McDonagh Extended by Tampa, Dallas Stars are Road Warriors, Injury News

Welcome back. All right, news of the day video for all you fine people on the internet. It is Thursday. It is December the 4th. Um, I’m also I’m wearing a a jersey I just received. So, cuz I know people are going to say they haven’t seen it on me before, but this is the brand new Texas Stars third jersey. Not too bad. So, I ordered this a while ago. Got it today. So, I figured I wear it for the news video because Dallas is at the top of the board. Why is Dallas at the top of the board? Glad you asked. Uh with last night’s win over New Jersey, they extend their road point streak to a team record, 12 games. Uh it’s been an insane run for the Dallas Stars this season after I I thought both Dallas and Colorado weren’t playing up to their their potential in the first couple of to three weeks of the season and then they’ve just absolutely shot straight up. So Dallas obviously being overshadowed by Colorado. Totally understandable. I totally get that. but they are the one of the better second best teams in the NHL that I can remember. Uh Ryan Mcdana, he’s going to be staying in Tampa. So, uh I think this is a very teamfriendly contract to be honest. It’s a three-year contract for Ryan Mcdana. The cap hit $4.1 million considering where the cap is going. Uh yeah, I think $4.1 million completely reasonable for Mcdana and it basically guarantees he finishes his career as a member of the Tampa Bay Lightning. He’s been out for a while with injury. Tampa’s doing all right without him, but uh they’re better with it with him than without him. So Mcdana signing that extension. Great news for him. Great news for the Lightning as well as for their fans. Uh Vaselvk’s scratched for today. So they’ve recalled Halverson. Doesn’t sound like it’s anything major. Sounds like he just needs the night off. Uh he is expected to play Saturday is Vaselvki. So we’ll see if that’s the case. But that does mean that Johansson uh will likely be the goalender tonight for the Lightning. while Vaselvski gets to be scratched and just, you know, relax and and heal up whatever it is that’s bothering him at this point and time in the season. Uh, the Vancouver Conucks have recalled Tolopilo. They’ve also recalled Elias Patterson, DPD, as he’s known locally. Uh, I and I’ll say this having watched the Abbottzford game last night. Patterson’s zone exits are excellent. I I I think Elias Patterson’s own exits are good. And I think Toolo is a good goalender. Like, everybody gets mad that she loves this gun. Oh, she loves and and I get it. I do. But I think Toapilo has some potential there as well. And so they get called up. Peter gets sent back down to Abbottzford. So um it may very well just be a paper transaction of sorts in that of course Peter has to be in Abbottzford for at least one game, but calling up Topillo and Patterson. Uh we’ll see if if they get into the lineup. Uh Holander spotted in a regular jersey at practice today, so that’s good news. He’s close to a return. Uh Garland in a no contact jersey at practice, which is less encouraging. Uh Demco also spotted at practice today as well. So the Canucks are looking like they’re getting healthier. We’ll see if that does end up actually being the case just cuz I I always when somebody comes back, I expect somebody else to get hurt. So we’ll see. Uh but getting Hoglander back could help the Vancouver Conucks a lot. Hoglander’s a good I mean should probably be a third line forward but with the Canucks and the struggles they’ve been having I say be just inject him into that top six and see if his energy can get them going. Uh Drew Dowy could return tonight for the Kings against Chicago. He’s been out for a while. Uh Dowy good defenseman who is looking to make team Canada. I don’t know that he does. I have a funny feeling that Dowy probably falls short of the dream of playing at the Olympics for team Canada. But if you’re an LA Kings fan, that might be okay cuz then he has that 3 weeks of of rest. And then when you come back after the Olympic break, everybody’s fresh and good to go. And the Kings could be a dangerous team coming out of an Olympic break. There’s a lot of veteran players there that could really benefit from having those few weeks off. Um if they’re not going to the Olympics, we know some of them are going to be going to the Olympics, right? Uh Travis Green uh talking about Thomas Shabbat says that he’s going to be out for another 10 days. So not fantastic news for Ottawa. Uh the Sands of course flirting with that playoff line, sometimes above, sometimes below uh in the recent weeks. Uh they will be without Eller and Zub tonight against the Rangers as well as of course Shabbat. So um not having Zub in the lineup is is going to hurt, but the Ottawa Senators have been dealing with injuries the whole season as many teams have. And so without Eller and Zub, we’ll see who jumps up and who makes the difference for them tonight against New York. Uh Carell Marenko is set to return tonight against the Detroit Red Wings. Uh Columbus is one of those teams that’s in an interesting spot in the East. Could absolutely end up making the playoffs. Um could then also miss and we could have a whole storyline about Columbus and how when are they going to get back to the playoffs, that kind of thing. Uh I I may do a video on today on on on teams that are below the playoff line. We’ll see. But I may may do something on that. Uh, Morazzic dealing with a lower body injury for Anaheim. He’s out two to three weeks and Dost Stal’s out for another week or two. So, last night’s result not encouraging. If you’re an Anaheim fan, of course, you have to kind of hope that’s a one-off, but it is going to be net for the next week or two. And the Anaheim Ducks, the Anaheim Ducks already having lost seven of their last 11, they just they need a little bit of something to turn this around. Uh they are a young team, you know, they’re going to go through their struggles. Uh this may very well be what they’re dealing with uh for for the next little bit. Maybe