Situation Room Calls For Hand Pass Review In Final Minute

with a terrific defensive play right before that last shot. Shovel back in over the glove there of Jarry. Scramble to the puck. Comes to the line held by Dat Stew Park right in front. Hegel gets it back to Steu. Gets it right back. Set pass. Ends up with Ravage to Kotra. Scores. Nana Ker has tied it again. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] A brilliant shot again. Kush must be up to about 17 attempts on net now. I’ve never seen him shoot so much in a game. Love watching it. And this shot is pure perfection. He’s taken so many one-times. That’s like a double clanker off the near side post. Radish has been such a threat from up top that the goalender has to respect him. And that has a lot to do with it, too. Radish has been shooting at 90 m an hour and Radish has probably had about eight or 10 attempts on the net, too. So, freezing the goalender in the minute for in the middle, excuse me, of the net for a second or two extra allows that short side opening there. Cut off hits it perfectly and it’s tied at four. And just hang on. We have a situation room initiated review to see if there was a hand pass prior to the goal. Oh boy. So again, this is in the final minute. This is not a coach’s challenge. That’s not allowed at this stage of the game. This is coming from the situation room in Toronto to see if there was a missed stoppage event. In this case, a hand pass. Wow. Yeah, that’s that’s not good news. They are watching everything. It’s only at the end of games, the end of the period as you pointed out, Dave. So, the referees didn’t see it. The fact that they have alerted them to it, they saw something. I didn’t see it. McCauley, you can direct the pass in your own zone with a hand pass, but you can’t do it in the neutral zone or the offensive zone. So that’s what they’re looking at. I I can’t even tell you whose hand it went off here. And the referees are taking a look. Yeah, the referees are West McCaulay and Cory Seret. And they are on the headsets with the situation room. Here’s a a look. Okay. Along the wall, comes up along the glass. He just knocks it down defending himself. Did that come off his chest? A Pittsburgh player could have played it. Boy, that’s an interpretation thing there. To me, that’s not directed by a hand pass. That’s self-defense off the wall. It hit him in the chest. He’s trying to knock it down. I think you could argue that a Pittsburgh player could have touched it there, but didn’t or couldn’t get to it. This is total interpretation taking their time. I mean, if there’s a movement of his hand, even the slightest movement to make it look like a pass, but it doesn’t appear there’s any screen. See, it’s off the glass. Oh, boy. Maybe. So, it’s [Music] right there. And you can see how see that it’s it’s self-defense. I don’t see how they should take a goal away from this when a guy literally is defending himself from getting hit with the puck off the glass. [Music] Hegel’s taking a look at it now. See it? He’s saying it hit my arm. 40 shots tonight for the Lightning. Will the last one count? And I’ll bet you Coupe is saying something to the effect like really they from Toronto are doing this to us. Well, he’s keeping us cool over there. But they are not the longer this this takes. The referee I I think it’s going to end up in the Lightning’s favor to be honest with you. Here is West McCauley with the verdict. After reviewing the play, it was determined that there was a hand pass at 107. That’s why the call of the ice is overturned. We got no goal. [Applause] The look there from the head coach kind of says it all. So they put more time back on the clock. There’s now 107 remaining to try to pull this out. Still was over talking to Wes Mccaulay, the referee, and I think he was trying to explain what Hegel was saying went off my arm. Yeah, I I Well, I already told you, but I thought I don’t agree with that one. Crosby wins the draw. Penguins give the puck back to the Johansson’s in the net right now as we are into the final minute. Sponsored by John Lavine. That one off the stick of Lad and Johansson has the play across on his way to the bench. So, here we go. Extra attacker is off. Lety trying to get inside the line. Radish just inside. He’s checked. Pulled away by Cerelli. Cerelli across. That’s Du into the corner. He goes parked right in front. Back to Dust. Calling for is Radish. Here’s Coochov. Fires that one wide. Trapped and held by Dust Stew. Radish. Cooerov beats it down low. Heel tries to snap one from a sharp angle. Pens find it and send this one down. Bradish up ahead. into the no for Kra. He’s in. Contra. Stopped by Jerry. Rebound goes into the corner. Wallace. Whoa. They almost got it from the sharp angle. Here’s another tip of the far side. That doesn’t go. They try to jam it out in front. And the Pittsburgh Penguins are going to hang on. What a wild finish. And it falls short. And the crowd here still booing over the decision that was made. But it is the Penguins who win

  1. Its so funny how so many people wanna try and argue the call when even kucherov himself knows its a hand pass. He says it twice right after scoring 0:23 its a very clear cut call but people wanna whine about the game being rigged cus theyre salty their team lost lol

  2. It was a good call. That is how it is. The puck went off his hand and his own teammate touched it afterwords. I seen similar things in other games because called this way.

  3. That, in no way, is a hand pass. I've seen some strange calls this season, one, not too long ago, where it clearly looked like a kicking motion was used to score a goal. Deliberate, controlled forward motion of the foot to direct the puck into the net. It couldn't be any clearer, and yet, it was ruled a goal. This situation had the puck coming towards someone standing on the wall with no place to go and he swatted it down. He didn't grab it in his hand, he didn't settle it in his glove and drop it in the direction of a teammate. He swatted it down to prevent being hit by it. That is in no way a pass. This call was plain wrong. You have to wonder if there is a bias at play here.

  4. Correct call.

79.1 – Hand Pass – A player shall be permitted to stop or "bat" a puck in the air with his open hand, or push it along the ice with his hand, and the play shall not be stopped unless, in the opinion of the on-ice officials, he has directed the puck to a teammate, or has allowed his team to gain an advantage, and subsequently possession and control of the puck is obtained by a player of the offending team, either directly or deflected off any player or official.

No intention required. The team gained advantage from his hand stopping the puck. I admittedly would be angry too, but it's the correct call.

  5. By rule – it's the correct call. It's absurdly ticky tacky and I can understand why TB fans would be livid. This has happened more than once to them, however they did have 6 PP opportunities to Pittsburgh's 4…It's not like the refs jobbed them the whole game. The Guentzel call in particular was weak and they gave it to them.

  6. But yet there were no offsides called on the prior Pittsburgh goal, which proves once again that all sports are fixed, which was my hand pass. That was a reflex that all humans have to protect their body and face

  7. Right call. The announcers are clearly Tampa fans. It wasn’t self defense. He reached up, pulled the puck down, and redirected it out from the boards. Had he not reached up it would have hit the glass or skimmed the glass going past him. He leaned back towards the glass to make the move;put himself in the puck’s path. It looks like he intended to make it a pass to himself, but it got away from him. Jake bats it to another player. Correct call per the rules. Officials should have called it before it made it to the net, of course one of them was ducking out of the way.
