New York Jets Olu Fashanu is Turning Into an ELITE Left Tackle

What is going on Jet fans? Matt Ori back with another video on this Thursday afternoon. I know usually on Thursdays I go through and take a look at some press conference clips from Tanner Angstrand or uh from their defensive coordinator Steve Wilks, but instead I wanted to take a look at Olu Fashionu today and give you some numbers and talk about how he’s turning into one of the better left tackles in the NFL. I hope you didn’t write off Olu Fashionu at the beginning of the year because I got to say there were quite a few people who were talking about Olu as he got off to a slow start. No denying it was a slow start in his sophomore season. Uh but we’ve seen a pretty drastic improvement over the last few weeks. And look, I think we’ve spent most of the year as a fan base praising Armanu. I want to make it abundantly clear, he deserves a ton of praise because he’s been really good as a rookie tackle in the NFL, which is very rare to see. But Olu Fashion has quietly settled in as one of the best left tackles in the NFL over the last two months. And it feels like it’s flying very under the radar in comparisons to some of the other conversations happening around right now in Jets land. Over the last six games, so since week seven, Olu Fashion’s 82.4 PFF pass block grade ranks fifth among all 103 tackles that are qualified. He’s just given up 12 pressures over that span. And he hasn’t been penalized since week three. He’s been excellent, excellent over the last couple months and deserves the recognition, honestly. I I think he does, right? Uh because again, like I said earlier, Arman Meu has been the guy that we’ve talked probably the most about on this offensive line. And I love Meu. This isn’t I I I want to just show love to Olu, who’s, you know, I think really earned it. And I think something that we forgot or at least some people forgot from the beginning part of the year was that Olu only started seven games as a rookie in 2024. So, in order to him get to get to career start number 17, which is a full season in his career, right? Like obviously it’s split between two years, but a season is 17 games. That just came against New England two weeks ago. So, he’s playing he’s played 19 career games. He’s 22 years old. He’s going to turn 23 later this month in a couple days. And he’s improved drastically. That’s a really good sign for this football team. And I think especially at a position group like the offensive line, you can’t rush the judgment after, you know, at that point it would have been career start number like 11 right early on in the season this year when he was struggling and the team just in general was struggling early on in the year. But that again points to to coaching and the improvement that they’ve made as a unit as the year goes on. That matters to me. I know like we we did a video um you know yesterday about the draft or earlier this week about the draft and to tank or not to tank and the whole thing, right? Like I I understand those conversations and how having a higher pick helps you land a better player more often than not. You’re not always getting the best player in the draft, but it gives you a higher chance to get a really good player the higher you pick. But the Olu improving and becoming one of the best left tackles in the NFL is a good thing. Uh the coaching staff improving. Hell, like even just look at the rest of the line, right? Joe Tipman at guard has been excellent over the last few weeks. He settled in now as a right guard. Uh Arman Meu, another one like you have three really good pieces on this offensive line and you have to make a decision what your plan is at left guard and center. But for years this team has tried to stabilize the offensive line. Pretty much since the Brickshaw Ferguson retired in 2015 and Nick Mangold retired after the following season in 2016. Rest in peace. It’s been from 2017 through like this year pretty much it’s been a rotating cast of characters trying to find the right pieces and for most of that time it has been significantly below average offensive line play. The Jets are getting pretty good offensive line play. Is there room for improvement? And when all these guys hit, you know, are playing to their peak at the same time, can it be better? Yeah. I don’t think it’s not fair to say the Jets are a top five offensive line in the NFL. I think there are definitely teams with better offensive lines out there, but you have a 22-year-old developing as your left tackle. You have another young guy in Armanu who’s a rookie playing out of his mind, only had his first rough game this past week. And Joe Tipman settled in at guard. And that really, you know, when you’re trying to build a team and put a young quarterback in a position to succeed, offensive line plays a really big factor in that. So, I know it’s not the sexiest thing to talk about. We like to talk about, you know, the quarterback play and putting up points and wide receivers and sacks and all that good stuff, but having a strong offensive line is super important to team success, and the Jets are really trending in the right direction there. So, I wanted to call that out. Thank you for tuning in. I’m Matt Ori. Leave your thoughts in the comments and I’ll catch you next time.

  1. This is why I was so happy with taking Olu and Membou, God willing, these are our bookends for about a decade. And with Tipp emerging at guard + having that much money for FA, I genuinely do think if the Ravens are dumb enough to let Linderbaum end the season without an extension, we make him the highest paid center if that's what it takes and we draft Simpson's replacement to keep that O-line fairly cheap for years to come.

  2. I agree with you 100% Matt O'Leary. Olu Fashanu along with Armand Membou have an amazing amount of talent and potential. They are going to be book end tackles for the Jets for many years to come.

  3. Huh?!πŸ€” Maybe just maybe this Jets team is gaining altitude. Just need the NFL to force the Bum Johnsons to sell or else they will muck this up … again.

  4. I banged on the table since December of 2023 to Draft Fashanu in 2024 alll over Twitter-X and Jets YouTube channels! Everyone thought i was crazy.

Then I did the same predicting Membou being Drafted by us to form a "Band of Brother's" at our front line! Tippman was a blessings as well.

AVT might have to go though unfortunately and should be addressed immediately in next years Draft in the later rounds.
