Miami Heat Lose To Mavericks | Can’t Overcome Cold Shooting Night Without Norman Powell
Hey, welcome on in guys. Tobin here with you and uh thanks for checking out the channel Miami Heat. They lose to the Mavericks 118 to 108. But doesn’t matter. Mark Cuban can still kiss my ass because he is a whiny baby who won’t get over the 2006 finals. I’ve gotten over 2011 and LeBron. Well, maybe I haven’t gotten over all of like LeBron’s performance in 2011, but I’ve gotten over it. This guy’s still whining on podcast about it. Grow up, Mark Cuban. And by the way, I’ve back channelneled this thinking that the Luca trade is somehow triggered by you just so you could get back into power, you weasel. Anyway, let’s get to the game. I digress. Heat lose by 10 today in uh what I I I don’t even know like officially, but I have to imagine that’s the worst shooting game of the season for Miami. The Heat shot under 40% today. Really, really rough shooting night for everybody who is s shorter than 69. Everybody elseesh. Um Miami uh yeah, Miami today had a a rough go of it. They worked, you know, once again felt like they worked this they worked this thing all the way back into a clutch game because for the most part they were kind of chasing their tail down like a dozen 15 10 since basically the middle of the second quarter and then they make a furious run. They they they couldn’t hit threes to save their life today. Barely could hit shots but they just they could not shoot threes at all. finished at 29%. But even like going into the fourth quarter, it was even worse than that. They they got a little bit of a rally in the fourth quarter. Um but yeah, it was it was it was an ugly night for Heat offense and a really strange night as well. We got to see some things we liked and and been wanting to see. We’ve gotten to and then we I was a little confused by some things. So, we’ll start off here. Norman Pal missed the game. No powell uh dealing with a ankle injury. So it was we got word at the end of or or on the injury report that he was dealing with this and they want to be smart about it as Spo said they got a big game coming up against the Maverick uh against the Magic, excuse me, on Friday. And Dallas is always can be a little bit of a tricky place for Miami to uh to to win. But um you know it was it was just it was a but this is a team like Dallas has had an obviously strange year with firing their GM and now he’s got a lot of pressure out of the building waiting for Anthony Davis to come back. He has they’ve gotten some nice wins now. They won in Denver even though Denver is banged up. They uh now have beaten Miami getting revenge there and they just they just have a propensity to play good defense, have a tough night scoring and they have a lot of stuff seemingly coming together for them. Particularly Cooper Flag is I mean the kid looks like you know pardon my French but the truth I mean he looks really really good. It’s really not fair that they got him um all because of this Luca trade. Like it’s really we deserve Giannis Adam Silver. That’s all I’m going to say, dude. I mean, I know I talked about this in the but like dude, you owe us Giannis onto Takumbo. This is How do they get Cooper flag for having one of the worst trades in history? Unless it was completely on the take just for you guys to get Luca on the Lakers cuz NBA ratings were a crazy story last year and yet this ended up being the biggest sports story basically of the year 2025. And I really think, you know, you you rig the lottery for them to get this 18-year-old 6-9 unicorn. He’s, you know, scoring. He’s almost chasing down Kobe for most or second most points by an 18-year-old. And I just say all this not to whine, but just to point out, you hit a gambling scandal from us, dude. And I want revenge for this. And if you’re not going to give me this pick, then you damn well better give us Giannis Santa Too on the Heat. You owe it to us, dude. That’s all I’m going to say. I’m going to get back to the game. I’m lashing out. Let me get back to the game. So anyway, no Norman P. I haven’t even started the game. No Norman Powell for the Heat. And um the Heat now I think two and three. This is fifth fifth miss game. Two and three without Norman Powell uh in the lineup. And the difference was, you know, one of the things you had uh Tyler Herro’s first game was, I believe, against the Mavericks where he went floater crazy and no one pal didn’t play in that game. And then uh and the Heat didn’t score too well today. It didn’t feel like a pacing. I actually felt like the thing that sucks about today is I felt like