All right, good stuff. Um, so we’re not going to ruin it for Strutddy’s World, but I I ran into a few people today that had been at the concert last night. I couldn’t believe how many people wanted to talk about that today. It was all over the place. Zubie, did it resonate all the way out in Colona? What happened with Dave Chappelle in Edmonton? Um, you know what? I didn’t uh I didn’t hear anybody like locally on the ground here talking about it. But I sure when I opened social media uh this morning, it was pretty much the first thing that hit me. And then I kind of wondered I’m like, well, you got to take any complaints there with a grain of salt. Someone will complain about uh you know that they didn’t like the most the Mona Lisa if you you know if if uh you leave it up to social media, but then I could just see how widespread it was. So I wanted to go to the man here because I knew he was there. Yeah, a tiny little taste test. Little taste test. I know you want to save it for Strutddy’s world. Yeah. No, I’m gonna pretty much just keep it quiet. I’ll just say this. I was very excited to go because I think he’s a comedic genius. That is Dave Chappelle. Absolute comedic genius. I was really excited. Stay tuned uh for a little bit. I’m going to I’m going to let you know exactly what happened and how I saw things play out. Cannot wait. Struty’s World coming up in a couple of segments. For now though, my friend, might as well get down to breaking down. A hat-tick of a night from Conor McDavid. Four-point night. Big night for him and a big offensive outpouring for the Oilers. Our breakdowns as always brought to you by our good friends over at the Canadian Brew House. Hockey lives at the Canadian Brew House. All right, Strody, we heard some frustration from Conor McDavid after the last game saying he was the biggest culprit of turning down shooting opportunities. I made uh you know, looking at the notes I made from the game, just in big letters at the top, the very first note that I have is McDavid shooting lots. Uh I mean, this one, you couldn’t have been more on the nose than this one, Struds, after what happened last game. and then he comes out and does this here tonight. Very crystal clear that Conor McDavid uh is is fixing the problem. You know, it’s it you think about two plays last game where he’s on his backand in the slot and I he tries to slip it back toward him. I I get it. You know, he’s he’s scored on that many times, but I do think it’s about him getting his personal scoring on track and then that’ll feed others because now other people are like, “Oh man, we got to keep it close to this guy.” So tonight it was clear he was shooting and he has some really nice goals, some nice shots and he wasn’t um they weren’t what I would call a more traditional Conor McVa goal where he’s kind of stick handling it into the net because he’s so fast and so skilled. He was shooting from distance and scoring on all three. Yeah, I really like I think it was the first one, right, where I think new was it the one where he sniped top shelf there like that that kind of goal that’s just a it’s just a goal scorer’s goal and the year that he piled up 60 plus he was getting those kinds of goals with regularity struts shooting from distance and picking corners and such I think that’s really good not that McDavid lacks for any confidence but to score a goal scorer goal like that with that kind of intention and just let it rip. I just think that’s a good sign. Yeah. Well, he is a goal scorer, right? He scored 60s some goals. That that makes you a goal scorer. That’s not an accident that you get to that many. So, what I what I think when he has the intention to shoot, when he chooses to shoot like that, it really gives the opposition more to think about. It It really does. And I think it actually makes his wingers more dangerous because now you got to you got to be stick a little closer to Connor uh because you’re maybe worried that he will shoot from distance and can score from you know outside where he’s been more uh recently scoring which is kind of closer to the net. So I think this is a great thing for him. I I hope he keeps this intention up of getting lots of shots to the net and no one’s going to complain. No, his linemates are gonna be like, “Hey man, I’m open. Like this is the best player in the world. when he decides to shoot it, it’s the right play. And I think, you know, more often than not, there’s not a player on that team will be like, “Buddy, we want you shooting this puck. Shoot that puck for sure.” Uh, Zubie, did we grab a McDavid clip post game? Did you grab one? I sure did. Uh, yeah, I got two of him. I got two of him. I forget. It’s his last two back toback. No, I can’t. It’s The first one’s about him shooting. All right, Studdy, let’s get into the Whis Johnson soundbox, buddy. Before we get to Connor here, Shoger, I’ll let you know y that Yoshi on the chat says it’s slippery on the way home from Sherwood Park, so be careful out there. Oh, 100. Yeah, no question. 100%. Thank you very much for that. I uh driving very safe as always with my hands free, both hands on the wheel. I actually got the winter tires put on today and I’ve got it in four-wheel drive, so I will take it slow. But, uh, yeah, everybody out there, if anybody’s driving, take her nice and slow. Some weird weather here lately. Uh, I like how you interrupted what was going to be a full Whis Johnson jingle for that public service announcement, Zubie. I I I was going to criticize you and then realize, no, no, you’re actually being concerned for me. So, we’ll let that one slide for now. Uh, here’s Conor McDavid. Yeah, for sure. You know, as I said before, I thought I passed a couple away the other night and, you know, ultimately cost us um losing a one- nothing game. You know, who knows if I score on one of those. So, um definitely thought uh thought about shooting a little bit more. Is the Is the sample size now like we’ll go back to the Tampa game. You guys have put together five really good games out of six. Is the sample size big enough where you feel like you guys have found something here? We feel like we’re playing better obviously. Um, you know, and nice to, as I said, to, you know, score some goals and and feel good about ourselves. You know, it’s been uh been a little bit of a grind here finding wins. So, nice to uh nice to put a good one together. Wasn’t just Conor McDavid that found the offense tonight, Struds. There were some some good performances throughout the lineup. Maybe take us through your thoughts on Matt Seavoy’s production and his night overall. He’s been around it, right? He’s been around and had opportunities this year and just just it’s always like it’s just off the post or he just someone makes a good save. Um well, tonight, you know, he had that first uh uh breakaway and I was like, “Oh man, I just I think it was probably the right choice.” you know, not that I was a very offensive player, but I think it maybe was there for him. Um, and then he gets a second breakaway and, you know, he he goes goes forehand, backhand goal, which is huge. And then I love the play by Knoblock to put out the people he did for the five on three, right? You had Nurse, you had Ekholm, uh, Rico, uh, Majapani, and Seavoi. And Rico just puts on a TE for Seavoi. I don’t care how it, you know, how it goes. Just scoring two goals in a game will be huge for this guy. He’s a He’s always been an offensive player. He’s always scored. Everywhere he’s been, you know, once he’s gone on track in that league, he’s he’s been offensive player. So, this was a huge huge night for him. Now, I will put an asterisk beside this. I know you guys love it when I do that. Oh, you and your asterisk. Yeah. Hold on. Let me I’ll put a hashtag. I don’t If you want a hashtag, I’ll do a hashtag jogger, but different thing. Okay. He didn’t get it when beside Leon dry settle, right? And that’s and that’s the only thing I’m going to say because you, you know, one was short-handed, the other one was on the power play where Leon wasn’t out there. So, it wasn’t like a five on five goal and I’d love for him to get a couple like, you know, within the next little bit here, get a couple five on five goals so he can do it in that scenario as well. I know to subo it won’t matter but just as a guy who’s been around the league like you you want to get those five on five as well as the you know the extracurricular activities. Well it’s a it’s a really good point by you. I think part of Seavoy’s evolution here and getting more comfortable will be generating offense with those guys struts to your point and just more of a feeling like you belong, right? You put your hands in the air and finish something off and the first guy coming to hug you is Leon Dryidle and you got him an apple, right? The confidence that gives you Leon’s feelings about being out there with you. Um, yeah, I criticized your asterisk a little bit, but I I think it’s a well-made point. Like that is a difference. Yeah. And I I want to be clear like it’s it’s it’s important that he scores at any time, but you know, I think that the idea of getting it five on five with those guys there there is something there. So, you know, are they going to keep the lines together for the Jets? I’m not sure. I think tomorrow’s a day off. So, you know, we might not know till that night, but I think probably it still I’m guessing it stays the same. You know, so I’d love for him to see him get a five on five, a pass from Pac Coulson to Leon to Seavoy back in the net. I think that’d be really important for him to say, I am now scoring with the top players on the league. Yeah, team earned itself a full day off tomorrow. I think there was an original plan to do something uh but day off tomorrow and then they’ll probably have a pregame skate there before that game on the weekend. Let’s go back to the Whis Johnson soundbox. I asked Matt Seavoy about his patience level and what scoring a couple like this could do for him based on his history of you know having to fight through it and stay confident. Yeah, I think confidence is