Broadcaster’s thoughts on Las Vegas Raiders offense under play caller Greg Olson

The Raiders make a few minor roster moves ahead of their week 14 match up with the Denver Broncos. And an NFL draft analyst insider shares his thoughts on the upcoming quarterback class. I’m glad to be able to call him a friend. and he works with CBS Sports and NFL Network. He was actually on the call for the Raiders and Chargers week 13 at Sofi Stadium. And I didn’t know until he was a guest on my radio show. He’s actually going to be on the call week 14 at Allegian Stadium, Raiders and Broncos. So, I’ll catch up with him in the press box for sure. Uh not only is he great at the playbyplay and color commentary like he was doing and will be doing uh this week uh for the Raiders and Broncos game, but he’s great when it comes to the NFL draft as well. He’s uh very uh you know deep into you know the breakdowns of the players and uh he’s always part of the broadcast all three days you know Thursday, Friday, Saturday leading up to the draft everything. Does a great job for NFL Network. You’ll see him uh you know during the draft for all seven rounds. I always catch up with him no matter what site the the draft is at. I’m always there and I like to catch up with them. Well, he shared his thoughts on multipleh subjects on my radio show on Tuesday segment number two. You’ll get his thoughts on the Raiders offense the first time out under Greg Olsen and what makes sense and what doesn’t make sense for a Pete Carolled team and an offense to go with it. That’ll be in segment number two. We’ll talk about that as well here in segment number one, news and notes, the roster news, plus what Charles Davis has to say about the upcoming quarterback class for the draft. We’ll jump right into that after I tell you about the title sponsor of the show, which is FanDuel. Right now, new customers can bet just $5. And if your bet wins, you’ll get $300 in bonus bets to use across the app. So off top, let’s go ahead and get into the roster moves. The Raiders on Tuesday signed quarterback Greedy Vance to the active roster. They waved linebacker Jamon Davis and they released kicker Greg Joseph from the practice squad. So Greedy Vance, he was a guy that played in the game on Sunday versus the Chargers. He was the guy that on Saturday was the uh the elevation. And I’ve talked about that a bunch throughout the course of the year. Uh, like don’t be surprised when you see Raiders PR tweet out or the Raiders in general tweet out on Saturday afternoon or evening, hey, we’ve elevated insert player to the active roster for Sunday’s game. And then a lot of times they’ll revert back to the practice squad following the game. Well, Greedy Vance is a guy that they elevated on Saturday. He was an undrafted free agent out of USC, a guy that we talked about, I feel like, quite a bit throughout the course of training camp because he was getting a little bit of attention and seemed like he was a guy that could potentially grow a little bit. Uh, but hasn’t really done too much this year. But now he’s added to the active roster. They wave linebacker Jamon Davis. He was a guy that got a little bit of burn on the active roster. They make room for for a greedy Vance on the active roster by waving Jamon Davis. And by waving him, right, he obviously has to clear waiverss to be added to or or assigned as a free agent to any other roster. But he can be claimed by another team or he can be reverted to the practice squad if the Raiders so choose to. But they have to have a spot on the practice squad to do that. Well, they made that spot on the practice squad by releasing kicker Greg Joseph. He was the guy that was brought in as competition for Daniel Carlson, which more was really like, “Hey, look over here. They’re bringing in other kickers because Daniel Carlson isn’t getting it done.” I don’t think there was any real competition. I think it was just a, “Hey, this is what’s going on and you’ve got to start kicking a lot better.” And to his credit, he has. So, I’ll give him credit for that. Uh the Raiders did the same thing when they uh they waved Chris Davis or uh Chris Smith, I should say, excuse me, when they waved him and I said, “Oh yeah, they made a move a spot on their practice squad so he can clear waiverss and they could put him on there.” Lo and behold, the Rams actually claimed him off waiverss and put him on the active roster. So Chris Smith is now with the Rams. And well, they just didn’t get their guy that they thought was going to come back. So maybe they’ll get Jamon Davis, maybe another team will pull what the Rams did and sign him to their uh their team by claiming him off waiverss. But more than likely than not, you’ll see uh Jam and Davis clear waiverss and end up on the Raiders practice squad. So that’s just like I