Todd Bowles: ‘Control Your Own Destiny’ | Press Conference | Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Good afternoon. T Monday, you were uh discussing lack of tackling in the second half. Is that part in due or was that due in part to possibly fatigue? It was lack of tackling. We got to wrap up. I mean, it’s not fatigue. We just got to wrap up and finish the plays. It happens, but it can’t happen like that. It was a locker today, but he got J and and Mike back. How good was to see them out there? And how how much did they do out there? That was a walk through, so they didn’t do too much. We’ll be interested to see him tomorrow when we’re running since for how Mike’s doing. We haven’t seen him. We don’t know. Obviously, he’s got himself ready for this, but how close is he physically? Physically, he’s fine. He’s been running and everything. I can’t tell you he’s hit anybody. So, we got to see him in a football atmosphere, running routes, pattern-wise, getting that getting acclimated to that. So, it’ll be good to see tomorrow. You got any sense of mixed feelings, uh, Todd, towards Canales and, uh, the job he’s doing in Charlotte? Uh, good buddy of yours, but also a rival team in your division? Very good friend. I’m I’m very happy for him. You know, I’m very happy for him. He’s done a great job since he’s been there. He’s turned the team around. He’s come a long way. I don’t want them to beat us once we play him, but obviously I’m happy for him. You look at that first Saints game. um one of the better game defense has played pulled them to three points, made some turnovers. What do you think the key is? Uh the personnel has changed a little bit on both teams, but what do you think the key is to to finding a similar result on Sunday? Anytime we play them, it’s always who wins the turnover battle. You know, every time, you know, the records are out the window. They play hard, we play hard, we both know each other pretty well. Whoever wins the turnover battle wins the game. Each guy you get back, obviously you get back to being yourselves, but with Mike, since the passing game’s always kind of run through him, how does that open up things offensively for the rest of your offense? Well, it forced us to do other things and see how other things work. So, if we can do that and acclimate Mike back into the things he does, it only helps us going forward. To see Jaylen just recover from such a scary injury these last couple months, what’s that been like just watching him go through the recovery process? I mean, it was great to see him get cleared. You can see the smile back on his face and him moving around a lot better and him looking great. You can tell he got his weight back up. He’s been running quite a bit, so just to see him back out there, I’m happy for him. You have some history with Brian Hartline, just named the USF coach. What do you think about that move and how excited for him? He’s a great coach. He’s a hell of a coach. He was a coach when he was a receiver. Didn’t even know it. And, you know, he’s very smart, very intelligent. I’m sure he’s going to keep that program going. How do you feel about the position uh the team’s in, Todd, in terms of uh controlling your own destiny, getting guys back healthy uh going into the final month of the year? I mean, could you ask for much more than that? You want to control your own destiny. You don’t want to sit and look at scores every Sunday. If you can control your own destiny and get guys back in the process and acclimate them the right way and they can help contribute, that’s all you can ask for. You mentioned might be someone who else could come back from IR. Is is there a timetable where you think um he might be able to open that 21 day window practice window for him? Not until they tell me now. The Bucks face off against Spencer Rattler to start that last Saints game and Tyler Sh came out at the very end there. After seeing some film on him and how he’s played this fast, what are some of the things that you notice about him? Uh he’s faster than I thought. Plays with a lot of confidence, has a very quick release, very accurate. He’s a hell of a competitor. How do you get, you’ve been in the position that the Saints are in before, how do you get your team up to play when they pretty much have nothing to play for? And maybe as because you guys have everything to play for and that motivates them, but how do you get your team ready to keep going and later in the season as as you realize, hey, we’re eliminated, we’re out of it. Everybody in this league plays for pride. There’s nobody that’s just going to give you any ball games. Everybody has their name on their back and the name on the front and you play for that. They play for it. We play for it. Everyone of the league plays for it. Anything else? Thanks,

  1. First in the division, the pathway to a 6th consecutive playoff appearances and a 5th consecutive division title is alive and well, and the team is getting healthy. I've been a loyal fan since the 1979 season when I first started watching football, and the fairweather negative nancy bandwagon haters and comlainers really need to grow up, adopt a positive mindset, and stand behind the team through thick and thin. That's all that I have to say about that. Go Bucs!

  2. The same BS 4th year in a row. Gotta fight get to get in the playoffs in the weakest division in football. Terrible HC. Vabrel proved a good HC can turn a less talented, injury filled team into a contender. Bucs are more talented than the pats. And they are struggling at 7-5 and have a possibly of not making the playoffs
