Chicago Blackhawks vs LA Kings NHL Hockey Live Game Cast & Audio

at defense for the Kings. Kind of a different look here. Brandt Clark along with Drew Downey who’s coming off of an injury that took him out of action for seven games. Up front from left to right, Trevor Moore starts at left wing. Angie Kopitar playing in his 1477th NHL game. He’ll center the Kings opening line. He’s also the Kings captain and starting at the right wing is Adrien Kempe. And for the Blackhawks, it’s Spencer Knight in goal. Spencer won two and one in his career against the Los Angeles Kings. At defense are going to be Louis Krebier and Wyatt Kaiser. And then up front from left to right Able Terrain starts at left wing. Centering the Hawks opening line is going to be Jason Dickinson. And starting at the right wing is Ilia Ma. Our referees this evening are Mitch Dunning and Jake Brink. Handling the lines are Travis Tumi and Trent No. So, this is the second of three games between these two teams and the third one will be coming up on Saturday night as we have a pair of games here in LA. Now, we’ll get to Steve. Who are you banking on tonight, Steve? Sponsored by Marquette Bank. Love where you bank. Celebrating 80 years of neighborhood banking. Yeah, a little bit off the board. I’m going with young Alex who I thought played really well in that game against the Vegas Golden Knights. He had nine shot attempts. Four shots on net four were blocked and one missed shot. So, uh, he’s a great skater. I think he’s going to bring his speed against the LA Kings. I think he’s going to use his shot. He’s got an underrated shot. So, that’s the guy I’m banking on. I just got to say, you took the words right out of my mouth. Underrated shot. You’d love to see Alex Lassic shoot the puck more often. He’s a team guy. So, there going to be times where he’s going he’s going to think, “Okay, maybe I shouldn’t shoot right now. I I’ll pass to a teammate who might be a better position.” But sometimes you feel like telling him, “Hey, be a little selfish. Go ahead. Be greedy.” Yeah. And I think they saw that last game. It was Ben Sutton who took that shot that was going 3 ft wide. Ends up inadvertently going off a couple of bodies and then into the Blackhawk net. Good things happen when you shoot. I think Alex Delassic will realize that. All right. The Blackhawks have been above 50% on draws in their last two games. Both Pacific Division opponents, Anaheim and Vegas, respectively. This is another Pacific Division uh opponent. And the LA Kings faceoff win percentage as a team team is only slightly better than the Blackhawks. So yeah, surprising because they’ve got some great center by field Deno who of course Blackhawk fans know very well normally very good in the faceoff do but yeah they haven’t been as good this year. We go down to center ice Jason Dickinson who was very good the other night in Vegas. He’ll take this opening face off against Anzie Kopitar and the crowd late filing in. And it’s Los Angeles, folks. The traffic is unbelievable on the freeways. You think it’s bad in Chicago? Come out here. Oh jeez. All right, here we go. Kopitar and Dickinson face off to get her started. The drop of the puck and Dickinson wins it decisively. Back to Kaiser who fires it off the end boards and in behind the King net. Keer slots the puck into the far corner. Dowy clears it up the boards but held in by Kaiser. left point down to Terrain and along the left wing boards to McKaya. Back in the net to Dickinson right corner put a pass out to the right point for Krebier. That pass handcuffed him a bit and ends up at center ice. Now Terrain and dumps the puck over the left wing corner and the king end. Dowy there to get it in front of McKay. Slots it behind the net. Clark spins it up the near side where Krebier fires and a pad save made by Keer. Lose puck in the right wing corner. Terraine and wins the battle for the puck momentarily and then lost it. And Kopitar takes the puck back, moves it across the rink. Adrien Keente over the hawk line on the right wing. Chips to the slot. The more put to the crease and a nice play backing. McKay got just enough of Kempe stick to knock the puck away and it ends up back at center ice. Yeah, it’s a good idea that he came back hard. That almost looked like a nothing play that turned into something. It was a partial twoon-one. Good stick by McKay. Clinton Biffield down the left wing side. Hawk shot it through the crease and wide. I think the Kings like that play where they just flip the puck into the crease and look for chaos. Loose puck along the far boards. Taken away by the Kings. Here’s a shot from Fiala from the slot. And that hit Knight up high. Mikey Anderson put it out to the high slot. Fiala with a drive and a glove save made by Spencer Knight who’s going to hold on to it there. Whistle stopping playw face off in the Hawk zone. This will be in the circle to Knight’s right. Yeah, Kevin Fiala did score against the Blackhawks. The last two times or the last time these two teams played that was back October 26. It was actually uh the gamewinning goal and Kevin Fiala maybe not the player he used to be when he played for the Minnesota