said, the minor roster moves that they made ahead of week 14’s game versus the Denver Broncos. And I still expect to see uh some elevation coming up on Saturday, uh like they normally do. Now, real quick, wanted to get into what Charles Davis had to say about the potential quarterbacks in the upcoming draft. And I know it’s early. It’s early December. I don’t even like to deal with uh you know with the the draft right now, but it is what it is. Everyone knows the Raiders are going to have a top pick. Everyone knows that they need a franchise quarterback, but is their guy there going to be there for them? Do they see a guy that they identify as their franchise quarterback? Don’t just go get one because you need one. Get one because you see a guy that you like. You identify him as your guy and you’re going to build around his skill set, not try to fit him in with what your system says he should do. Here’s Charles Davis on potential quarterbacks in the upcoming draft responding to my question. Check it out. I know it’s not draft season yet. Is there any idea? Do you have any quarterback at the top of your head that you kind of like at this stage of the game? No, I do not. So, hey, I hear you. I hear you. You know what we heard last year though? Hey, if you need a quarterback, next year is going to be the year to get it. I feel like we hear that every year. And Q, you’re exactly right, but this year was supposed to be a particular bonanza. And when preeason, it was like a a wealth of riches. Yep. Right now, where we’re sitting, the Indiana kid, Mendoza, is probably top of the food chain. Yep. But I don’t know that he’s top of the food chain. Like, hey, everybody’s got to go get him in the top five. Right now, as we sit here, and there’s a long way to go, this could all change, and it always does. You and I know that. But if we’re sitting here right now, December 2nd, correct? Yep. I will tell you it feels more like Kenny Picket year because you know Kenny came out and was what 22 and he’s the first quarterback taken. Yep. Sure was. And then the next two quarterbacks didn’t go until the third round. I don’t know that we’ll go that deep. But we’re not go as we sit here today. This is not a day where we’re going to say, “Hey, all you quarterbacks go get fitted for a suit. You’re going in the top 10.” Because that’s not happening. So Mendoza probably number one, but Charles Davis at this point doesn’t see this as that stellar class that many talked about, right? And that’s you remember it last year. It’s like, hey man, if you need a quarterback, it’s the next year. It’s not this year, right? And I don’t think that, you know, Cam Ward is a guarantee to even be the Tennessee Titans long-term quarterback. I think that the Tennessee Titans went out and got him because they know that they needed a quarterback and they got desperate and said, “Well, who’s the best one out of all of them?” and they decided Cam Ward was that guy, right? And then you saw Jackson Dart, the Giants traded back up into the end back end of round one to go get him. Uh you saw a guy like Tyler Shook go later on to the Saints. You saw a guy like Dylan Gabriel go to the Browns. You saw Chador Sanders go to the Browns. But it didn’t seem like it was a very stellar draft class when it came to quarterbacks. Then I don’t know how stellar it is this year. And I know there’s guys like Mendoza, there’s guys like Simpson, there’s guys like Moore, right? I think that all those guys have their warts. There’s other guys as well that are out there and and available, but you know, one, are they going to come out? Two, do they have enough experience? I think a guy like Simpson does not, right? There’s a lot of different guys that you could take a look at and say, “Yeah, but and decide that that’s not your guy.” So, we’ll see. And there’s, like I said, like Charles Davis said, there’s a lot of time between now and then. And some guys, maybe even this upcoming weekend, championship weekend, they’ll have an opportunity to prove that they could be that franchise guy. And as John Mlan always tells me, “OQ, don’t worry. Somebody will wow uh teams at the combine.” in Indianapolis at the underwear Olympics. And you know, he’s not wrong about that. We’ll hear more from Charles Davis coming up with segment number two. Before we get to that though, I do want to tell you about the media schedule for today. We’ll get a chance to meet with head coach Pete Carroll at quarterback Gino Smith and of course Ashton Genty. 