The Wall Of St. Paul 🤩

There are few NHL storylines I love more than a rookie goalie sensation. So, let’s talk about the wall of St. Paul. Yes, for Volstead. And it’s Kale Mar against Volstead. Save by Volstead. And it’s a win for the Wild. With Flurry now retired, Volstead is finally getting a shot in the NHL. And he is proving that the future is extremely bright in the Minnesota Crease. His most recent win was a 33 save shutout in a one- nothing win over the Oilers. And with that, he earned his fourth shutout in his last six starts, making him the first rookie goalender in 87 years to record four shutouts in a six-game span. He’s 800 and2 in his 10 games played this season, and he’s currently leading the NHL in shutouts, goals against average, and save percentage. He was named the NHL’s rookie of the month in November and is putting up historic numbers for someone who’s only played 15 games in the NHL. It’s still early in the season and we know it is not easy for any goalender to sustain such a high level of play, but Volstead is clearly playing his way well into the Calder conversation. And if he continues to stand on his head, he should absolutely be in the conversation to represent Sweden in Milan alongside Minnesota teammate Philip Gustoson. He’s confident, he’s having fun, his win sies are outstanding, and he is someone to watch as the season continues.

  1. I'm not sure most people understand how incredible these stats are for a rookie goaltender. Now he just needs some help offensively otherwise it'll be a first round exit in the playoffs.