Wild. 39 goals one year with Minnesota and they are looking for him to heat up. He has not had a very productive season. Uh well not bad but hasn’t been great season so far. I think Fiala would be a prime guy for that team Switzerland for the Olympics coming up. Swiss player base circle as I said to the right of Knight. Brian Green steps in to take this draw against Joel Arma who’s having a career season for LA. He leads the NHL in short-handed goals with three. This draw won by the Hawks. Here’s Green into the LA right side. Fires. Butterfly save is made by Keer who was a little unsure. I think he’s hurt. And I was just going to say he looks a little awkward in that crease. We get an icing call here to LA. And Keer looks like he’s going to try and skate off the owie, so to speak. Yeah, I mean that just looked awkward all around. the rebound, the the the the uh no rebound control whatsoever and he just looked a little shaky getting up and he was shaking that left leg. I think he’s okay. You know, he got bumped into by his own guy, too. Maybe that had something to do with it. A circle to the left of Keer. Conor Bernard facing off with Quenton Biffield. And now Badard’s been tossed off the dot. Oh no, they let him come back in there. Okay, Biffield a very big guy. And Bard beat him with the draw. Left chin off in the right point. Backs up and fires and that hit Green in the slot. Puck taken by Burkovski. Right circle runs into a check. Green works the puck free to the corner. Was jostled off of it there. Fiala took the puck away and he’ll skate it to the right wing side of the King zone. Pass to Biffield at center ice. He’ll dish it ahead to Arma at the hot glue line on the right wing side on a delayed offside situation. Then Arma shovels the puck into the Hawk zone. Badar took it away to Lechinoff. Then out to Burakovski at center ice. Flips it over to Green in front of the Hawk bench. He’ll flip it down in behind the Hawk net. Taken away by Blaskic who shot it away up the board. Not out. And now Leinoff clears to the line. Picked up by Burkoski at the end of his shift. He’s through center over the King line. Stopping in the high slot. Holding. Tried to fire toward the net. That’s blocked out high and Andre Kusme there is to get it. He’ll move it out to center ice on the left wing and it’s taken there by Alex Leferier and then he gave it back to Kizmeo. He turned it over back into the King zone. Kings regroup. Ryan Dumlain and now beside the net Cody Cece clears it up towards non out held in by little slot. Donado firing a shot and that’s over the net. Donado got a good backhander away. Here’s McKaya behind the net. Put it in front. Nazar shoots. Oh, down is Keer to make the save. There was Donado on the rebound to try and jam it home, but Keer stopped that as well with the glove. Well, really nice pass by Elie McKay who really started this play at the offensive blue line. He jumped the pass and he kept the play inside LA zone and originally it was Donado who ended up with a shot getting blocked but May from behind the net out front to Frank Nazar who we talked about and you talked about it to head coach Jeff Blashel the scoring draw he’s been through. Couple of good looks from in close again. I don’t think he got everything on that shot that he wanted, Steve. Early on, it looks like he’s doing the right things like getting to the right spots on the ice to score those goals. Absolutely. And using his speed. He is a lot faster than people realize. Oh, Wyatt Kaiser chips the puck off the glass to center ice. Cory Perry took it there. Sends it over to Brent Clark. He’s into the Hawk zone. Right point, send it across left point to Perry. Perry moving down to the left corner. Backhands one in front of the net. That hit a Bobby and slides below the goal line. Perry all tied up there by McKay, but now has the puck in behind the net. Put his backside into McKay who’s just relentless in the checking there. Perry turns to fire a shot that’s stopped away by Knight. Loose puck in the right wing circle. Philip Dano. He moves it away along the right wing boards. That’s Turkot from Elgrove Village. Dumps the puck into the far corner. McKaya for the Hawks will carry at center ice then had it pul checked away by Clark just short of the LA blue line. Puck tumbles back into the LA zone to Dowy. teams make line changes. Dowy to Clark along the right wing boards to Trevor Moore over the hot line down the right wing. Classic reaching in. Pope checks the puck away. Hands it ahead to Nazar. He’ll break through center over the King line. Drew at the right point and Oliver Moore will flip it across. Gusi from the left circle fires. One of the Kings got a stick in there. That’s CC knocking it away and the puck spun away by Dolan down to the hot glue line. Lassic back to take it in front of Kopitar. moves it ahead now to Nazart of Lassic over to King Line down the left wing side. He angles it off the endboards behind the net. There beside the right circle he flips it right point. Arch him left off. He’ll move it back down the boards behind the net. Ends up in the left wing corner. Nazar kicks it out of the corner but then taken away by Cece