It Just Got VERY REAL…

We have not one but two separate trade reports which involve an NBA superstar who may be on the move. And no, I’m not talking about Giannis to the Minnesota Timberwolves. Today, we’re going to break down those reports and discuss what this may all mean for the Minnesota Timberwolves moving forward. It’s an absolutely huge show today on the Timberwolves Digest. Thanks so much for tuning in. New to the show, please go ahead and subscribe. As always, North America, I’m Dave Dyba, and I bring you daily Minnesota Timberwolves news, trade reports, trade rumors, and of course, a little bit of commentary on the side. On today’s show, we’re going to do something a little bit different. And I’m just floating a quick question for you all to think about and drop your comments in. I really want to know whether or not you think trading for Jean Morant is even a good idea. Go ahead and drop your comments in. Now, on today’s show, we’re going to play a little bit of a game that I like to call Point Counterpoint. And this, of course, was made famous by Dan Akroyd and um Jane Curtain on Saturday Night Live. And while neither of them will be lending an assist for this, we’re going to get into a point as to why the Timberwolves should not actually bring Jaw Morant onto the team. And then I’m going to have a counterpoint for that about why it’s actually a good idea for Jaw to become a member of the Minnesota Timberwolves. So, we’re going to actually begin right now by actually taking a look at one of the reports that came out. Now, this was from Sam Ach of the Athletic. Uh Sam, of course, uh wrote about the Timberwolves and Tim Connelly actually reaching out to Memphis about a month ago when all of this Jaw Morant stuff actually started to surface. And at the time I said I’m sure it was just an attempt by Tim Connelly to actually figure out whether or not there was a Shaw Morant fire sale actually going on. Now as you can read and see I just simply want to point out that the Grizzlies are now 9 and actually 9 and 13 on the season and have improved significantly of course with Jarant on the bench if you will. It seems as if maybe the JA Morant has already left the building post era leaving the Memphis Grizzlies thing has already surfaced inside the Memphis Grizzlies organization at this point. So this was coming from Sam Aik. He uh he brought this out yesterday. Now we’re going to get into the point counterpoint. I’m actually going to begin with why this is actually a bad idea for the Timberwolves to actually bring Jean Morant onto the team. So, taking a look at this ESPN report, which actually came out earlier today, we can see ESPN’s Tim McMahon and Bobby Marx uh were part of the team that actually put this particular report together. Now, I’m going to read for you right now what one of the Eastern Conference executives, who of course didn’t give anybody his name, went uh on the record without actually going on the record with his actual name. The combination of pain in the ass, injuryrone, not that good anymore, and a big contract is a bad one. So, that right there is the perfect summary, which is probably some of the things you guys were also thinking about why from a point perspective, this is actually a bad idea for the Minnesota Timberwolves to actually bring Jean Morant onto the team. I think when we think about uh this this is all leads back to the contract is one thing because I think he’s affordable from the the aspect of the kind of player and superstar that he can be. So that’s one thing but I think the availability and the injurypprone part is the other big piece. And I can completely see, and we’re not even talking about any of the offthe-court antics at this point, but just the unavailable piece, not being available during enough games, I think certainly could be one of the big issues that a lot of teams will have, including the Timberwolves with potentially bringing him onto the team. Plus, on top of all of that, we have no idea whether or not Ja actually fishes. Okay. So, to the uh I mean if you do, please drop a comment in. Um to the po counterpoint now, Lou Williams and Boogie Cousins on Run It Back uh yesterday both came out and said that a deal that would actually essentially bring Jean Morant to the Minnesota Timberwolves is actually a good one. And if you think about the way Anthony Edwards plays and we think about the way Jarant plays when he’s available, certainly I think the idea of having John Morant play with Anthony Edwards and I’m not sure what other pieces would have to go to make a deal actually happen, but assuming enough of the pieces we need stay intact, a Ja Anthony Edwards uh team up, I think absolutely makes a lot of sense. Personally, I would absolutely love to see it, especially if we could all get some sort of guarantee that Jaw Morant was actually going to be healthy enough to play in 80 80% at least 80% of the regular season games. Now, I pulled up stats from uh Jaw’s career. just wanted everybody to just have a refresher and a reme uh remember exactly what Jaw has actually done at least to this point throughout his career. I think when we think about Ja Morant as a potential member of the Minnesota Timberwolves, the thing that stands out I’ve highlighted which of course is his ability to be a playmaker. In other words, he makes uh a lot of assists. He’s usually pretty good on the turnover ratio. And I think when we think about a player like Ja Morant controlling the game down the stretch in the fourth quarter and we all know how much trouble the Timberwolves have had over the last two weeks at the end of games. Bringing somebody like Jarant onto this team certainly makes a lot of sense. And plus it would be spectacular to watch. Let’s just face it. who you you’d be watching Ant-Man do something unbelievable one minute and then there would be the potential of Jaw doing something unbelievable in the next minute. I think it would certainly would turn into mustwatch uh NBA basketball. So those are the uh point counterpoints. I want to know what your thoughts and opinions are on these particular topics. Now the point part is of course he has all sorts of troubles off the court. The point is uh he’s no longer terribly reliable because he’s always injured. And the point is there’s certainly a significant size contract that you have to swallow. Which means in order for the Timberwolves and Tim Connley to actually pull something like this off, especially if it’s not a fire sale, they will have to give up significant uh pieces to make that happen. And then on the counter point, just the sheer talent of JA Morant playing alongside Anthony Edwards. The ability to actually control a game down the stretch is certainly something that Jaw is very good at. The ability to be a floor distributor and be considerably younger at this point than old man Mike Connelly also checks the box of something in favor of actually bringing Jaw Morant onto this Timberwolves team. But enough from me. Please go ahead and drop in your comments. Once again, if you’re new to the Timberwolves Digest, please go ahead and subscribe. Thanks so much for tuning into today’s episode. 1. I like Ja Morant's game (when he was playing well at least) and i think him and Ant would mesh well. I am a bit concerned about where he's at mentally right now as it could bring a toxic player to the team but I'm always up for a redemption story. I say go for it as long as we aren't giving up too much, we aren't making the finals anyway.

  2. I actually think it would be cool to get Ja for a bargain but we have to give up McDaniels and maybe a couple others. The off the court issues, he also can't stay healthy!! So I don't think this a good move to try to acquire him…

  3. We still would only make the WCF at best. Big contract, injury prone is concerning. I strongly believe we have enough talent for a chip but not with Finch as HC. Finch is to Ant as Doug Collins was to Jordan.

  4. I love Ja's game but him, Ant & Rudy needing to get to the rim won't work, especially when Ja struggles with the 3 ball… Trae, Harden, Melo, Fox or Garland before Ja

  5. Absurd trade! Genius would be getting Chris Paul at vet min $ rental for rest of this year with a team option for next year to replace Conley's spot on roster fully. That gives us depth at PG and more time to develop – or throw in towel on Dillingham. Paul would replace Conley as 2nd team PG. Conley becomes emergency /garbage time 4th PG behind Dillingham. Starters and Paul, Naz, Shannon and Clark are primary 9 dudes. Work in 10th and 11th guys Dillingham and Berringer together as much as possible as they are the future. DNPCD Conley, Ingles, Hyland and Miller.

  6. J. Morant is too much of a pain in the Azz. He is also often injuried.
Not that good anymore and big contract … I agree.

    Availability is the best Ability….
Once again "A Pain in The Azz"