is huge. Um you know I went through it I think when I was 15 in the Western League. Um you know being stin I didn’t score it all that year. I played I think 24 games and um didn’t get on the sheets. So, um, and then the next year, I think you you get one, you get two, you build off that, it starts to to flow and be kind of a waterfall effect. So, hoping that’s the case here. Okay, Strutddy. Um, I think I want I know who I want to talk about next, but let’s go to the relentless player because I’m wondering if the guy I want to talk about next might be your relentless player. I I don’t know the answer, and I don’t want you to change your mind, but let’s get to the Relentless Player. That’s brought to you by our fabulous charitable partner over at UKAN Youth Services, an Empton charity relentless about helping 16 to 24 year olds step out of harm’s way and into work. Make that change today right here at home. Visit you.ca. Um, I know or do you want me to No, you you go ahead and you go ahead and do it and then we’ll move on to to my next uh subject. So, I I took a chance, missed. Uh, but go ahead. Okay. This guy doesn’t get it enough. And, uh, I I think he really deserves it. He led the team with seven shots, three goals, one assist, and he he, in my opinion, was relentless in his pursuit of scoring tonight. And that that it was clear from the beginning of the game right through, he was on a mission to score and he got it done. So, for that, 97 gets my my tab tonight. Congrats, Connor. You are right. He doesn’t he probably doesn’t get it enough because it’s kind of expected and we tend to look for maybe the underdogs with this for sure. But I love that. I think that’s the I think that’s the right call tonight. The guy I was going to think about a little bit here was Vasili Pod Coulson Struds because he’s just every night you kind of get the same thing from this player. Like the the motor’s just going, the physicality is there. It just he just embodies in so many ways some things that this team has lacked which is dogged effort and consistency and another night like that for him. Yeah, it sure was. And yeah, he he he could, you know, he’s on my list night nearly nightly, which is pretty good honor for him. Uh but what I really liked about him tonight, all the things are great. I like the goal. I like the intention to go to that spot and shoot that puck uh and get it over the line. Like I I I this player has to find a way if the Oders are going to continue to move forward as a group. Uh he needs to get to 15, you know, 20 goals would be amazing for him. And he’s set he’s set five set five now. But you know, if he can get to 15 or 20, it would be massive. And you see I what I liked and you were in the building. I was just on TV the response from Leon. Like he came over and he was genuinely happy for Pod Coulson. you know, he’s never that happy when he scores himself or never he’s less like, you know, less likely to be that happy when he scores himself. So, I loved that reaction. Like, I felt like he was saying, “Hey, buddy, you can do this. Like, I’m gonna keep feeding you pucks. Bury them.” Well, how about the fact that it was from Dry Cidle’s office. I mean, that I was laughing at that. I was like, “What?” Cuz we have not seen him. He’s been playing with Dryidle a long time. two times he set up in dryidle’s office and tried to score from there. We have never seen him do that. There’s a lot of skill. Pudgen came into this league with you know one has a lot of skill and he has scored was it close to 20 goals that one year. I forget what it was but it was it was a chunk. Um and I think he’s lost his he lost his offensive confidence and maybe opportunity in Vancouver. So here he is now playing with a guy that can feed you the puck. And I I I believe with my whole heart that Leon is trying to fuel that, you know, that that fire again, right? Fan the flames to get him available to score those goals cuz that’s the only thing that’s missing. I I think that he does make a lot of plays with Puck. He gets pucks back. Leon obviously likes playing with him, but if he can get to that 1520 goal mark, my god, it would be huge for that line of this team. Huge. But he’s at five five through 28. So, what does that translate? He’s That’s like We’re going at 12 12 goal pace. Uh yeah, 122. Dude, I’m terrible at math when I got a calculator in front of me. I’m trying to drive right now. I’m not doing math. I’ll drive off the side of the road. Yeah. So, those two, Seavoyan and Pod Cole and each having well, you know, three goals between the two of them is massive for this team. Uh but they they need them. They need those goals to keep going in for sure. want to get to our story lines and a reminder that uh keep an eye on our social media platforms during the day uh on show days. We’re going to tweet out a line from Play Alberta that we think is tied into an interesting story. And tonight’s involved uh Leon Dryidal Struds, but again, our story lines are brought to you by Play Alberta. Zubie, I look, we hit tonight, Zubie. Yeah, but we could have hit in a much more meaningful way. You can tell the story. Zubie is the brains behind these story lines most days. He wanted to go out on a big limb today. It would have been a huge line had we done it, but I backed him off. Now, we still hit Zubie, but it could have been a whopper today. Uh, we did. We hit on two or more points for Leon Dryidle. Um, and that just came from that he’s he averages two points against the Kraken. So, I was looking there and then from the conversations we had been having about needing goals from some other players to happen, I said, I feel like it’s Zach Heyman’s time uh to to get one off of his stick maybe and not his skate. So, I said, let’s go with the two points for Dryside and let a goal from Zack Heyman. And I believe you told what did you say? I believe you said that’s a bit of a stretch. Well, I just Yeah, I just felt like I know I know it was such a because I can and and what Play Alberta does is they’ll they’ll build this line for us and then boost it which gives you great odds. So, we did dry side two points with great odds that hit. So, if you took the line today, you would have won that. If we’d have done Heyman in there for a goal, too, I can only imagine what that would have been. So, we’ll take the win tonight. We nailed it. But bottom line, Struds, on the the point of Zack Heyman, like that was a classic Zack Heyman goal where everything looked like it was working properly. It sure was. You know, yesterday on Strateies where we spoke about, you know, how the defense seem to be coming around the the team defense and Zubie and I kind of highlighted some players that need to get, you know, some goals. Uh Zach had one and eight goals, sorry, one goal in eight games coming into this game and he you know he he it’s he’d been around it but he needed a moment I think and tonight I love this goal. He just skates tracks that puck down and then goes shortside backhand and just just a beautiful goal that I think might bring some confidence back to him and not that he needs he’s a very confident guy but just saying hey my my arm is okay like I can do this now. That’s a high skill play he did. That wasn’t, you know, just chopping at it three times and pushing all four pieces of the puck in the net. So, I think that’s really important for him um to get that just say, “Okay, I’m here. I’m back.” And then his teammates feeling the same way about him because they need they need him to score. They need Rosik to score. They need pots and seavo. Like, that’s four players that, you know, if those guys can get can be healthy and score, it it really helps take some of the offensive burden off others. I should have never doubted you, Zubie. It was my bad. It was my bad to question you and come over the top. So, you’re going to get a lot of leeway with your storylines in the coming game. It was a big It was a big swing. Nobody knew they were going to put up nine. Oh, you would have crushed it though. We would have just crushed it. So, anyway, we’ll take some big swings here and there, but uh always love our story lines. Uh betting lines tied into stories that we think are important and matter. Uh, Struds, I’m getting home here. Uh, let’s we’ll save the Chris Knoblock sound for the next segment, but why don’t you guys crunch the numbers and get the poll done and I’ll hop inside and then I assume Brownie will be here soon. You got it, buddy. Thanks, man. Okay, let’s get right into crunching the numbers and brought to you by I have Brownie’s ready. Do you want to do Do you want me to bring him in for this? Um, or do you want to do this? We’ll bring him in for the Or do you want to save him till after the break? Um, yeah. Let’s let’s do it. Let’s do it right now. Then we’ll do the poll then. Yeah, we’ll we’ll get her get her done. I’ll bring them right in live. This will great. This will surprise and then Okay, while you’re bring If you were to do the read, I’ll bring them right in. Yeah, sounds good. So, uh, crunching the numbers brought to you by McDonald’s. Who’s of Canada? Do be warned. The Grinch is back. He’s feeling quite scorned. He’s built a worst box with odd socks as a prize and even left behind a who surprise. Looking to see the Grinch’s big reveal? It’s only McDonald’s his grinchiest meal for limited time limited time only while supplies last at participating McDonald’s restaurants in Canada. All right, we got uh the big guy here, Roberto Brown, joined us a little bit quicker than normal after a win. I’m sure it feels a little bit better, Brownie. Um so, Brownie, we’re just going to skip right into crunching the numbers. This is where we take a look at some of Sport Logic’s numbers and I picked three tonight that I think are important to uh kind of take a look at. Suzubie. Um, can you throw that up on the board there for me, buddy? So, here, this is what I have. So, uh, Brownie, just to kind of give you a sense, I went off more off the scoring chances off the rush. The olders had six, Seattle six. Okay, pretty good. Scoring chances off the