter Hart. Like those little things where you’re playing it safe. Look, had they escaped with two points, not escaped is the wrong word. Had they won the game, yeah, we’d all say, “Hey, you know what? They they they burned it off at the end. It was great. But a lot of talent on Vegas. You know, they’re going to push hard. They’ve got a lot of guys that can put the puck in the net. So, I would have liked to see a little more aggression, but aside from that, yeah, were there some moments where guys screwed up? Absolutely. I didn’t love Alex Vasic on that third goal. Kind of got turned around in front of the net. The the Vegas had three whacks on that puck before Bowman would put it in for the game tying goal. Creier was I don’t want to say out of position, but he was stretched a little far. Yeah. Yeah. So, there were some things here and there that you could certainly nitpick with, but the Hawks hung right in with one of the better rosters in hockey. Get a point, which is great, but it it is certainly disappointing to not get that that that second point because you feel like you certainly deserved it. This is one of those games. It’s it’s like the avalanche game where you’re like, you know what, you put that effort against 90% of the league and and you come away with with that that second point. Um the the the sequence basically after Baddard scores his Rockstar goal which again dude he is just on another level this season which has been so much fun to watch. He’s going to win a Silki I was told during the broadcast. Yeah. Oh sure why not. Um to to to see him continuously make these types of plays and and the whole sequence was great. Ryan Green makes a great defensive play. Andre Burkovski corrals the puck, gets it up to Baddard, uh, and and then he’s off to the races, makes a great move, and and just snipes it. Like just again, all-star Olympic level plays offensively from him. It’s it’s it it’s going to be silly if he’s not on. And can we talk about the play also in a third? Mark Stones got the puck behind the Hawks net. Conor Bard comes and takes it from muscles, bodies him off the puck and moves the puck the other way. It’s a sulky winning play. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, I mean it’s again like the the complete game from Conor Bard is is starting to grow. Well, we already knew he was offensively talented, but the way he’s playing defense now this season, this the strength and the speed that he’s playing with. And and again, like ESPN the broadcast, uh Steve Levy and Kevin Weekes were saying like he he could he could get votes for the heart and the Selki. He’s not going to get any sales, but he is better defensively. That’s that’s not hyperbole to say that Conor Bard is better defensively this year. Um, but the the the push in the third period from Vegas, I mean, that’s like you said, that’s a contendee. That’s a contender level team, that’s a team with Marner and Stone and Eel and Hurdle and and all these guys goes on and on. Um, that are super accomplished in in the league. And I’m not necessarily mad at the Hawks efforts to try and kind of ride out the push to the end of the game. It’s just disappointing that they weren’t able to do it uh in the way that they did. And then, you know, you you you you get down one- nothing early and given the way that uh the Ducks game went, you’re like, “Oh, we’re here again.” But come on, guys. Oliver Moore responds right away. Like, beautiful. two goals in 80 seconds of the game, you know, about a minute apart from each other. It was a great way to respond and you’re back to even, right? And then and then you, you know, you continue to push. It’s back and forth uh the entire game. You go to overtime and it’s chances on on both ends of the ice. The Blackhawks basically have two minutes of a threeon two and a half because I think it was Shay Theodore broke his stick and was playing out there without a stick and Vegas would not give him a It was so weird. like you think three on three overtime. He’s shifting so much. It really doesn’t matter. I’m giving it to my all-star defenseman. He’s getting sure. Yeah, that might that might that might be the play. But I just couldn’t believe that how much time that they had with the puck in their zone with that advantage and they don’t bury it. I mean I mean that that sequence is a perfect illustration between cup contender in Vegas and young team. Ardam Lefchnov had Carter Hart dead to rights and was like, I don’t know what to do. Just kind of skated himself into submission and got in too close to have a real good scoring chance. Ryan Green had a couple really good looks and couldn’t finish. The Hawks were the better team in overtime. There’s no doubt about it. But I think you just see that like sometimes those moments, those singular moments like I’m talking about with Levinov in overtime, they can get you you lose your hands a little bit. you lose your head a little bit in those moments because you’re, “Oh my god, the game’s on my stick. I’m right here all alone. Don’t screw it up.” And then by then, by the time you’ve said all that to yourself, the play’s over and you and you missed your chance. With time, with experience, with games like this, the Hawks, young players are going to say, “I’ve been here before. I’ve been here before. Remember that Vegas game? I’m never doing that again. Next time I get a chance, I’m shooting it. Next time I get a chance, I’m taking it right to the net and stuffing it.” whatever it might be. These are the excellent learning experiences the Hawks are getting. And look, I I think Jeff Flash hopefully will get to hear from him by the time we’re done here. I I don’t know what he’s going to aside from, hey, you know what? Next time on this, do this or hey, you got stretched like you said about you’re off a little too far. Tighten it up. Little notes about this game. I think they played they played really well and it to me the shootout remains so frustrating and so unsatisfying. It’s just like it does not feel when you lose in the shootout. It does not feel right. It just feels gross. I know. I I hate it. I I I I hate the I hate I mean if they had won in the shootout, I’d be feeling great. But yeah, the loss in the shootout stinks just because you get so entertained by the the overtime period. Phenomenal. What I what I love is that neither team did the like, oh, we have the puck in the offensive zone and we’re on the perimeter and we’re going to pull it out of the zone and go back and and try and reset and just control the puck and do nothing with it. Both teams were if we have a chance, we’re going. And it was oddman rush. Oddman rush. It’s what you want out of the threeon-ree overtime. And I think it’s to me I’m I’m always just like, what’s the harm other than five extra more minutes of making three on three 10 minutes? You’re going to almost eliminate the shootout. Yeah, I would think so. By by extending it, but anyways, that’s that’s a a grander scale thing. That sounds like a good show for August. Sure. We do have a quote here uh via Mark Lazarus from Jeff Blashel. says, quote, “You’re disappointed you didn’t get two points, but I thought we did a lot of good stuff on the road against a team that’s probably considered one of the Stanley Cup favorites. We’ll have outchanced them. We’ll have outchanced them and certainly were in a position to win the hockey game.” So, again, it’s it’s it’s a game that you you you watch it. Uh the the eye test and the analytics say coin flip. Yeah. And and you I mean, it was And it was Yeah. you get you go through 65 minutes and you have to go to the shootout, it it becomes a coin flip. So, it I’m I’m very I feel very that they didn’t get the two points, but I’m not like I’m not browbeating this team. There’s no reason to. And it some weirdness happening in the chat from people I’ve never seen before, which whatever. It’s late night, so that’s fine. And people are frustrated after a loss, but see Joe after dark. Oo, some context would be helpful in some of these comments, people. Uh, we want to thank Anonymous again. Stopped hacking governments and gave us $25, which we appreciate. 29 290. It should be right next to the chat button. Should be right there. Yep. Absolutely. All right, we’re going to take our first time out of the show. Hit that like button for us. Spencer Knight, Tyler Batusi, who is now a point per game player. 