Things Just Got VERY INTERESTING For The Boston Celtics…

[Music] Things just got very interesting for your Boston Celtics after beating the New York Knicks 123 to 117. A game where they amassed an 18-point lead heading into the fourth quarter. Almost squandered it, but did end up beating one of the Eastern Conferences elite. It’s got me feeling like I have a new perspective on the Boston Celtics this season. With the East being as wide open as it is, I think the Selies legitimately have a chance to win the Eastern Conference if a couple things go their way and they make a couple moves during the rest of the season. My question to you is this, because we’ll allude to it later. Can the Celtics win the Eastern Conference if Jason Tatum returns? Because I don’t think at current strength they could do it in a sevengame series against one of the better teams in the East. But if their best player Jason Tatum comes back from injury and is able to be the player that he was, can the Celtics win the Eastern Conference? Type down below Y for yes or N for no in the comments section because Boston has had some unlikely X factors so far this year that I think is really moving the needle. What did we need from Brad Stevens this off seasonason? We needed him to find costcontrolled value contracts that complement Jason Tatum and Jaylen Brown who are making over $100 million over the next four to five years. So they went out and made some signings on the margins. They got brought in Luca Garza. They brought in Josh May not who we will talk about on today’s show. But they also built through the draft as well. Ugo Gonzalez is making a couple of contributions. He played pretty well. Made Cat uh kind of just not be in his best state of mind last night. He was really ruffling Cat’s feathers in that game. But also some players who have been in the development system for a few years now, and that’s one Jordan Walsh. He closed the game again and played incredible basketball. Just has more effort than a lot of guys out there on the court and it showed, man. Jaylen Brown did say, “I’m starting to see Jordan play like a grown man.” He started this game against the Knicks and he closed this game against the Knicks. That’s something that’s becoming pretty commonplace in this Celtic starting lineup here for Jordan Walsh. You see Bill Chisum getting fired up a couple of games ago for Jordan Walsh in that Cavs game. I mean, it seems like there’s a lot of confidence in Jordan Walsh right now. There’s a lot of faith being put into him by this Celtics front office and coaching staff. I mean, the two put backs that he had against Knicks in this game and then talk about attacking the basket off the pump fake on the left wing going right into the chest of Miles McBride and finishing at the rim. I mean, he was three for three in that fourth quarter, six points, four rebounds. It was awesome to see. He closed the game against uh against the Knicks here and Joe Mazula took note of his performance saying that to me the last six minutes of the game he was just a great playmaker. He had the offensive rebounds. He made plays in the scene. He was great at the point of attack defensively. Now, think about this. Jordan Walsh is a player who was stacking DNPs a month ago. Like, he couldn’t even get on the floor for Boston. Now, he’s starting and closing games, playing 20 minutes a night, the most he has in his NBA career to this point. And he is making an impact. He is the reason that the Celtics are winning a lot of these games. Jordan Walsh is tasked with guarding the opposing team’s best player. Think about what he did over the weekend. Guarded Donovan Mitchell, two for eight on 43 possessions and two turnovers. He was stifling Nick’s offensive threats last night as well. And I want to continue to see that as the season goes along. Continue to give him these massive roles because he is welcoming the challenge. Here’s what he had to say about this uh this this stint that he’s really having over the last few weeks. Jordan Walsh said pregame on Tuesday. I was talking with my agent. We sat down last month and we were like, “It’s going to happen.” I was like, “Yeah, it is going to happen. If you work hard, you get rewarded. Coming out and being able to finish this game was obviously a big step for me, and I’m super glad that I could affect the game. I mean, he has the frame to do it. He has the physical tools to go out there and be a legitimate NBA player in this league. And I’m telling you straight up, he’s got a team option coming up next year. That’s going to be the easiest accept of all time. But I’m I’m sticking my claim now. The Celtics need to extend Jordan Walsh because you’re going to get him at a value at around under something under $10 million a year. And in two years when he is even more developed along the lines because guess what? He’s 21 years old. You’re going to have one of the best contracts in all of basketball. So, I’m super hyped up about Jordan Walsh performance. I want to continue to see that because he’s really moving the needle. He’s one of these players on the margins that Brad Stevens needed for the Selies to maintain their championship contending status. We also got to talk about why not why not Josh Why not absolutely bold in this game. And now we’re going to kind of talk about the tandem of Josh and Jordan Walsh because what the Knicks started to do late in this game, as we all know, Jaylen Brown had an absolute night in this one. 42 points in this game on efficient shooting. This mid-range assassin continues to dazzle. But what happened in the fourth quarter? They started sending double teams at Jaylen Brown. So what did the Celtics have to do? They had to play four on throw three basketball with Josh Minat and Jordan Walsh. Now historically, you wouldn’t trust those two guys to really make the right reads, but they did. Josh Minat had a wideopen three-point attempt that he needed to take and he did and he made it. And I want to talk a little bit about his shooting splits because this is a guy who has not been historically a great three-point shooter, but he is hitting the right notes now. 11 of 17 on his last 17 three-point attempts at 64%. He’s shooting 43% from total from three on three attempts tonight. That is doubling his previous volume. So, not only is he increasing volume, he’s increasing efficiency as well. And it’s not just coming from the corner. He’s not a stand of the corner merchant. This guy’s hitting 44% above the break for God’s sakes. within 45% from the corner as well. Doesn’t matter where he’s at on the floor. Hot zones all