The Eagles are trying to FORCE this move.. and it’s working!
A few things are happening in Philadelphia today that most of us did not expect even 24 hours ago. But the Darius Slay Dream died and yet suddenly has come back to life in a very interesting way. Plus, my Vanjo might be turning to the vanilla gorilla with Jaylen Carter officially banged up. Oh, and what Justin Herbert said on Wednesday that further puts his status for Monday night in doubt. Although Jason Kelsey is begging Chem Batulo to do this with Jaylen Herz Thomas. This is it’s my fun show. Disappointment is a word that might best describe the current state of everybody inside Philadelphia this week as a brutal two-game losing streak paired with both offensive and defensive struggles continue to loom. Plus, the recent waiverwire failures are all starting to add up. And yet, right now, all might not be lost on all three fronts. Philadelphia is reportedly making some key moves on defense or promising something on offense we’ve all been begging for. As for Darius Slay, the curtain might not officially be closed on his return. At least not just yet. First, it’s your second and final opportunity to enter the Birds Apparel Nike handstitched hoodie giveaway. This bad boy right here happening on my Saturday show. So, drop a like, show ahead to subscribe, and comment goss down below to make sure you’re entered. Plus, right now, the Wave One Sports Guys, guys behind the Birds Apparel, are giving everybody watching my show a free Kelly Green pompom hat worth up to $32 with any purchase on their website over 100. Just use my code real at checkout. I’ll link it all down below. Honestly, I wear this hoodie all the time. It’s fantastic. All their stuff though, super high quality, handstitched, key factor, their vintage Birds apparel. Trust me, you’ll love it. I’ll link it down below. Check it out today. Now, let’s start with the most exciting news of maybe the week, and that was the potential return of cornerback Darius Sllay was released by the Steelers on Monday and had to clear waiverss, but reports saying he wanted to come back to Philadelphia. And well, this morning we did find out officially the birds did put a waiver claim in. They were trying to bring back Darius Slay. However, the Buffalo Bills were just a few slots ahead of them on the waiver wire and officially grabbed the veteran quarterback. And so that was it. Tough luck. I thought Philadelphia was done. And yet, there’s a new report this morning that Darius Slay, Buffalo, and Philadelphia, it all might still be in play. It started with some fans on Twitter quick to point out that Dary Slay technically could refuse to play for the Bills, then go back on waiverss and hopefully make it to Philadelphia. despite how crazy that would seemingly be. Inquire insider Jeff Mlan he seemed to back that theory when he said last night on a quote tweet he believes there’s a possibility. And then a few hours ago this morning, Darius Slay’s wife Jennifer on Twitter tweeted, “Be great today with a Kelly green heart.” And later on the same tweet replied to a picture of Darius Slay in Eagles uniform with a caption, quote, “Mood.” And well, all this appears to be the case this afternoon. As according to Tom Pelisero just a couple of hours ago, Darius Slay told the Buffalo Bills he will not report after being claimed and is contemplating retirement. Aka Mlan might actually be right and Slay is doing whatever he possibly can to force his way to Philadelphia which Andy Deona really great point here. Noted legit all this could happen because Darius Slay is repped by the high-powered agent Drew Rosenhouse. While Buffalo technically does not have to comply with anything Slay or Rosenhouse wants, having the backing of a powerful agent in the NFL makes things a little tricky. I personally gonna go on a limb here and say Slay obviously wants to come to Philadelphia and it looks like he’s probably going to get his wish. Now of course when it comes to Philadelphia this year we can’t just have good news as what do you know some bad news just broke this afternoon that Jaylen Carter underwent surgery on both of his shoulders earlier in the week officially out for Monday night’s match up with the LA Chargers which I don’t need to tell you it’s a major blow. This is terrible. Like we’ve seen Jaylen Carter not play in a game to start the season. The Birds run defense was atrocious verse Dallas but even recently vers the Bears. The birds run defense with Carter was also atrocious. Now it appears JC’s poor play had a lot more to do with his shoulders than him suddenly being washed. The real question today though is how long will Carter be out? Zach Shepter noted this could be a multi-week absence, but he will not be put on injury reserve and will stay officially week to week. More reports confirming Carter wants to get as close to 100% for the birds playoff run. So it sure sounds like we won’t see JC for at least the next couple of weeks. The one bright spot here, if there is one, is maybe if he can get back to 100%, he’ll be back to his usual game wrecker self that we haven’t seen the past couple of weeks, that could be a massive boost for the Birds playoff run if they, of course, make the playoffs. Obviously though, either way, major blow. This does mean the defensive line, it’s going to have to step up in a major way. We’re going to find out real quick if any of them are able to do that. Now, for all those asking, Thomas, if Julian Carter is a little bit banged up and the Eagles defense is gassed, they need fresh bodies, why has the vanilla gorilla Tyro Robinson been a healthy scratch? basically all year. To which I’d say, honestly, no idea. Maybe he’s not ready. And that might be true. However, somebody asked it during Vic Fangelo’s press conference yesterday, and it sure sounds like we could be seeing the vanilla gorilla finally on Monday night with Jaylen Carter dealing with the shoulder. Is it possible that Ty Robinson might factor more into the rotation there? Possible. Also want to give a massive shout out to the sponsor of his