11:35 to 12:20. So 11:35 a.m. to 12:20 this afternoon. We’ll talk to those guys in the indoor facility at the podium. And the the locker room will be open. So we’ll be able to talk to any player available at that time. practices at 12:45. I won’t be there for that because I have my radio show starts at 2 o’clock. So, I got to hustle back to the house and get ready for that. But Pete Carol, Gino Smith, Ashton Genty, and anyone in the locker room. Fair game for your boy. If I get anything good, I’ll definitely bring it to the show. But coming up in segment number two, speaking of good, Charles Davis talks about the Raiders offense after talking to coaches, talking to players ahead of game number uh number 12 in week number 13, their action versus the Chargers this past Sunday. And you’ll hear that coming up in segment number two of today’s Lockdown Raiders podcast. [Music] All right, Raid Nation. Here we go. Segment number two of today’s Locked On Raiders podcast. We do want to thank you off top for making the Locked On Raiders podcast your first listen of the day. You know, we definitely appreciate that. Wanted to get into what Charles Davis had to say about the Raiders offense. When you’re on the call for any game, you get the production meetings, you get a chance to talk to the head coach, you get a chance to talk to offensive coordinator, you talk to the starting quarterback, you start to, you know, you talk to somebody on defense. And so Charles Davis, again, you heard from him in segment number one talking about the quarterback class. He had that opportunity. Obviously, last week against the Chargers was the first time that Greg Olsen was calling the plays under head coach Pete Carroll. I asked Pete Carol if it was something uh similar to what he was looking for on Monday during the press conference because again, I want to see what he wants to see from this Raiders offense and see how close the Raiders can get knowing it was only one week. So, they’re not going to all of a sudden just change the game and this Raiders offense is going to look completely different in one week and really just a handful of days. We already know that that is not the case, but uh you’ll hear me ask the question to CD about the offense from Sunday verse LA ran by Greg Olsen. Check it out. Greg Olsson got his first opportunity to call the plays this past Sunday. Do you think that that was more of like what Pete Carol was looking for? I do. Now, the production still wasn’t fantastic, right? But the operation, the intent definitely was much more like that. And then look, hindsight’s 2020, right Q? when things don’t work out, we’re like, I can’t believe, you know, but why’ they do that, you know, and when they work out, that was brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. I mean, that’s what we do. That’s how we are as people. But when Chip Kelly was hired to come in with the way Chip Kelly has run offense, right, with everything that he has done in the past, did anyone once think to themselves, I don’t know that that jives with Pete Carol, right? Because I because I did. Yeah. I was like, now that’s interesting. And I, you know, look, I don’t have any empirical numbers here and and it’s wrong for me to try and get there, but I think more times than not, if you know the past history of a certain person and what they like and say come in and with something diabetically, you know, opposite, right? Or way beyond what they were doing before. I’m sure they think they can mash it together. I’m sure they think that, oh yeah, well, we share this and and and and this is the extra that he’s bringing. I’m sure a lot of that goes into it, but when it goes south, you do look back and go, “Yeah, I don’t know that we were right for each other in the first place.” And I don’t think it was a personality thing. I do think that they actually liked each other. I do think that they like talking ball and challenging each other, doing those sorts of things. It just didn’t work. Now, part of it is they just can’t run the ball, right? I know they want to and they’re trying, but they can’t run it well enough to have the the effect you need. Really good detailed answer. And that’s what Charles Davis always does. He always provides great detailed answers and information and you know it’s just it’s one it’s why he’s so good on the call uh because he has such great details and he’s so descriptive in what he’s saying and so you can always uh picture it you understand it completely. It’s not some, you know, some kind of language that you don’t understand. But, you know, it it’s it was it was good to hear that it was something closer to what Pete Carol was looking for. But then at the same time, it was almost like, well, why in the world did you not just do go in a direction like that to begin with, right? And then, it’s funny because you heard Charles Davis say, did anyone not think that, you know, this relationship between Pete Carol and and and Chip Kelly was not going to work? like they’re they’re how are they going to get along? And he said he did and that’s when I just kind of got egg on my face because as you know I