THE HERD | Colin Cowherd CALLS Chicago Bears Fans OUT, “Caleb Williams Is CARRIED BY TEAM” | NFL

In Chicago, they have quarterback um it’s like quarterback derangement syndrome. Like they get very defensive if you criticize Caleb Williams. And this week, Ben Johnson addressed the fact that his quarterback has a bizarrely low 58% completion percentage. I know what the stats say. Um throw those out the window. He’s he’s doing a really good job managing the ball game and uh that’s that’s step number one for the quarterback. Um and so he’s he’s going to continue to get better. He’s doing the process is is really good right now with how he approaches the week. Um the way he’s taking the coaching, the way he’s applying the coaching. I’m very pleased with that and I I think we’re going to continue to see him ascend whether the stats tell the story or not. So I mean here’s the thing with Caleb. He is a big play quarterback. Bears lead the NFL in big plays, so the ceiling high. And he’s also really inaccurate. But instead of just talking about Caleb Williams, I’m going to combine Caleb Williams and Bo Nicks because they’re very similar. Both talented, both in a rookie contract, both uneven, both miss on some layups, both make big plays, right? Both have offensive coaches, Shawn Peyton, Ben Johnson. Um, and yet there’s a lot of criticism of both. How are they winning? Does quarterback play even matter anymore? How is Denver a number two seed? How is Chicago a number one seed? How is Bo Knicks 10-2? Quarterback just doesn’t matter. It’s overrated. How is Caleb Williams 9 and3 a number one seed? It’s all very explainable. Go look at their O lines. The top four O lines in the NFL, none have a quarterback that’s making the max money. There’s two ways to win big in this league. superstar quarterback mostly taking a team friendly deal or a really talented quarterback Bo Nicks Caleb Williams on a rookie deal. So, I’ll give you an example. I think what’s underrated is how good Chicago and Denver’s rosters are. If you’re wondering how Bo Knicks and Caleb could potentially end up as number one seeds and be so uneven, let me give you an example of how good the Bears and Broncos rosters are. Here are the 10 best players. Okay. And there are excellent players I’m not including. And I don’t care what the order is, but I’m I’m I’m going kind of close. Nick Bonito, Denver. Patrick Certan, three-time Pro Bowler, Denver. Joe Tuni, Pro Bowler, three straight years. Darnell Wright, Chicago. Drew Dolman, number two ranked center PFF. Garrett BS, number two ranked left tackle, Denver. Huanga, the safety. Unbelievable player. USC, San Francisco, and now in Denver. Uh Montes Sweat, seven and a half sacks, game changer since he arrived defensively in Chicago. Quinn Miners right now the number one guard on PFF. Kevin Bard leads the NFL in interceptions. I am not including in the top 10. Do you see how many offensive linemen were on that? Bears in Denver arguably have the best offensive lines in football. Detroit’s up there. I didn’t count Jaylen Johnson, who’s a Pro Bowler, but he’s been hurt most of the year, so I won’t count him. He may be their most talented defensive player. I’m not counting Zack Allen for Denver, who would start for every single team in the NFL. Every single one. So, when you’re like, well, how does Bo Knicks, how does Caleb Williams, rookie contract, really, really high-end offensive coaches, unbelievable offensive lines. You don’t have to complete 67%. you can be uneven. Now, what you hope is over the next two to three years, Bo gets up to 66, Caleb gets up to 61 and a half, 62 and a half. And all the bumps in that uneven quarterback play, I mean, when Brady was at his best, you got the same Tom Brady literally every Sunday. He would throw picks, but it was the same guy. It was the same Payton. It was the same Breeze. It’s mostly the same Momes. But with these guys, you’re not quite sure quarter to quarter, half to half what you get. If that evens out, and it needs to because as you get paid more, think about this. How are these guys number one seeds? Caleb Williams cap hit is only 15% of Dak Prescott’s. Bone Nick’s cap hit is only 8% of Daks, which is a compliment to Dak because Dak has the number one offense and he’s gobbling up so much of the money. So when you Great offensive coach, great offensive line, fairly underappreciated stacked rosters, that explains it. Yeah, I want to explain this further because Colin’s talking about Chicago Bears fans having a quarterback derangement syndrome and it’s something that I’m experiencing firsthand and it’s it’s really bizarre because like I like I keep saying in these videos, I’ve defended Caleb Williams from the moment he was drafted by the Chicago Bears. I’m the one I was also saying any of the people that were trying to say like we should keep Justin Fields and trade the Pitb or whatever and I was like you’re out of