cycle. The Oders only had four. Seattle at six. Okay, we can live with that. This is where I start getting my old Calvin Klein’s in a bit of a bunch. Turnover scoring chances The Oilers had a nine, Seattle Kraken 16. So, you know, I I thought that there was a lot of good things tonight, but when I in my mind, I’m like, I think their puck management at times was questionable, resulted in two goals against I can think of for sure. But here we go where puck management, they got away with it, but puck management showed up in my eyes and in the numbers here, buddy. Yeah, it’s a good point. I mean, when you win a game and you score nine goals, people don’t see the negative. They say, “Oh, everything was great. They scored nine.” And they did, but they scored nine because Seattle was terrible defensively and got terrible goalending. I mean, that goalending was awful tonight. But the Oilers gave up four. And again, four is too many. This and the goal that you have, Leon, turnover rate in front of his own net. Conor McDavid turnover on the blue line. Both of those were goals when the game still hung in the balance. Those can’t happen. There was another one where Trent Frederick had the puck. He was three feet from the blue line in his own zone and carried the puck all the way back into his own zone. Eventually lost control of the puck below the goal line and the Kraken had the puck in the offensive zone for 45 seconds. Those are plays that you can’t have. So as as as much as it was a fun victory and a lot of goals, it was a four on it was the goals were four four five on five. This was one because the Oilers special teams are special. But when you got broke it down when they’re playing on five on five in this hockey game, both teams bled great a scoring chances again. And the Oilers, it wasn’t a clean game. It was a great victory, but those stats that you just talked about shows it wasn’t a clean victory. something. They still need things they have to improve on. So, it’s always easier to do it when you win, but it wasn’t a perfect game. Yeah, you just nailed it there. And and that’s, you know, this is something they can’t let it slip away, right? So, they won, but I wouldn’t say I’d be satisfied with my play defensively if I was the Oilers and their head coach. I would just say, “Guys, we’re better than this.” And you can look at some of these because there’s also the goal, you know, Conor McDavid gets to within two feet of the blue line and he tries to throw a pass off Heyman back in their zone. goal against, right? Like Mac’s goal. So tough, really tough. And and Connor had three goals. That’s fantastic. But it’s everyone, right? Everyone’s got to be responsible with the way they manage the puck at especially at those blue line areas. So um that was a number that jumped out of me. So I hate to be the Grinch uh often. It seems like I am here, but that’s where we’re at. Um uh let’s do the YouTube poll here. Zoop brought to you by D’vor’s Golf Shop and Fitting Center. Go and say the boys or go and see the boys. Zubie, what have you got for a poll tonight, my man? All right, here’s the poll. Uh the question is who needed this game the most? And our choices are Conor McDavid, Bat Seavoi, Zack Heyman, or the fans? Those are those are your four choices. Who needed this one the most? Ready? Yeah, I I I’m going to go at Seavoy. We’ve talked about Seavoy. Um his fifth goal, fourth and fifth goal of the year. I think that it’s fantastic that he got those goals. Um because he’s a goal scorer. Brown, you talk about all the time, they they got to feel the back of the net. What what would you say in those groups of guys? Well, in all honesty, it’s it’s it’s the fans that need it the most. But when you but when it comes to the players though, it is Seavoy. And it was funny at the end of the first period, we talked about Seavoy and there’s pressure. You’re playing in the top six. You’re playing with Leon Dryidle or Conor McDavid. You have to produce. And there’s a really good forward that’s sitting out right now with an injury, Ros. When he comes back, he’s going back into the top six. So, Sabo’s had a number of good looks, a number of good chances, hasn’t found the back of the net, misses on the power on the breakaway in the first period about it all intermission. So, the fact that he came out in the second period, scores the big shorthanded goal, then adds to it with the power play goal late, I think he needed it the most, and I think that will carry over. The confidence from those two goals will carry over in his play in the coming game. He One other note on that actually, I don’t know if you heard the comment, Brownie. He said he said in between periods that it was actually Stu Skinner who told him to try back. He said, “If you get another shot at it, try going backhand.” And that’s what he did. So that was kind of cool, too. Yeah. Well, it’s funny, and we talked about it on chat afterwards. I I must have asked goalenders 30, 40 times in my career. If I’ve struggled against a goalender, I’ll talk to him. If I got a penalty shot or in a shootout, I would talk to my goalender. Goalies study other goalies. And they’re they’re looking down at the guy all night long. And on the breakaway, yeah, the first one that Seavoy missed, Skinner or well, they would have watched the entire length of the ice, what he’s doing, how you could beat him. Goenders know the weaknesses of every other goalender and their strength. So, I used to do it all the time and and I love the fact that he immediately got another chance. He went with what Skinner told him to do and he had success. So, I imagine Seavoi will have more conversations with Stu Skinner over the next uh few months, few years, however long it is. When I first got into NHL, I played with a goalie named Gar Snow. Fun, one of the funniest guys you’ll ever meet. And uh you know, I was trying to score. I hadn’t scored in a while. Took me a while to get my first goal. So, I get we were playing one night and I don’t remember who was against, but I said, “Hey, man. If I get a chance to shoot, where should I shoot this?” He’s like, “Don’t waste your time. Throw it in the corner.” I was like, “Oh my god. Oh, it’s like, oh man. All right. All right. That didn’t feel very good. I’ll tell you that right now. The whole team just blew up. So, needless to say, I didn’t score that night, guys. Thanks for laughing, Subie and Brady. Um, okay. On that high note, let’s take a break and when we come back, we’ll have the whole band back together. Stay with us everybody. Steve Dryden, our good buddy, the quiz master. You would know him as at home. Him and I have been debating this for a couple of months and finally he decided to put it out to the masses. So, I don’t want your guys’ answers right now, but you can set your brain to this. So, this was the quiz question, and we’re going to debate this in our take a lap segment. Has Four Nations MVP and current NHL scoring leader Nathan McKinnon surpassed, equaled, or remains slightly behind Conor McDavid as the preeminent player on the planet. Your options are 29 is surpassed 97, 29 is equal 97, or 29 remains slightly behind 97. So, bit of an existential question there. Is there a different guy with carrying that moniker, best player on the planet? Don’t answer, guys. We’re going to dig in on that one in our take a lap segment. People can certainly chime in on the stream. I have a feeling I know which way it’s going to go. Big picture here, guys, for the Oilers. It’s a number of games where the defensive play has been better. You go back to that Tampa game, probably a better overall quality that we’re seeing night in night out. Brownie, how would you characterize the Oers need to make that 180, how many degrees they’ve gotten so far, the 180 they needed to make? Well, I think I think they were much better defensively against Minnesota than they were were tonight. I don’t think the Oilers had a good defensive game tonight. I think the Oilers were very good offensively. I thought they took full advantage of their chances. Their power play was exceptional. Their special teams, their penalty killing was it was exceptional. I don’t think they were good five on five tonight. The score was 44 five on five. So, I think they had make a made a lot of improvements. I think there were some things that you really liked about their game, but I I their game against Minnesota was much better played than it was tonight. This was a there was a lot of leaky chances against Trez and I talked about it in the last uh little bit there. So this to me there this is you like the victory, you like the the special teams, you like the fact a lot of guys that needed to score did, but there’s also a lot of things the Oilers need to clean up defensively after this one. Yeah. Yeah, and track we kind of got into their uh uh what was it the uh turnovers chances against and Seattle had 16 16 of those and so I I I to me you express that in English as uh managing the puck and we saw two goals specifically that were result of turnovers just inside the blue line right and those are things that you know you just you get away with it against Seattle I don’t think you get away with it against you know higherend teams so u you know I I I think there’s a reset. Uh, you know, not a reset, but just a review of where you’re at and some decisions you’re making away from the puck. Yeah. So, I’m going to uh fly the flag here for the goalenders union a little bit. Zubie, you can chime in on this one, but like I know the game is over, but you’ve got to dial in for Calvin Pickard. the difference between three goals against and four goals against for a goalender that is a backup that doesn’t play that often just for his stats line and and the effect that it can have. I think it was who was it? Was it Emerson who was just kind of hanging around on the on the goal line not really taking anybody 4 seconds left in the game like I know it’s over but buckle down for your backup Tendy who everybody loves. I don’t know Brownie Do you care? I think they should have more than that. Well, it’s funny. At