thought that this Raiders offense was going to be a strength because all of a sudden Pete Carol was thinking outside the box and he’s bringing in Chip Kelly which is a sharp mind and man this is going to be a very unpredictable offense because Chip Kelly can do this that and the third and it was everything but that. But my thing, and it’s funny, I still remember being in New Orleans on Radio row ahead of Super Bowl 59 when we all got the news that Chip Kelly was going to be the OC. And I thought, man, this does not seem like a Pete Carol hire. This is not the kind of coach I expected to be Pete Carol’s, you know, offensive coordinator. But again, I just thought, all right, well, Pete Carol’s trying to show that he has evolved. Pete Carol is trying to show that it’s not doesn’t have to be the same cookie cutter offense that he’s always ran. like he was out of football for a while and he learned a lot. He observed a lot. He saw Chip Kelly at at Ohio State and you know he liked what he saw and wants to bring that to the NFL and I thought, man, okay, way to go Pete Carol. Little did I know that it was an arranged marriage, right? And so that’s that’s the big problem. And so now the Raiders have to decide, you know, we’ve talked about their big decisions that they have to make at the end of the season. And I know the next handful of games are going to determine it if Pete Carol can be this guy leading the team forward. I think that the Raiders are going to try to give him every effort. This is just my gut feeling. Give him every effort to stay on as the head coach. I don’t think that they want to fire him. I really, again, just my gut feeling. I don’t think that they want to move on from him. But if they’re going to keep him, they’ve got to let him bring in who fits with what they that he wants to do straight up. And look, Pete Carol, you know, he may have a decision to make, and we’ve talked about it multiple times. They may say, “Pete, look, we don’t want to fire you. We don’t. We are not in the business to hire and fire head coaches. You’ve got multiple years on your deal. You’ve got a track record that shows that you can do this. You you turn organizations around. We want you to do that. We want you to, you know, be able to execute the vision that you had in your mind, but your your your your son is going to have to go. The offensive line is not doing what it’s supposed to do, and you’re going to have to move on from him.” And he might say, “Thanks, but no thanks.” as a lot of fathers would be like, “Hey, I don’t I don’t have the stones to to, you know, to to to fire my son. I I don’t want to do that. So, I’ll I’ll just we’ll just mutually part ways.” I could see that happening. I could see him having to, you know, make the tough decision to move on from his his son if that comes down, if that’s the ultimatum that this team puts in front of him. And if they do and he stays on, whatever, however he gets there, if he stays on beyond this year, he has to get an offensive coordinator that fits with what he wants to do. Regardless if we think that, oh man, this is going to be a basic offense. This is going to be, you know, this isn’t going to be creative enough. It’s not 2025, 2026 enough, whatever the case may be. You know, you want to see Cliff Kingsberryish, you want to see stuff like that. like you might not see that, but to give them a chance to even have a little bit of success, they have to be able to allow Pete Carol to bring in his own guy, you know, and and obviously it’s not a Chip Kelly type guy. And the offense that Chip Kelly wanted to run is not the kind of offense that Pete Carroll wants to run. And you saw Pete you saw Greg Olsen have at least a effort to try to run the Rock, right? 19 carries for Ashen Genty on on Sunday. So you saw them have that that attention to detail. Genty mentioned it after the game that hey it felt like that there was more emphasis on running the ball which is something that Pete Carol’s been been preaching. So for them to execute any form of offense for them to be able to make Brock Bowers that much more of a weapon, Michael Mayer that much more of a weapon, other wide receivers that much more of a weapon, they’ve got to have a run game, right? They’re obviously going to have to have an overhaul with that offensive line. Uh I feel like they need at least two to three uh starters on that offensive line. and they need to find a way to get them whether it’s through the draft or free agency, right? And who knows, maybe Caleb Rogers is going to be one of those guys. Maybe Charles Grant will be one of those guys. We don’t know. We haven’t seen enough of those guys yet. But they need to at least fill three voids. I think that they probably need uh I know, not probably. They need a center and I feel like they need two guards. Uh they