ahead to Trevor Moore. One against three Hawks to center ice and he’ll dump the puck into the right wing corner. Hawk in Matt Gri back to beat him to it. Folks it behind the net around to left off on the near side. Now Grizzlick takes over. Got it ahead Bard. Cutting through center over the King line to the right lane circle then to the halfboards. A back pass to the high slot and a one-timer by Sam Renzel. Kicked out of there by Keer here. The Kings the other way. Arma through center to Bfield over the hot line. Left wing side to Joel Edmonson along the right boards. He’ll fire a pass. Save made by Knight. Follow up by Anderson for the left point. Put it down to the corner to Biffield. He’ll st the puck behind the net for Arma. Checked off the puck by the Hawks. at Grizzlick and the puck cleared down to the King blue line. Here’s Biffield taking a hit from Renzel just inside the Hawk line. Turn the puck over. Grizzlick will carry behind the net and whips it up the right wing side. Andre Burkoski at center ice hands it off to Bard coming by over the King line down the right wing side from the corner. He fires. Shoulder save. Puck tumbles up the slot. Conor Murphy fires that block. Here’s Bertusi in the left wing corner. Shakes a check from Bfield. Bertusi back to the left point, but the puck folks it toward the net. It was blocked in front by Anderson. Murphy to the puck in the left wing corner for the Hawks. Chips it the side the net and Mikey Anderson gathering it in and escapes will kick the puck to a stick. Carried to center ice and then he had a stick slash by Colton Doc. Could have been a penalty. Nothing called. Doc escapes with a puck down the right wing into the King zone. Carries behind the net to the left wing corner. Sets up the left point. Kaiser moves it right point. Murphy down to the right wing corner. Now McKaya the Kaiser high slot over to Murphy. Top of the left circle. Guns it to the net. The glove save is made by Keer. He’ll hold on in the Kings grease. We’ve had some good action early on. 1342 left in period number one out here in LA. No score, Hawks and Kings. This is Blackhawks hockey on 720 WGN. Hey hockey fans, it’s Chris Chelios. Catch Lisa Den weekday afternoons at 2. Now back to the action. Well, hockey is better at the United Center. The Blackhawks return home on Wednesday, December 10th for an original six Centennial matchup against the New York Rangers. Both teams will be sporting their Centennial jerseys. So, it’s not a game you want to miss. Secure your spot today at blackhawks.com/tick. And that New York Ranger team, they were maligned for not winning games on home ice and then they kind of picked it up. Our Tammy Paneran still there. He’s been the subject of a few trade rumors of late, but I don’t know. But I’m not exactly sure how that would all play out. Well, you know what they do have there besides Panera in his goalending. Shurken still one of the tops in the NHL. Off the draw. Here’s Donado taking a pass from the left point from Murphy. Turned to fire and that shot was blocked. Lefar into the Hawk zone. Held up just a bit. Murphy takes the puck in front of the net. Put it up the left wing. Oliver Moore to Ryan Donado in front of the Hawks bench. Shot rink wide. Colton Doc into the King zone. Right circle wipes it in on goal and a six save made by Keer. This puck taken by Warren Fogle. Turned it over the high slot to Doc. He’ll fire. Blocker save made by Keer. Grizzly hit along the farboards by Leferier who takes the puck, clears it down ice. Let’s see what we’re going to get. Icing is the call. Well, tonight’s coaches challenges are sponsored by Northwestern Medicine with eight specialties ranked among the top 10 in the nation by US News and World Report. The teams at Northwestern Medicine offer second opinions for the toughest conditions. And how about the start the Blackhawks have had. I’ve got nine shots. Officially, they have eight up on the board. I’ve got them with nine shots, though just about seven minutes into this hockey game. So, I think this is the kind of start the Blackhawks wanted. Darcy Keer, you mentioned earlier, they don’t give up a lot of shots. He didn’t see a lot of biscuits. And at this rate, well, he’ll see plenty of shots, especially after the icing call. And the Hawks clean faceoff win left through the high slot. Flips it over left wing point there to Blic, but it’s off his stick. Now a pass up ice from Kzmeo ahead for Fo off his stick and down behind the Hawk net. Knight clears it away on the left wing side. Burkovosski little dish to Green ahead over the King line. Left wing cut back across the rink. Here’s Baddard. Top of the right circle. Fed it across to the left circle for Baroski. But the Kings Adrien Kempe took it away. He’ll break through center over the hot blue line and runs into Baddard behind the Hawk net and off the puck. Here’s Burkovski back the other way up the right wing to center ice. drops the puck off there to the guard over the King line. Moving in, he’ll fire. That shot is off the skate of Anderson. Tumbles in behind the King net. Edmonson put it to the far corner. Barovsky’s got it there for the Hawks. Carrying behind