Travis Kelce said the Chiefs are “a few plays away” from having the No. 1 seed in the AFC. “We’re this f***ing close.”

  1. Yeah that is spot on. I like that he puts some of the blame on himself too. If somehow the Chiefs win out and some other teams lose and we do make the playoffs, the Chiefs really do have a shot at the Super Bowl. Just need to finish plays in the game better.

  2. He’s not wrong but also the eye test shows there’s something quite off about the team this year

You can see it in body language

Nobody is playing with any joy.  Other than the blowout games I haven’t seen anyone looking happy almost all season

  3. That’s how the NFL works. Doesn’t mean there aren’t fundamental issues with the team.

  4. By that rationale the Chiefs could have just as easily been 5-12 last year. You are what your record is

  5. He’s not wrong. People mocking him for coping or whining are very stupid. A couple mistakes and a few bad bounces are the only difference between this team being near the top and this team being peripheral (at best) in terms of playoff chances. Most of the various metrics say this team is about as good in most areas (maybe even better in a couple?) than the previous Super Bowl teams. Shit happens.

Makes me appreciate all the good stuff even more. Championships are fragile things. One drop, injury, oblong ball doing its thing, or someone randomly stepping on a banana peel could have derailed any of them.

  6. This is true this season and last season, except we were on the good side of luck last season.

  7. He said fans might be sick of hearing “we’re so close” and he’s right. I’m sick of hearing it. Show it on the field because it certainly hasn’t looked like it. The games are close but our side of the ball is lacking and making too many mistakes. It looks like much more than a few plays away.

  8. It honestly doesn’t look like a lack of talent as much as they seem *tired* or worn out.  But they have been since the first game, so I don’t get it.

  9. They have to think that way to keep faith in winning out, but that doesn’t mean anybody outside the locker room has to believe it.

Nor does it really matter if anybody outside the locker room believes it tbh

  10. And my aunt is literally a few balls short of being my uncle.

At some point you gotta stop with the what if stuff and actually close out games.

  11. He’s not wrong but penalties, whether justified or not, have been the #1 factor for losing games lately

  12. I’m sure it’s a few plays away from being much better or much worse for every team. That’s the NFL.

  13. Agreed…

    … BUT…

Why are we constantly in these situations, where 1 or 2 plays decides a game? Why all the penalties?

The 2 main roots of our problems – as far as I can tell – are a lack of discipline, and ass-bad play calling.

  14. If we lose to the Texans (likely). They should just pad the rest of the games and not care about wins. Let Kelce take a few guys spots on tds and yards before he rides off into the sunset

  15. Thats what not very good teams say. Previous years teams also had a few number of missed plays; they were able to overcome it cause they made more good plays. This team simply doesnt make enough plays. Previous Chiefs teams also had lot of penalties and drops; they just made more plays to overcome it. This team simply does not.

  16. That is true. Also last year we were a few plays away from missing the playoffs.

I think the common theme is this team is good but mistakes and penalties prevent close wins.