also need to decide what they’re going to do with Jackson Powers Johnson. Is he in? Is he not in? Was Pete Carol down with him? Was Chip Kelly the issue with JPJ? like who did not like JPJ, right? Because clearly there’s an there is a a disconnect. So, what are you going to do with him? Who what is he going to play? What role is he going to play? Is he going to be your center? Is he going to be your guard? What do you want him to do? Just pick a spot for him. Let him be there. He doesn’t need to compete with Alex Kappa. We know that that’s a cap, right? Alex Kappa and JPJ shouldn’t be competing with each other, right? But you have to make decisions. So, uh, I just hope that if they do decide to keep P Carol, I think that it’s a it’s heavily, you know, going to be heavily talked about between now and the end of the season, if they do hold on to him, they have to allow him to be able to pick the offensive coordinator that best fits with what he wants to do, not what necessarily Tom Brady wants to do or Mark Davis wants to do. It has to be with what the head coach wants to do. It’s the only way this thing is going to have a chance to look somewhat successful and be somewhat successful in 2026. What’s on your mind, your calls, and texts? We’ll close out the show. 707-654-4693. We’ll hear from you next. [Music] Here we go, Ray Nation. Segment number three of today’s Lockdown Raiders podcast. Your calls and text strap that Lockdown Raider podcastmail line 707-654-4693. Let’s start off with a call from Raider 783. He’s calling to talk about the offensive line, one and done coaches, and what may need to be done in order for head coach Pete Carroll to stick around in 2026. Here’s Raider 783. Hey Q, just a couple quick thoughts we’re all talking about. Uh, just first one, believe the obvious. Offensive line been a big issue for me. The check engine light has been blinking red for like four years and I didn’t feel like it really got talked about enough until last year and obviously now the engine is seized up and it’s all we can talk about because it’s a big issue. I can see they made some subtle issues tries to try to make it better. This year they’re not going to have to be so subtle. They’re going to have to really go after it. Um second, I hate the idea of a one and done coach. I didn’t like doing it to Pierce. I don’t like doing it to Carol, but I can see in both cases where it’s proudly necessary, but if Pete Carol manages to hang on to the job because he does have a very long and welldeserved reputation as a coach. I mean going all the way back to when he coached the Roman Gladiators in the year 225. Um, so if he keeps the job next year, I have an idea to make his off seasonason a little easier. Maybe somebody can tug Brennan Carol’s cocoa. Maybe he’ll read the room and he’ll tell his dad that he needs to take a year off from football to go backpack across Europe or or college football is where his heart is really at. That might make life a little easier for beat. So anyway, man, thank you and for the show that you do. We appreciate the the information and entertainment. Go Raiders. Uh, Raiders 783. 783. Thanks for the call. Love the check engine light reference. Right. How many of us have had that in our cars on for a long time, right? We tell our friends or people that ask us, “Oh, it’s just a sensor. No biggie. I just got to get the sensor fixed. It’s a little bit off.” No, no, it’s not. It’s not the sensor. It’s your engine. It’s jacked up. Right. Or we say, “Oh, my gas tank. I just need to tighten it up a little bit. That’s all. Just as soon as I pull over, I’ll tighten up my gas tank. That thing will turn off.” Oh, that was just me. Okay. Come on. I’m calling. Hey, man. I’m ringing the bell on that. Right. And anytime I’m in the barber shop and someone says something that’s that’s false or out of line, I ring the bell. We we say, “Hey, ring the bell on them.” I’m ringing the bell on you. If you’re saying that you haven’t used that excuse about the tightening up the gas tank, come on. We’ve all done that. But no, you’re right. Getting back to the point last year it was, you know, on for sure when it comes to the the check engine light. Now the engine’s all jacked up. Uh it’s non-negotiable. You got to have it. You got to have it fixed. And you know, Pete Carol’s going to have to make some tough decisions, I think, to stick around 2026. Like I said in segment number two, I think that the Raiders really do want to give him an opportunity to stick around and be the head coach next year, but there’s obviously going to have to be some massive, massive changes. Thanks so much for the call. Definitely appreciate you. Up next, got a text from Mr. Crisp. Good morning, sir. Lately, I’ve been watching the offensive line a lot when watching the games. My question to you is, what