the end of the second period, uh, on Chad, that’s that was my whole point. I said, “This game is over. What do you need to do?” Well, you want to come out and play well for the goalie that, you know, there was rumors that he might be going down to the miners uh just a week ago who’s had a struggle of a season. You want to have a good period for him. Um, and I thought the third period, the Oilers gave up a lot of chances again in the third period. So, I agree with what you’re saying with four seconds left, but I think it was throughout the night. I don’t think they just buckled down in the last 10 seconds. I just don’t think they were great defensively all night long. I mean, Picker let in four. He made some good saves as well. There were a couple other good chances. This was a game where the Seattle goalending and Seattle defensive play was just way worse than the Oilers goalending and defensive play, but it wasn’t a pretty nice strud defensively for the Edmonton Oilers. Not not compared to what we’ve seen recently and especially the last two games. Um, you know, and and it’s just typical of Shager to find a hole in the way the Dmen played a position. No one talked about Yanmark trying to score with 12 seconds left and just blows an absolute wheel out and then all they had to do is just take in the corner and just eat it up against the wall. So, I don’t know. I just, you know, something to note, a forward, not, you know, criticizing another forward. It’s not unexpected on this podcast. I don’t know. I feel like Emerson was the greater culprit on that one. Although more to Brownie’s point, I mean, how about that turnover from Tricidle? That was like that was an alltimer of trying to get two fancy spinama stuff in your own end. Like, oh boy. Uh, but he’s going to get away with that 10 times out of 10. Like, he’s he’s just too good a player. Those things are going to happen now and then. McDavid had one as well. Um, Brownie, we’re going to shift our focus here into core adjustments because there was a very core adjustment made by the captain coming into this game. And core adjustments are brought to you by HSSE core services from creating and managing safety programs to audits and those required contractor registries. HSSE core keeps your business compliant so you can keep working. Visit www.hssecor.com. It might be David after the last game. Struds and I talked about in the opening segment, but I just want to get your sense on how different McDavid seems to process things and look out there when he has that shoot first thing going on in his head. Well, I I do talk about it in Brownie Point, but it was obvious. And what we saw tonight was that Conor McDavid can score from distance. I mean, he he’s that good a shooter. He’s he he’s be top five, seven shooters in the National Hockey League that if he decides if he decided one night that he would shoot every time he had the puck, he wouldn’t pass the puck. He probably would have two goals in the on the night every night, but he’s just so unselfish. It’s DNA tells him to pass first. But I think uh after last game, the fact that they they lost and didn’t score a goal and you know the questions coming to him, he came into this game with a shooters mentality. And it was funny right from the first shift of the game like he was flying first shift and he wanted he was going to set the tone so it was noticeable. And that’s the difference between superstars and regular folk. When a superstar decides they’re going to do something they actually can go out there and do it. And we saw that tonight with Maven. So I got a specific question uh Brownie to when you played with Marilmux. So that the year you scored 49 goals, Mario scored 85, which is insane. Like it’s just it’s just in and I don’t I’m not laughing at your total. It’s his toll. I’m like that’s just incredible. So let me ask you this. When he was shooting and scoring, did that open you up more? Because I I said earlier, I think that when Connor is shooting and scoring from distance, it makes life easier for Heyman and and and uh new. So, I’ll hang up and listen, but 85 goals for Mer, 49 for you that year. Well, a a great and I and I’m going to You guys are taking all my brownie points away. So, Conor McDavid always passes and everyone in the league knows it. Everyone knows it. The defenseman knows it. The goalie knows it. On Conor McDavid’s second goal tonight where he went five hole on the court, Dort was not expecting a shot there. He was getting ready to push off to go across the crease. Good. So, Conor McDavid because he shot there completely fooled the goalie. So, if he shoots more, well, now the goalie is going to play Connor that opens up the pass across. So, when Mario played you when when a guy’s got 85 goals, he’s going to shoot sometimes. So, you can’t play one or the other. And I think that’s the biggest thing. I think sometimes Connor gets predictable because he’s unselfish. So I think you if he shoots more that will open up more passing lane. So yes to your point caller number one. Yes, if he shoots more that will be better for Heyman and Dan Hopkins long run. 85 goals. That’s insane. Yet a guy with 49 you’re like man what a year. Uh my center had 85. Oh all right. Well, what’s his name? Who’s that guy? It’s incredible. We have a little bit We We have a little bit more sound in the the Whis Johnson soundbox. Have the orders made enough core adjustments to meaningfully be turning that corner and changing things around. Chris Knoblock, a big picture here on on his thoughts on the team coming along. We’re getting getting there. We’re getting there. I don’t think this is quite our team yet. I think we still have things to work on. I think we got um like I don’t think Seattle was at their best tonight. I know they had a long break and I think we took advantage of that, but um I’m starting to see a lot more things from our team that I like. Um and it all starts with our compete and attention to detail in the defensive zone. And if you don’t compete and if you don’t um defend well, you can’t win regularly. You can win once in a while. You can catch a team off guard and um you know, sometimes you can win a shootout game, but unless you can consistently play good defensive hockey, um you’re not going to have much success. And I see especially at the end of the road trip when we’re in Tampa Bay and Florida, we were a lot more dialed into playing better defensive hockey. and that’s what we’re going to need to do. All right, there you have it from head coach Chris Knoblock. Next up for the Oilers, the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday, then a couple of day break. Sabres and Red Wings will finish off this fivegame home stand. Going to take a break. When we come back, we’re going to dig in on that discussion. We’re going to take TSN’s quiz to got your back and put that question to the big guys. Struds and brownie has McKinnon surpassed Conor McDavid as a pre-minent best player in the world. I know which way this podcast and at least the people in the chat are going to skew, but I think at this point it is a reasonable and fair question to be asking. Brownie, well, I’m going to start with two Brownie points to Oilers young rookie Mattie Seavoy. Another strong game to the kid. And what I loved about his game tonight is after missing a wideopen breakaway in the first, he comes out in the second period, gets another wideopen breakaway, but he comes in with an assertiveness, a confidence. That was as confident a move I’ve seen out of Mattie Seavoy since he’s been in the National Hockey League. A lot of young players will brood or they’ll they’ll worry or their hands will get tight when things aren’t going right. He didn’t do that. He came out was assertive, scored a big goal and then the third and then the third period the power play goal that just adds to his confidence. This is Matty Seavoy is a confident young man and puck finding the back of the net is going to help them. I got five Brownie points to the other special teams tonight. They were very special. The Oilers came into the game with a huge advantage on specialty teams and they certainly took control of it with four power play goals and then the biggest goal of the night short-handed goal. This game was 4-4 in when the two teams played at even strength. The difference in this game were the five special team goals by the Oilers. I got seven brownie points to captain Conor McDavid. This is going on what we just talked about. After the miniame number 977 said that the Oilers pass up on too many shots with him being the biggest culprit. He comes in tonight. He has seven shots on net and a hat-tick. The first goal he scored shows that he’s capable of scoring from distance. The second goal heal scored shows how goalies will cheat knowing he usually passes. Superstars when they put their mind to something usually come through. I’ve got nine brownie points to the Oilers goal scorers tonight. When a team scores nine, they usually win. But it also usually means some players that could use a little puck luck got some puck luck. Tonight, a few players that have been stake bitten scored goals. I’m thinking about Heyman scored an incredibly assertive goal. the boy picen Yanmark. All of those players needed to find the back of the net and they did. When you score goals, your confidence grows. You become a better hockey player. Look for those players to continue to find the back of the net. I also, my last one here is 35 brownie points to the 35 firefighters dressed up for their annual Christmas Oiler games tonight. I can tell you there’s nothing cooler than seeing 35 Santaas standing on the jumbotron cheering after an Oilers’s goal. The firefighting Santa had a lot to cheer about tonight and possibly the Santaas had a little bit of beer to go with it as well. I have a feeling that Mrs. Claus will be driving the sleigh tonight. And those tonight are my brownie point. Good stuff, Brownie. Good stuff. Yeah, very much in the Christmas spirit now. I like seeing that tonight. Watched um oh Daddy’s Home Too I think today. Mark Wahlberg, Will