your mind. You’re absolutely out of your mind. When every single week last year, everyone just kept saying, “Uh, he’s a bust. He’s a bust. He’s a bust.” You know, when they were judging his body language and whatnot, whatever it is, I was like, I defended him every step of the way. And I was so brutally honest with Chicago Bears fans that I said, “You got to be careful who you listen to right now because your fan base is so massive, so huge that the media has admitted, Colin did an interview with someone where they admitted, boy, do they want this Chicago Bears team to be great. They want them to be great because the ratings, the views, everything goes through the roof.” And so you saw a lot of people milking those takes, giving some very interesting takes about the Chicago Bears team. And I was like, “Y’all got to be careful.” And I even said, “Listen, it’s very easy for me to get up here and say the Chicago Bears are winning the Super Bowl.” And everybody would like, “Yeah, yeah, yeah.” And they’d love me and my views would go through the roof and subscribers go through the roof. And I was like, “I’m not playing that game. I’m here to be real and have honest, grounded conversations.” So, I have been so insanely consistent of Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears team. And so it’s so bizarre for me to point out, yeah, Caleb has been inaccurate and, you know, it’s just a thing that’s happening right now. And the comments that I have received are so unhinged, saying that I am just a an aggressively anti- Caleb. I hate Caleb. I hate the Bears. I don’t want to see them win. Like, it’s just comment after I mean, it’s just it’s just bizarre. Caleb’s the only reason why they’re even winning. He’s throwing perfect passes. his receivers are just dropping them if you add up all the drops then what would be his completion percentage compared to Drake Mazize and it’s just like it becomes just kind of insane honestly it becomes kind of delusional when after they beat the B after they beat the Eagles I said Caleb didn’t really have that great of a game and I said this was a coaching master class I was like this was a Ben Johnson special which I was saying is so impressive and all the so many of the comments in that original video were like you’re you know it’s ridiculous how dare you credit coaching and I was like, “What are you guys talking about now?” So then I made a separate video and was like, “Let’s just go through just the run game with what Ben Johnson was doing and how impressive it was.” And it’s like, “This benefits the Chicago Bears.” I was like, “This is praising the Chicago Bears.” So some of the conversations around this whole thing have just been so weirdly bizarre. And there’s just two statistics that I really want to show you. Um, but again, before I do, it’s like I’m the one that said throughout the course of the season, before everybody started really talking about the Bears more and more. Before this even became the reality, I’m the one that said that the Bears can be contending for the number one seed. I said that. I said that weeks ago. That’s what I said. Okay? I didn’t hear anyone else say I didn’t see First. I didn’t see the Herd. I didn’t see NFL Live. I didn’t see Ghetto. I didn’t see any of them mention that. I did. Okay? Um, I’m the one that said this passing game is struggling and and they’re winning not necessarily because of this game, because of the passing game. And then Ben Johnson comes out and then said that and people yelled at me for saying that. And then even now when I went over that quote, people were like, “Well, you’re you’re taking the quote out of context. He’s not just blaming Caleb.” I understand that he’s an NFL head coach. Of course, he’s not just going to get out there and say, “Caleb, you’re the problem.” There’s other factors at play, but Caleb is still the core problem as to why the passing game is not as successful as it should be. And again, as they started winning, as they start to have success, I said, “Man, they’re leaving points on the on the on the table right now.” And I said, “Look how great they are right now. Look how great this offense is once Caleb can get better and run this offense more efficiently.” I said, “They’re going to be hanging 35 plus points a game here.” I’m the one that said that. I’m the one that said that. I’m the one that said first before anyone else started to to admit it, I said, “Listen, the way how this season is unfolding, the Chicago Bears have just as good of enough chance to win the Super Bowl as any of these other top contenders that, you know, if this was different, if this was the year of where we knew the Ravens were the Ravens and the Bills were the Bills and the Eagles were the Eagles and the Chiefs were the Chiefs, I’d say, yeah, probably a tougher, you know, hill to climb.” But considering how this season is unfolding, there’s no reason to downplay