The Indianapolis Colts’ Secret Weapon Is BACK… and He’s a Problem!

The Colts are about to get one of the most dynamic players who we have yet to his full potential. Finally back to start the season. This is a guy who I was so excited to plugged into a room defense. We’re going to cover all that and more on this video. What’s going on Elijah from where we cover all things Colts whether it’s behind the scenes breaking news. Now go back to 2024. There was a guy th this was a defensive draft at Latu followed by Mack Gonzalez, Tanner Bordellini. although there’s two offensive linemen, but immediately following that was the stretch of the Jaylen’s, uh, which is Jaylen Simpson, Jaylen Carly’s, and then Micah Abraham. Now, obviously, we know how it worked out for the other for Micah Abraham and Jaylen Simpson, but there was one guy that was always incredibly intriguing. This is a guy who the Colts drafted as a safety and immediately converted into being a linebacker, and that is Jaylen Carly’s. Jaylen Carly’s um played a majority of last season and has looked really good. This is honestly one of the more impressive that I think if this is able to work, I think this is going to be a guy who truly is going to to be remarkable in this defense, especially given the recent additions of Jarius Ward, Cam Binham, and obviously S Gardner. But let’s look at the the draft combine for this guy. I mean, this guy’s only got two years worth, and he hasn’t even been able to play yet this season. You’ve got a 40-yard dash of 4.5 seconds, a 10 yard splint of 1.54 seconds, vertical jump of 32.5, and a broad jump of 10’5 in. All of that looks great, but when you consider the fact that this is a safety that has now been converted into playing linebacker, the biggest thing that the Colts have struggled with this season and for the last several seasons is the linebackers are are good, but they have never been great as pass coverage since we lost uh Shaquille Leonard. This guy provides the opportunity for a safety turn linebacker that has speed, that has athleticism, um, and has all of the ability to be a pass coverage, but also with the ability of being a linebacker. Now, when you look at this guy’s tape in in what he’s done in college and even what he’s already done in the short NFL career, his tackling is immaculate. His coverage is very good. The Colts could use a guy like this in the middle, especially with them running a two linebacker set. Now, that being said, Jermaine Pratt has played fantastic this season. Uh has truly earned his spot as one of the premier linebackers in especially in the past several weeks, especially in run defense. But in past situations of which the Colts need a guy who can drop back into coverage, it’s not going to be Zier Franklin. That’s just not his strength. He has a million other strengths, but falling back into pass coverage is not and has never been Zier Franklin strength. to throw in a guy like Jaylen Carly’s provides so many opportunities for Zire Franklin to be able to go around to drop in or to to apply pressure on the quarterback, even to provide um that dump off, you know, that dump off coverage. Jaylen Carly provides the opportunity for guys like slot wide receivers and tight ends. This is the type of player that the Colts have needed so desperately on this team. Now, he has been out a majority of this season and is just now able he was a full participant all week last week. He was designated to return on November 19th. So, that being said, if he is going to play, it has to be this weekend. Otherwise, he will have to spend the rest of the season back on the injured reserve. But all signs point again. He was a full participant Wednesday, Thursday, Friday of last week. He’s been a full participant Wednesday and Thursday. all science point to us finally getting to see what this guy looks like in a Lu Anorumo defense. Having a guy with multiple abilities like this. Having a guy who’s not going to be just your standard in a in a mastermind like Shane Stiken and Lonarumo is exactly what you want. This is a perfect matchup and I really really am excited to see it. This is a guy who’s 6’3, 227, uh 34 and a quarter arm length and and honestly was he was around five pick 16. I don’t think anyone understood if you follow this guy for any amount of time, no one understood how he dropped so far back. And I think it was because as a safety, he’s good, but if you d if you switch him to a linebacker, he’s great. The guys that went around him, I mean, there there it’s not a lot of guys that are are known. In fact, this was the Colts second pick in the fifth round drafting Anthony Gould before that um being pick seven of round five. So 142 and they dropped back all the way down to uh Jaylen Carly’s. And funny story, I actually didn’t know this. Spencer Rattler was picked right before uh Jaylen Carly’s um followed by again just a bunch of guys that I don’t even think have made um really a name from Sog, which is not super abnormal. And actually, I forgot this too. Now looking at this draft, the Colts actually had three draft picks in the fifth round um from Detroit Philly and Indie went to Jaylen Simpson drafted after. Obviously he is no longer on the team. Uh he was dropped earlier this season as well as Michael Abraham who was picked in round seven. But all that to say, this this could this is a matchup that I’m so excited to see and especially given the strengths of this Jacksonville Jaguars team and the strengths of the teams going forward. It’s a lot of tight end heavy. It’s tight end and slot wide receivers. You have the guys that are going to be able to defend against the explosive plays. You have Chvarius Ward, Binham, Nick Cross. All of those guys are going to be able to do a really good job. And then you also have guys coming up with Leatu Latu being able to apply consistent pressure. This defensively is what the Colts need. Now, what are the Colts going to do on offense to switch things up? I don’t know. They’re going to have to do something. That is the other good news we have this week is that after missing the first practice this week with a hip and ankle injury, Josh DS is back to a full participant this weekend. Um Josh Downs had a great game last year against the Jacksonville Jaguars where Joe Flacco was the quarterback. This is actually the game of which my daughter was born on this day. So I have personal ties this game. It was very very tough to sit in the labor room and watch the Colts lose a heartbreaker game like this. That being said, this is the year I think I truly believe that the Colts have every opportunity to win this game. And obviously anything could happen. This could go any switch direction, especially after the current trend of the Colts. But I think getting a guy like Jaylen Carly’s back on the Colts is going to be exactly what the Colts need. This is a team that runs nickel base almost more than anyone else because we have one of the best, if not the best, nickel corners in football. That being said, on clear passing or even running situations, having a guy like Jaylen Carly’s former safety, now turned linebacker is going to provide so much speed, so much depth, and being able to to really mix it up if the play doesn’t go as expected. Is a clear passing down. This is a guy who’s going to be great inside the paint. And if it’s a clear running down, it’s a guy who’s going to have speed on the outside and his pursuit is unmatched. Tackling was great. Uh honestly this guy it doesn’t really have he doesn’t have a lot of weaknesses and I truly believe um that he is going to be very fantastic. This is what um the his 2023 was uh led the team with 64 tackles started 12 games 4.5 tackles for loss two sacks two interceptions five pass breakups a force fumble and did miss the opener last year due to injury. Uh, and that was sorry that was actually for Missouri. That wasn’t 2023 was Missouri, not for the Colts obviously. Um, but obviously great stats and that was a year of which Missouri was a very competitive football team. I really believe I mean in he’s had multiple interceptions in every single year that he played in Missouri. Four interceptions, three interceptions. Um, he’s had sacks in every game. This is a perfect match I think I think for the Colts. It’s going to be fantastic and especially in a DB room that now has a lot of experience and depth. Getting a young guy who with a moldable mind like Jaylen Carly’s in blue honoral defense is a perfect matchup and I’m excited to see where all it goes.
