Rich Eisen’s Message to Steelers Fans Ahead of Pittsburgh’s Key Ravens Week 14 AFC North Showdown

of the teams that are at the crossroads at six and six, two of them are in first place because they share it in the AFC North. You got also the Kansas City Chiefs at six and six, right? That’s a crossroads, baby. Mike B. Okay, just to name three. But the uh Ravens and Steelers playing one another. Um Ravens had a win streak before Joe Burrow blew that one up on Thanksgiving night. The Steelers have just once upon a time four and one. You know, you could do the math. Two and five. That ain’t it. They’re booing the coach. They’re They’re not even cheering during Renegade. What’s going on? You know, unbelievable. And uh people are saying like that is the low water mark. Yeah, that’s the ultimate like it’s over now. We’re not even cheering during Renegade. Yeah. Um, so Aaron Rogers was asked if it’s time for his famous ALX message for his newest fan base. I mean, that was in 2012, I believe. Uh, 2014, maybe one of those two. Um, you know, it’s it’s different team, different different time. And what you say needs to be authentic. In that moment, I felt like there was a major overreaction. We played three games. We played two potential that would turn out to be playoff teams and we went one and two and then we went on a absolute heater after that starting with the game in Chicago. Um so it’s just feeling the pulse of the team. I don’t feel like this team has a freak out or a panic that uh that I need to like send a message out to the to the zeitgeist that uh everybody needs to just relax a little bit. And we’ve been playing inconsistent football, that’s for sure. um got to play better, but I have confidence in leadership of the team. I have confidence in my guys and and that we’re going to put a better performance on the field this weekend. Well, that’s good news there um for that. By the way, it was 2014 is what he’s referring to. Um and he’s right, just so everybody know, they lost to the New Orleans Saints in week eight, fell to 5 and three, had a by-week, and he told everyone to relax. Real AX and talk about a heater. They lost only once the rest of the season, a loss at the Bills. And they did go into Chicago. I mean, they did have actually the Bears come into their house, win that game. They went from 5-3 to 12-4, beat the Cowboys in the playoffs, I believe. Was that the one where Cook caught the ball right on the sideline when Rogers made that stupid crazy ass throw? I think that was the Right. Am I wrong? Would that be the one? Uh, did Jared Cook, right? the tight end who got his feet and his toes right there. Is that that one? Sure. That was the Seahawks, you know. And I I think that that might have been that game. The uh the Cowboys won it 26-21 and then they lost at the Seahawks in the conference championship game. I think that was the one with the onside kick and all the crazy crazy. What a playoffs. Oh my gosh. That was 2017. Was that 2017? That was 2017. Okay. So, I lose track. I’m sorry, of all the time Rogers beat your team. No offense. Was the 2016 season though, right? Um, but I think the Reax is what he’s referring to. Listen, the only reason why I’m bringing it up here, um, just to be accurate, just to give everyone some some some thoughts, uh, about what he’s saying there, different teams. And plus, you know, I I think Rogers is reading the room and he knows like for him to tell everyone to relax would might not be accurate. There’s reason to be concerned in in Pittsburgh and I think he knows it too. Uh Pat Pat Frymouth said nobody’s missing by the way film sessions there. Um, and that everyone’s kind of hung up on on what Rogers said there. Uh, as opposed to him also saying after the game, everybody’s got to play better. I’ve got to play better. But the reax of the situation is removing what it’s looked like, five losses in seven games, and removing again their issues on offense in terms of the playmakers. I hammered this point the other day and repeating it here. It’s not great when, you know, Tony Romo is saying during the broadcast that some 300 pound tight end is their differencemaker on offense when they’ve got a $30 million receiver they’ve acquired in DK Metaf and a running back room that, you know, can get it done. I mean, there have been games where Jaylen Warren and Kenneth Gainwell had games, but that’s not what I mean, you know, Zack Ore isn’t, I don’t think, losing too much sleep this weekend in the defensive meeting rooms right now. I mean, who’s he circling? Got to stop this guy. Is Is it Darnell Washington? Is that who it is? I don’t even know how you scheme that. It’s just like And you know how you stop Washington? Like 19 hats to the ball. Like that’s it. Yeah. if he’s got it, you know, every no matter where you are on the field, you just got to make sure you’re there to try and tackle him because it’s a it’s a team effort. Yeah. And that’s that’s the issue here. But the honest truth is there are the horses on defense and I know they just had a billion yards rushing. They just gave up the most yards in this new stadium they’ve ever given up on the ground. And now here comes Derrick Henry. That’s That’s a problem. But there still are the guys in the room, right? I mean, uh uh there are guys in the room. And they did add Adam Adam Thelen and see if that might work in terms of adding another receiver to the equation, you know, an an an old guy, an old Ed with another one in Rogers. I bet you Rogers and Thelen will just sit down and go, “If I do this, this is what I’m going to ask you to do.” And Theanel’s like, “I got it. Yeah. And I kind of watched you from the sidelines twice a year. Um I’m I’m trying to be positive. I’m trying to be net positive here. One of your best qualities. I appreciate you saying that because at the end of the day, you are tied for the lead. You would with a win. Okay. In Baltimore, I understand you you would with a win here um take over first place. Yeah. with four games to go and come home and have a Monday night game against the Dolphins team and just hope it’s like 20° outside and good luck. Rogers has one last shot at the Lions in Detroit. Yeah, they could be reeling at that point. Cleveland and home for Baltimore. There there’s a path through here to go three and two and potentially if two of the three wins are against the Ravens or 4-2. You if you sweep the Ravens, I mean this Yeah, it feels like nine wins will get this done. Well, you even thought an overreaction Monday, eight and nine would get it done. It feels like eight’s probably going to get it done. So, okay. Like there’s no World Beaters except for potentially Joe Burrow coming from from Well, that’s the down the stretch. Okay. I’m just saying it’s it’s not like you’re in a situation like the Bengals are where you’re two behind, right? So that’s my rea I the the the fan base on the Eastern side of the state needs the chill pill. As I’ve said multiple times for the Eagles fans, there there’s a relax there. There’s a crossroads for both these teams. I think they no two ways about it. Um for sure. I mean, it’s but they do face each other again. There’s still a month to go and and it would be a heck of a tiebreak to go into the final game of the season saying we’ve already won the previous one. I mean, that that would be monster big. So, it’s a huge game and they hate each other and it’s a rivalry that’s awesome. arguably the best AFC rivalry. And I know I’m really treading in some deep waters there, but when the Ravens and Steelers play each other, crazy ass S happens and they can’t stand each other and it’s fun. Hey, you made it all the way to the end. Thanks for that. Check us out every single day streaming live on Disney Plus and the ESPN app 12 to 3 Eastern.