Frell, and Mel Gibson. Did I get the movie title right? Zubie, you know that’s I believe so. Yes, I haven’t seen it, but I knowity right? Pretty quality, guys. Have you seen it? Thoughts? I quite enjoyed it this afternoon. I I haven’t seen that one. My my favorite my love actually is my favorite Christmas one. And the second favorite one is the Ryan Reynolds Will Pharaoh one where it’s a singing one. I can’t think of the name of it right now, but that’s those are my two favorite Christmas ones. They’re great, buddy. You have such good taste, Brownie. Well done. Someone called that musical. It’s a musical, right? Yeah. Yeah, it’s a musical and it is so funny. It’s kind of like a knockoff of Screw. Is it Scrooed? It’s a knockoff of Scrooge. Really, really good. Um, oh, let me look. I’ll I’ll someone spirited. There you go, Allison. Thank you, Spirited. There it is. Nailed it, girl. Nailed it. Right on. All right, those are Brownie points. Nice job on that, Brownie. Before we get to Struty’s World, and by the way, a reminder, Struds is the big guy is going to weigh in on uh the Chappelle standup comedy last night. I don’t want to get this wrong, but I’m just trying to find the note from Dryen. Who answered what? I believe O’Neal said that McKinnon has passed surpass McDavid and Poundy, Cheryl Pounder, I think, said he’s still slightly behind and someone said he’s pulled even. So again, here’s the criteria, right? When you say who’s the best hockey player in the world for as long as man Conor McDavid’s been around, it’s it’s he’s been, you know, there was a point where he passed Sid and it’s been that way ever since. Has that shifted back? Nathan McKinnon has been dominant offensively. Phenomenal numbers he’s put up. He’s doing it again this year. Um Struds, I’ll start with you, buddy. Which way will you go on this one? Well, you kind of got to look at points, right? and and McKinnon’s had more points last season this season than Connor, but Connor’s played 11 last games. You look at their points per game. 1.53 for McKinnon and 1.47 for Connor. Um, you know, both are incredible point producers and I have them neck andneck. So, McKinnon’s pulled into a tie in your mind. Brownie, I would I would say same. I think on any given night, one of them is better than the other. I think they’re the two best players in the world. Um I think the NHL there’s not a big when in my era Gretzky was way better than everyone else and there was no question. Then Mario came along and he was way better than everyone else and there was no question. I think right now over the last couple years you have McKinnon, you have uh Connor, you have Leon, you have Cooerov, they’re all close. I mean there’s not as big a difference. I think right now McKinnon and McDavid would be equal. I I do. Last year in the four nation, Connor scored the overtime winning goal. McKinnon was the MVP of the tournament. McKinnon was the MVP of the league last year in the scoring winner. Uh McKinnon’s got a Stanley Cup. I think they are the two best players in the world. I think they’re even. Um I I just think that there there’s not much difference. I think McKinnon’s probably a better goal scorer. Connor’s probably a better uh well, better skater, well, better power play guy. But to me, I I think both players would be equal. I don’t I think I don’t think they’re a one and a two now. I think you’re tied for the best player in the world. So, I dove into this with Gino Rea today on tsn.ca and um my argument was I’m saying that McKinnon is still a little bit behind. I’m not ready to I don’t like the idea of saying it’s a tie. I like who’s the best player in the world. I think there needs to be an answer to that question. Now, it was an option, so I’m not ripping you guys for yours, but I I I would rather be able to say who the best player in the world is. Here’s my argument. I think that if you were to ask players around the league this question, I think guys who play this game probably have a lot of respect for the sheer amount of hockey that Conor McDavid has had to play the last couple of years. The playoff grind, the number of playoff games that he has had to play, it’s been such a significant difference. He has driven his team to back-to-back Stanley Cup finals. Nathan McKinnon has not. Now, McKinnon McKinnon won one a few years ago, but we’re talking about what’s current. So, McDavid’s played 59 playoff games the last three years. McKinnon’s played 25. So, is Nathan McKinnon a little fresher for regular for the regular season and able to crush it? Maybe as McDavid been a little slow starting the last couple of years for sure. That right there probably makes up some of the difference points-wise. But I believe to be the best player in the world, it’s about driving your team to great places as well. I think Conor McDavid has run harder miles than Nathan McKinnon the last little bit and that’s why we’re seeing some discrepancy in the points, but I’m not ready to say that McKinnon is is that thing that we say about McDavid about how he does things no one else can do and and all those things. That hasn’t gone away for me. It’s for me it’s still Conor McDavid based on the games played and it’s not so much about the points str That’s a really well thoughtout point. Um, you know, I guess I’d push back and say, you know, Nathan’s got a Stanley Cup, right? So, he was able to take it all the way. Now, Connor’s been three wins away for the last two years, so it’s not like he’s, you know, hasn’t made it all. U, but I think that he has he has gotten that that done with his group. Um, but I I’m I’m going to back up and say what Brownie said again. I I mean, is there more star power one way or the other when you think about two players in the league? You know, if you had to choose one, I would be just as happy to watch Nathan as I would Connor. They’re both crazy good and they’re so different in the way that they play. Nathan’s just pure power. He’s like a raging bull out there and Connor is more graceful and and speed and and and not a reflection of intensity at all. Just the way they go about it is so different. Well, and I’ll and I’ll add to the the biggest tournament in the history of Connor and and McKinnon when they represented Canada was in the four nations and Connor scored the game-winning goal and McKinnon was the better player throughout the tournament. So, yeah, I do believe, you know, I don’t think you and I don’t think you have to have one player is better. I think they’re that close nowadays. There’s not one player better. It’s not like in basketball and Jordan was better than everybody on any given some nights. Leon Dry settle is the best player. A couple years ago he was the best player in the league. Cuchov has been the best player in the league. So I just don’t think there’s the separation. I know in Edmonton we love Conor McDavid and we get seeing it so special, but there’s not the separation that there used to be between Gretzky and everyone, Mario and everyone, Bobby and everyone. these players. There’s so much talent now and there’s not much difference on any given night between Connor McKinnon, Leon Cutro, Kale Mar of those players, Quinn Hughes. So to me, I think there’s Connor and and McKinnon are equally the best player in the world right now. And that would be a change, which means the quiz question was probably pretty on point and pretty timely because, you know, I think conventional wisdom would have been maybe up until this season even with what McKinnon’s doing here that McDavid was kind of that preeminent best player in the world when people say who is the best hockey player on the planet and then maybe there’s been a bit of a shift in that and Nate McKinnon has done enough to pull himself at least into a tie if not ahead. head in a lot of people’s eyes. I thought it was an interesting question. Great debate, great points, guys. Zubie, you can chime in as people are chiming in on the poll for the rest of the show. Whatever uh I I’ve been able to track it here, but whatever conversations people are having, interested to hear what people have had to say as well. Uh that was our taking a lap segment brought to you by Riverside Motor Sports. All right, let’s talk some Chappelle last night, shall we? In Struty’s World. Roll the animation, buddy. When you make a mistake, heads should roll. It’s not right. And I’m here. Someone has to put their foot down. Now that I say it out loud, it does sound a little crazy. Got to look good. I couldn’t wait to get to that concert last night. D see Dave Chappelle. I’m a huge fan of his. I think that he is a comedic genius and and it’s the topics he covers. I love you. Yeah. Love you, buddy. For what? What do you want to talk about? Nothing. Just stay focused and perform. Okay. Eckling shouldn’t throw you off. Yeah. Well, no, I can’t see your face. Okay, hold on. Let me Let me restart. So, I’m a huge fan of his. His his comedic genius is is undeniable. It’s not so much the topics he talks about, which are interesting. It’s his delivery, and he always has a way of throwing something throwing something that is completely out of out of Love you as you go. You’re the best. So, what happens when you go to a concert like that? Is it, you know, there’s an expectation he’s going to bring that? And he and he he started out that way. There’s no doubt about it. There was a heckler that he challenged and kind of took through and took the guy down and then ended up kicking the guy out which I think is fine. Um I think that he engaged with other people and that started embolding him. And the problem is that there was a lot of idiots and not a lot there was a segment of the people there. There was complete idiots that you know can’t handle their drinks, think it’s cool to chirp a guy and try to make themselves the act. They’re not funny. I know these types of guys and quite honestly I ran into some of them at the concourse just absolutely plowed. Thought they were funny. I’m like you’re not funny. I know funny. You’re not a funny guy. If you’re funny you’d be on the stage. You’re not funny at all. But