who they are currently right now. But it doesn’t mean we still can’t have honest conversations about what we’re seeing. Like all of these things can be said at the same time. Multiple things can be true. I say that all the time. I say that at least once a week. Multiple things can be true. And again, look at this. Since someone asked about drop passes, adjusted completion percentage controls for throw away. So when you’re just throwing it away and drop passes. So, it’s it’s really just like are you delivering accurate balls to uh your receivers? And Drake May 79.5% Jared Goff leads the NFL with 81.2% and Drake May not only 79.5% an average depth of target of 9.2 which is one of the highest in the NFL. And we can go down the list you got Josh Allen, Sam Darnold, Jordan Love, Dak Prescott, etc., etc. Bo Nicks. Bo Nicks has had 31 drops. He leads the NFL currently with drops. So, if you want to talk about drop passes, he’s the one that you really got to focus on here, but he has a 76.2% um uh adjusted completion percentage. And Caleb Williams is dead last at 69.6%. He is dead last. Okay. And he has 19 drops. All right. Trevor Lawrence has 30. Bo Nicks, as I said, has 31, but he’s he’s the only quarterback, the only starting quarterback under 70%. Cam Ward is at 70.7%. So, yes, he has not been accurate. That is a real thing that’s happening here, and it’s okay to discuss that. I said going into the season, this is the rookie year for Caleb Williams. And then now when we just look at ontarget percentage. Okay, so this is truly are you throwing the ball on target to your receiver? That’s it. Are you delivering an accurate enough ball that can legitimately be caught? Yes or no? He is bottom in the NFL with 67.3% of ontarget percentage. Okay. Dylan Gabriel is 60 is excuse me is 70.7%. And it’s not like you need to be 80% 90% but he’s 67.3%. When we look at his bad throw percentage he’s second from the top for the highest and the higher the number of the worst. So second worst. Michael Pennix is 24%. Caleb Williams is 22.5%. So again, it’s not like this is one of those things where these numbers have to get absolutely slashed in half, but it is still something to discuss here. The league average from ontarget percentage is 75%. And Caleb is 67.3%. He’s the only starting quarterback that’s also not at 70% or higher. And these numbers also have to have additional context because you can have a great quarterback who can have more uh you know offtarget throws or whatever it is because they’re making more difficult throws at a higher rate. Matthew Stafford is going to have a higher volume of more difficult pass attempts than say CJ Strad or something um or you know whatever quarterback you want to use. And even if we just now look at you know a percentage you know how you how often what percentage of your throws are through tight windows etc etc. Caleb Williams is at the bottom. He’s dead last 10.5%. So it’s not like he’s has a lot of inaccurate throws because he’s trying to really force the ball down the field tight window like he’s making like really difficult throws where you’re just like well yeah dude those are some he’s shooting logo threes. Steph Curry’s three three-point percentage would be a lot higher if he only took smart more open looks but he consistently takes incredibly difficult shots. So of course his numbers are actually going to be pulled down a bit. Um, and so it’s just it’s okay to discuss that. No one’s saying that when we bring this up that it’s the finality of who Caleb Williams is, that it’s stick a fork in it, he’s done, he it’s over, he’s overrated, he’s being carried, he’s there. Like, that’s not what it is. It’s just it’s just not. And it’s not enough just to say, well, he makes the plays when it matters most. And it’s just like, you know, those things all sound good. They do, but it’s like, you know, it’s not the reality and it’s not how a coaching staff treats. And that’s why I always talk about turnover worthy plays. And I’ve used this example many times recently because it’s another stat that people really struggle with. When you say, “Oh, that should have been an interception.” They’re like, “Yeah, but it wasn’t.” And it’s just like, “Dude, that’s not how coaching works.” Like a coach and a player knows it, too. You know, like like I remember I think it was against the Commanders when Caleb absolutely almost threw a pick six and it was just like you’re really lucky that that wasn’t an interception that could have that would have lost you the game. And I remember Bears fans are like, “Well, it wasn’t so it doesn’t count. Doesn’t matter.” And I’m like, “I promise you it matters. I promise you.” Caleb looks at that and goes, “Oh my god, I was so lucky.” And Ben Johnson is like, “What the heck were you thinking? You can’t throw that ball.” They’re not like, “Well, it wasn’t intercepted, so it doesn’t matter. We don’t even have to talk about