video, Bullstrap. Now, of course, the holidays, they’re right around the corner. And if you’re like me, just got a brand new iPhone 17 Pro. Love this thing, but you want to protect it. Bullstraps 100% premium leather cases have been an absolute game changer. Personally, I’ve been using this bad boy right here. This is the minimalist black edition case because obviously I like black. Black leather looks incredible, but I also prefer a slim case. I want it as slim as humanly possible. And this minimalist case is literally the perfect size. Plus, each bullstrap case is Mag Safe compatible, which is great. Just go right there onto my charger and also covered by a lifetime warranty. And all of which are handcrafted by a leather artisan. Plus, if you want other options, they sent me this slate portfolio case. Put some credit cards back here, your ID, whatever you want. And they have accessories for your iPad, your AirPods, and of course, even Android devices. And for you Green Text Android lovers, you know who you are. They now offer the newly released case for the Samsung S25 Ultra as well. And of course, you’re probably wondering, Thomas, discount code, what do you got? 15% off. A pretty big one. Use the code THM15 on the screen. Also link it down below in my description box. 15% off. Check out their cases. Telling you, look how slim that is. The leather is incredible. I love it. You guys will, too. Now, moving on. There seems to be no chance for Sydney Brown to continue to be the Philadelphia Eagles starting safety, or at least a very slim one following his very unenthusiastic performance for Chicago on Friday. Left a Fanjo yesterday during his first press conference this week, seemingly not too thrilled. Uh, it was a lot like the rest of us, you know, some good, some bad. And of course, you pair that with the real kicker this week, and that is the return of safety Marcus EPS. The Philadelphia added about a month ago and then very quickly sent to IR, never to be heard again. And yet now, Philadelphia’s activated him. And the former Eagles starter during their 2022 Super Bowl run appears to be in line to start this coming Monday night, is according to the man actually making the decisions. Do you think he’s going to be ready for Monday? Is he in contention to start? He is. And at one point, he was your third safety. What did you like about it? Yeah. Yes to the first two. Um and three, you know, he’s an experienced safety. He’s got good instincts, got good feel for the game. Um we’ll have to get a feel and a barometer, but where he’s at missing the last four or five weeks, whatever it was, you know, where he couldn’t practice anyway. Does Marcus steps make a difference for this defense? Honestly, I don’t know. But at a minimum, I think he might be a little bit more under control than Cindy Brown was versus the Bears, which who knows could help. We’ll see. Now, one other quick defensive note here before I move on. Despite the fact the entire defense looked gashed, they got roll versus the Bears looked exhausted. They needed a break, Big Fan actually ended up not playing rookie linebacker Jiad Campbell for a single snap the entire afternoon. He literally did not see the field, which Fanjo himself did admit during his press conference was a mistake despite the fact that Kobe Dean has been better against the run this year. Probably should have gotten him in there for a few that, you know, that’d be my fault there. But, you know, obviously with the run game the way it was happening and that’s been a strength of Nico’s, um, we wanted to leave him in there. Listen, I get it. Nico Dean, he has been better. He should play much, much more, but Campbell was no slouch filling in back when Dean was still on the pup list. He has a very bright future, whether you want to admit it or not. Making sure he continues to get linebacker snaps on the field, even if they’re limited, is still very important long term for the Eagle defense. And I think Vic Fangio finally understands that. And whether or not he plays 10 snaps versus the Chargers or 15 or 20 or zero again, it shouldn’t matter because what really does matter is just get the best guys out there to win verse Justin Herbert and the Chargers on Monday night. And of course, the question here on a Thursday is will we actually see Justin Herbert play? Is he going to practice today? That remains to be seen. However, he did make his first official appearance in front of LA Media on Wednesday posts surgery, but did make sure to keep that left hand hidden so nobody could see its current state. And during that press conference, Herbert told the media he has a few new screws and a plate inside set hand. And the main problem right now continues to be the swelling post surgery. Yeah. Uh yeah, I think it was a plate and a and a few screws. So um I don’t know the exact medical terminology or or what exactly went on, but uh you know, he said it went well and got it stabilized and and he was happy with how it went. It’s just the next couple days of seeing how the swelling handles and and what goes on from there. And that’s the main question the next couple of days leading into Monday night. How’s the swelling? Is the left hand super swollen? How’s the grip strength? He just had surgery. And I think that people are overlooking the fact that if the swelling does not go down, no matter how good it feels or how well he can actually grip a football, he’s not going to go ahead and play. Which actually is both a blessing and kind of a curse for Vic Fanjo’s unit this week at practice. Is have to prep for both Herbert and Trey Lance in a scenario that one or both of them play or it’s just Herbert or just Lance? Yeah, we’ll have to prepare for both quarterbacks. um probably knowing that if Herbert plays he’ll be in the pistol a lot and in the gun. Um but yeah, we’ll have to be ready for both. And all this Herbert talk actually makes the update yesterday on Marian Hampton a little bit, I would say, better for Philadelphia because yes, the rookie running back was at practice on Wednesday and is expected to play. However, if Herbert