Alohi Gilman on His First Ravens-Steelers Game | Baltimore Ravens

impression. Obviously, when you got here, you was going through rehab. What was your first impression of meeting him? Um, I mean, obviously a great dude, great person. Um, you know, I’ve I watch film too over the years and I told AD when I first got here that I respected his game. I used to watch a lot of Ravens tape and the Chargers and saw 29 out there, you know, rolling around flying. Not the biggest dude, but willing to to go down there and uh put his face in the fan and great in coverage. So, I told him I got a lot of respect for him when I first got out here and he talked to me a little bit about his journey and uh just uh you know his his recovery. So, you know, hats out to him, man. I got so much respect for him. Uh you know, for him, what he’s been able to do to overcome and uh it just tells a lot about who he is as a player and a person. The position that he was in, it’s easy for someone like that to be pretty down in the dumps for a while. What did you how did you what did you sense of his energy since you gotten here? Just the way he’s carried himself. Yeah, he’s just about his business. uh just always uh willing to work. Um never complained, smiling, always saying what’s up. Uh so someone that’s coming from a new place to hear and seeing a guy like that, it’s like damn, like much respect, man. Hats off to him. So it was pretty cool. Well, you’ve been in rivalries before, but it’s your first Raven Steelers rivalry. What have you heard about it? What are you expecting? Uh I’ve heard a lot. I’ve heard a lot. I’ve been uh told that I’m not a Raven yet until I, you know, beat the Steelers. So, probably too much times at this point. Uh, so, you know, it’s getting ingrained in me. I’m excited for this opportunity. Um, records at this point don’t mean much. This is just about the AFC North Division game, rivalry game, going out there and playing ball and playing to our standard. And so, I’m just grateful to be a part of this opportunity, man. I’ I’ve played in some rivalry games in the league and in college, but nothing like this. So, uh, this is a first for me. And I’m excited. So, who’s all told you that that you’re not a regular? Uh, just coaches, players, anyone. Everyone. So, how often training room? How often per day? It’s averaging about nine per day. Um, one one more day of nine. I’m I’m about I’m about to fight at this point. So, you know, you know, we I’m tired of hearing it. We’re going to go do it. I’m just got to go do what I got to do. and uh and I’m happy to be a part of it. To that to that point, we had heard Marlin said Zach showed a lot of old Raven Steelers tape and meeting rooms today. Just what was that like for you to watch? Yeah, it was cool, man. Um just seeing the history obviously u great rivalry, great players on both sides, both franchises, the culture, the identity of both sides, you know, it’s old school, grimy. Um we’re fighting, we’re scrapping, and uh it’s it works good cuz that’s how I was raised. scrapping, grinding. Anyone in your face, get out my face. And we don’t like you, you don’t like us. So, let’s just go. Let’s go scrap it out. In the situation you guys are in, both teams know that a loss is really going to hurt. Uh, do you think that’ll make it even more like a playoff game because of the records that you guys have? Yeah, I mean, for sure. I think that that probably adds to it. I think in hindsight, you’d want to be obviously 10 10 and two, 9 and three, whatever you want to be. you want to be undefeated, but like just the opportunity that we get for going from 1 and five to six and six, you know, it’s like it kind of adds a little cherry on top, you know? It’s it’s the grind, it’s the fight, and it means more because we’re both fighting. Um, but I feel like we’ve, you know, we’ve fought from a deeper hole. So, it’s like we can’t go back and the only way is to go is forward and the first one is them. So, start with them and go from there. What’s it like to go against Aaron Rogers? Oh, A-Rod. I mean, um, sheesh, I think the times that I played against him, he was hurt, so never really got a chance to get down on the field against him. So, this is a first for me, actually. Um, got a lot of respect for him. Obviously, grew up watching him, seeing him, you know, the way he throws the ball, just um, the way he processes the field and that quarterback he is, is a Hall of Famer, man. So, I’m I’m excited for the challenge. Got a lot of respect for him. Um, but we’re going to go get after him and and we’re going to go battle it out. What’s your take on their tight end, Darnell Washington? I think you said he weighs 311 lbs. Just like when you see that coming down the field, kind of how do you deal with that? I don’t care. I mean, I’ve played against him before. Got a lot of respect for him. Great player, size. You guys can see me. I’m not 300 lb, but I don’t see numbers when I’m out there. I just see bodies. So, we’re going to go get after him. Everyone who’s out there.