23 points in 23 games. And Connor Bard with uh maybe his goal of the year. I’m sure there’ll be more. And uh a sick shootout goal, too. Yeah, I mean, two amazing uh highlight reel goals. um you just add you just add more to the resume he’s built this season for the honestly being in the conversation for the the heart trophy as league MVP. Um it’s not just because we’re a Blackhawk show. NHL.com put out uh their their 16 writers which I think most to all of them are voters. They had Bedard finishing second in the heart to Nathan McKinnon if the season ended right now. Calm down Chloe. You’re not in Denver anymore. By the way, it’s um I’ll say this. It’s all this is the age of old argument of how you define MVP. Conor Bard is more valuable to the Blackhawks than Nathan McKinnon is to the Avalanche. Nathan McKinnon is a better player right now than Conor Bard, but the term is most valuable player. If the Hawks make the playoffs and Bard and Bard continues this throughout the season, I think he’s I I think it’s I think he has an edge. Um if they don’t make the playoffs, then I I think it’s hard to award that trophy to someone who to a team that didn’t make the playoffs. But I I’m always of the mindset that there should be a a dedicated most outstanding player. So if Connor McDavid or Nathan McKinnon score 150 points, yes, then yeah, most outstanding, but most valuable should there should be a weighted way to measure that. But again, I mean, if you have a guy like Nathan McKinnon scoring 140 points, like that’s the most. Is Colorado good without Nathan McKinnon? Are they a playoff team? They’re still good. Yeah. Are the Blackhawks anywhere close where they are without Conor Badard? No. Thank you. They’re not. Anyways, um that’s a remote. I didn’t have a mic. I can drop you dropped you dropped the noodle. Um, yeah. I mean, Bard had a had another uh incredible game. Frank Nazar, look, I I I know he didn’t uh he got another he got an assist. Yep. On the opening goal. This four at fourame point streak for I think for uh at least I think at least three might be four. Um but man, I would love for him to score a freaking goal, man. Sorry, my bad. Um I I I really just want him to to get that goalc scoring swagger back to his game. And it wasn’t for a lack of trying. We were going through the numbers during the break. He had uh seven individual scoring chances tonight. Four individual high danger chances. Like he was he was noticeable and and he was, you know, a positive impact player. You can see him fighting it though. like even that that shootout goal even illustrates very much in his head um feeling the fact that he’s not scored a goal in a month and I get it like so has he been effective yes and look we all realize that he is coming back from injury his last goal was October 28th over a month against Ottawa yeah it’s uh it’s it’s been Was that before or after the Calgary game that would had been before that was uh yes that was before one two three four games before it. Yeah. So I would I would man one I I feel I feel like one goal I feel like getting one even the shootout one tonight would have been great but getting one I think will will open it up for him hopefully. Um I think we’d be remiss without mentioning Spencer Knight’s play tonight. It’s great. Holy smokes. Yep. It is night it is night and day difference between him and Arvid Solderblum in net and I I you know you you watch the game you can clearly see the difference he makes but go to the analytics expected goals for tonight for the Vegas Golden Knights was 3.24 24. I mean, I I feel like 24 I I b I feel like he saved the the the shot attempts that were like on net shoot, you know, shot attempts on goal. I’m trying to score a goal this way. He made the saves. And for two of those goals to go in basically friendly fire Yeah. really is a bummer. And that’s another like pain in the butt that they didn’t get the two points tonight because you’re you’re going to overtime basically two out of three goals are I hate to say luck of the bounce but one of those felt that way. The Berusi one you would say would be kind of lucky on their end but it was kind of gifted to him but Berus Bertusi had to finish the play but it was kind of gifted to him right. Yeah. I mean, look, there’s there’s a there’s a lot of good to take away. I think all three of these Game Punk nominees are uh are worthy. I saw someone mentioned like, “Why wasn’t Bratusi used in the shootout?” I don’t know if that’s not a big shootout guy. Yeah, half of his goals are from them, you know, bouncing off of him, you know, backboard style. But, um, I don’t have any I don’t have any issue with the guys that they used in in the uh in the shootout. Who was it? Terrain. He’s got hands, but I I would like I wouldn’t use I guess using him as the opener is fine because I wouldn’t rely on him to Oh my god. Sorry. What? Gigantic centipede. That gigantic centipede back there scared the crap out of me. Sorry. God. Anyways, um uh Terrainan wouldn’t wouldn’t wouldn’t rely on him. wouldn’t rely on him uh in a closer role in the shootout. So, I guess using him, you want to use him. I think he’s skilled enough that you if you don’t use him, you’re like, why didn’t you use him? So, I guess he’s fine there. Bard obviously you’re using. Donado is usually pretty good in those situations. Nazar, he’s got the hands. I’m I’m fine using him. Um in his career, uh Tower Batusi is 0 for five in the shootout and he’s had a substantial length of career already. So, it’ll only have five uh Yeah. five shot five shot attempts and not score. It’s not really his game. Um the stats would prove that correct. Yes. Yeah. I’m not a big analytics guy, but going for five, but over five over what, a 10- year career basically would uh Yeah. would indicate probably not the greatest. Yeah. So I I again like I I think this game um it’s moral victory that that’s kind of a negative way to look at it. like it’s a loss, but it’s again it’s the coin flip loss and I think there’s there’s plenty of positives to take away and and and the like you mentioned before at the beginning of the show like the the changes or the you know the what you would improve on is so minor that it’s just like yeah you’ll you’ll get there like those thing it’s like those things that’s like it’s almost those situations where it’s just like you know the the the nazar penalty right that that negated the power play a chance that they had. He He knows he can’t do that, right? And he I’m sure he won’t do it again. It doesn’t need to be beaten over the head with the lesson of don’t do that, don’t do that. Yeah. Like Yeah. Right. Right. He knows. He’s a smart hockey. Every NHL game, somebody has to win, somebody has to lose and when it goes to the coin flip of the shootout, you lost. Yeah, you lost it. And it happened. Like you could we could rehash it all. It feels like there has to be a villain, some hawk to blame after every loss tonight. It’s apparently Alex Wic, which is okay. Yeah. I mean, I I I I don’t think I come away with this. I I don’t really come away from this game thinking like there there was anyone that was absolutely terrible that you you lay it at their feet. I don’t I think I think Wyatt Kaiser had a few moments where he almost gave away goals, but then the efforts he made to make up for them. Dun made up for them. Oh, yeah. Yeah, that one. That one too. That was a good one. Uh so many the the the diving play after he made a horrible turnover to save what could have very likely been uh the tying goal at the time. Yeah, that’s a great that’s a great desperation play. He made the glove save in the I think that was in the first period. Like he was making some some pretty good plays tonight uh defensively. Again, like a like a give and take kind of thing. Um yeah, I mean I I I I don’t look at I don’t look at tonight’s game watching it. I I didn’t think anybody was egregiously bad. I think Lev had some some good moments. Some bad moments. He had some really good plays, too. Lev uh Renzel was up and down. Um, he I I just looked at someone said it in the chat earlier and I was just like, is that true? He only had 11 shifts. I don’t know if he didn’t I don’t think he really played much in the third third period. Yeah, his total minutes were uh I got to look at 9:30. See if I can pick up the shift chart on him. Yeah. Um, he’s plus one though. Good. That’s good. That’s a good metric. Yeah. All right. Uh, before we hit the break zone for the final time, uh, we have hit the $400 threshold. some new donations, a bunch from anonymous, 125, 20, five, 25, and 25. And now we’ve got Joshua who threw in five bucks. That’s a cup of coffee, Joshua. That’s what we’re talking about. Those things add up. We appreciate that. And Schaefer more uh $20 uh donation as well. And remember, if you pledge 50, snap a photo of your donation receipt, send it to [email protected]. You’ll be entered to win a pair of tickets to our takeover on December 13. as the Hawks face the Wangs Detroit. Uh Renzel had one shift in the third period. Okay. So interesting teachable moment maybe. 