The Houston Rockets just got GREAT NEWS… MASSIVE Rockets Updates | Houston Rockets News
The Houston Rockets just got great news as we have massive injury updates on both Dorian Phenise Smith and Tari Een and their returns to the H-Town lineup very very soon. We’ll get you all up to date right here right now on Rockets Digest. Welcome in everybody. I’m JC Andrews. We hope you’re having a great day and man, this is going to add to your great day hopefully as we got some fantastic news from head coach Eme Odoka and the Rockets organization on a couple of injury facets. Before that though, I want to remind you to hit that subscribe but notice that over 70% of you who watch these videos are not yet subscribed. So go down there, hit that subscribe button. It’s 100% free, first of all, and you’re going to be getting the best Rockets coverage on YouTube. I guarantee it. Let’s talk about the latest with the Houston Rockets. They have been absolutely fantastic this season, only losing back-to-back games one time, and of course, it was the first two games of the entire season. Obviously, the schedule is what it is, the record is what it is, and it’s really, really good. Only two losses since those back-to-back losses. And in terms of net rating, they are the second best team in the NBA. That is obviously a huge thing. Now, their net rating is a little bit above Denver, but it’s also a lot behind the Oklahoma City Thunder. That to be said, the Rockets have been missing some key contributors on their roster for one, the entire season, the other for um the past couple weeks now, since about November 14th. Tari E has been out of the lineup. And we have been waiting and waiting and waiting for injury updates, and we finally got some. Now, both these guys are very pivotal to the Houston Rockets success. DFS was a key free agent signing this off season and was expected to have a very huge role and when he got injured or had the ankle surgery and ultimately wasn’t able to start the season, we didn’t get too many updates. In fact, we got really like nothing and I want to kind of go to legit this is all we got for about a month. This was literally it. Quote, Finny Smith continues to rehab from offseason ankle surgery and remains without an official timetable to return. he can be considered week to week moving forward.” End quote. That’s it for a month. There was nothing, no reports. There was one video of him out on the court running around doing stuff, but ultimately it never amounted to any new reports. And so that injury was very hard for the Houston Rockets to handle. And it became even harder when Tari Een suffered an oblique injury that was going to keep him out for four to six weeks. And we were sitting here and hoping and waiting and saying, “Man, we we can get them back soon, right? We can get them back soon. Where is the updates? We’ve been waiting. We’ve been talking. We’ve been speculating. And finally, finally, we got some updates on both of these guys.” As here is Michael Shapiro saying, “Dorian Finny Smith now quote starting to ramp it up and quote with live action in practice. Houston eyes a January turn return for DFS. He hasn’t played in the 202526 season after ankle surgery. And Houston also hopes that Tara Een will return late this month before the new season or new year I should say. This is obviously some very very big news. Um we’re going to get to the official quote from Emodoka now on Dorian Finny Smith just because he’s the bigger one knowing he hasn’t played all season. Here’s what Emodoka had to say. quote just continuing to ramp it up. He’s getting non-cont work in and got to see how the ankle responds to an increase in the load there and so don’t really have a timeline end quote. This was obviously 2 days ago. Now we have the update that the expectation is that he can return in January at some time and that’s as close to his timetable as we’ve gotten since this injury occurred. Um, it’s been a real interesting couple of weeks and for DFS, I’m very excited to have him back and he hasn’t played with the Rockets. He hasn’t played with the Rockets yet at all. Obviously with Dallas, he spent a good majority of his time there, but most recently with Brooklyn and with LA. 8.7 points in the Lakers part of the season last year, 7.9 with the Brooklyn season. And then in 2023 2024, he had 10.4 four points per game with Brooklyn all season long. Adding him back to this roster is such a huge thing. But again, the big reason why his injury was made more pronounced was because of the injury to Tari E. And so for Tari, um it’s going to be an interesting set for him just because Ben Deose had the report here saying meanwhile fourth year forward Tari Een who hasn’t played since straining his right oblique on November 14th could return before the end of December. End quote. Looking at a calendar here, when they originally put out the report about Tory Een and his injury, they said it was going to be a four to six week six