the Heat moved the ball really well. I felt es I mean the first three quarters felt like the ball was popping. I felt like they had a lot of great looks. They just couldn’t get the damn threes to drop, you know? And I hate to like simplify it that on a day like this and not like get all but that’s kind of what it felt like. It just felt like one of those days just nothing could go for the Miami Heat. And honestly, other than Bam and Kel Wear and Tyler Herro in the first half, like just nobody could get any anything to drop today. It was just it was Kel Wear though, man. I mean, geez Louise, this dude is he is something something, dude. Something special. Really love watching him. But anyway, so yeah, the strange thing was Tyler Herro, rocket star for him. Got a three, got a steal and a bucket off Cooper flag. Boy Wonder was off and running today to what would be a a tremendous first half uh for for Tyler Hero. Anthony Davis, you know, he shot an airball. John Croy described it on the broadcast today and it was he’s like that ball was like a dead whale falling and I was like huh because the way that it fell it look he it’s weird when Anthony Davis shoots the ball because it looks like it’s heavier in his hands when it drops than I guess because of the angle it comes but it really does land with a thud when he miss and I think he had like three air balls today you know he ended up what did he finish with today cuz he was I mean he dominated it felt like in the start of the second half of this game and then was big in the fourth. He he had 17 and 17 today and he was seven to 17. Yeah. like he didn’t have a he didn’t have a great and like he had some ugly misses in that some ugly ugly misses but um he was like it was like a dead whale falling and I was like why would a whale be in the air it doesn’t matter anyh who um so first quarter you know bam he got things going with a three Tyler Herro was cooking he was and he got some really tough The other the other thing with Tyler, Tyler had some really tough like tough ass buckets in the first driving through traffic and I was like, “Huh, all right. Good to see.” And then um we could tell like you could tell I’ve been interested in this because Kell had those monster games on the road. Thinking back to the Tyler thing, right? Tyler comes back. All right, this changes things up for the starting lineup. And I It’s not that Kell’s played poorly, though. So, we didn’t score I think in the last game. Didn’t really matter. Obviously, the game was a blowout, but um I was waiting for like that pop game with Hero back and and Kell having that. And obviously, we didn’t have the full deck of cards today. The Lions got a little bit weird. We got a lot of Fonteo. We even got some Yovic dude minutes. Well, I’ll get into that. But um my point being I just thought Kell just came in boom like just was was really brought the energy. Had some follow-up slams. He was looking really really good. Um so I was uh I was I was I was like I think we’re going to get one of these today. We also strangely in the first quarter got Caleb Martin and Simone Fonteio jawing at each other. Um, which I don’t know if Simone said something in English and Italian, but uh, Caleb Martin, former Miami Heat wing, of course, a all-time role player for the Heat and especially in the Eastern Conference Finals, how great he played, arguably that he could have won the Larry Bird award for Eastern Conference final MVP, which went to Jimmy Butler. Um but yeah, my point being on this um that uh that that that just Kell brought some good energy in that in that in that first quarter. Hela got a really and this is this was a big turning point for the game honestly. Second quarter, Haime Hakez starts off the quarter and he draws a foul on Cooper Flag. Now, Flag already had two fouls because Pel Larson was going at him. And so, you’re like, “Oh, all right. Let’s let’s uh let’s let’s let’s see what he’s got here.” You know, little little uh moment for the rookie. And Jason Kid leaves him in and he puts like a pretty move on Tyler Herro for a jumper like right off the bat and was the start of what was a really great night for the number one overall pick. So, That was something. That was uh that was absolutely something. And in this second quarter, this kid Ryan Nemhard for the Dallas Mavericks. Like this kid really, really took over and it was very impressive. They outscored Miami 36-21. Completely swung the game. Heat had a really rough shooting night going into halftime. And they were four of 19 from downtown. 