100%. Maybe his game game wasn’t up to uh what Blashel wanted. That’s that’s a teachable uh teachable moment. And and and Renzel is I mean he’s had some ups and downs. He’s been scratched. He’s come back and had good performances, but it’s not it’s not linear. Um, so hopefully, you know, it gets a it gets a bounceback opportunity. They got the Kings coming up next twice. Twice. I love the two games in three days. Both games in LA. Like it goes it goes back to that weird COVID season after COVID hit, the the the 21 season where they had the screwy divisions and they had like baseball style series. I love that. I wish they would do more of that. Um, so I’m excited for that. You talk about building rivalries, that’s how you do it. I mean, imagine if the Hawks and Well, they’re going to play again this weekend, but like if the Hawks and Ducks have been back to back. Yeah. Right. That would have been those good for rivalry development. The second games of those two games in three days are always a little bit more ratcheted up. So, I’m I’m looking forward to it. All right, break zone time. Hit that like button for us and we’ll talk to you in two minutes. You got us to the 400 hour threshold. and we will sing the praises of Jonathan Taes and Patrick Kane coming up next on CHG Black Arts. We are brought to you by Prize Picks. Conor Bard with one goal, no assist, bum. 2422 of ice time, a future Selfie Trophy for Connor Bard. Uh he also had six shots on goal, nine shot attempts. We’re not going to talk about the faceoffs. A really good game for Connor Bard. So he is our fret boy. A frat houseworthy game. Today’s Fred House on Madison. So there we go. Um, some conversation about the Florida Panthers dead last in the Eastern Conference. The Hawks do have their first round pick this year. Explain it. Uh, I guess there was some on the broadcast misinformation uh about about that pick. Uh, no way. Went back and and and uh I had a uh Twitter DM with uh Mr. and or misses Puckedia. I forget I forget who runs that that website now, but uh with Puckedia after that Knight Jones first round pick trade went down and their explanation was that the condition was Florida could swap the 26 pick for their 27 first round pick. if prior to the 2025 draft, Florida decided, “No, we are going to use that 26 pick in another trade.” That didn’t happen. So, it is the 2026 first round pick for the Florida Panthers this year, which is not protected. So, where they are right now in the standings, you said last place in the Eastern Conference, that would make them That’s bad for the record, everyone. Yeah, once again, not an analytics guy, but they currently are 28th in the league. So that’s pick one, two, three, four, fifth. Fifth. Um the So they could be picking fifth. Yes. And that would mean they have the fifth best odds of winning the draft. And if that happens, that means the Blackhawks would win the draft. If if you trade Seth Jones and get and get Gavin McKenna or uh whoever you want at the top of the draft, um boy, what a trade. Yes, that’s a good trade. It’s a good trade anyway. It’s already a good trade. It’s already a good trade. It’s already been a great trade. It would be great. All right, we got to start talking about Kane and Taves. Ready? Uh five minutes on the clock. How are we going to do this? We going to be like they should have brought him back or just talk just talk about how much you love him. Five minutes until until the 40 40 minute mark. Fox rolling, baby. Get going. I Oh, my career my career path to Jonathan TA and Patrick Kane and the contributions that they made in their time with the Chicago Blackhawks. Um, the second ever Blackhawks jersey that I own, the first one was the black jersey when I turned nine. Uh, the second one was a Patrick Kane jersey back in in in 2009 and um I finally grew out of that one when I was nine years old. Um, and he was just absolutely electric. Um, him and Jonathan Taz revitalized uh, hockey in Chicago. It was and you know the supporting cast around them, flowers to them all the time. Um, but it was those two guys at at the top. They were they were the marquee names on, you know, on on they were the names on the marquee um outside the United Center and they were the catalysts of hockey coming back to Chicago in a in a big way and it was you know the reason that a whole generation of fans where I am in that wheelhouse of that generation, people of of my age um you know people who are now in their 20s and are adults out in the real world Kane and Tae was their childhood and and they just were absolute stars in in Chicago and and you know during that run of the the 2010s like the Blackhawks were the biggest biggest team outside of 2016 I would say the Blackhawks were the most fun team to be a fan of in Chicago for about a eight or nine Yeah. There’s no doubt about it span. I mean I like what you said about them being the reason for your career. Same with me. I mean, I had a career, but what really made me rise above just being a ordinary producer was the fact that I got to cover the Hawks and the Hawks got really good. So, without their success, I wouldn’t be here. This show might not even be here. Who knows, right? Um that cannot be um overstated. So, um, and they did like they it felt like overnight to a lot of people because it they arrived at the same time and got the team good right away or a lot of people miss Cbrook and Keith and all the development that have been happening ahead of that, which is fine, but those the arrival of those two is really what did it. And like I I just to me there was a period of a couple years where Jonathan Taves was the perfect hockey player. We forget because of the way Taves’s career wounding down in Chicago with the health issues with the injuries with missing time. There were real conversations about Jonathan Taves and Cydney Crosby on the same plane. Yeah. As the same level of player. Who do you build a franchise around? Exactly. And I think When that poll ran, I believe it was the Athletic GMs were pulled. Which of these players you start a franchise with? Taves or Crosby. Taves won that. Now, in fairness, there was a lot of anti- Crosby bias early in his career because just like with Conor Bernard, we’ve seen it. People don’t want to hear the hype. They’re this guy’s overhyped and hasn’t accomplished anything and blah blah. It happens with LeBron James. It happened with Sydney Crosby. And all both those guys did was exactly what they were promised to do and much more by being at worst the fifth best players in their league of all time. Fine, right? Like they they have both become what they were hyped to become. And I think over time fans have let go of that bitterness to Crosby and embrace him. Anyway, we’re not talking about Crosby. We’re talking about Kane and Taves. And with with Kane, so Taves for a long period of time, maybe the best player in the league. And then Kane, who was if you needed a moment, if you needed a goal, if you need an overtime winner, you needed a shootout winner, it was him. Every freaking time. Every time there was a moment to deliver, Patrick Kane would deliver. And that was that’s like why I think and rightfully so, I think he’s the greatest American-born player of all time. Maybe forward of all. I still think Chelios is that’s a different show for a different game. Kane is is they’re Bull Hawks, which is great. About to break the all-time points record. Like he’s on pace to do that this season. Like that’s that’s something we all for a number of years have expected to happen. Um yeah, I I I think I think he’s absolutely that guy. And until until someone else comes along, if it’s Austin Matthews when his career is over, surpasses him maybe. But until that time, like Patrick Kane is is the guy. And and think about how many young players in the league now like Patrick Kane was their idol like like guys like Zegris and Jack Hugh and you know Baddard talks about it and and just like how how many guys were influenced by him and and you know the the swagger that he had in his early in his career and um just the play style and and the stick handling and everything was just uh just elite level and and and gamechanging to because for an American American player to have that that style of play I think and that level of play and that impact that was a big thing um for for US hockey I would say as far as