So I live in denver and was working a nuggets/pacers game at ball arena in 2022 – basically a professional scarecrow sitting in front of various places making sure things run smoothly. I was working outside the visitors weight room. It was the nuggets mascot Rocky's birthday game and I was just kinda sitting there doodling on a piece of notebook paper for lack of much else to do, a pen doodle of rocky with a basketball. Out comes a player flanked by some folks, and it piqued my attention bc it was the first time a player had come out that direction

He pointed at my doodle and said "that's dope" and hurried off to wherever he was going. Looked up just in time to see tyrese fucking haliburton pass me and I was so shell shocked that all I could say was "oh, thank you!"

No idea if it was related but the rocky team came over after like half an hour and asked for my doodle to show off on the jumbotron, and it was the coolest thing in the world.

What they were all unaware of is that I had recently been diagnosed with epilepsy, and I was having serious issues struggling with my loss of "use", and feeling like I lost my purpose or ability to contribute. Tyrese cured that instantly.

I've been a pacers fan ever since. Today is the anniversary of my brain surgery to help me get back on my feet, so I think this was an apt choice of subject. I don't really do realism that much so this was really fun!

  1. This is an awesome story all the way around, I’m so glad you and Tyrese were able to bump into each other! Also that is a great portrait of him!

  2. Great story and thanks for sharing. I spent 10 years working around the Indy Colts and can say the majority of professional athletes (at least Colts) were down to earth and very relatable.

  3. Dope potrait and you’re very lucky that you got the chance to meet Tyrese Haliburton!! He’s ma GOAT, absolute hero