it or discuss it. Hooray.” Like that’s not it’s not how it works. It’s not how coaching works. It’s not how playing works. So I these are things to discuss. I find it really funny when people try to police the conversations and they’re just like just keep talking about how they’re winning and blah blah blah blah blah. And it’s like no, that’s the most boring conversation. So we should just talk about the top four teams and their record and that’s it. There’s nothing else to discuss. There’s nothing else to unpack. It’s absurd. doesn’t make any sense. And Colin’s obviously sensing it. I’m sensing it. I’m actually reading all the comments. And so it’s just like I’m making this video more to just emphasize like these things are happening and it’s okay. It’s okay that they’re happening and it’s okay to discuss them. And it’s remarkable and awesome that the Bears are still winning and that if Caleb can continue to improve and get better and better, this team can become an absolute juggernaut. Saying that does and acknowledging that does not make me personally aggressively anti- Caleb and anti- Chicago. Okay, it it’s like so insane. I was going to read comments, but I don’t even feel like doing that. I don’t feel like going through uh comments. You can read the comments yourself. You’ll see them. You’ll see them on this very video, I’m sure. Um but uh yeah, I’ll just leave it at that. I think I was very clear in this video, okay? Highlighted that Caleb is indeed inaccurate right now and literally the the most inaccurate quarterback currently in the NFL. And yet this team and this offense, high-powered, uh, number one in the NFC, it’s okay that Caleb is struggling because he is indeed struggling even though he is having some nice big plays and whatnot and has has, you know, put his teams in positions to win undeniably still has plenty of room for growth, uh, etc., etc., etc. But you’re allowed to have honest conversations about the quarterback, about the team. Um, a win is never just a win. A loss is never just a loss. If it was that simple, if it was that straightforward, every single year we would have the number one seed of the AFC go up against the number one seed in the AFC, AFC, NFC, and they would play each other in the Super Bowl and the better team would win every single time in terms of who has better points per game and who has, you know, better defense. And we would see every single time two would beat seven, uh, three would beat six, two would beat three, one would beat two. Every single it would be the most easiest, straightforward, simple thing. And what I noticed that when people when fans want to police the conversation, it’s like they don’t want you to have any type of actual conversation about what’s going on, what you’re saying. They don’t want you to unpack anything. It’s just everything’s great. Quarterback’s great. They’re winning. Team’s winning. They’re the best. They’re number one. Anything else is hate, doubt, and etc. And it’s just like it’s not how it works. That is not how it works. It’s okay to have discussions. It’s okay to have nuance. It’s okay to look at things from different lenses. It’ll be okay. It’ll be okay. And I got news for you Chicago Bears fans. If the Bears are legit and Caleb is legit and you start winning, you better get some thicker skin because these are the conversations that are had about the better teams. Okay? I know it’s been a long time for you, but this is what happened with the 49ers. This is what happened with the Philadelphia Eagles. This is what happened with the Bills, the Ravens, the Bengals, the Patriots, the Chiefs, the Rams. This is how it works. This is how it works. So, get used to it. It’s a good problem to have. But those are just my thoughts. I’d absolutely love to hear yours. What do you guys all think about the Chicago Bears? Caleb Williams. Um, is the Bears roster carrying Caleb right now? That’s what Colin is saying. That is what Colin, make no mistake about it. That is what Colin is straight up saying because he said, “Well, how are they winning? It’s their roster. They’re all line. Their lack of cap hit.” You know, that’s what he’s saying. That is what he is saying. It’s not necessarily what I’m saying. That is what he is saying. So, let me know your thoughts in the comments below. I read every single comment. So, whether you agree with me or disagree with me, either way, let’s get in some discussions. Let’s get in some fights. But ultimately, let’s just have some fun. And please do consider subscribing. We are building an amazing community here and absolutely love to see you part of it. 1. I would agree the majority of the time he is carried by the team, but he does come in clutch many times in the 4th quarter. I believe he has the best stats or one of the best stats in the 4th quarter of all qbs. Their is a lot of room for improvement and he isn’t even close to his full potential