the hell are they practicing every week if they’re going to perform like that? Every player that’s at least one O lineman olaying a defensive player and letting them into the backfield untouched. Also, everyone’s talking about a high draft pick for a quarterback. If you watch football for more than five minutes, you’ll know that bringing a rookie quarterback into the wrong system will do nothing but ruin them. I’ve been a fan all my life, 53 years old, and this is some of the worst football I’ve ever seen. It’s Mr. Crisp on the text right there. And yeah, I mean, look, that’s the thing I’ve been saying about the the the young quarterback. Don’t just get a guy just to get a guy and then put him into a system that doesn’t, you know, show what he does really well. Like, nobody wants to give Josh McDaniels much credit. I get it, right? He failed as a head coach or the Raiders failed as a head coach period. But he’s a really good offensive coordinator and he took a look at Drake May was like, “Yeah, I know exactly what he does really well. Let’s go ahead and and and showcase what he could be.” Now he’s in the MVP conversation, right? Good coaches can do that. And again, Josh Daniels, terrible head coach, really good offensive coordinator. So, he’s able to do that. He was able to do that with M. Jones as well, his rookie year, right? I mean, some guys just have that gift. You know who used to be really good at that? Bruce Arens. Remember Bruce Arens used to seem to get the most out of all of his players, but the quarterbacks always were really on the same page with him. He always seemed to get the most out of quarterbacks, whether it was Carson Palmer, whether it was Curt Warner, uh, you know, it didn’t matter where he was in Tampa Bay. Obviously, he had a lot of success. I mean, it’s just like anyone that he talked and touched and coached, seemed like they always had a lot of success. But there’s a lot of coaches uh like that. and and Bruce Arens was, you know, obviously a head coach there in Tampa Bay, won the Super Bowl, been a Tampa Bay or being a head coach in Arizona, but he was the OC for a long time, been around the league for a very long time. Even going back to Temple when he was in Temple College, right, and and and coordinating there and coaching there, and I mean, he he had so much success with so many quarterbacks. And there’s certain, like I said, there’s certain coaches that just have that effect. And there’s plenty around the league right now that just see the quarterback and say, “Okay, I know what he does really well, right? I’ve seen what he does on Saturdays really well. Let’s make that work. Like Cliff Kingsbury did that with Jaden Daniels. Ben Johnson’s doing that right now with Caleb Williams, right? I mean, the list goes on and on and on of the quarterbacks that are are being showcased the right way and not asked to be, you know, put in a system of the coordinator, but instead the coordinator putting a system around that QB. Thanks so much for the text. I do appreciate you. Uh, got a call from Raider T in Long Beach by way of LA. is calling to talk about an upcoming trip to Allegiant and where he gets his Raiders fandom from. Here’s Raider T in Long Beach. Q, this is Raider T calling from Long Island by way of LA. Um, sucks having to call in all the time after a disappointing loss. Uh, looks like uh looks like the offense is a little better. We’ll see what happens. Um, we got to fix that O line. That’s first and foremost in the offseason. Um, but I am coming out finally to see uh the Death Star. I’ve uh got took to a game in LA by my dad. That’s how I became a Raiders fan back in the uh the old coliseum days. And uh I think I was eight and I’m bringing my son out to Vegas who is eight. So uh it’s going to be really cool to finally see the new stadium. We’re going for my 50th birthday. I made the plans a long time ago thinking our season was going to be better. Unfortunately, uh it is what it is. But uh lived up in the Bay for a while, so I’ve been to the Oakland Coliseum also many times. So haven’t been to Vegas. Headed to Vegas to kick some donkey ass. Let’s go Raiders. T, thanks so much for the call. Appreciate you. Look forward to seeing you on Sunday at the torch. Hopefully you and your son make it there before kickoff. would love to shake your hand and tell you thanks for listening. And it’s a cool place to hang out anyway at the torch, right? And and I’ll be there uh with my pregame pregame show. That’ll start at 10:00 a.m. It’ll go to 11:00. Then I’ll pass the sticks on to JT the Brick and the Hall of Famer Eric Allen. They’ll give you the official pregame show. They’ll have some great guests there at the torch as well. Uh and and uh yeah, I’ll lead you right up to kickoff. Jason Horowitz and Kirk Morrison will be on the call and of