they got they interject themsel into there. So it made it really tough. It made it really tough for Dave Chappelle. And I get it. It’s annoying. But this is the truth. When you are Dave Chappelle, you’ve worked your way up from tiny little nightclubs where there’s probably four people in there watching and three of them were waitresses. And you work your way up. You’ve got heckled. You’ve been through it. And people that come to your concert, we want to see you in action. So I think what Chappelle did is he tossed in the towel. He’s like, I’m done. He went good for about, you know, half of it. Then the last 30, 20, 30 minutes were tough. The last 10 minutes, I was ready to walk out. And there were people that are walking out. It was it was painful. And keep in mind, I love this guy. So he needed to dig in and grind it out. Were there people chirping? Were there problems? Yeah, there were. But you have to come out and bring your best. He didn’t. He just tapped out. I know I probably don’t have the ability to do this or the the the the the wherewithal to make it happen, but I’m removing 150 brownie points from Dave Chappelle for his inability to dig in and grind. I bet you some people that went to that show, guys, you had a bad day yesterday. They had a bad day as well, but they went, they paid to watch him. And when it got hard for Chappelle, he failed. He needs to be a true pro. He didn’t get it done. And I I I think to me I was very disappointed. Now listen, I’m not letting those people off. I’m not letting the people off the hook. There were idiots in there. There was a lot of them. They were idiots. But Chappelle, that’s the game. I’m going to make it one more comparison. Let me finish this off. I went and saw uh Beyonce play at uh Commonwealth in May and it rained the whole night. The whole night. And she was there. She danced. She sang the whole time. I wasn’t a huge fan. Like, not not that I didn’t like her, but I just wasn’t on my radar. She gave it all she could. I was freezing and wet sitting there. She had costume changed. She had high heels on. She was singing her heart out. I’m like, she gave it all she could in terrible conditions. Can I say the same thing for Dave Chappelle? The answer is no. And for that reason, he lost a little bit of love for me. Although I still love him, let’s be honest. Okay. Of all the stuff that you just said there, of all the stuff that you just said there, Beyonce wasn’t on your radar. Have you been living under a rock? Seriously, the queen bee wasn’t on your radar. Come on, it’s Beyonce. But just I know, but I had to go there and that’s a whole another story. I had to go and had a dance. I didn’t know the words. Like, I just don’t get off track. My point is Beyonce was a true pro under difficult circumstances. Last night, Chappelle wasn’t under different but similar difficult circumstances. And for that, it was a fail. You know, St. You know what it reminds me of? When you told that story. Do you remember you and I had to do a hot stove and some little town? We’re up on stage. Is that where it was? And there were there were like people were talking. We had one microphone. We were passing back and forth. People at the back room. They’re all having fun talking. Nobody was listening to us try to tell stories. That was the hardest night of my life ever doing a hot stove. But you know what? We persevered. You and I. Did Did we give in? We didn’t give in. I remember there was people dancing while we were doing our thing and we didn’t stop. And I don’t think we made as much as Chappelle did last night. So I think I think Chappelle dropped the ball. I don’t think But I mean he has a history a little bit of of of you know that. But I honestly I just think he the his fans deserve better. The queen bee did it. He did it. So, uh, by the way, it’s not so easy. Like you you had a performance you were ready to make tonight in Struty’s world. I knew you had it planned out. You were going to hit it out of the park. You were wanting to bring it for the people. You were wanting to do your best. I would say you had a subpar performance under some heckling tonight in Struty’s World. Like, you got thrown right off. So, couple things. Number one, Dave Chappelle could see these people. He could see them and he was, you know, he’s he’s had that before. I I’m guessing he’s been heckled once or twice in his career. Of all the times we’ve done Struty’s World, I’ve never had been once interrupted. So, it’s a totally different. If you want to heckle me next time, go for it. I’ll be ready next time. And I can’t see your face. So, it’s not even the same. It’s not even the same. B. Uh, so let me ask you this. So, I won’t say who, but I had this debate with somebody who was there last night, and the point they made was, and I wasn’t there, strutddy, so I’m asking your thoughts on this point. Dave Chappelle is Dave Chappelle. He is who he is. He’s uber famous because of who he is, right? Dave Chappelle is not Beyonce. Dave Chappelle is not going to fight through anything and everything that a certain audience chooses to throw at him. He’s got a little attitude. He’s got a little bite. And what what he’s got a little up yours, which makes him a great comedian. So, in an ideal world, would it be great if he was able to power through? Yeah. Did you really expect that knowing who Dave Chappelle is and what his general attitude is? And he’s not a guy you do that to cuz he’s like, I don’t need to be here up your He’s probably got a little bit of that in him. You can’t do that to Dave Chappelle is the point. Yeah, I I I listen, I get it. But does it make it right? You know, we were his fans as well. There’s 15,000 people in there, whatever it was. Let’s say there’s 100 people doing the wrong thing. Yeah, I get it. Maybe they could have kicked him out quicker. I I don’t know. And I get it. I listen, I’m still If Dave Chappelle comes back, I’m still going. I’m going to go back. I quite honestly, he’s probably never coming back to him because of these ideas. Let’s be honest. So, I’ll probably have to go somewhere else to watch him. Uh but I just think your fans deserve better. I I really do. I really do. Um, you know, I’ve said the same when in the NBA when a guy is not playing because of general body soreness or uh load management, I think that’s a load of you know what. That’s what I think it is cuz kids are coming to watch you. So, I think your fans deserve better. And I I know who he is. I get it. I know what it’s all about. Um, and I I’m not Don’t like There’s some people in the stream suggesting I’m letting the idiots off the hook. I am not. They were idiots and I you know you I know the look. I’ve seen them whatever. Just complete idiots and they think they’re heroes. But it it it ruined it and Chappelle needs a fight through and he didn’t. So here we are. It was, you know, I’ve sour taste. I’ve been trying to rinse this taste out of my mouth all day by listening to his specials and it’s helped because he is funny. He’s a really really funny guy. But yeah, last night didn’t go very well for anyone. Love it. That was a fabulous edition of Shreddy’s World brought to you by DLR Vinyl Products. Ah, would you ruin the damn show? Uh, Brownie, you’re done, buddy. You get to go. All right, guys. It was fun, Studdy. I thought you did a fantastic job despite the hecklers. Thanks for powering through. That’s what I do. You’re a real Beyonce. You’re a real Beyonce, buddy. Okay. Uh, that was uh Struty’s World. See you, Brownie. Bye-bye. He gone. Before we get to break, uh, let’s dive into our scoreboard here. Um, the Maple Leafs are starting to get healthy. They win 51 in uh Carolina. Pretty big game. The the big story though to me is Joseph Wall left the game. Um I saw that with something. So I don’t know. I didn’t see the update since we came on. So if something but anyways he left uh the game. Um the Flames do though what it was a a favor. Kind of a favor. They beat the Wild 4-1. Four goals for the Flames. That is a lot of goals for that group. So congrats to them to get it done. The Blackhawks they win a stingy game 2-1 versus uh the Kings. In that game, Conor Bernard had his How is he up to now? 18 goals. Did I say uh 18 goals? Yeah, I should never doubt myself. That’s where he’s at. And then a little bit closer at home, the Pred. They somehow find a way to beat the uh Panthers 2-1 in overtime. So, they got a win, which is nice. And then finally, the Penguins beat the Lightning 4-3 uh in that one. Malcin got the game winner. All right, that is your scoreboard brought to you by the Bridge Sports Therapy and Training. When we come back, ask us anything. Stay with us. Lots more ahead here on Got Your Back. Why would you? Hop on in here, Zubie, and let’s wrap up that poll. Oh, yes. Let’s I’ll click the button on that. But I can tell you that the winner of who needed this game the most. I thought we had another segment still. So I’m sitting here still waiting to kind of peruse through and whittle down the ask us anything segment which has been very good. And I hadn’t closed the poll yet. But the poll results are as follows. Who needed this game the most? The answer resoundingly the fans 41%. Um Conor McDavid coming in second at 29%. Matt Seavoy third 24% and Zach Heyman fourth 6% 382 votes well over 500 people on the stream here all night. Um so very cool busy nice I’ve got I’m want Oh I want to hit that 1,000 sound effect so bad. It seems like it’s usually only in playoffs. We’re ticking up. We’re ticking up here. Little early in the season. But yeah, by all means tell a friend. Tell them to hop on and send their comments in. We love our live audience. Subie. you can get grabbing some of those uh ask us anything comments. Struds, just so you know, Struds, I text Brownie and I was like, “Hey, Struds is doing the Chappelle concert in his Struties world. Should we heckle him?” And he’s like, “That would be so funny.” And then he didn’t heckle you. Only I did. So I look like the ass hat. He didn’t do it. We were supposed to both be doing it. Yeah. No, he’s fact. No, listen. It’s it’s a it was