Derik Queen on battling against Rudy Gobert, offensive identity | New Orleans Pelicans

After a game like last night, another close one, what were some of the points of emphasis today for you guys in practice, knowing that you’re seeing them again tomorrow? Um, just be more disciplined, close out the game better. No turnovers, no second chance for them, and uh just execute. Derek, do you wish you had that last two, however many seconds were left on the clock, get that shot again? Uh, yeah, definitely. What was it like going up against Rudy Goar? He’s one of the most physically dominating um defensive centers out in the league. Yeah, I mean it’s kind of tough. Uh he’s a great shot blocker. Uh he can stay in front of you cuz he’s 73. Uh he can recover guard multiple positions. So it’s it’s tough. You feel like the team’s uh starting to find an offensive identity even though guys have been in and out. You guys feel like there’s a little more consistency happening on that end? Yeah, just uh just moving the ball side to side, share the ball, and just uh make sure we get a a shot every time down. It seems like there’s been a point of emphasis of even after made baskets, get the ball in quickly, get down the floor, just um specifically for you when you’re when you’re inbounding, are you looking more to just kind of like find a deeper outlet there or just kind of get it out to the guard? Just trying to get it out quicker. What are you kind of learning from DeAndre? I mean, we see how low he’s working and talking, but what’s like something he’s taught you that you really sticking to? How to create space, uh, where to catch the ball at angles and stuff. Derek, what do you think it’ll take for this team to win some clutch games? Cuz it seems the offense has struggled this year during the last five minutes of close games. Uh, just discipline, uh, get a shot every every time down. Um, executing the defensive end and getting a shot every time down again. It seemed like there was a meeting of the big men here with DJ Lon, obviously you and uh and Eve and Coach Greg Monroe. Just um what have what have uh like coach Greg Monroe and like some of the your vets there um been able to guide you through these last few days? Uh just where to catch the ball at, how to create space, rebounding, just big man