you know his his individual influence within the US uh for the sport goes to say because I mean Canada’s had that influence for so long um but for a guy like Patrick to come along and and influence like the American uh the American game the American side of the sport like that is he’s a game changer and there’s a reason that Matthew Kachchuck choose his mouthpiece out of his mouth. So many guys do it. A lot of guys do it because they grew up watching Patrick Kane and he was an absolute culture shifter in this league. So there you go. There’s five plus minutes on Patrick Kane. Yeah. And we have a blast ready to go or Frank one second. Uh, I believe Delaney B in the chat was saying, “I hope when these guys do eventually officially retire that they do, you know, the one day contract retires a Hawk.” I can I can guarantee you that is going to happen. Yeah. numbers are going to be I don’t know how many years Patrick Kane wants to keep playing and how many years it’s going to be in Detroit and how many years he’s going to keep missing the playoffs in Detroit but when it’s done um he’s going to I I guarantee you it’s going to be what they did with HOSA come back retire as a Hawk on a one-day contract um same for Jonathan Ta absolutely yeah uh it was just a pleasure to watch those guys play and uh TA will always be one of my all-time favorite players and it hasn’t been quite as painful to watch him in Winnipeg as I thought it would be. I don’t really know why, but um it just hasn’t been. I maybe it’s just he’s been gone so long and it I’ve kind of had moved on. I kind of mourned that loss for a while already. Yeah, it’s different. So TA’s playing in Winnipeg compared to Kane playing in Detroit is different because TA’s got the goodbye. TA played what I think a lot of people thought might have been not only his last game in Chicago. Yeah. But maybe his last game ever. I was I was almost certain it was his last game ever. Um whereas Kane, it was just like you you knew eventually he was going to get traded. You just didn’t know when and then it happened and you were like, “Oh, then it’s over.” And he went to well, he went to the Rangers first. But yeah, I mean it’s seeing TA’s play, it’s almost just like, oh man, I’m glad that he was able to come back and play and make it work. And seeing Kane keep continue on. It’s still a little I mean, it’s still a little weird, but I think it took a little more time to kind of get over it. Uh, got a viewer in Switzerland, 12 mAh, says, “First postgame show watching it at 7:46 a.m.” Nice. He’s writing us from the future. How is tomorrow? Uh that’s awesome. Um it kind it makes me very excited for our Olympic coverage. Yeah. Uh which we’re still finalizing the details of what we’re going to do for it. But because we have people in not only America and Canada but across across the seas and all the seven seven of them watching worldwide like it’s it’s so fun um the reach that we can have in the way that we do this show it. So I’m I’m excited for that. Yeah, absolutely. Uh it’s very cool to see these late night shows. You get a lot of that. Portugal, England, Australia. Budapest. Just someone’s always in here from Budapest. We always from everybody. Yeah. And all of your money is good for Big Brothers Big Sisters. So, let’s keep those donations coming. Next thing I’m very excited for. So, let’s get to 600 so we can play the nickname game. I put a lot of work and study uh research into this. Oh boy. We’re sold out. We can do it. Come on. We need $ 110 more dollars to get to 600. We got to do that. I know there’s enough people out there that can pull their money and force us to do smelling salts. So, let’s do it. Come on. Let’s go. In the meantime, I paid for them already, so let’s so let’s do it. In the meantime, let’s hear from Blackhawks head coach Jeff Flashel. This is courtesy of the Chicago Blackhawks. How would you assess that game? Well, you know, you’re disappointed you didn’t get two points, but with that said, I thought uh we did a lot of good stuff. I mean, we, you know, on the road against a team that um you know, is probably considered one of the Stanley Cup favorites. Certainly one of the teams that they, you know, I think looks like could come out of the West. and uh uh you know in the end we’ll have outchanced them and um you know and and certainly had we’re in position to win the hockey game. Um part of this whole process is is you know put a lot of people in uh situations where they grow and so there’ll be learning opportunities that we’ll go through on Thursday. But overall certainly pleased with uh the process side of it. Disappointed we didn’t get one more point. Guys we struggled a bit in overtime but that was just unbelievable six seven chances to win the game there. Yeah. Yeah, we did. We had a lot of chances there in overtime and you know we we have you know our record once it gets to uh you know isn’t good enough right now like if you flip the record with us in like Anaheim for example we’d be in right there. So we recognize that but I will say I thought you know that overtime we did a great job. Uh we certainly had all the chance. We just did everything but score. You talked about more and Aar’s speed this morning and seemed like they both were able to play off of that and do that tonight. Yeah, especially in the first I thought they were excellent. I thought they were really really skating and and because of that they uh you know they they can really put teams on their heels and and um you know maybe not quite as much as the game went on but I thought in the first especially they’re really skating. So that’s uh the model. That’s what it looks like. That’s what we need to get out of them on a on a on a real consistent basis. The thing that seems different this year is he’s able to create his own offense like that. Yeah, he definitely can create his own space, you know, and and that’s a that’s a really good defenseman that he was able to create enough space to get the shot off. It’s it’s very impressive. Um uh you know, so again, I I wasn’t here a year ago. I can’t speak to it, but but he definitely been able to kind of, you know, selfreate some of those situations. Moore kind of took the blame for the tying goal going for that change, but it seemed like maybe a few mistakes were made. What did you see in that? Yeah, that’ll fall on more than one person. I got to watch it again. and I haven’t watched since I got back in yet, but uh that’ll fall on more than one. Certainly, you know, there’s it’s a area where you can’t change. I think maybe we just didn’t quite reload uh as quick as we could have. maybe just this, you know, like one step and but that’s all, you know, it’s a great team like that needs, especially one of the very best players in the world and um, you know, and so it was unfortunate because uh, you know, we were certainly in a position I thought we had done a really good job up to that point and not giving much up and um, we just again almost took a breath, but that’s part of the learning process. You know, we got some young young guys out there uh, in critical moments and that’s good. That’s what that’s what this is about is is continuing to grow. Late in the third, Lean made a really nice play. sad had a chance for a breakaway and left went with him stride for stride steered him outside. How have you seen his defensive side? Yeah, you know, I think he’s done a good job. You know, he had a little miscue on the first goal, gotten the wrong side of the guy, but overall I think he’s done a pretty good job. He he has uh a real strong stick, meaning, you know, he he can find a way to get stick on puck and disrupt plays. Um he’s just really strong on it. He’s a he’s a guy who probably is faster than he looks. You know, he’s got real powerful strides. Um, I think his defensive game’s growing for sure. Power plays seem to kind of have a rough night though. Vegas did a good job penalty killing it. Any takeaways from that? I’d have to watch again to be honest with you. Um, you know, we we had a couple chances in the in the first. Certainly the the one from behind the net to Connor’s a real good chance, but it wasn’t, you know, we have a chance to win the game with the power play and we don’t do it. So, um, the power play has been good. It’s not going to score every night, but there was definitely areas where, you know, again, my my whole thing in the power plays just don’t have unforced errors, and I thought we had a couple unforced errors. Yeah. All right. There’s Jeff Flashel again, courtesy of the Blackhawks. And five shots on goal on five. The power play. I mean, look, you