  1. Steelers are paying the price for mishandling 2019 when Ben got hurt in week three. They panicked and went all in to save the season giving up a first round pick for Minkah just to not go anywhere. Instead of just letting it ride and seeing what happened, they stayed middle of the road with a middle of the road draft pick while the Chargers got Justin Herbert. Zero long term thinking. Ben was near the end and they didn’t want to upset him but his injury should have been the bright flashing light saying “prepare for the future!”

  2. If the Steelers do make the playoffs, who are they going to beat???? Who's afraid of them????
One and done again. There in lies the problem.

    Fire Tomlin.

  3. I asked my aunt Annie, out of curiosity since im detached as a Seahawks fan, who is a diehard lived a couple miles from the facility Steelers fan and she has been as solemn faced as she's been in awhile about this team. Here's what she had to say:

This is a team that doesn't bottom out in the traditional sense yet the last few years, provides that same feeling while getting a pass by ownership. She's just downright frustrated with the fact they went from a team that went from actively challenging the best the AFC had to offer, to a team that actively gets a pass for going 9-8 without a plan at QB. They are more interested she said in putting up player banners (ie retiring numbers or having players jerseys hung in the halls of the main building as "lifer" players) then the actual SB banners this organization used to pride itself on. Now she said, they pride themselves on being in the middle instead of the top. They pay players for posters, not performance. Teams do not fear the terrible towel she still waves anymore. She quote "doesn't even want to beat the ratbirds (The Baltimore Ravens) THAT badly if it means putting up with another year of Tomlin led apathy; he can stick that standard of his where the sun don't shine and it'll be a better look for us." We used to be the bad boys; now all we're known for is how the inmates run the asylum.