  2. All bears and none bears fans have to complain about is Caleb ‘s 59% completion percentage! Shut the hell up. Once Caleb continues to learn the offense and how to manage situational football plus putting some touch on his shorter throws the bears offense will be unstoppable! be patient !!!

  3. I agree and im a die hard bears fan, you have always supported caleb ,your just smart and logical about your analysis as always, keep it up brother, love your perspective you have been solid and steady more so than colin or any other of the media big dogs

  4. Yeah ok julian we all know you dont have to point it out every take how bad his accuracy is and he is last place…he still is in first place..perfection is not what we are aiming for…progress is…he cut the sacks significantly…and make videos of how much that changed or the 3rd and 4th down percentage…as long as he is where he is right now while he is winning

  5. No Lies told. But the thing is Caleb even acknowledges it himself in the press conference. I think people us as Bears fans were so eager for a winning season that we all had a "just add water" mentality and the quarterback was gonna be great. New coach, Great offensive weapons, new O-Line, Not the case! As good, and great as Caleb will eventually be, he had to unlearn some of his habits despite being successful throughout his upbringing and learn a NFL style of play. He is accepting it and he's progressing. There's no one who can say that he is the same QB from week 1 to now. He has gotten better but he still have a lot of work to do. We all can just relax. Caleb, under Ben Johnson's coaching, will become a high 60%, 70% passer and he will be just fine.

  6. Reading straight from PFF, and everyone knows it is flawed. Look at their NFL analysts. The problem is that the NFL is no longer an eye test. Fantasy football, prop bets, and social media have sullied the game. I’m all about people making money, but they all know the average fan knows nothing about ball!!!

  7. The amount of us Bears fans right now that get offended over saying we’re winning because of good coaching is ridiculous. That’s the biggest compliment you can get in football is that your COACH is GREAT. And to all the bears fan YES CALEB IS PLAYING BELOW AVERAGE with his fundamentals. But that should make us even more excited that we’re 9-3 and Caleb still has so much more room for improvement. And we should have all the confidence in the world that Caleb’s fundamentals will get better and better BECAUSE WE HAVE A COACH LIKE BEN JOHNSON.

  8. As a Packers fan, I'm happy that the bears finally have their guy and can compete with anybody. I don't think you said anything wrong though if you're just pulling from stats, plus its his first year in this system, I'm sure he'll be better. The rivalry only gets that much better with a good bears team. Anyway, GO PACK GO!

  9. Hey man, I love Caleb, but he does need to clean up alot of these throws. There's some that are caught even though they are behind the receivers. Having said that, he's the most talented and clutch quarterback we've ever had. I'm not worried, he'll be fine once he settles down a bit.

  10. It’s simple. Caleb isn’t giving the ball away and throwing it away instead of taking sacks. Caleb has to get more accurate. But everything else he struggled with, he’s shown obvious improvement through coaching. And what are his stats that last 5 minutes of the game? Ben has allowed him to be more of a game manager. But he will also weirdly break every Bears QB record this year. Sorry he’s not a 5k guy, but he’s still the best we’ve had.

  11. It's hard for most to believe but it's close to impossible for players to be carried the production might not look like we want but if it works that's due to pro& cons of entire team.

  12. Anyone getting mad about giving coaching and bears players credit are not bears fans they are Caleb fans. It’s no different than someone being a fan of Brittany spears. They are Caleb groupies.

  13. It’s because bears fans have been starved of a qb for so long that they have become absolutely delusional. They care more about people saying they have a good qb than there team winning. Its just a delusional fan base with no common sense 😂