got But it’s got to be better. There’s no doubt. Vegas is a really good defensive team. Like, you’ve got to give the you got to give the penalty kill some credit, too. They they did a lot. They prevented the Hawks from getting set up very often. But I will say when the Hawks did get set up, they generated some chances. But again, Bedara had a a another awesome shot on the power play that uh Carter Hart gloved out of the air that was ticketed for the top right corner. He just sort of fought it off with the glove save and Oh, an amazing save. Thank god he’s back. Oh, save of the game. So, we’re so blessed. So, welcome back to the league, Carter Hart. ESPN’s broadcast tonight was absolutely nauseating to listen to. If you watched this game on mute, you you had a great time because you saw a great hockey game. Um Steve Levy is a great broadcaster for hockey, not ingame in a studio. Kevin Weekes is a great analyst for hockey, not awesome ingame. Uh John Butcher when he’s not paired with John Portoella is usually pretty good behind the desk. Tors not in game. Tors Torch should bag skate himself. Tors can cuz he didn’t show up for this game. Can retire and just go away. We don’t need him as a coach. We don’t need him coaching US Olympic hockey, which he’s going to do. And I don’t and I don’t need his 10 10 words in a 15minute intermission. I don’t I I don’t need it. and played for Columbus, too. Yeah, thanks, John. And thank you. Yeah, we know Brandon S played for Columbus. Yep. The consistent um and look, okay, Carter Hart coming back two years off, first game back. It’s a storyline, right? 100% understand that. And just real quick, one of the chatters mentioned that there was pregame, we were doing our own pregame, so we missed it. Mhm. There was an explanation on where Carter Hart was. Of course. Of course. How many saves did he make tonight? I’m going to go back and look. Too many. Um 27. 27. They made a point to make every single one of those 27 saves sound like it make it was make or break on the game that every single one of those saves he made. It felt incredibly weird and off-putting to hear them, for lack of a better term, glaze Carter Hart’s performance tonight the way that they did. And and look, you want to talk about the the the, you know, breaking down his game, that’s fine. It was like active rooting for him in in in the game and it just felt freaking weird. And we’re not saying that that we know that you don’t have to you don’t have to blast. It’s a shame that they’re not going to do that. They’re not going to do that. You don’t have to do that. But it just felt weird. It felt like both guys and again Steve Levy and Kevin Weekes are great broadcasters in in the right in the right situations. But it just felt really, really, really weird how much over the top they were going to praise Carter Hart’s game in which he was a negative in goal saved above expected. Yeah, I it’s look, it’s expected. We all knew he was going to be back in the league. It was a matter of time. Um, but it doesn’t need to be a celebration when it happens. I’m sorry. It just it doesn’t have to be a celebration. And that’s exactly what it was. Yeah. Did he play well? He was fine. He was good. Probably better than you thought he would be. He was the winning goalie. Yeah, fine. But like he wasn’t Patrick Wah. No, he wasn’t Dominic Hajek. He wasn’t Spencer Knight. See what I did there? He’s just not Anyway, I don’t even want to cuz all this is going to do is going to lead to more trolling. So, I’m not even here for it. I don’t even mind. But to me, the problem with ESPN is a clear lack of investment in it. You are throwing studio hosts to be playby-play guys. That’s not what they do. I get it. We were talking during the game. EJ Ratic is always thrown into play-by-play roles by NHL Network because it’s NHL Network. They’re selling that screen door that zips itself and like tired of dropping all your car wash supplies. Like they’re it’s Do you have misothelium? It’s a low Yes, it’s a lowbudget operation. I understand that. You got to get what you can get. At least you’re covering the game. This is ESPN, the worldwide leader in sports. They’re your rights holder and are throwing studio hosts on. Someone said on Twitter, I missed this. Someone said that like uh that Tors said, “Let’s get this game wrapped up. Let’s get the clock rolling. We got to get out of here cuz it was a late night game. Don’t do the job. There’s a bunch of people that would love to have your job tors are better analysts than that that would Yeah. And for a guy who made his whole career on being a hard ass and you have to work hard and you got to you got to grind and you got to be the hardest work. He put zero effing work into his job tonight. Zero work completely. And I I feel that that is the that is the approach from ESPN hockey broadcasts most nights unless it’s the A team. If it’s the A team, fine. They do a fine job. Decent. But it feels like show up at the arena. What are the game notes? All right. What? Uh, anyone I should know about on this team? Oh, yeah. Frank Naser. Okay. Yeah. Oliver Moore. Okay. What is he? He’s fast. Okay. For a rightser. Crap. There’s nothing for a rights holder. The level that ESPN is supposed to be for for for sports broadcasting. It It just feels so subpar. Yes. And it’s not a and this is not a isolated incident and because the Blackhawks lost and it was on ESPN, we’re salty. No, like this is across the board. It’s it’s night in and night out. People dread these ESPN games because of the quality of the broadcast and the quality that they’re that they’re getting. Bob Wickusen is so good at at playbyplay for ESPN. He just can’t do every single game that’s on ESPN. You got to find other people who are playby-play people, dedicated play-by-play people who can do it. Because if you slot in people on broadcast in their in their strong suits, then then things get better. The the way TNT has it set up there, that studio panel, every Liam McHugh is the host, you know, Anson Carter and um Beset and Gretzky, like they they break down the game. Henrik Lungquist breaks down the game from all different angles and then they have their playby-play group is their playbyplay group. Kenny Albert, Eddie Ol, Darren Pang is on is on that panel too. Um like uh they it’s got the the people are in the right spots that they want to have on that broadcast. It’s the same way for setting up a hockey lineup. You want to have you don’t want to have a guy on the that’s a fourth liner playing on your on your top line and saying, “Yep, job’s done.” like you want to have guy you want to have people in the right roles to execute a quality enough project and that’s that’s what Turner did right and they found it wasn’t they got Gretzky which is great but it wasn’t only about getting the biggest names they could like you knew as soon as Tors was laid off you knew it was a matter of time before ESPN gave him a deal just because oh he’ll he’s going to say something wacky is he good at the job nope right he’s bad at the job and adds nothing to the broadcast. Say what you want about I know Bisette’s not for everybody. Mhm. But you want to talk about a guy who is locked in on the NHL, locked in on hockey, cares about the sport, knows the players on the ice, knows the players off the ice, puts the work in really good. Anen Carter was not a he was a really good player, but he wasn’t a Hall of Famer, but he put the work in to become a good broadcaster. Henrik Lungquist is improving every game. Like you see him uh they give him the goalie stick and put him in net and he and he shows how things are done. They do the same thing with Anson Carter. They brought in Sarah Nurse to to be an analyst. They they bring in people who want to be there. ESPN from start to finish feels like let’s just get out of here as quick as quickly as we possibly can. It just it just feels like they are not at all invested in the NHL, which is a shame because they are one of the two rights holders. Turner is so much better. It’s so much better. They got they like you said, they’ve got people in the right roles. It’s you look around other sports, right? We were watching the Kansas game uh on the other TV today and Bu Shambi, a professional playby-play guy was on the call, right? how we see Jason Benetti, we see Adam Amin, we see professional playbyplay men doing NFL, NBA, all other MLB games all over the place. Meanwhile, they’re throwing John Buchross and Steve Levy on playbyplay mics. It’s not what they do. You are doing your audience a disservice. And here’s the thing, they don’t care. They don’t care. I