around the perimeter for Josh May not. And that’s another thing that Boston needed. Yeah, they needed guys to go impact the game, but they also needed guys that can contribute to the floor spacing identity that Joe Misulo wants to impose. Here’s what Missoula had to say on my not. He said it was an evolution for both Jordan and Josh. They went to doubling Jaylen and they did a good job catching the ball in the seams and making two-on-one reads. So, it starts with Jaylen’s ability to trust in his teammates. And then it goes to Jordan and Josh’s understanding being guarded by different matchups throughout the game. Love what I saw from these two guys, man. Like the uh just basketball IQ development that we’ve seen out of these two players because look, Jordan Walsh was getting DMPS for a reason. Like he was not buying into his role or what should have been his role at the time. He wanted to be the guy like he was in Arkansas, but that was never going to be the way that he made money in this league. He’s growing now. He’s understanding. He’s maturing to the position that he wants to be in if he’s going to be successful in the NBA. JB said it, we’re seeing huge amounts of growth from these two guys. So, what do we need or see also said we need huge amount we are seeing huge amounts of growth from this team in general. So, that has me thinking the Celtics have a legitimate chance to make some noise the Eastern Conference. What do they have to do in order to like be back to contending status? Well, they need a Tatum return. That’s for one. But I think if you trade for more size, get that Tatum return. I mean, is there really that much competition in the East that would be keeping the Celtics out of a Finals run? I don’t think so. We got to talk about it because the East is wide open. The Pistons there at 17 and four, the number one seed. Maybe they could end up holding that spot for throughout the entire regular season. But is anybody really going to be threatened by a Pistons team that we even know who the second option is offensively there? You have the Raptors who are just fools gold to me at this point? It’s just a bunch of guys who have put empty stats their whole career and now they’re starting to win games. seems kind of fishy. The Heat, are they going to be able to maintain a top three seed this year? Do they really have the talent level to do so? The Knicks, I would assume, move up in these standings at some point this season. They’re kind of struggling at this point. The Magic, I thought they would be a little bit higher as well as I did the Hawks and the Cavs especially. So, there’s a real like weird log jam going on in the Eastern Conference where you see the Celtics at eighth. They’re only two games out of the three seed with the Miami Heat. So, seems like everything is wide open for your seeds to make a run to the finals. First, though, if that was t if that were to happen, you would need a Jason Tatum return to the team. I get it. The Celix just beat a really good Cavs team. They beat a really good Knicks team, but at the end of the day, in a sevengame series, are we really taking Boston over one of those two crews? when you have film, when you have coaching and adjustments to go off of over a two-eek span, I don’t think that that Boston would be either one of those two teams in a seven game series. So, you would actually need a Jason Tatum return in order to get them over the hump for that. That’s easier said than done, but it’s out there. He’s he’s making progress. He’s working he’s working out. He’s ramping up those workouts. We just saw him hit a sideep three. Looked pretty smooth to me. So, if you get a Jason Tatum return at some point this season, maybe around the All-Star break or around March, and you’re in a spot to make a playoff run, well, why don’t they go out there and then make a run, trade for a big, that’s the next thing you got to do after you have an inclination that Jason Tatum is going to go out there and return this season because look, I if if they if they didn’t necessarily think they were going to make a run, well, they wouldn’t necessarily need to go out there and trade for a big. They’re going to go out there and try to trade Anthony Simons for salary dumping, but they at least want to get some value back and at a position of need in a deal. So, I have a dream trade idea for the Boston Celtics out there. And maybe Celtics fans aren’t too happy with the fact that I’m throwing a first round pick in for Dron Sharp, but it might be necessary. Now, a couple of things about this trade before we really just dive into who Dron Sharp is and why they should go out there and trade for him. because there were reports coming out that Boston tried to go out and sign Dron Sharp this off season. Well, it didn’t end up happening. He ended up going and resigning back with the Brooklyn Nets on a 2-year deal. But I would bring him into Boston here for Anthony Simons. You would shed $20 million plus of money if you were to make this deal. Anthony Simons is making over $27 million in the last year of his contract. Brooklyn is a exactly the right team to absorb that money. They have the room to do it and he would come off the books at the end of the year. So, you would get the 6.2 25 million DRon Sharp and then he would get a team option of $6.25 million. And yeah, guess what? That would be the easiest accept of all time right after Jordan Walsh’s team option next season because Don Sharp, yeah, the counting stats haven’t been anything to write home about. But I’ll tell you right now, this guy is one of the highest rebound percentages in the league. One of the higher block percentages in the league. So if you stretch these number out numbers out over a per 36 minute basis over a per 100 possessions basis you’re looking at a 15 and 15 type of guy with the 100 possessions numbers were just out of pocket. I mean he was averaging 19 and 17 per 100 possessions so far this year. Dron Sharp is literally the definition of a guy who just needs a bigger role. It’s a log jam in the front court in Brooklyn right now. They have Nick Claxton making 25 million. They just brought in Danny Wolf and as a first round pick in the NBA draft at center. So, how much room is there really for Dron Sharp to flourish with the Brooklyn Nets? I’ll tell you right now, there’s way more room for him to play big-time minutes and make a big time impact with the Boston Celtics. He’s an elite rim protector, elite shot blocker, elite shot blocker, and an elite rebounder as well. All things that the Boston Celtics need. Would you make this trade?
