The Celtics have a GOLDEN opportunity…

The Boston Celtics have a golden opportunity as with an absolute wild day coming to a close in the NBA. A trade has formed which would involve the Celtics landing one of the best players in the NBA. Welcome in to Celtics Digest everybody. I’m Jay Andrews and I appreciate you hanging out with me and tuning into today’s show. So, make sure you hit that subscribe button. Stick around for some daily Celtics coverage. All right, we got to take you through what was a crazy day, a wild day in the NBA. And it involves this man right here, the Greek freak, Giannis Antakmpo, because well, this all started a little bit yesterday when it was reported that Giannis had deleted a majority of his quote unquote Bucks content from his Instagram. Now, he did leave post step from the 2021 NBA championship and the NBA Cup championship. And this obviously caused a bunch of rumors to spark and say, “Well, is Giannis going to leave Milwaukee?” And while that was a big topic of this offseason, in fact, there was a couple times where we thought that the Boston Celtics could be a landing spot for him, it never really worked out this off season. And well, now, why did this delete happen? Well, it turns out that he didn’t fully delete most of his content. And it was more of a overhaul of his social media. He did delete a lot off his ex or Twitter as well. But of course, this kind of started to get the rumor train rumor mill going on Giannis Trades. That leads us to today where some wild reports started coming in because we first had this from Ari that said, quote, “Amid a rough start to the season, Milwaukeee’s Jana Santo has grown increasingly frustrated with the franchise.” sources familiar to the situation tell the consensus. That was step one. And then came step two, which may be the biggest one. This is from Brian Winhorst of ESPN. Um he reported that Giannis Antakmpo had requested a trade from the Milwaukee Bucks before the 2025 2026 season. He ended up though coming to an agreement with the Bucks saying that as long as they were in a winning situation, he would want to stay with the organization. That of course is not the case for Milwaukee. If you don’t know, they’re 1 and5 without Giannis on the court. They’re nine and eight with him on the court. And they recently just lost to the Washington Wizards. Yes, the Washington Wizards who may be one of the worst basketball teams I have ever seen. That of course continued on to cause the frustration until the notable NBA guy, the guy we all trust, Shams Shirana spoke out and said Justin Giannis Antakmpo and his agent Alex Sar or however you say that is Sardis have stated conversations with Milwaukee but have started conversations with the Milwaukee Bucks about the twotime NB NBA MVP’s future and discussing whether his best fit is staying is staying or elsewhere sources tell ESPN a resolution is expected in the coming weeks. Plainly put right there, Giannis Antmpo is asking for another train. Giannis is saying, “This organization I want to be a part of if it’s a winning caliber organization.” It’s not. You made some weird signings this off season. You’re not helping the team out. And we’re not the same team we were back in 2021. That was almost four years, 5 years ago now. That’s not the same team. I want to play for a winning organization. And credit to Giannis, he deserves to. That of course leads to the Celtics report of it all. The Celtics actually have a pretty good trade setup for Giannis and they could easily lead this to their future because well, the Bucks picks don’t exactly belong to them. In fact, a lot of them are with the Celtics. And that’s where we go to the report. Jackson or Jack Simon a fan side saying quote the Celtics have control of almost all of their draft picks moving forward meaning they could pull them all together in an attempt to land Greek Freak and pair him with Tatum. So obviously they’ve got all their draft picks and that is a huge thing for the Boston Celtics to kind of push to the Milwaukee Bucks saying hey we know that Milwaukee has traded away some of your draft picks. Guess what? We still have all of our own. So, we’re going to be like, “Hey, we could give you a bunch of these, but in the same time, uh, Giannis would need to be a pretty good price.” You would have to think when you’re talking about Giannis Antarmpo and the Greek Freak. Price is going to be something that is expected across really a lot of what these trade rumors, these trade conversations are. 30.6 points per game. He has 30 minutes per game, 10.7 in the rebounds per game. His field goal percentage is otherworldly. And it’s expected when you get the name of Greek freak, when you are a perennial top five player in the MV in the MVP voting, you’re expected to put up these numbers. But unfortunately, he realizes he can put up those numbers all he wants, but it’s not going to matter. And for the Celtics, obviously, one guy popped up that we thought, well, we could easily trade him to Milwaukee. Milwaukee has shown interest in him, and it’s Anthony Simons. We actually made a video really recently talking about Anthony and how the Bucks were one of the teams that showed significant interest in him this off season. Well, that is part of it, but here’s the big problem. Jiannisko and his contract, it’s going to be a lot. And here is kind of what we see here. Jack Simon, a fan cited saying, quote, “Unfortunately, in order to match onto the Kmpo’s salary, the Celtics would have to trade one of either Jaylen Brown or Derek White. considering how much those two guys have meant to their franchise, primarily Brown, that would be a painful move to make.” End quote. I 100% agree. Treading JB or Derek White, would be very hard because obviously D White coming over from the San Antonio Spurs, how big he has been to this organization since then, how big he was to this organization and the 2024 playoff run, obviously getting to a championship. And for Jaylen Brown, it’s been JB and JT for pretty much as long as I can remember. So losing one of those guys would be very hard, but ultimately it is Giannis Anttompo. And if you can add an Anthony Simons, maybe this is a deal they can make. That’s where we continue on with the report. Jack Simon of fan cited saying, quote, “But from Boston’s perspective, the ideal trade package would probably be White and Anthony Simons. Those two contracts would make the money work. However, Milwaukee would undoubtedly want more assets back in a deal.” End quote. And while yes, I do agree to the fact that Milwaukee is going to want more assets back than just Derek White and of course um Anthony Simons. There is a little bit of what we’re seeing in the NBA, specifically talk about Kevin Durant situation this past offseason and how he almost forced his way to Houston. Players have a lot more power than what they did 5 10 years ago and Milwaukee has been one of those teams that has not let their players get power. But for Giannis Antakmpo and his agent, if they want, they could figure out a way to where they could basically force their way to what they want, which to be fair and to the Celtics position, if if Giannis got what he wanted, he’s probably going to go to New York. The Knicks are the team that he seems to have the most interest in. Um that was a team that had called about him this all season and potentially could be something that would formulate a lot easier. But for the Celtics, if they can bridge that gap, it could be something to ask for. And so I ask you the question here. Would you trade Derek White, Anthony Simons, and draft assets for Giannis Anttompo? Let me know your thoughts in the comment section. Is this a trade you would make? I like this trade and and maybe I’m crazy for it because I do love Derek White. I could really not care about Anthony Simons. I there are people who do care about him and I’m very happy for y’all, but I I just don’t see I don’t I don’t see Anthony doing much for this organization in the future. I would struggle to see how pairing your Greek freak and Jason Tan wouldn’t lead the Celtics to another championship. I understand their contracts would basically put the Celtics into a predicament where you better draft well and you better sign some really good uh free agents for a good price, but at the same time it may not matter. You have Jaylen Brown, Giannis Anakoupo, and Jason Tatum. That’s a very, very good roster. But ultimately, we’ll have to see what happens. Giannis, in my mind, is he’s going to be traded. He’s going to be traded. And uh a little part of me has the mindset of I don’t like New York. I want the Knicks to never win a championship once again. And if he wants to go to there, I’d rather go out. I’d rather get him, put him with the Celtics and keep him away from the Knicks. Also, a part of me says that, but we’ll see what happens. Shams is a good reliable source and he’ll keep us updated on everything with Jiannisko. A resolution is coming one way or another. Whether he stays and we know that or he’s going to get a trade, it’s coming very, very quickly and we’ll keep you updated. Welcome or excuse me, we’ll see you right.