Also as an aside she will not call it "Acrisure Field." Abject refuses to do so lol if that earns her any brownie points apparently. I don't know if I could express how dead her face looked when she told me to write this Rich.

  4. Im Pretty Sure PITTSBURGH Steelers here You Rich, but they are Fed Up with The Ultimate Result of not Winning Since 2016 to be exact was there last playoff win, in Pittsburgh Participation Trophys are for teams not used to Winning Lombardi Trophys, this has always been a "What have you done for me lately League", and Good/Great Coaches can go to Ask Andy Reid and Bill Belicheck, everyone loves Tomlin as a person and his Jedi mind Trick Quotes, but it mind be Time for a Nee Voice and thats not a bad thing it could work out for both sides Think Steelers Nation trust there hiring process cause they have been a model of stability in the Process

  5. I swear people cannot see past tomlins charisma and look at the facts. The national media doesn’t really follow the team so I can’t blame them. They see a cool dude who is a smooth talker with great sound bites and think wow he’s just so cool he has to be a good coach. Meanwhile most Steeler fans could write a novel about obvious issues with the team that refuse to be addressed by Tomlin and the organization. He’s been here for 20 years, it’s nothing personal we thank him for his service and efforts but he cannot fix the problems he created and we need someone new.

People keep saying who do you replace him with? It’s a loser mentality and evidence of a bad relationship and also proves the spell he has over people. There are many good coordinators in the league so in the same way we found him and the same way mostly every head coach is found we will find one of them again.

  6. Rich, you like him so much, step down and let him take your job especially since he wouldn't be good enough for your Jets or Michigan Wolverines. The media keeps saying Tomlin can have any job he wants, media job included 🙂

  7. Rich Eisen has been complicit in running cover for Mike Tomlin for over a decade. Rich waited until the end to finally start to tell the truth. But Rich can't just bring himself to admit that Mike Tomlin needs to go. Pathetic.

  8. The Packers-Seahawks Championship game was for the 2014 season. I think you have three guys in that room who all had a wrong answer to that. And the RELAX season was a couple years before that, I think.

  9. If the Steelers lose to the Ravens and again look flat, I would start Will Howard QB (The rookie) as they need to find out if Howard is Neo, or do they need to find a QB in the draft. I also believe the Steelers need to trade everybody over 30 years old for draft picks. This list includes Coach Tomlin, Watt and Heyward. Yes, this is a rebuild with some good young pieces already here on both sides of the ball. I also believe Tomlin has lost the Defense and maybe the Offense in the locker room. Same as last year, remember players suggesting this after losing the last 5 games. The Steelers need the 4th Head Coach since 1970.

  10. You don't get it Rich. I'd rather be your NY Jets with multiple and early first round picks the next few years than be stuck in football limbo being a retirement home for pro bowlers of past decades. Omar Khan is really looking bad after all. Also I dont know what the hell Tomlin coaches, you can see all around the league different coaching trees growing, and then Tomlin isolated and not evolving, he may be a great politician with all the crap he says, but he aint a great football coach.

  11. Terry bradshaw called it more than a decade ago. Everyone got mad or confused at his comments. It appears many owe him a apology. I've been off the tomlin bandwagon around the time tebow had his best nfl game and bounced the steelers 1st round. That and when he stepped on the field against the Ravens trying to be sneaky. Its fun being ahead of the curve and seeing people finally see what you saw 10+ years ago.

  12. Where were you Rich after the 11-0 collapse a decade ago. The coach and the team think that they are entertainment, and apparently have for a decade. Let’s be clear, in Pittsburgh, football is city-state warfare.

  13. Only 4 seasons in 18 has Tomlin won a playoff. He has lost 8 straight playoff games, the last 4 in humiliating fashion. Average coach, marginally better than Barry Switzer. His longevity is due to a lazy owner. Playoff wins stopped after Cowher's players aged out. What makes Tomlin great? Not offense. Not defense, his scheme is awful and this buttercream unit is historically bad.

We could DoorDash a better coach than this media creation fraud. Rich is utterly wrong to the point of sounding like a fool. Who cares if we win this crap division, this team is one and done.

FIRE Mike Tomlin! He is not good enough.
