Olney: The juiciest rumor I heard this week was the notion that the Mets could push the Phillies for Schwarber

You willing to bet the farm?
I feel like he either goes home to reds or stays with phillies.
If we get Schwarber I feel like alonso is out.
Still waiting on the farm, Buster.
I’d get it for business and baseball reasons and it would open up DH for Soto sooner but getting Schwarber would 100% mean we’d be out on Pete. I feel like none of us would like how that sits.
No.
Please… no.
Get contact hitters and not guys who will probably not play as hard for us after playing for a rival.
Only want Schwarber if he’s in the same lineup as Pete
Save a click:
“Beyond Schwarber’s power and on-base capability — can you imagine pitchers working to get through Schwarber and Soto in the same inning? — he is known as someone who works to pull players together. And hell, even if the Mets don’t believe they can beat the Phillies in the bidding for the slugger, they could push Philadelphia’s cost by being involved, as the Braves did with Aaron Nola two winters ago.“
I know everyone loves Pete, but Schwarber did hit 56 HR last year and posted 4.9 fWAR as a DH vs Pete’s 3.6 fWAR. I still want Pete back ultimately, but Schwarber is not a bad alternative.
I understand the career Met angle and the sentimentality fans feel with Pete. But I’m not in the business of sentimental rings I want World Series rings – you’re more likely to win a World Series with 4 years of Schwarber than you are with 7 years of Pete. So while I wouldn’t be happy to see him go if that’s a trade the Mets made I think it would be the right one.
Lmao Olney is such a clown when it comes to the mets, everyone knows this already and he’s pretending like he’s sharing a huge secret.
I prefer Alonso but this is exactly what they should be doing. Make the Phillies pay as high a price as possible to retain Schwarber.
This is not news, pretty widely understood for a while
I’ll take either but we need 1 of Pete or Schwarber
33 on opening day. plays no defense. coming off a career year. will clog DH spot.
seems odd to endorse this move after so much of the talk around Alonso is “his defense isn’t good, he’s getting older, he’s going to be so expensive”
I want this to go through solely to watch Philly fans lose their minds
I love all gossip this time of year. However I’ll trim my sideburns if this is the path they actually choose