I ESPN feels like an unsupervised uh frat house. Just here’s our hockey people. Go figure it out. And we’re not going to pay attention. We’re not going to supervise. We just because we don’t really care. We’re more invested in the NBA and the NFL. So, we’re just going to let our hockey guys be assold them to a standard. There’s no standard of excellence on the ESPN broadcast. Well, it gets better because Thursday is also an ESPN game. Huzzah. Yeah. Thursday’s game against the Kings will again be on ESPN Plus. It’ll be Roxy Bernstein and Cassie Campbell Pascal on the broadcast. I feel like Roxy Bernstein is actually pretty good. Don’t hold me to that. Bernstein is uh noteworthy for being on the last ever broadcast for the Pack 12 network. Yeah. and he’s the Yeah, he was with the A’s. So that is a playby-play man. And I assure you that when we see Alan Samuel Roxy Bernstein, born September 25th, 1972, on the broadcast this week, it’s going to be a lot better than this. You really know your stuff on I’m a big Roxy fan. So yes, uh it’ll be an improved broadcast. All right. Uh we going to go to overtime. We’re going to go to overtime. All right. We’re going to overtime. We got to get we got to get our numbers up here. Yeah, we got we got a couple new ones. We got Super Bork laser, which I believe is another hole, brother. Bork hole. Five bucks. Uh, Aerys mix gives us five bucks. Two bucks from Windy City Hockey and another 20 bucks from Anonymous. So, let’s keep that going. What’s our total at the moment, Sarah? 522. We can do this. We’re a little short, folks. It’s It’s 1 in the morning. I don’t want to make this a we don’t go home till we reach our goal situation because it’s late, but I’m I’m threatening I’m threatening you all that we won’t go off air until we reach till we reach our goal. Yeah, Mario will not go off the air until we reach our goal. Yeah, just leave me leave me and the centipede here. We’ll we’ll we’ll we’ll close the whole show. Uh a couple super chats we had uh to to pay off. Austin $2 super chat says instead of the TNT Bulls, we have the ESPN plus OT loss hawks. Yeah, sure. Sure. Uh, Frank hockey fan. Uh, uh, okay. We already, uh, it’s a good comment. Was okay. The way ESPN talked about if the way ESPN talked about it, Carter Hart was returning from a bout of leukemia while feeding the poor in Africa. I’m pretty sure that wasn’t the case. You’re correct. No, I don’t think that was a story. Uh, and Madhouse Meek gives us $4.99. Says, “Kaiser makes two saves for the VZNA. Thanks for being here past bedtime. Thanks for being with us as well.” Yeah, two uh two two big saves for Kaiser in this one. Um you can relax. I killed the I killed the centipede. Yeah, I know. You keep I see you guys keep looking at your feet. Chloe’s got her feet up. It’s dead. I just bumped my computer. Okay, it’s all squashed over there. It doesn’t I’m still like queezing at the fact that it could crawl. So, it’ll be okay. All right, we just got another $50 super chat. Are they So, we’re $28 away from the 600 threshold. They’re in the drawing. Let’s get the 600. Yeah. anonymous. If you want to be in the drawing for the the tickets, we will need to know who you are. Yes. Yeah. Um, anything? Oh, uh, game pucks. We got to pay off game pucks as well. Yes. The winner of the game puck today is once again Badard. Conor Badard. 78% of the 260 votes. Second place was Spencer Knight, 17%. And third place Tyler Batusi with 5%. So he is now one behind Spencer Knight for the season lead. Uh this is his one, two, three. This is his six game puck. Spencer Knight has seven work to do for Tyler Bertusi, Andre Burkovski, Ardum Lefch, Ryan Green, Sam Lavy, Colton Duck, and Lucas Reichel. I think pull it out. Let it play out. He still has he might Hey, he might get traded back. We’ll give we’ll give the fourth round pick back to them and take Lucas Reichel back. Yeah. Yikes. Won’t happen. But scratched again today. You never know. He was scratched. Yeah, boy. Anyways. Yeah. Um Yep. He was scratched. That’s tough. 100%. Well, yeah. I think I I I think this to to put a bow on this game, broadcast aside and result aside, this was a fun Oh my god, it was a great like the back and forth of it, the you know, knowing that there was a chance to win, how close that they they were in the overtime. Um, Bard, you know, being the star of the show with the goal and the shootout, uh, and in in, you know, the the the go-ahead goal at the time. Um, Spencer Knight playing the way that he did, like it it just it really was another game where you’re just like, man, like this team really is different than we’ve seen in the last few years. And it really feels, you know, this is game what, 26 of the season. Um I I think we’re we’re well and beyond the oh it’s a fluke like oh they’re just they’re just off to a hot start like this this is a team that’s going to be resilient. This is a team that is going to be able to um they’re not perfect. They’re not uh you know they’re not going to be indefable all season. Um but they are going to be able to run with the big dogs and I think that’s a big confidence boost for the guys in the room and for me for me as a as a analyst. Um it’s been a big confidence boost to believe that a fan and an analyst. Um it’s it’s a big confidence boost to really feel like, you know, it’s a corner turned in in what is going to be this process of the Blackhawks going from where they were when Kyle Davidson took over the organization to where we want to get them get get uh get back to as as fans and where the organization wants to get back to. They are one point out of the wild card. They and Seattle have 28 points each, but Seattle has two games in hand. San Jose in the top wild card spot with 29 points. They’ve actually been really good lately. Um they kicked the crap out of Utah last night. San Jose, another three-point night for Mlin Celibbrini. I thought Mlin Celbrini and his rag tag group of former Blackhawks uh was going to be really bad this year. And credit to them like he they’re in they’re in this the same boat. Uh Celabbrini just like Baddard is carrying that team on his shoulders and he has you know a good supporting cast around him as does Connor Baddard and they’re they’re showing up when they need to and they’ve got good goalending from uh uh from from Oscar this season. Um it’s it’s it’s been fun and to see games like the Ducks game eventually when you know the Hawks and Sharks lock up I’m sure that’s going to be uh some some good games like it’s going to be fun. I Yeah. Hey, it’s nice to know, too. We did hit our 600 uh mark. Thank you very much to Mad House Meek with 20. Another 10 from Anonymous. And I think I mentioned this $50 one, but in case I didn’t, another 50 from Anonymous. So, thank you. Um there’s no game where the Hawks go into it where I go, they don’t have a chance tonight. No. Or they’re going to get stopped. The one time I was like, Colorado was Colorado and they lost one nothing. Yeah. It was down to the It was, you know, another game where you basically say flip a coin, right? And it’s Kale Mar that game that makes the difference. And what’s also very cool is you look at like this league is shifting. We talked about how, you know, Florida’s last place in East, but you got Anaheim in first in the Pacific. Young team, you’ve got San Jose in a wild card spot. You’ve got the Hawks sniffing. You got Utah sniffing. Meanwhile, Calgary, Nashville, Vancouver, St. Lewis, Winnipeg, these older teams are at the bottom of the West. Look at Minnesota. Jper Walstead has his fourth shutout in six games. That’s crazy. Like he’s playing out of his mind. He has pulled them. They’re 80 and2 in their last 10. They got off to a really bad start and now they’re on they’re on fire. They got Minnesota’s got some good young talent obviously. So like you’re seeing, you know, you’ve still got your, you know, your Colorado and your Dallases, but those teams also have really good young players on them. Young talent. The top of this league is very strong and very young. Montreal is another one who’s kind of fallen short a little bit this year of expectations, but at the same time, they’re they’re what they got to leaprog four teams to get in a wild card spot, but they’re two points out. Yeah, the East is the East is such a cluster. So, all right, we going to do the nickname thing here before we go. Yes. All right, let’s go. Oh, I’m so glad we get to I wish we did jersey numbers because I would We’d be here all night. That’s too easy for you. That’s too easy. All right, so here’s the game. If anyone is familiar with Hockey Reference, Yep. uh which if you’re watching this, you probably are. Uh they have a feature where they will maybe they have a feature where they will list uh nicknames for players. Some of them are very obvious, some of them everybody knows. Okay. Some of them are so obscure obscure that they may only be found once on a Tumblr post in 2009. Okay. But they are found there. Okay. So these and they count as a nickname. Are these all hawks? Are they all current? These are these are current and former Blackhawks. Okay. These are all uh verified nicknames from hockey reference. Okay. I don’t think I’m going to do good on this. And there are 10 of them. All right. All right. All right. So, 10 names. You’re going to give me one answer and I’m going to say yes or no. Okay. Correct or incorrect. 