Joe Thornton’s wife didn’t know he could be traded

We had dinner with his parents, I remember, and he got a phone call and he said it was whoever the GM was. He came back in and he said, “I just got traded.” And Wayne said, “Where, too?” He said, “Santa.” And Wayne said, “Good. That’s where Scotty is,” his cousin. And then and I said, “What does that mean?” And then he said, “Well, I’m leaving tomorrow. I’m going to play in San Jose.” And I said, “Where is San Jose?” I knew it was somewhere between San Francisco and LA, but I wasn’t quite Yeah. And then uh I said, “What? They don’t ask you like if they just send you what?” I I And my brother was flying in to visit. So his visit was different. And then he just helped me pack and then I I left too. Yeah.

Joe Thornton’s wife had no idea he could be traded — until Joe got the call. 😅 Her reaction? Was just great, haha. Hockey life hits different.