when Dole gets back, they turn things around. Uh hopefully he’s back in a week rather than two weeks, right? Uh Cam York dealing with an upper body injury for the Flyers. He is dayto-day. Um that game between them and Buffalo last night got pretty heated. Apparently, there was a hit by Dene late in the second period that they didn’t like. He got five in a game for that. Uh, I was waiting a little bit this morning to see if there was anything from Department of Player Safety. There has not been, so I’m guessing there probably won’t be. Uh, but yeah, York’s day today for the Philadelphia Flyers. Um, they should be fine while he’s out with an upper body injury. Uh, the Evans Oilers, Pickard starting tonight against Seattle, so Skinner gets the night off. Uh, Pickard’s numbers have not been great this season, but his win loss record isn’t terrible. And for the Edmonton Oilers, one storyline that’s starting to get more attention, and I noticed an article on SportsNet, so I wanted to talk about this, is Trent Frederick’s struggles. Trent Frederick’s only 27 years of age, but those years he played in Boston, those are some hard years. And honestly, the style of hockey he played with all the hitting and the energy and all that, it can be tough as you get older. Uh, and I I I think that’s probably at least a small part of it. Uh but that contract extension when he signed it with the Oilers, I was very concerned that that might be too much money for too much time. And so far, Frederick has had his struggles. He’s now been, you know, demoted to the fourth line. He’s playing less than 10 minutes a game. Uh it is not a contract that has aged particularly well for Stan Bowman and the Oilers, a team that desperately needs cap space at this point and time. Uh Charlie Makavoy at Morning Skate for the Boston Bruins today. Uh doesn’t look like he’s close to a return, but hey, being on the ice at practice. Good, good to see. Uh Callahan’s been placed on the injured reserve. Victor Solderstrom has been recalled from the AHL and he’s going in the lineup for the Boston Bruins tonight. So Solderstrom makes his Boston Bruins debut tonight. That should be interesting to see how that goes. Uh that was seen as a potential uh fantastic move by Don Sweeney in the offseason when they picked him up, especially for so cheap. So, we’ll see whether or not Solderstrom makes a difference and ends up carving out a spot for himself as one of the main six blue liners for the Boston Bruins. Uh, Wedgewood is not available tonight for Colorado. So, Blackwood’s going to get the start. Um, I’m guessing Miner then will be the backup. Correct. Uh, Wedgewood not being available. It it doesn’t sound like it’s anything that’s going to keep him out long term. Um the interesting thing was I did see that like they’re they’re saying it’s his back and I’m thinking well he did carry the team for a bit in net while Blackwood was out so it makes sense his back might hurt. Uh but either way uh Blackwood gets the start tonight. I’ve talked before Blackwood’s just as good as Wedgwood that you don’t see any drop off in play. In fact’s advanced numbers have been fantastic. So I I I think this kind of makes them stronger. though only the ABS could have injuries and go, you know, we might be a little bit stronger now, just a little bit than we were a few weeks ago. Even with the injuries, uh, sort of uh got hurt in last night’s victory over the San Jose Sharks for the Capitals. Uh, dealing with a lower body injury, it sounds like it could be a couple of weeks. Just the way it’s being phrased, he’s going to miss some time. It’s not seen as long term. Maybe he’s going to be out for a couple of weeks. The good news being, of course, Sort of is on the fourth line and Washington has depth. They’ll be fine. um wall sort of is out. So, uh probably only out for a couple of weeks and the Washington Capitals who currently have I think it’s a six-game winning streak going on. Yeah, they’re playing really, really well right now. Uh Ricard Raquel, an update on Ricard Raquel’s condition. He’s been out for a while. Apparently, he is set to return for the Pittsburgh Penguins in 3 to four weeks. So, we have an end date when he should be back in roughly a month’s time. Uh Raquel, fantastic forward, who was off to a really good start. This is interesting with Pittsburgh, their good start. uh Raquel and Brazo were parts of that and I think part of Pittsburgh’s struggles over the last month have been related to some injuries. Just the key guys, just the the exact guys that get hurt that you don’t want to see if you’re a Penguin fan. So, Raquel coming back in a few weeks. Brazo is almost ready to come back. He may very well be playing in their next game. So, yeah, uh things are getting better for Pittsburgh in terms of injuries. Uh last night’s win by Utah over Anaheim also featured Bear Hayden being as a healthy scratch. Uh Hayden might be one to watch and see if Utah makes him available. He’s a center. He’s not that old, so he’s still young enough to attract some interest. And for a Utah team that might need to shake things up at least a little bit to stay above the playoff line, maybe they make Hayden available. When when a young player is is being healthy scratch this far into their career, it’s always an option that maybe that player becomes available and maybe a general manager sees that he’s a healthy scratch and makes a phone call. It’s like, “Hey, so I noticed this guy’s not playing. Is he available?” And then the conversation can go from there. 1. Now here's why I think the Stars are so good on the road. When they hear the opposing fans cheer against them, it sends that certain fuel coursing through their veins that motivates them to play even harder in any hostile environment. They're literally addicted to the bummed, sad faces and tears that happen when we break their hearts. What makes this team different is that no matter where they play, they've got fire in their hearts and ice in their veins. So in conclusion, Jake Oettinger should start in net for Team USA. Starsforever❤