an interesting experiment for sure to do it, but one I’ve never seen before. Now I’ll be ready though. Now next time I’m just going to plow right through. You just stopped. You completely stopped and then you were like, “Hang on a second. I’m going to start again.” Imagine if Chappelle did that last night. I’m gonna start that joke again. But I didn’t know if maybe maybe my mic was off or something like that or something was going on, right? It was a technical problem. So, I was like, “Okay, I got to just be in here.” So, diligent. No, I I they’re not the same at all. Anyways, I don’t want to argue about it. I love Dave Chappelle, but I was disappointed thoroughly last night. Um, Brownie did let a couple big gap laughs go in the middle of it, which is of course not heckling, but I do think he was trying. That’s important. That’s He’s being supportive of Struds now. Struds thinks he’s funny. That’s not the same thing. He hung me out to dry with that one. Listen, I’ll tell you this. I was a well after the So there’s four comedians. I was the fifth funniest person in that building last night. Okay. All the idiots screaming. No, it’s true. I I was the fifth funniest. I have no doubt in my mind. I could have been the opener for the opener. I would have been fine in there. Hey everyone, my arms retired from flying down here. That was your opening joke at the I just flew in from Toronto ago. I just flew in from Toronto. My arm retired. That’s a classic. That’s a like guy thinks he can open an arena show. That’s like a Henny Youngman oneliner from 1953 or whatever. It’s been on fire. Okay. Fifth funniest fifth funniest person in that building. All right. What do we got? Zubs. All right. Well, um the some of the people maybe we did not talk about. Uh Aaron St. Pierre said Seavoy looked great with dry cidle and Mia Aani looked much more comfortable in the bottom six. Agree or disagree? Joe, let me gauge your facial expression here, Shagg. Agree or disagree with that statement specifically about Majup Pani. Yeah, I mean, sure, he’s he’s better placed in the bottom six, but his puck skills are just like he’s handling the thing like a grenade strud, so I’m I’m not there yet with him to start talking about improvement. Yeah. Yeah, that’s wrong. Yeah. Well, I don’t know if it’s quite there. I mean, I there are some other players I might point at with the grenade on their stick. Um, yeah, you know, I I I as I was watching the game, I actually was like, okay, he’s he’s getting around in there and he, you know, he had the goal, but we got to keep in mind last year he was a third line player for Washington. Um, and maybe that’s what he is, right? Maybe we have to accept the coaching that was given to him by um the Washington group and he was a third line player. Maybe maybe that’s we have to accept that that’s that’s his number now. You know, he had the nice shot today. That was a good shot. Didn’t go in, but it was a nice shot. Give him credit. Okay, I’m going to summarize because a number of people brought up this player tonight, but I’m going to give uh I’ll give the hammer here to Gong Show who said, “In the past few games where more Oiler players are playing better, what to do about the Trent Frederick problem that isn’t showing any progress?” Do you feel like that’s the case, Shreddy? Is he is he not showing progress while the other players seem to be some of them finding another gear? Yes, there are spark in other players that uh we’re not seeing with Trent Frederick. And I you know people have got all these ideas about what to do with him. You know, I I think a lot of it right now is between his ears, right? He’s got to find um I guess review and and remember what made him the player he was uh you know when the owners traded for him. Yeah. there there may be some speed issues there with his feet or with his his foot that’s still bothering him. And I I’d be really interested to know what the team like the coaching staff or even the the off ice staff like the the the strength team and then the skills coaches are they spending time with them because he had a chance today just couldn’t quite knock it in front like it wasn’t an elite chance it was more like a rebound but man I was hoping that’d go in for him. I I believe in this player and I’m not I’m not coming off that, but he is not even close to where he should be or can be. Um, and I think it’s going to take time to dig out of it. Well, and I’m here to tell you like nothing’s happening with this player. Like they’re not they just they just handed him a contract that means they believe in him long term. And though the results have not been what they would like in the early going, there they view Trent Frederick as a long-term bet, a long-term investment and there’s nothing you can do in this situation, right? You’re not going to trade them. Other teams aren’t going to be like, “Yeah, for sure that’s not happening.” Um, so they’re not going to take a bad 30ame stretch and change their mind on a guy they bet on for eight years. So there’s not even a point to start thinking about what solutions are in terms of moving him or anything like that. Just don’t even waste your time. It just becomes about Trent Frederick needing the time and space to find his game. They believe he’s the person and player that will figure it out. We’ll all sit back and watch and see. Okay, we’re going to go a little bit of tinfoil hat here, but only because more than one person brought this up very specifically. And I have to admit, I noticed it, but I didn’t really think anything of it. Um, uh, I believe that was Pickard’s last game. The hug at the end by Stu and him was very different. And I had someone else from the Twitter say, “Ryan, the way Pickard hugged Skinner at the end, is that not a signal of him being done?” Did either of you guys, Shasher, you can go first. Did you see anything? Do you think there could be anything going on? I mean, I didn’t see the hug at the end because at that point I’m down below and we’re getting ready to go do postgame. So, I’ll see if I can find it. I’m not sure if it’s online or not. Um, what would be the reason for that? And how would the players know about that already? Yeah, that’s a good point. like what would be the if they’ve decided well they’re going to bring someone up from the miners which I don’t I don’t know that they would necessarily be feeling they needed to do um I don’t know I’m open to the idea that I could be missing it but I don’t think so I don’t think so I too missed the hug I don’t usually watch the hugs postgame but um what I do believe to be true is that this management group hasn’t done a a panic move at all yet they’ve been very calm. So, and they and if you a lot of the insiders are saying they’re not going to do a lateral move, right, for another goalie unless there’s an improvement, they’re not going to do that. So, this team is starting to go in the right direction. Um, I think they’re going to let it breathe for a while and let this work up. Now, if Connor Ingram was absolutely just destroying the AHL, we could be having a different conversation, but he too was trying to work his way back to his form. Okay. Okay. And for the record, we’ve got Oilers Forever says, “Skinner did that last start as well. I saw the same hug.” Uh Mars Boy said, “I think he was just reassuring him that the last goal wasn’t on him.” Nolinsky said that could have just been he would have known the save percentage would have been over 900 without that last goal. And somebody else said, “I think maybe he just misses Vinnie’s hug.” So, could be nothing. I just thought it was inter. I felt like I I saw something different, but that wasn’t my interpretation of it. So, I don’t see it. I I don’t see trading Calvin Pickard or or sending him to the miners or exposing him to waiverss. I don’t see that as an answer when the team looks like it’s finally going to start defending properly and his recent starts have been decent. Like what kind of timing is that? That just doesn’t make sense to me. Struds, why wouldn’t they let this thing continue to turn in the right direction and see what their goalenders game does along with it? So, it doesn’t make sense to me. It couldn’t be more right. All right, Canadian really wanted me to ask you guys this question, so I’m going to It might be kind of a deeper, more existential. He says, um, “How hard do you think the two cup losses and absence of a cup weigh on McDavid mentally? Obie didn’t win it until age 32, but always seemed to have fun. At times it feels like 97 is a prisoner until he wins one. I guess a, you know, a prisoner to his own being able to take the shackles off and have fun.” Do you think that’s an ongoing thing that affects Conor’s play, Strutddy? I think he’s very driven to to win a Stanley Cup. And I think quite honestly, it’s not just a Stanley Cup. I’m guessing he wants, you know, a couple. Uh, but you got to start with one. So, I I think that but even if he won a Stanley Cup, I still think he’d be programmed a lot of the same way to be pushing and always looking for way to get better and all that kind of stuff. I don’t see him letting off the gas when it goes. So, I I can’t get into his head. I I really have no idea, but just from what I see, I think he is going to be driven till the last second he plays in the NHL to win. Yeah, great point, Studdy. I I think, and again, we’re kind of you’re crawling into his head. It’s not really fair to do that. But based on what I know of him, I would be comfortable saying my guess is Conor McDavid will be a different person player when he gets that first Stanley Cup. That the weight will come off of him in a way that I think maybe allows him to enjoy the ride a little more and stress about the ride a little bit less. Like Conor McDavid is going to measure himself against the greatest players that have ever played the game. It’s just the way he’s wired. And the one thing he wants no part of is to be by a mile the greatest player in the game to never win a Stanley Cup, right? He wants no part of of of that. This guy has history on his mind. When