60 seconds on the clock. Oh, wow. Okay. 10 names in one minute. All right. All right. Are you ready? I’m ready. All right. 60 seconds on the clock. Okay. And away. We go. Whose nickname is Bambi? Blic. Incorrect. Duncan Keith. Whose nickname is Manchild? Manchild. Manchild. No, it’s not Connor Bernard. It’s not Sabrina Carpenter. Manchild played in tonight’s game. Incorrect. Brandon Sad. Whose nickname was the Bulldog? Rusi Martan Le Point. Whose nickname was Bones? Oh, I know this one. Bones. I don’t know. Boland. Incorrect. Tony Monte, whose nickname was Archie Jamnov. Yes, correct. Whose nickname was Shootsie? Shootsy Sharp. Incorrect. Max Doy, whose nickname was Little Peekaboo. Little Peekaboo. Theo Flurry. Incorrect. Patrick Kaine, whose nickname was the Swedish Missile Defense System. Swedish Missile Defense System has got to be John Merson. Yes, correct. Whose nickname was Superman spelled like the food? That’s Brian Campbell. Incorrect. Ilia McKaya, whose nickname is Gargaml? Fino. Yes, that’s correct. Whose nickname is mayor of Charleston? Mayor of Charleston. Reggie Dunlop. Incorrect. It was Matt Grizzlick. Did he get it? No, he did not get it. Those are horrible. Those are the dumb of What is it? Captain Peekaboo. That is offputting. Peekaboo. I don’t like that at all. Patrick Kane’s well-known nickname. Obviously, I do not want to know the origins of what is it? Baby Peekaboo. Little Peekaboo. Little Peekaboo. No, that’s that’s got a bad story behind it. Guaranteed. Uh you got uh you got Nick Felino, correct? Gargaml don’t know is the villain on the Smurfs. You got uh Nicholas Jmerson’s correct. The Swedish missile defense system. Uh you got Archie for Alexis Yamnov. Correct. So you got three out of 10. Those are dumb ones. Again, Bones was Tony Aman. The Bulldog was Mark. Now that you mentioned Bones, I feel like I’ve heard that before. Manchild for Brandon Sod. I would have thought you would have got that one cuz they probably called him T-Bone cuz he’s Tony and then it turned to Bones. That makes sense. Yeah, could uh Duncan Keith was Bambi. I thought you would have got that one. Uh Max Doi Shootsy was on his jersey in Montreal when they did a special warm-up night. Remember when you could wear specialty warm-up jerseys? Uh he had Shootsy on the back of his uh jersey for his nickname. Too woke. Uh Ilia McKay’s Twitter handle is Superman65. S O U P soup. IAV’s Twitter. Yes. And does he say anything? Is it just a bunch of three dots? While he was active on Twitter, he had a ad campaign with, I believe, Campbell Soup Canada where he would pick the game day soup of the game. Chicken noodle. That’s a real thing that’s up on Twitter. Okay. Uh Matt Grizzlick is known as the mayor of Charles Town from his time in Boston, given to him by Tory Krug. And little Peekaboo is Patrick Kane’s nickname. I don’t which or originated I don’t want to know this because because his initials are P and K. So PK Peak Peekabboo that’s how it worked. Little Peekaboo. And uh that originated from both Patrick Sharp and Jonathan Tae uh back in the the haha days of the Blackhawks. And that is that is the Tumblr post from 2009 that I found. Okay. That mentions Jonathan Tay calling Patrick Kane little peekaboo. All right. The that reminds me of like the old ice sat and gum trick, which is I can’t talk about on the show. PE men of a certain age will know what the ice sat and gum trick is. You just pull something through your shorts and it looks like chewing gum. I’m I’m That’s gross. I’m I’m glad that we got to play that game. And I’m glad that we got to educate each other about the true I don’t like losing nicknames of all of these Blackhawks great. I’m going to bag skate myself. so to speak. When when Detroit is here on uh December 13th, yeah. Um I I really hope they skate, they do a morning skate, I will stick around for Detroitits and I will go into the Detroit locker room and I will go up to Patrick Kane and say, “What’s up, little peek-a-oo?” No, I think you should just ask a question in a scrum be little peekaboo. What’s the what is the uh what’s the secret to your success? Uh just like throw it in there. Oh, interesting. Oh, peekab-boo. Uh, you know, you discord your whatever. Uh, yeah, that’s I’m gonna bring up love. I’m gonna bring up Mayor of Charleston to Macros, though. All right. I like that. I like that. All right, we’re going to bed, y’all. That was good. Do we have a final tally? Yeah. What’s our final raised? Final money. 622. So, we were the first show to do this. No, no, no. We’re the last. Oh, they only got a thou. How much did they get? They got Okay. I gotta say, for being a show that was basically only happening uh after Giving Tuesday, getting over $600 is pretty good. Yeah, thank you. I will I will appreciate it very much. Um you still have what? Nah, we don’t need to hear from Frank. I think it’s going to make me sad. That’s okay. He’s going to get a goal. As soon as he gets a goal, they’re gonna gonna flood out. He’ll score. He’s still getting points and still getting chances. That’s what matters. Yeah, he’s he’s he’s playing well. Oh, dip. Really? Wow. Okay, so we’re we’re 78 away from our goal. And uh thank you, Jules. We are extending the show. I will say I’m we’ll stay till 1:30. We got 12 minutes. Okay. 12 minutes. 12 minutes. All right. 12 minutes. Is everyone okay with that? This is a group. Okay. For it’s for the do spelling salts. You don’t need our permission. It’s already ordered. It’s going to be here tomorrow. You can just take it home with you if you want. I need an excuse to do it. Just do it. Let’s be like late night Hawks game. Let’s go. I got to wake up. I will say it is 119 in the morning. So we are what is it math thing? Um we are $88 away from a,000. That’s a little peekaboo number. Who wants to donate? 78 away. Sarah’s donated $88. Let’s go, Sarah. Oh, we did it. All right. Well, we do we got to do the Demodv thing. Yeah. Let’s Let’s give a couple minutes to Ivan Demadov uh and his fan base that is I think still vocal in Blackhawks world. Go ahead and be mad about it. Not enjoy a really good player. It is dwindling. Um, okay. Let me rewind the clock. Yep. Back to the summer of 2024. Conor Bredard needs a wingman. Yes, he does. And there is one lighting it up in Russia. Yep. And his name is Ivan Demov. The concern though I have, Mario, is will he come to the United States? And I know that’s a bit of a concern at this point. I think he will. Okay. You seem pretty confident in that. I’m very confident that he will. Um, look, I it’s very obvious that by the way, it was Jewels. Thank you, Jules. $400 in donations. Thank you very much, Jules. Just now or in total? Just now. 300 then another hundred. Oh. Oh, okay. Dang, Jules. Let’s go. So, we’re gonna if Jules can go to the game. Yeah. You’re getting multiple. For every 50 bucks you donate, you get an entry, right? That’s quick math is uh eight entries. There you go. That’s a good It’s a good chance. Um, yeah. I mean, so we as a show, Y, Mei, and Greg. Yep. Uh, we were on the Demodv train. Yes. And I think I I will say for myself if I were to go back knowing what I know now, taking a line from the movie Wish, um I still picked Emidov and I think I wonder if and now we know that the trade was attempted to get the fourth pick from Columbus to get both players, Levinov and then Demadov. I wonder if you take him at two, it doesn’t matter what happens at three. Maybe that trade goes through at four anyways. Mhm. Or what happens at three changes because Demodov’s off the board. I know Anaheim didn’t take him. Columbus wasn’t going to take him. Um I just wonder how that changes things. I wonder if you go Demadov at two, you try and make the move or you move make a move with somebody else and Levchenov is still there for you to get. I I I still think that that could have been possible. But I think