If you wonder what Hughes is waiting for to acquire a 2C…
December 5, 2025
… Think about this tweet and wonder about how much of a seller's market we are in right now. Very few teams actively tanking or even retooling. Asking prices must be insane.

Given his already impressive performance as GM, I’m happy to wait as long as Kent would like
For St. Louis to not ask for the moon, probably
ANA, OTT, TOR, NJD, PIT, NYR and EDM are not there looking for a 2C.
We are rebuilding dude, this isn’t the year to make a big trade in-season.
I’m dumb. Who are we scouting here?
I’ve chosen to firmly believe we have no rush because Crosby is coming after the Olympics.
Let me have my optimism in one corner of life.
Some team is gonna pay a disgusting price for Nick Bjugstad.
Surement aucun lien avec le fait que le ch joue contre st-louis dimanche 😅
Montembeault (1 more year at 3.5M) straight up for Binnington (2 more at 6M)
At this point just wait until Hage is ready for 2C
the last time a top 6 centre was traded for cheap was when the guy needed a neck surgery
it’s was expensive last year, it is expensive this year, and it will be expensive next year
This is going to restart the Kyrou talk
As Lapierre said tonight, we have best rookie pointer and best rookie scorer right now. If he plays like this the whole season, I’d rather look into a 2nd line LW right now to play with them and throw a curve ball at everyone and then wait for Hage and see who’s the 2nd and who’s the 3rd. Exact time of his comment. [https://youtu.be/UVapveZsL9M?t=230](https://youtu.be/UVapveZsL9M?t=230)
I really hope we do not do a stupid move like overpay , we are not contenders and barely playoffs contenders , lets not do a mapleleafs or rangers type move please
Y’all are forgetting we have Joe Veleno. Number 2 center potential right there.
Boston is in a playoffs spot right now despite injuries. I doubt they’re looking to sell. They have the 2nd highest payroll, so I also doubt they’re looking to buy.
So STL is probably the target party here. 3 pts out of last in the entire League, lot of 30+ yrs old players, a bunch of big contracts to players not pushing the needle but otherwise little invested long term.
They don’t really have any significant rentals to sell though.
Also still a bit early to sort sellers from buyers. The last teams in each Conference are just 7-8 pts out of a wildcard spot.
There’s not much we can do with St Louis.
Schenn fits a need and would relieve some cap space for them. He’s also their captain and likely moved if they do intend to retool.
It’s not an “attractive” move due to his age and decreased production, but it could be an economical one. Depends on the price to acquire.
For Kyrou I can’t see what we’d be willing to offer that they would accept. We took our crack at him in the summer and couldn’t figure it out then, don’t think anything significant has changed since.
For Boston Zacha was interesting, but they are in better shape than they thought. Do they keep him and retool? Either way he’d be an overpay now or a trade closer to the deadline.
Pavel Zacha, welcome to Montréal.
There it is. The perennial “lots of scouts so a trade is cooking up”
Bolduc, Texier, Blais… we really like to take recent Blues players.
St. Louis is not moving Thomas. Schenn will be in play though. Just don’t want to overpay for anyone. We are not ready for that moment yet.
