Why are you suggesting Edmonton is the only team to not take Wally?
Oh trust me oilers fans have not forgotten that their GM not only didn’t pick Wallstedt but that even after they traded down they didn’t pick Wyatt Johnston either.
That draft was a double whammy of missed picks.
Obviously it’s easy to laugh at the Oilers, considering they have been in goalie purgatory for decades, but there were 19 over teams that also passed on Wallstedt. The Predators, Blues, Flames, Senators, Kings, and Blue Jackets (in lieu of Sillinger) to name a few would have been much better off in 2021 taking Wallstedt than the picks they made.
Revisionist history related to draft picks is boring and I think continuing to rub this in Oiler fans faces is in bad taste. Skinner is not a bad goalie by any stretch and Wallstedt wouldn’t have changed the outcome of their last two Stanley Cup losses to the Panthers. Going forward could he help? Certainly, but doesn’t change their 2024 and 2025 seasons endings.
Everybody shits on the Oilers but not enough people give credit to whoever pounded the table from our side to make that happen
I’m still confused as to why Yzerman took Cossa over Wallstedt to be honest.