  2. I’m really suprised by Dallas stars this season. They’ve had so many lost to injury but still killing it. Desmith the back up goalie is freaking SOLID I love him in net, the moose is an assist machine and robo is on fire also the energy the kids line brings is so helpful. I’ve been waiting for the drop off due to injury but it hasn’t happened. I love their defensive style this year. How many epic wars has Dallas and Colorado been in since the late 90s to now, what a rivalry !

  3. The Canucks have 10 injuries and of those, 7 would have been in the opening night line-up if the team were 100% healthy.

I believe they are the most injured team in the league right now.

  4. It's almost criminal having Colorado and Dallas in the same division, where they'll probably meet in the first couple rounds again, destroy each other, and whatever weakened team is vulnerable to being picked off in the next round.

  5. Hey Shannon, not sure if you care about soccer but the Vancouver whitecaps are in the MLS final against Miami. Thought id share.

  6. You know Tampa is cooked when they have to sign a 36 year old to a 3 year extension lol. His main value on the ice now is to block a lot of shots… but they had a guy called Sergachev at one point who did a better job of doing that lol

  7. meh for the Stars. The point system needs to go back to what it was for many decades before they changed it. You shouldn't get a point merely for getting to OT, you should get a point for surviving it. Before you only got a point for the tie after OT. Losers didn't get nothing. Yet more of this "Lets promote mediocrity" NHL business strategy.(rolling eyes)