does play as well, like we’ve talked about, the Chargers ability to disguise said running looks on top of play action passes could make things at least somewhat easier on the Birds defense. Well, I think anytime, you know, you’re under center, it does help some of your play pass game as far as the defense um diagnosing it or not. You know, when they’re in the gun, it it’s a little bit easier, but not significantly. But just being under center, I think puts a little bit more indecision for the defense. All in all, the Chargers this season are a very, very strange A-win team. Like, they just blew out the horrible Raiders. That’s fine. But that was a week after being blown out by the suspect Jaguars. And again, despite said eight wins, only one of those have come against a team with an over 500 record as we stand today. That was Denver week three. Their seven other wins are against the Chiefs, Raiders, Dolphins, Vikings, Titans, and Steelers. not exactly the cream of the crop in the NFL. Now, moving over to the offense and yes, we had a Vic Fanjo press conference. That means a Kempulo press conference. And once again, Kempulo didn’t say a lot. Whereas Vic Fanjo gave us all that information I just shared with you. Kempulo, he really had one little take that I thought at least was interesting heading into Monday night. Patulo continues to beounded by the Philadelphia media about running Jaylen Herz more and more each week. And while he says each week he’s going to do it, this week though maybe could be a little bit different. I think, you know, we’ve talked about this before. I think as we go forward, you know, he he’s going to continue to be a part of the offense and some of these design runs, and we just have to pick and choose when they’re available. Um, and and when they present themselves, and sometimes they do in moments, and he’s done it the last couple weeks, and we just got to continue to lean into that. Why is everybody harping on Jaylen running more so much seemingly every single week? Well, I think the simple answer is a, it works every single time he does in their lone good drive versus the Bears started via a long Jaylen Herz quarterback run. And yet B, that same game on Friday was Jaylen’s first game all season where he did not scramble technically once. And on the year as a whole, his scrambling, aka his running, is down almost 4% from the past seasons. I would like to see them do more runs. I’m not going to lie. I wanted to see that last week, too. Um, I think that it will keep defenses honest even more so. So when you do not when you’re just doing a regular tailback run, uh, those will be more effective. You get such better angles. the numbers are better. It’s it it makes life easy. It’s almost like cheating. And it’s been a big reason why the Eagles have been successful on the ground game throughout Herz’s tenure. I mean, we’ve been one of the best rushing teams in the league throughout that time. And a lot a lot of this Jaylen has never gotten enough credit for it. And we’re seeing it this year as that has pulled back. It has become very very hard. Uh those spaces shrink down. The ends don’t honor it as much. You know, Chicago uh keeps the ends honest by doing bootlegs and things like that, right? We used to keep it honest with the reads and the threat that all of a sudden we could do a quarterback design run. You can’t just chase this thing down. And um that’s what you’re looking for on the other run plays. How do we protect him? And a quarterback run is a great way to protect those as well as develop explosives. And so to me, it’s pretty simple. Yes, we’re harping on Jill Herz’s running. We’re also harping on the offense as a whole. the passing game looking a little different, but which is easier for Kevin Patulo to actually fix. He seemingly cannot call anything but hitch routes on offense. And even though we want him to change that, he refuses to do it. But calling designed quarterback runs or getting Jill Herz out of the pocket to scramble more, it technically could be easier for KP. And so here we are begging for any sort of change and starting with the easiest of all of them and that is running Jillian Herz just a little bit more. And this week it should be no different. Mahomes, Bon Knicks, Jackson Dart, Jane Daniels, all had successful running games versus the Chargers this year. Clearly, we need to see it from Jaylen Herz on Monday night. And hopefully KP he figures it out. Now, of course, plenty more stuff happening the next couple of days and weeks preview show on Saturday, where I will also announce the winner of the Birds Apparel hoodie, which you see me wearing right here. Love this thing. I’m telling you, the quality is what makes a difference. Like, there’s a ton of different hoodies out there. Most don’t fit well. Most don’t have great material. Most aren’t handstitched. These are all of them. Plus the $32 pom- pom hat you get for free when you use my promo code realm at checkout linked all down below. It’s worth it. Check it out. Pick up a hoodie. Let me know if you do. And of course, stay tuned to see if you win on Saturday as well. Plenty more stuff happen the next couple of days and weeks as we look forward to playing Herbert or Trey Lance. You know, we’ll see. Thomas SM. This is Ben.

The Eagles’ news is wild today, with crazy updates on both Jalen Carter and Darius Slay. First, Carter underwent surgery this week on both of his shoulders and is officially out vs the Chargers on Monday night. However, Carter is expected to return before the playoffs and be much closer to 100% than he was the past few months. Moving on to Slay and despite the Bills claiming him off waivers, the big update today is that Slay has refused to play for Buffalo and could be forcing his way to the Eagles. Multiple reports are suggesting Slay and Philadelphia both want this signing to happen as the weekend quickly approaches. Also, hear the latest injury update for Justin Herbert, plus why Ty Robinson and Marcus Epps might be getting their shot vs the Chargers. Tons of Eagles news and rumors on today’s show.