for for me the what Lev has done has been really great, really impressive. I’m very happy with him. Very happy with him. And I think if you were if you were looking at it realistically going into the draft, you knew that there was a lot there to like, right? So even taking him, it’s not like it was Demodov or trash. You’re getting Arm Levchenov who is right now blossoming into a defense. He’s going to be your best defenseman when you’re that you can play 18, 19, 20 minutes a night. You give power play opportunities and and you see that from him. But I just look at what Demidov probably would have been would have been right alongside Connor Bard. And I think that that would have been a lot of fun. I think that would have I I I think you have two guys that would really play off of each other really well. Um, and I think it takes a little bit of offensive pressure off of a guy like Frank Nazar who has a lot of talent and will be a very good uh very key piece to this to this group moving forward, but you don’t have to necessarily say, “Oh, Frank has to be the number two guy, right, going forward.” So that’s that’s that’s just me. I agree. I would have I would if we could redo it, I would still take Demov because you’re right. I think that he is going to grow into a spectacular player. Uh he’s got 21 points in 27 games this year. He’s not getting a ton of ice time by the way. Uh against Toron uh here tonight he had 175 1412 against Colorado 1207 versus Vegas. So he’s he’s playing third fourth line minutes special teams power play of course. Yeah. So when he starts getting top six minutes those numbers are going going to increase and be playing with better players too. Surprising that he’s not. But here’s the thing. One thing we know about Kyle Davidson is he is not like his predecessor where it is what is right in front of me. Mhm. I need to focus on the 2024 draft right now and I can’t look uh anywhere beyond that. Right. Right. Whereas it feels like Davidson said if I’m choosing simply between Lev and Deanov, maybe I take Davidov. However, looking ahead to the 2025 draft, it is very heavy at forward, very very heavy at forward with Misa and Fondell and Hagen and on like it was a ve uh do like it was very very loaded up front so Davidson knew okay chances are I’m going to be picking in the top five again next season and there’s going to be a really good forward for me there. So, I’m going to take Lechov now because I don’t think we have a franchise defenseman. I feel good about Vic. I feel good about Renzel’s development. I feel good about Dumb Master Allen, but none of those guys are franchise number one defenseman. I think Ardum Lev can be that. I’m taking him. I’m going to try to get Demov too. If not, I feel really good about Misa Fondell. Boom boom boom boom boom right and he ends up with Anton Fondell who many think could be here by the end of this year. He was talking about him today uh saying that they’re very happy with the way he’s playing over there. They can see him playing up and down the lineup center or wing. They’re thrilled with him. Yeah. Right. You also have Roman Canerov. So if you don’t take if you take Demov there, you don’t get Levino. Then you got Demoval. That’s great too, right? Mhm. But at the same time, now you’re sort of looking at your decor and saying, “Okay, we feel pretty good about all like all these guys, but who do we feel great about? Who do we feel like could be the number one of ones, 1A defenseman?” And for all the shortcomings that Art Lesnov has had this year, the plays where you go, “Oh my god.” And you pull your hair out and like Arty, what are you doing? If you can’t acknowledge that you see that he is going to be a great defenseman, you’re kidding yourself. You are just dug in because you’re upset they didn’t take Demodov and you’re refusing to look at Lebanon for what he is and what he’s going to be. Duncan Keith at 20 was nowhere near what Ardum Lechnov is right now. And I’m not saying Ardum Lefch is gonna be Duncan Keith. I’m not saying that. But I’m saying from where he’s at as a player at this age, also considering change of country from junior to college to Rockford to Chicago in a very short amount of time. He’s learning how to live in this country, right? He is he’s 20 and he’s 20 years old and he is thriving for a a guy his age. So, and even like the point total is not that far off. Demod’s got 21. What’s up got 13? 13 or 14. Has 13 points. 13. Yeah. As a defenseman. Yes. Yeah. And he’s playing, you know, 20 minutes a night most nights. He’s your power play one quarterback. He’s been a little reluctant to shoot. Getting better at that lately. Scored his first goal. You are seeing the evolution of Ardum Levchenov happening here. And I think that I don’t think there was a wrong pick there with Demov. It’s just really fun to imagine, oh my god, what Bard and Deovv could have been together. Yeah. But I think and our message I think all along though has been like, okay, it didn’t happen. Let’s not dwell on it for the next 10 years, right? Yeah. It doesn’t make a lot of sense. I it’s I and I you got a really good player and and definitely as Lefchnov has progressed this season um it’s gotten way quieter. Yes, it has. Way quieter. I agree. Anyways, and yeah, as people are pointing out in the chat, yes, we’re very happy with where Roman cancer is at and how Nickis has has progressed and what Fondell’s been doing. Like they have a lot of Kevin McKenna this year because of the Panthers. Yes, thank you Panthers. Um so yeah, it’ll it’ll be completely fine. Um, anyways, yep, that was a fun little trip in the time machine. Yes, we’ll get back to present day and we will be back on Thursday. Well, technically tomorrow. Tomorrow in 30 some odd hours. We’ll be back here. Hawks and Kings LA. Yeah. All right, let’s go to bed. I’m tired. Thanks everybody for tuning in. Thank you for donating and uh putting us over the top. Appreciate it. Uh if you don’t forget if you did $50 or more. Yeah. Um email us uh Blackhawks atallchgo.com. Make sure you screen grab your donation. Uh if you can go to the December 13th game between the Blackhawks and the Red Wings. That is our CHGO takeover night. First of three. Yeah. And Jules cannot. Jules lives in LA. So uh thank you Jules. So, if you’re in the Chicago area, let us know um if you’re eligible to do it. We will put you into the raffle. We’ll we’ll record it. Maybe we’ll do it before we do Smelling Salts. Uh and we’ll uh we’ll make sure we know uh who is going to be uh accompanying us on December 13th for those two tickets that that opened up. And if you want to go to our final takeover because the sweet night is sold out on January 19th. Playoff implications very likely. I’m saying April 15th, the regular season finale at home against the San Jose Sharks, Baddard versus Celebrini at the United Center. Uh, come to that game with us, hang out with us in the CHGO die hard or the CHDO crew. Uh, pregame happy hour at Crossroads. Those tickets are in the 300 level. It’s a little bit uh uh it’s a little bit more affordable than I would say the Detroit and the obviously the uh sweet game was. Uh limited tickets are available for that. And being that it’s the last regular season postgame show of the year after the game, uh anyone who’s going to be uh going for the Takeover event is invited to come back and be a live studio audience uh for the final home postgame show of the regular season before the playoffs. Yes. All right. I’m just going to torch and say yeah because I need to go to bed. All right. Let’s go. Yes. Yeah. We don’t have this. They are not here right now. Thank you uh FedEx nonsponsored uh but we will pay it off and we will do it uh for the views. So all right and we see a good morning from Sweden. Jackson. Now I’m assuming that’s not how you say it in Swedish, but that’s how all the like boys in the baseball league spell Jackson. Jackson or J A CX C YN. Jason. Jason. Well, good morning anyway. All right. Good night. We got to go. Goodbye. We’re going to let our producers go to bed. Bye. Love you. Thank you. Yes. Hit the button. Hit that song. There we go. Hit Big Dave. Fred House. Nail it. "VINDICATION!💪🏿"
Connor bedard in the Blackhawks 11 wins has 11G 13A
In 15 loses 5G 8A
Bedsy could use some help right about now
Chicago outplayed them the whole game and Bedard looked like the best player in the NHL, tough loss ending in a SO
Tough loss, PP was the difference, or lack thereof. Good show, hope the Hakws win the next one!
Not loving the Hawks’ defensemen. Seems there’s a lot of room for improvement to match the exciting young forward depth.