course you’ll be there in the building. So hopefully I get to see you for sure. So thanks so much for that. I do appreciate you. Uh, got a tweet from I want to get this in. I got a tweet from Rambling Man and we’ll finish with this Q. My guy, I love your show. Love the vibes. I listen to Spotify Pod every day. Thank you for the show. It’s dope. And to the wizard of the production. Anywh who never called in or anything, so I figured I’d just let loose for my first time. Message to Raider Nation. Coaches, current and future department heads, managers, and ownership. Stop saying the Raiders don’t have an identity. That’s a damn lie. We do have one. We’ve just forgotten how to wear it. We’re the vertical shot downfield. We’re the defense that hits you so hard you start seeing ghosts. We’re speed, violence, and swagger. Always have been. That’s Al Davis football. That’s the code. We draft freaks. Big, fast, angry, maybe a little reckless because that’s what wins in silver and black. The ‘ 80s, 90s, and early 2000s. Those weren’t different eras. They were proof of concept. Plunking the branch, bow breaking bodies, ganning and rights, carving defenses apart. That was us. Now we got people acting like we need to find ourselves. No, we know exactly who we are. We just stopped living it. If Pete Carol and John Spy don’t want to build that kind of team, the one that plays mean, fast, and fearless, they can pack it up because anything else ain’t Raider football. We don’t need balance. We don’t need bite. We need to stop playing safe, stop apologizing, and start hitting first again. The Raiders have always had an identity. It’s just waiting for someone with the guts to unleash it again. Just win, baby, the real way. Robert Christopher Baker rambling man locationwise, but been Raider since birth. really lengthy tweet, really good feedback, and I don’t disagree that that’s the Raiders identity, but that’s not the Raiders identity now. And it’s honestly, it hasn’t been for quite a while. And regardless if you think that they forgot how to, you know, play that way or just forgot how to exercise their identity, one, defensively, they can’t play like they used to, right? You’ll get personal foul to personal foul to personal foul and get kicked out the league, right? Some of the the hits that you saw the Raiders defense of old do, uh, that would put you in jail these days, man. I mean, they just don’t let you play like that, right? You you can’t can you imagine Max Crosby if he was going around there? All he did is push Justin Herbert on Sunday and got a 15 yard penalty, right? I mean, it’s just it’s just you just can’t do that. You can’t have those big hits across the middle like that. And you know, the days of taking what the uh you know, taking what you want as opposed to what the defense will allow. Yeah, you can do that at times, but one, if you don’t have an offensive line, you sure can’t push the ball downfield. You have no time to to to use the vertical game, right? You have to have an element of the run game, right? You have to do that and you should be balanced. And you know, when John Gruden took over, it wasn’t like he was just stretching the field all the time. He was playing the West Coast offense. So, it wasn’t necessarily the days of old where it was just, you know, go deep, you know, and real men go deep. Ain’t that what the t-shirts used to say? And, you know, and and it was just uh, you know, the the mad bomber and and all that high-flying action and and a track team out there at the wide receiver position. Like, it’s just not that style anymore. It hasn’t been for quite a while. Uh I’m sure that the Raiders would like to get some elements of that back into their game, but the game has evolved. And that’s the thing, the coaches, the GMs, everyone, they have to evolve with it. Elements of that, sure, but you’ve got to be able to evolve as well. Thanks so much for the tweet. I definitely appreciate you. And there’s many different ways to get on the show. You could tweet at us, you can call us, you could text us 707-654-4693. And of course, Aries on Twitter and at your boy Q254. We got the crossover edition coming up on tomorrow. So we’ll take a look at the Denver Broncos. Sarah Beninger, one of the hosts of Locked on Broncos will join the show. Him and Cody Ror do a great job, but it’ll be Sarah that’ll be on the show with me. And so we’ll break that down. We’ll talk storylines, we’ll talk matchups, and of course, we’ll talk about past the victory, how each team could come away with the win. So we’ll do that on tomorrow’s show. We’ll close out the week really strong on Friday. But uh the crossover edition comes up tomorrow. So until then, Raider Nation, take care of yourself, take care of your family, love on your family. Most importantly, as always, just win, baby.