week timeline for his return. Um, as of right now, we’re closing in on about three full weeks of him being out. So, six weeks is probably where it’s going to end up being instead of the four-week mark. Maybe he can come back during that fifth week of the injury, but I would probably stand on the side of the Rockets are playing well, which they have been, they’re going to more play it safe than anything else. Um, it is interesting to see that he will hopefully come back in the near future. And uh Chari was a very good player for the time that we had him out there on the court when he was healthy. He had some very slow starts and that was um maybe part of the reason the Rockets didn’t perform well in games one and two against OKC and Detroit. But after that mark, he really did perform well, including in that Rockets win streak. And I would love to have him back just cuz not that I don’t trust anybody for the Rockets. I trust everybody, but for Jawn Tate and for some other guys, I really expect them to be depth pieces, not guys who were key rotational guys for the past couple weeks. And that’s no disrespect to JSawn Tater or anybody, but I just trust Tar East more, especially when he is going to be a restricted free agent after the season. I think he wants to be out there and playing as much as possible, too. So, for Tari E, what exactly can he bring back to the squad as opposed to him and DFS? Well, he’s got experience with this team. He does. And in the games that he did get to play this season, he averaged about 23 minutes per game, getting 11 points, 5.2 rebounds. Field goal percentage was a little low, but one thing that I did find interesting, he doesn’t shoot a lot of threes, but his three-point percentage was over 50% and was a very good sign. And this Rockets team, as we know, this season has been in a lot better set in terms of three-point shooting, which is something you expected or hope for given the departure of Jaylen Green um and adding in Kevin Durant. But the offense has really really taken a big bump. The defense on the other hand has gone down. I wouldn’t say a significant amount, but definitely a noticeable amount. The hope is that that defense can kind of revert back as we get deeper into the season using the double big, using Steven Adams more can help in that facet. But also Tari E, a very good defensive player, can come out here and help with that as well. in terms of the Houston Rockets and uh well looking at what the future is for Tari E. They want him back. I I think we have to make that very clear. He wants to play with the Rockets. The Rockets want him. They didn’t come to an agreement with the extension. I don’t know if it was Price. I don’t know if it was years. He is a restricted free agent next off season. The Rockets hopefully with a new CBA will have some extra money laying around and could easily keep him in a lot of ways. It’s going to need to be for the right price, but they also got a significant discount on Kevin Durant, but there’s also other contracts that are going to come into play with thinking about Aan Thompson, thinking about Reed Shepard. Obviously, they already locked down Jabari Smith. Alpron’s going to need some more money eventually. Obviously, it’s not a worry right now, but um soon enough it will be something they’ll start thinking about. So for Tari, he wants to get out there and play and prove that one if it’s for the Rockets that he deserves to play here slash they want to keep him or if hopefully it’s not this way, but if it is this way where he’s playing to get a contract somewhere else, same principle applies. He’s got to be out there and prove that he can be healthy because again uh 57 games last year, 11 games this year, 22 games in 2023, 2024. being out there for a significant amount of the season. Um, meeting that awards cut off is obviously something that people like to quote and talk about. So, it’s it’s getting to that line and um, obviously pairing him and allowing him to learn from Kevin Durant is a very good thing as well. Jabari is the main guy that I see learning from KD, but uh, Tari can also get a lot of learning in. And again, adding both those guys back when you already have a second best net rating in the league at about 11, you’re probably talking about the potential for you to compete with the Oklahoma City Thunder and they have one loss this season and you were a free throw away, a second away, a a couple of stupid plays and had a 12-point lead at one point from being that other loss. you’ll get to play him again and I expect a very good fun matchup, but man oh man, you get those two back, it changes the complexity of this team. To be fair to Oklahoma City, they also didn’t have JDub or Jaylen Williams, but this is also an addition for the Rockets as well. That’s all we got for you here today on Rockets Digest. We do appreciate you watching and hanging out with us on the show. We’re going to see you next time here. Peace out, everybody.