21% they shot 35% from the field. And the only guys keeping them afloat were Tyler Bam and Kel Wear. Everybody else was like stinking up the joint. It was crazy on the Yovic playing time. As an aside, Yovic dude, it was well, he was minus eight, but it wasn’t on him. And I honestly think, and I’m going to sound like I’m I’m caping for for Nico here, and a little bit I am. I feel like he needs some people in his corner because everybody’s rats off a ship. I thought he took care of the ball well. I thought he made some really crisp, good decisions with the basketball. Had some iffy moments on defense. So, I can’t shake that. But on offense, one of the things that’s been taking care of the basketball, I thought that he did that well. I thought he made some really good decisions. Shots just were not falling today. He missed his only two shots. He missed an open three and he missed a runner that both I think rimmed it out. So, like he’s just doesn’t have that confident touch yet. But I actually was like, “Okay.” It was the first time I had seen him in like three games where he looked at least like he belonged on a basketball court. So, that’s progress. progress for Nico in uh in that regard. Okay, so we get to the third quarter um and we get a a killer back and forth between Bam and AD. These guys are going at each other. Bam. Uh you get a monster AD slam. Bam turnaround jumper. Bam’s going right at him for a turnaround. They both hit the ground. Bam starting to feel it. AD answers with a three ball. Then the next time down they kind of break momentum because they they uh they want just have AD on him. They throw Nemh hard around him on the double team. Bam turns it over and there was a killer play. It was like 12 points and the Heat could have got it back down to 10 and it was a killer swing play. Bam gets a steal. DaVon Mitchell down the court turns on the Jets and AD like a giant pterodactyl condor chases it down block loose ball to Bam’s hands he kind of falls ends up going the other way. Naji Marshall scores and they go up 14. So instead of being down 10, 14 point deficit, four-point swing, you know, so instead of this back and forth where Miami is kind of maintaining back where they were, instead you’re uh you’re chasing from behind. And so really a uh yeah, really a tough tough go over there for the Heat with not getting that bucket to go down. Uh Davon Mitchell, though I think did a good job distributing tonight, he also didn’t quite have the offensive game. He did not bring that to Texas with him. He What did he finish today? He was two of seven, four points, nine assists, but no turnovers, no steal. He got blown by a couple times. Like not that dominant. Um DaVon Mitchell stuff that we’re used to seeing. So, you know, DaVon not his best night. Uh Andrew Wiggins, it really like he had probably the toughest night. like he just I think he had like two putbacks but like anything that he tried to score by himself didn’t have a prayer and he’ll have these like he just had some incredible performances and then he’ll throw up one where you’re just like whoa. So the third quarter um you have this big swing moment and then you get Klay Thompson. They really just start uh you know they they they start nailing some big shots. Cooper Flag is feeling himself. He gets a runner off the glass. Brandon Williams had a tough turnaround jumper on Pella Pella Larson, but um yeah, Flag had it going and then the Heat, you know, just didn’t really they they just couldn’t get into a flow of things. And the strange thing about this offensively was that Tyler Hero after 20 points in the first quarter didn’t score in the third. But even odder was he only took two shots which was like and it was noticeable. It was and I don’t know what it was. I don’t know if it was one because you know we’ve been doing this sub thing where Tyler’s the first guy out, Benny’s the first guy in so he’s out usually Haime comes in, then Haime’s kind of handling the ball then you have Tyler Hero come back but he was kind of just off ball the whole time and he just he didn’t get a lot of love. He didn’t get the he didn’t get the rock a lot. And I don’t know if it like just took him out of rhythm or what cuz it it just never really came back after after just having this torch start where he was attacking, he was aggressive. Um you know, I’m not deeply watching the film here, but I don’t know if it didn’t feel like he was being bottled up by anybody. It just I don’t know. He just kind of flowed out of things. And then he got, you know, a couple of late threes. Like I think if I recall I think like two of them were on inbounds, one was like one was like with 