he gets that first one, my guess would be in some ways he’ll be able to he’ll be able to relax a little bit. Now, I think he’ll be hungry and I think he’ll want more and I think he’ll push and and be ravenous the way Nathan McKinnon is ravenous for a second one, right? Apparently McKinnon is, you know, not afraid to make people miserable around him to try and get to where he wants to go in a good teammate kind of way, like a grinding kind of way. But I can’t help but think, struds, that the weight that comes off will be notable when McDavid gets his first one. Yeah, I think that’s a really good point. I mean, he’s he is driven. He’s very driven. Yeah, great question though. Um on the uh and going back to the quiz question too, uh I would say the consensus largely was people saying McKinnon slightly behind Conor McDavid, but there were a couple of interesting comments that took the uh other side of that Apple iPhone 17. Thanks for the plug. I love McDavid, but Mac is better right now. He’s outsc scored him three years in a row. How many more years does McKinnon have to outscore him before he’s better? also has a Stanley Cup. Um, Kayla Weatherthornne says, “You all are going to hate me for this and it makes me throw up in my mouth a little saying it, but 29 is the best player on the planet.” McKinnon, the most complete player, no question. And uh, KJK on the other side, McDavid is still ahead. He makes plays that I have never seen in over 40 years of watching hockey. And there was a good one other good one here. Oh, Balding Barber, great name. Says, “No one asks, is X player better than McKinnon? It’s always the comparison is always to McDavid. So, I thought that was kind of an interesting way to look at it as well. Any anywhere else you guys want to go on that or shall I move on to uh push through? We appreciate everybody’s opinion on that. I think more than anything, it’s just really interesting that it is a fair conversation to be had right now and really it’s a compliment to Nathan McKinnon and where he’s taken his game because uh it’s really been phenomenal. Okay, couple of fun ones here to wind it down here. Oh, one other thing still on hockey. Kayla pointing out very wisely, maybe there’s magic in these alternate jerseys. They’re 2 and 0, I believe, in this alternate pile of goals in this alternate in these alternate jerseys. Strutddy, I know you said you always love the the Rangers third with the crown with the Statue of Liberty head on it. Is there anything to would I know I think these days are already all scheduled, but do the will the guys be feeling good in different unis? That’s it. Just changes it up, right? Brings a different energy to the dressing room. Um, you know, when you see your coach in a white tracksuit wheeling around cream, you’re like, “Wow, that’s a lot of cream color tracksuit coming at you.” But, um, yeah, I I I always got I mean, I wouldn’t I guess excited, you know, when you you because it’s a different helmet. Everything’s different. You kind of like it. Um, okay. Here’s a good one from Nolinsky. Says, “How many people, well, we’ll ask you guys here. Have you ever opened up and rewrapped a present when you were a kid?” And now I know people who did this to every They knew everything they were getting on Christmas morning because they unwrapped and rewrapped everything. Do you guys ever do that? No. Not once. Never. Too much of a conscience. I would have been so rattled. I would have been so afraid of getting caught. I would have been like I was not that kid at all. Zubie, you you little delinquent. I did not. I accidentally found Oh, accidentally in my I don’t I have no idea what I was looking for. It’s funny now as like a parent. It’s like, oh yeah, kids, I better I better maybe I should hide this a little better cuz kids do just go rumaging through your closet. I found my the G.I. Joe tomahawk helicopter that I got in grade four or five. Accidentally found that I then I was so excited for many weeks uh going on to that. Okay. Um a couple of other good Christmas one. Oh, here’s one from Northern Farm Girl. Um do you have any signature favorite dishes for the holidays? You have to have wives make or you make favorites. Do you love ho ho ho punch or bougie fancy drinks? And would you like to try my 133% moonshine? I’m going to pass on the last one. I have tried moonshine before. That’s not good. Uh but what about your the signature or maybe something a little bit different holiday dishes for you guys? What’s the big winner, Shagger? Well, it involves cranberry sauce for sure. I want uh I want perogis. I want cranberry sauce. I want sweet potatoes. Um but really that’s kind of where it ends. Like I’m if the turkeyy’s there, I’m fine with that. I would say we have this thing called Christmas crack, which is that uh it’s that cereal d um what cereal is I can’t remember. Checks, I think. Yeah. Doused in icing sugar with the Smarties and the Oh my go Yeah. Like you cuz I’m a texture guy, right? The texture of that stuff. Oh my god. You could put a tub of that in front of me. I’d keep eating until it was gone regardless of of the consequences. Sounds like our leader is a carb guy, too. Um, no, those all sound really good. Other than the cranberry sauce, which is an outdated, uh, you know, outdated sauce, I suppose. No one really likes it, but um, my wife makes nifty carrots. It’s kind of like, you know, it’s in the oven and they put cheese over top. I think it’s so good. Um, so that’s that’s mine. My my cheese on carrots. That’s a new one to me. I I um Oh man, my wife’s aunt uh dearly departed used to make this um uh Brussels sprout dish but with like a cream sauce and it was off the charts. And uh I’d like to recreate that if we could or I like that or like a green bean casserole like something with like cream soup in there. It’s so bad. just completely ruins any of the uh nutritional value you might get from the vegetables, but it’s not the time of year for that. So, the other thing that comes out at Christmas time that I have a hard time pushing away from the after eight squares, the the mint squares, the after eight mint squares, peeling them out of the little black packaging and popping that in your mouth, the way it like pushes up against the roof of your mouth, it’s nice and cool. The peppermint kind of Yeah, man. The texture of those. It tastes I’m I’m a sucker. I’ll eat I’ll eat I’ll rip through threequarters of a tray of those. I love chocolate. I can’t peppermint chocolate. I can’t even get involved with it. It’s just It’s not even worth it. Oh. All right. This one is uh I think just for me, but you guys can chime in and answer too if you want. Tryant says um how excited are you for John Cena’s last match on December 13th? Cena running the big the big retirement tour here for the past year. You know what, Tisant? Not very. I’ll probably, you know, maybe a four or five. I’ll probably look back on this year in another, I don’t know, five or 10 years and be like, ah, maybe I wish I would have paid a little bit more attention to the Cena retirement tour, but uh I don’t know. It’s it’s been kind of up and down. It’s not Saturday night’s main event. It’s probably against Gunther and he’s Gunther Gunther and he’s probably going to lose. So, I don’t know either. Are you guys uh excited for that? I don’t like Cena as a wrestler. I I don’t know. I just He doesn’t He’s too cleancut. Like, I need a guy with, you know, greasy mustache and maybe five:00 shadow hair that looks like he’ll be bald by the afternoon. Like, I I don’t know. That’s what I want my wrestlers look like. He just looks too clean cut, man. I can’t get behind him. I saw Cena doing some hair replacement surgery advertisements and such as well and he was having that bald spot worked on unless it was AI might have been AI but I don’t know you know what string you’re right in a way but it’s his him with the accountant hairdo does not work at all when he had the flat top and that was like part of his gimmick that kind of worked ever since he’s kind of started doing movies come back with the the accountant hair it uh he hasn’t moved the needle for me. Okay, last one. We’ll give the hammer to Blomber here, who says, uh, in honor of Jack Michaels saying he’d never seen the Matrix movies, nor could he pronounce the word Matrix. Apparently, he called it the Matrix, which is so Oh, boy. So funny. I didn’t see that part of the game. I I didn’t Yeah. Did you pick up on that, Stress? I heard it. I didn’t hear that he mispronounced it. I was like, what’s Cuz the game was out of hand. He’s looking for other topics. I get it. Okay. So anyway, Blomer’s question is, what’s your favorite Keanu Reeves movie? And I guess you can’t say The Matrix. Shagger. I mean, it would be The Matrix. Uh, the first one, the original. If I can’t, I’ll go Point Break. Oh, good one. Yeah, that’s um the John Wick ones. I I like that. He just absolutely kicks ass. Over a dog, though. The whole thing was over a dog. That was a lot for a dog. I I love my dog, buddy. I’d probably have the same type of reaction. Well, probably not, but I’m not trained. I’m not a trained killer. I I might ruffle some feathers here because I’m going to say Bill and Ted to Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey. It’s very rare that a sequel can surpass the original. And Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey is hilarious. I’d probably say The Matrix, too, but I very quotable. Bill and Ted, too. Check it out. Credibility lost with that one. Yeah, sure lost some credibility there, Zubie. All right, that was Ask Us Anything brought to you by BJ Electric. Time now for our play of the day as we wrap up. Brought to you by Modern Measure. Vasily Podkolzin is on pace for 14 goals this season to date given he's in for the full 82. That's on pace to match his rookie campaign with Van. I'm feeling 20 for the "puts goals in". Commentary is correct in the chemistry with Drai coming to fruition and the confidence factor, which slows the game down a tick.
sombebody please gawd get Podkolzin a fvcken set of hands, worst hands in the world!
