Former MLB pitcher Seung-hwan Oh (who only played 4 yrs in MLB) says MLB pension will pay wife for life, estimates 4,760 to 5,440 USD monthly. MLB pensions are paid for life from age 60, and Oh Seung-hwan said, “As far as I know, even if I die my wife would receive it,” which surprised everyone.

What having a powerful union does for its members.
I wanted to add the complete quote by Young-ja Lee there in the post title regarding the MLB pensions being paid for life from age 60 part but it hit the max limit mark for words, here’s hoping the title is understandable at least.
Rockies legend
If you’re anti union you’re a dip shit.
60-65k a year to someone who did a job for 4 years is really solid. At this rate I will get about double that monthly in retirement (even if SS gets gutted) but will have taken me 30 years.

My partner is a pension and benefits lawyer and I have heard *so* much about MLB pensions. Heck, with Quadros (Qualified Domestic Relations Orders) a lot of the wives end up being set even after the divorce. Baseball wife supremacy. I guess it makes up for baseball players generally being a bunch of adulterers lol
Well good for him or players that make it into the big league I guess. I wonder what benefits, if at all, there are for the minor leaguers.
Was googling his information and to find out that he actually dated K-pop idol, Yuri, from Girls’ Generation in the past!?
Startled, Lee Young-ja joked, “My wife couldn’t get a divorce,”
I worked for an mlb team part time for 8 seasons about 25 years ago. I think in 15 years or so, I start getting $58 a month for the rest of my life from MLB!!!
This is what a strong union is able to do. Remember this when the owners lock the players out after next season and try to turn the fans against the players.
The Final Boss. Wanted him in Boston, was cool to see him in St. Louis
That’s great, good for him and his wife.
Instead of being jealous, fight for the same in your industry.
This is why a good union is good. Owners will probably try to take that next if they ever get a salary cap
With my union pension plan, I have to pick the split and gamble on who will live longer. If i know my wife will outlive me, I’ll give her 100% so she can keep collecting after I’m dead. If I outlive her, I get zero if she dies before me.
Husband worked in Germany for a large company that had a large union. They worked together and were far less oppositional. The union wanted the company to succeed so they had more jobs. Company wanted the well-trained union members to succeed because they had a better product to sell.
Yeah I mean union pensions are pretty freaking awesome. That’s honestly why I stay at my job.
I don’t think that part about the wife is true
I seen this earlier today, but didn’t have anything to add at the time, aside from thinking, wow! They have a pretty awesome benefits package if that is true! Good job MLBPA!
That said, I just came across a rather shocking [Instagram ](https://www.instagram.com/reel/DRLC21ckiJM/)video talking about the death of former Seahawk Kenny Easley and damn. Maybe things were different when he played compared to now, but then the top comment is shocking.
>As a Wife and caregiver of a retired nfl player who at 38 was diagnosed with Parkinson’s and also has kidney disease following his career in the NFL,)I can attest to him being given “Vitamin T” which I later learned by team doctors to essentially allow him play through pain which ultimately damaged his kidneys and now he has stage 4 kidney disease… Sadly, I know several players with kidney disease and some who hVw had transplants after their nfl… and of course it isn’t talked about because why would they tell you this. Most people don’t even know the NFL only covers 5 years of their health insurance, so many families are left trying to manage their loved one’s health which is difficult. This is not something people see… life after the NFL is hard😫 especially when these guys health is at the forefront, but it’s a terrible truth. An insurance broker literally told me when I inquired on if a medication was covered, “Do you know that medication is 650k per year? (One that my husband needs btw) so I can imagine why the NFL doesn’t provide lifetime medical insurance post career….These league Drs are supposed to protect players, but you tell me how they’re doing when several players are suffering ? I can assure you they were not given the disclaimer: “This is going to damage your kidneys ”… my husband has been retired for years, but I’ve talked to younger wives who have shared that their husband’s get these Toradol injections & I tell them the harmful effects because I’m living it. The NFL is a business. Their doctors are there to do a job, make sure the players play. Period. Mr. Easley was a great NFL player and Hall of Famer who advocated for justice!! I will forever commend that. 🙏🏽 My heart goes to his Wife and beautiful family, and I pray things are changed that truly protect players overall health.
Damn. MLBPA needs to share notes with NFLPA. After some research, I believe 4 years is the minimum to qualify for medical insurance for life under the MLBPA agreement.