5 seconds on the shot clock. He like he just wasn’t involved a ton. So that was a little bit weird especially on a night where there’s no Norman Powell. Um I felt like in a lot of times Haime kind of dominated the ball a little bit and I didn’t think that you know and didn’t have the greatest night and maybe he wasn’t popping on those decisions to find Tyler. Like maybe that was a strategy like hey get in the paint draw the coverage kick to Tyler. I don’t know. Um you know the Heat kind of free flow. They don’t run a whole ton of plays. So I’m I’m a little bit lost on what the hell happened there. So like I’m not going to kill Tyler for the second half cuz like he didn’t throw up a ton of bricks. He was after a half where I think he was eight for 12. He was 0 for five in the second half and that was just strange. And part of it was Bam was having a good night. Kel Wear. This was probably the most exciting thing of the second half with they’re going to come up short. Kel Wear, man, especially in these things, they just pop when he has them offensively. He um first of all, he had an incredible night. Everybody, this has happened, I think, twice in the Heat recently. And I was the other one actually the Dallas game, too, or was the M the Bucks game? But like there was a game where the Heat just couldn’t hit any threes except for KL Wear. And tonight was another one of those where what did we finish with tonight? The Heat finished with 11 made threes today. Four of them were for Galware. That’s great. And a Gal’s like a good shooter, man. Like it’s crazy. He’s like legitimately turned something in with and and like the you know I get these pregame videos. I’m no uh film junkie or nothing like that, but people have said and you can kind of notice that like yeah, he’s he’s definitely made a quicker uh more common release, but he had like he had a real sick one today where he had a Nemhard in front of him in the fourth quarter and he just like kind of whips it, flicks it, and it just goes in. It was really exciting and he got the the game to within uh he got the game to within seven. Ben Nehard hit a sick fadeaway against Ban this in the fourth quarter. And then Kell, he has this drive, goes out wide with his hand, scoop shot around Anthony Davis. And I was just like, that was something. That was something from Kel Wear. Then you have this Anthony Davis shameless spin move flop. Hated it. Um, the Heat respond with that. So, we got a We do get what we wanted, which was a closing lineup with Bam and Kell together. They closed with um Mitchell, Wiggins, and Tyler. Bam comes in off the free throws. He drives right right down the lane. Anthony Davis is way off him. Bam throws up a a hard nearly broke the backboard runner that goes in gets the Heat to within 10. Um and you’re just like, “All right, all right. We got this. You got this puppy going, dude. Got this puppy going.” The Heat got it to within six. And then, let’s see. Uh Kala then forced Christy, Max Christie to miss. And then the Heat. This is the three ball I mentioned. 80 blocked Wiggins from behind. Goes out of bounds off the Mav. Stays with the Heat. There’s 5 seconds left on the shot clock. Spoke calls timeout. This was one of the plays they set up to go to Tyler Herro. Was a little bit of a hard look for him. The three rolled in and out and uh the Mavs got the rebound. They called timeout. They don’t score. Bam. Abio gets a quick run. Nice defense. runs it the other way. Big time bucket. Gets the Heat to within four. Officially a clutch game, which nobody in the league has been in more clutch games than the Dallas Mavericks. And um but that would be that would pretty much be it for the Heat. They’d only score one more basket after that. it all went away because the Mavs would answer um that the Mavs would answer 80 had a a tough jumper over Tyler Hero. So, he got a basket and then and then Cooper Flag, this is what’s going to end up on Sports Center tomorrow. Cooper flag, he ends up with a a sick turnaround jumper uh uh switch gets it to eight and then he gets a block on Andrew Wiggins on the other end. intangibles. And then Mavs take it the other way. AD with a beautiful little uh scoop pitch to Cooper Flag. Puts it in. Mavs on a 6-0 run. It’s a 10-point game. And uh that’d be all she wrote. Hero missed another three with a chance to cut it to five. They could not convert and AD would get a lob. Boom. That would be all she wrote. So bam, he had like two prayer threes. The game was already over that he missed at the end of the game. So, they lose by 10. Uh, tough shooting night, rough night for a