What’s going on with Harrington? Historically he’s usually been hostile to analytics.
Eventually you have to start to believe what you are seeing.
I’m not a fancy numbers guy myself for the simple fact not every analysis tracks the same matrix with the same parameters.
Let alone it is easy to skew the results in the direction one sees fit. It’s not black and white !
Don’t worry, he’ll be back to shitting on them and calling them “nerds” the next time the Sabres have another lull.
The stats suggest they’re good but it’s time to get past NHL .500 and show it in the standings. On top of that, we all know how easily this team can switch off thinking they’re the cream of the NHL and only need to show up. Today is actually a huge game for them mentally. To play how they’ve been playing, put up a ton of shots, create chances by going to the net and back check hard.
Life is harder on the road in the NHL with last change. But with the newly discovered depth thanks to the emergence of Ostlund, rebirth of Quinn, I think they’re beginning to loom like a competent hockey club. But……. Goaltending
Ha I’ve been saying the Sabres are back for a decade now
I always thought he generally agreed that analytics have value, but just aren’t the end all, be all.
i just hope the Sabres don’t lay an egg tonight against Philly.
The Sabres are the second or third youngest team in the league (by average player age). The Jets are the oldest.
I wouldn’t say beating some geriatrics (by NHL standards) is a sign that they’re “back”, but damn it was fun to watch 3 periods of good play.
