Atlanta Hawks’ Jalen Johnson After Loss To Pistons
Quinn, when you talked to him, one of the big things he took away was just how resilient you guys have been this season, especially tonight. Just what do you think has kind of been fueling that resiliency? Um, everything. I think just um our ability to stay together through adversity. I think that’s the main thing. Um, obviously we could have gave in tonight. Um, the second night of a back to back coming from Philly and we could have just hung our hats on that game and you know kind of just gave in tonight but we didn’t and um we gave everything we got tonight. So I’m proud of how we um competed tonight. Why was it important for you guys not to hang your hat? I mean I know it seems like a simple question but for you guys what’s the mentality of not hanging your hat on a win like that? I mean at the end of the day Detroit said they’re the number one team in the East right now andvious. We kind of knew that coming in and obviously we wanted that one. So it sucks. Yeah, we just could have been um better. Yeah, I guess you could say, but it was tough. What do you think sort of maybe led to you guys coming up a little bit short today? I couldn’t say. Yeah. Yeah. I don’t know. There’s a whole bunch of variables you can say. Yeah. What could have went right? What could have went better? I mean, in the NBA. And yeah, I’m good. I’m good. Um, at the end of the day, we only lost we only lost by one. We gave up less than 100 points. So, I mean, there’s there’s good things you can take away from games like this, but we’ll see them again. For sure. For you, Jaylen, what was the difference between the first and second half? I mean, first half you were looking to kind of dish to your teammates more. The second half you were looking to score, especially in that third quarter. Just what were you able to go into mental mentally into that third quarter? What were you thinking? Honestly, I just needed to wake up. That’s all it was. I just needed to up my energy. I needed to I know my team needed more from me. So, I mean, that was just a mindset in the second half. I wasn’t um aggressive enough, I don’t think, in the first half. And um second half, I just really just try to be more aggressive and um insert myself on the offensive end. And when I asked Quinn about it, um, he said like noticeably your poise, um, stood out to him. Just where do you get that from? Is that something that you got from your parents? Is that something you’ve always been like? Where did you get your your poise from? I appreciate the parent shout out. Appreciate that. Um, that definitely I mean they’re a reflection and it anything positive I do. So, um, but yeah, I think it was just just staying grounded, not really getting too caught up and trying to hang my head and, um, dwell on the first half that I had cuz at the end of the day, I know my teammates need me, um, throughout the course of the game. And, um, I needed them. They kept my head high and um, they allowed me to just be myself in that second half. Um, they constantly were encouraging me. So, that that was big time. One more from me. I’m sorry. Um, you and Nquille have sort of come up really clutch in these last few games. What has it been like having that sort of tandem or person that you can sort of lean on in these kind of clutch moments when the pressure is high and um you don’t want to bend to that pressure. Yeah, I mean it’s fun. Um K’s been great for us obviously in the fourth quarter down the stretch. So having a guy like that and it’s it’s not only just us like it’s everybody. It’s Ding on the offensive glass. just oh him big corner three shots like it’s just all all the all the things like that I think are playing in and obviously we’re getting a lot of the credit for it but there’s a lot more that goes into it than just me and the kill down the stretch you know what I’m saying so um but obviously me and the kill we’re constantly working talking at shoot arounds and stuff on how our twoman game could be better so it’s been fun as good as you guys have been and everybody kind of stepping up you also just kind ready to be like ready to see what this team is like whole again. Oh yeah, for sure. I mean, obviously Yeah. I mean, I can’t wait for us to be fully healthy and um it’s going to be senior. So, I’m excited for us to obviously you don’t want to rush guys back too soon and stuff like that. You guys want want our guys to be fully healthy. Um so, yeah, we’re just going to keep grinding it out, keep working with what we have right now. And um when that time comes uh we’ll be ready for it. Jaylen, one last thing. I noticed when you guys were walking off the court, it was you on Yucka and Dyson and you were kind of like patting their backs. You were kind of like looked like you were encouraging them. Just what were you saying to them and what did you say to your team? I mean, there’s just nothing to hang our heads about about tonight. I think we did everything we possibly could have. Obviously, shots are going to fall throughout the course of the 82 game season. So, I think like um yeah, I just told him like we just got to keep our heads high. Like we got another one, what’s today? Monday. Wednesday. We got another one Wednesday against the Clippers. So, um we just got to flush it. Not flush it, but yeah, just learn from it and uh prepare for the Clippers on Wednesday.