lot of guys shooting. I would say the the most noticeable were Wiggins and Haime. Haime did a great job of stealing the basketball, but just could not get anything to go tonight, especially early. And um, you know, of Niche Simone Fontio getting a couple threes to drop was nice. It was nice. Um, but he still was two of seven. Not a great shooting night. It was an okay shooting night. and he’s uh he’s been a little bit of a funk cuz he was like what I think he was four what was he four of 31 coming into this game. Wrote it down somewhere. Yeah, he was four for his last 31 his last five games. So not tremendous. So if we go, he’s six for his last 38 over his last six games. He’s shooting 16% from three. It’s been a rough go of it for the gondola. Not many mama theatrias, you know what I mean? That is tough. Um but all in all, like look, hate losing the Mavericks because I hate the Mavericks. heat on the road hasn’t been as effective, but they also didn’t have Norm tonight. And Norm has been huge for them. He’s obviously coming off a huge game. And I think the thing that sucks for the Heat is like uh I was just talk, you know, and Tyler was talking about this before the game um at shootound with Jackson Winderman about the the comfort of things and how they’re coming together. I asked Norm about that. He’s saying that’s all kind of the lead on defense. Defense, you know, was not awesome tonight. You know, the Mavs did shoot over 50% both at threes and from the field. They had a a you know, I honestly do think it was a little bit of like they made a lot of tough shots. I mean, Nemhard. Uh Brandon Williams had a couple of tough makes today. Cooper Flag shotmaking was sick. Uh Naji Marshall was like always there to pick up the loose change it felt like for uh for the Mavericks. Wanted to fight Jimmy Butler. That was crazy. Um, so all in all, I thought that it was a uh mostly just a rough shooting night. I think it happens. I think the the good part of today. I like seeing Bam and Kell. I thought they both played a good game. Obviously sucks to not get the ending that you wanted. Um, but Kell, I I love seeing this light from him. I want to see it when there’s a full deck of guys. And I hope that Spo in thoughts is is more open to playing him and Bam together. I’m very intrigued by that. Um but yeah, you just can’t. It was tough to The Heat even got 10 more attempts up than they uh than the the Mavericks did. Got to the free throw line more than they did, but shot like a third little pick tonight, dude. House full of bricks for the Miami Heat. They’ll be back in action on Friday against Orlando. So, we will uh await Retribution to bounce back.
Tobin recaps the Miami Heat’s 118-108 loss to the Dallas Mavericks. Dallas once again slowed down Miami’s high paced offense. Tyler Herro started game on fire but had a scoreless 2nd half. Bam Adebayo and Kel’el Ware tried to engineer a comeback. Andrew Wiggins and everyone else aside couldn’t hit a shot. Cooper Flagg and Anthony Davis shined in 2nd half for Dallas. We got some Jović dude minutes. Mark Cuban is still a baby.

Spo has to stop these small lineups
Terrible coaching and Jovic is 💩
Trade Jovic ASAP
Shot under 40% got destroyed on the boards… Team is overrated.
Wiggins playing like poop, herro with zero points 2nd half, spo not playing ware with bam. Bring me Giannis
I know you’re Jovic’s number 1 guy but mannn he is looking like Jovic Dud instead of Jovic Dude. I think he needs to see the mental coach Jaime worked with. He’s better than this
Ware should not be getting around the same playing time as Dru Smith! All Spo knows is Small Ball!
It happens … On to the next one …
Orlando is gonna kill us in the paint Friday if Ware doesn’t start with Bam. Even if he does start, Black and Suggs are gonna make Herro look like his nickname “boy” wonder. Powell please come back 😩
BLOW IT UP! I'VE SEEN ENOUGH!
Cant play small ball against these teams that have actual size and big depth on the bench. Game would have been uglier if PJ Washington played. Wake up Spo!!
Cant wait to see Wagner, Bitadze, and Wendell all have 10+ boards Friday 🙄
Even if Jovic couldn't hit the broad side of a barn but it seemed unlike other recent games he was playing the right way, could easily have had 3-4 assists if shots were made. He will come out of the slump and kill it.
Sick of The Three ! If you cant her in the paint … stay home 😮
Very fishy with Herro in the second half
Sorry Tobe .. Jov's A Bum 😮
I didnt watch the game live, but in the highlights they did not show the heat on offense the last 5 minutes of the game, whats up with that?