We’ll cover the team’s transition from facing the Chargers to preparing for the Broncos and update you on some official minor roster changes. You’ll also hear insights from Charles Davis of CBS Sports and the NFL Network regarding the offensive approach that Head Coach Pete Carroll aims to implement. We’ll wrap up the show with your calls and texts.

  1. What on earth has Pete shown us to suggest that he should be back for another year? The only people I've seen supporting the narrative that he has possibly earned this are thirsty ass access chasers. I'm ringing the bell on all of you cowards who they let into the building.

  2. Pete's not the problem. His supporting staff, simply are not. A great staff can effectively help mediocre players (which we have) perform well. Reid's, Belichick's…

  3. Pete has hia fingerprints all over the D. Resulting in no cover LBs and IPM the worst safety in the NFL – burned toast kelly at Cb. We run a soft outdated cover 3 that gets dominated by a good QB. Yet you want pete to have his vision on the O also???? Seattle told us that Pete is over the hill but maybe you did not get the memo??*

  4. Maxx, for some strange reason, wants to stay in Vegas & we appreciate that. However, keeping Pete will run others off. You keep Pete & we get more of what we are getting now, expect Jeanty & Bowers try to get the hell out of Vegas as soon as possible. Get you a young HC, re-do the OLine, start it from scratch, keep Kolton, maybe JPJ, keep Rogers & Grant, possibly keep Glaze, moving to OG or your OLine depth, but upgrade OLine thru FA & draft & trade, if need be. Tired of young players defecting & becoming good players elsewhere!

  5. He already has his guy with Greg Olsen most fans won’t like the team winning out but if somehow they do win some games bring him back and get some help for the offense line and still Draft a QB I could see Greg being the next head coach once Pete’s contract expires lol

  6. We are in a very bad situation with our team moving forward. There’s no guarantee that a new coaching staff would change what’s been going on for as long as I’ve been a fan and it’s been 35 years. Besides the first John Gruden experience we’ve been a shit show. Bad coaching and terrible drafting has been our biggest problem and until we get the right people in place and stop retreads nothing will change. RN4L

  7. Hey Q are you really number #1. The Raiders Report claims the same thing- Much respect to you for reaching out to Mitch at Chad Sports about his rant on Raiders Beat Writers- I agreed with everything Mitch said but I feel like maybe you can be the exception. Hondo carpenter on the other hand is a Pete Carroll puppet and organization puppet and I don’t believe a word that delusional Scalliwag says

  8. The problem Q, is Chip wasn't hired by Pete Carroll, he was just tasked with firing Chip. That would explain their disconnect, which is the ultimate no no, allow the HC to go get his guys and see if this thing can work. I'm not giving up on Pete Carroll unless he is going to stick with Geno (Loyalty by default)