4:01 THIS!!!!!!!!!!! AND DUDE I GAMBLED ON THE HEAT IN 2022 AND THE NBA RIGGED THE GAMES. So im tired of this bs of the heat not getting stars, the league openly rigging it for everyone else
WE are playing too SMALL
7:08
Well they've got upcoming superstar COOPER FLAGG on their team its inevitable they win this game…. And Miami just rely on "team effort" with no number 1 player on the team
Niko been garbage for the last 2 years. Never seen ANYTHING in him. We always lose against shit teams. Heat tradition
Nikola Jovic "DUUDDEEE" – P U R E – GARBAGE 😅😂😅
Played 0 fucking defense
Without Herro, the game would've been over at half time.
WIGGINS DUDEEE!!! What was that???! In order for the heat to have any chance we can’t have games from him like that. It’s totally unacceptable especially against a rookie in Flagg. Be better WIGGINS!
Wiggins is ass… for some damn reason the guy kept forcing shots instead of sharing the ball!
Herro changed the offense and it’s not the same ever since he came back. He slows it down and really thrives off the pick and roll.
10:58 still defending your JOVIC DUD? 😂😂😂
I have been saying we need to bench Wiggins and let Ware start . Wiggins is to soft and he literally shoots bricks no soft touch . Ware needs to start
It's a make or miss league…with that said ..wiggs …JJJ..and Mitchell couldn't make poop…
Ware needs to start all the time. We are not going to win a champiuonship with Tyler. Very good offensive player but no defense. We need Pat to step up and make that one trade to put us in the finals.
Give Niko minutes to kas and vlad.
What about when the ref hit Herro in the 🏀 🏀’s
No reason to not go double big. Wiggins and JJJ must be psychically linked because anytime one of them is off the other is too.
Ware and Bam needed to play 35 minutes each. I rather lose this game and be fresh for Orlando
Spo listen to yourself for once on this important point, "Make me play you." Trade Bam and Tyler for Gannis and you have a championship team. Secondly tell as long as Tyler is here, "Pass the Rock to Ware!!!!!!!!!! The real best Heat is Kelel Ware, RIGHT NOW IF HE IS GIVEN THE OPPROTUNITIES (32MINUTES A GAME) AND YA GOTCHA SUPERSTAR. 22pts, 10rbs, 2assists, Ware is a much better offensive player, yess right now. Bam
The road …… Our kryptonite
I am not asking Jovic to be an all star right now…but 4 years in….I don't know man….should be seeing some consistentcy…but what do I know…I'm just a couch watching fan.
Bam stat first then Kelel; 30.3-min, 24.5-min….19.5-pts, 12.2-pts, overall shooting 47%, 53.8%….threes 35.7%, 41.6%……. both shoot 81% at the line.. Last night Ware was 4 of 5 at threes (80%) and the rest of the team 7 0f 32 which is 22%. As long as Bam and Kelel are Heat play them both 34minutes and half those minutes together. Last night, why did Wiggs get over 33 min. and Ware only a tick over 25. If that situation were switched last night we win and deep down inside Spo knows is true. Larsen starts, gets 4 pts 0rbs, At this point he pretends Wiggs, Bam, Herro and Norm are all better players than Kelel.
Why is it the heat always shoot bad whenever they play in Dallas? I don’t recall ever seeing a game where the heat shot well overall.
Unleash your best player, Kelel Ware. Play him 34minutes a game and give him an average of 18 shots (4 to 6 threes) and you will son realize Ware is the best HEat right now. Spo ya harp on a fallacy, "Make me play you," now is time to put that previously ignored concept in effect and release Ware from your jail.
Ware can dribble into shots though up till now he has not been allowed to do so. 34minutes from now to the end of the season and Ware will average 17.5pts, 11.5rbs and 2 bks a game. Free Kelel and turn him loose on the NBA. But better you trade Bam and another player for Gannis; NBA TITLE
Wiggins and Spo bad lines uo cost the game. And why they stop giving touches to Hero
Jovic is not a point guard, he is a catch and shoot, player, he was that for the national team. He is or a taller simmone. Tell him to build on that. Tell him to look at the rim. That’s how he help this team, swing the ball and look to score.
Jovic should be in South Dakota