the net to the right wing corner to Lechin off along the right sideboards. Slaps it down behind the King net, but it’s picked off there by Anderson heading the Copitar up the left wing side and he’s able to push it to center ice, but Wyatt Kaiser comes along and takes the puck away from everybody and dumps it into the right wing corner. King zone. The Hawks are in the midst of a line jam. You know, this all started because Alex blasted 30 seconds ago in his own zone. Took Adrian Kenty one-on-one, stripped him of the puck. They got it going the other way with Connor Bard. And uh a nice shift by Chicago up ice. Now back in the King zone. Edmonson tried to clear, held in by McKay, left point. Hands it off to Dickinson beside the left circle. He shot it across to the right circle. This is picked off by the Kings and taken back by Terrain to MV in the right wing corner to Kreb right point. bombs away from there and a glove save made by Keer. He’ll hold on and a whistle stops play. Unfortunately for Louis Creier, you know, I think you have the right idea, Steve, but unfortunately there was no traffic in front of Keer. Yeah, and Darcy Keer, a big guy and without any traffic, he’s going to make that stop even with a guy like Louis Corvier who’s got a bomb 95% of the time. Of course, Darcy Kemper might be familiar name to Blackhawk fans. He won a Stanley Cup with the Colorado Avalanche back in I believe it was 2022. That’s correct. Been around a little bit though. Spent some time uh the Washington Capitals. This is his second go round with the LA Kings and he’s happy to be back here. He’s a guy that uh spent some time in the minors too, working on his game and just never gave up and his his reward was that Stanley Cup in Colorado for sure and an extended career in the NHL. Meanwhile, back in the King zone, CC fires the puck off the glass to center ice. Oliver Moore brought it back into the King zone. Drops it to Nazart. He’ll put the puck to the right wing corner. Brian Doolan took it there for LA. Works it ahead. Here’s Turkot to center ice to Dano over the hot glue line on the left wing side. The former Hawk with no goals in 26 games. Tried to backhand the puck and now came back to Dano. He’ll fire from the left circle. Blocker saved by Knight. Penalty coming up here to the Hawks. Dumalan top of the left circle to Deno in the high slot. Back to Dumlan left point. King’s net empty at the far end. Duman walks it into the right wing circle. Hands of Cody Cece. Tough angle shot. He sent it over and Cory Perry fires from beside the Hawk net. That’s deflected wide. Still have a delay. Perry put the puck out to the left point to to Deno to Kopitar at the line in the deep slot. Kopitar holding. Put it over now to Trevor Moore at the right point. Actually Brian Doulan walks it over. gave it to Dano beside the left circle to the slot Perry. He backs up toward the blue line. Hands it over to Duman along the left sideboards near the point. Duman dishes over to Perry near the right point. He’ll fire. Kick save made by Knight and Moore reaching for the puck. Could not get to it. Held in by the Kings. Turkot to Dano left corner to Turkot back of the net. Back to Dano now on the halfboards to Dumlan left point. He’ll move it over to CC right point down to Copitar right wing corner. Still a delay penalty. Put it over. Left circle pass for Dano and Bertusi gets control of it with a dive. Knocks it out to center ice and the whistle blows. Interference is the call. Hawks will be killing one off here and I believe Matt Grizzlick is going to be the one to go. 48. Two minutes for interference. Yeah, Matt Grizzlick the guilty party. Boy, that was an extended uh extra man for the LA Kings. Darcy Kemper realized the delayed penalty. He vacated the net and for a good 3540 seconds, LA Kings had control of the puck and more importantly now the Chicago Blackhawks penalty killers will be tested. Although this power play for LA not real good, ranking 30th in the NHL, an area certainly they want to get better at. LA has also surrendered four short-handed goals. So we’ll see if the Hawks can seize on that opportunity at any point. Face off to the right of Knight. Controlled by the Hawks. Lassic will take the puck behind the net. skate out the left wing side and clear it all the way down. So important, John, to winning faceoffs when you’re short-handed because chances are you’re going to get a clear. Chances are you’re going to eat 10, 15 seconds off the clock and that’s exactly what they’ve done. Kopitar through center ice got it to Fial left wing corner back pass to the left point to Dowy down to Kempe beside the left wing circle. Put it over off the right circle and then Blic reaching pokes it to center ice. He’ll grab the puck short-handed over the King line down the left wing. He stops with the puck along the halfboards and then spins it down behind the king net. And now he’ll head to the bench in a change. Fiala carries out to his line. Drops it there to Kempe through center to Fia Hawk line. Nice play by Creier stepping up the Pope. Check it ahead to Dickinson. Short-handed over the King line. Top of the right circle. Guns it in on goal and Keer’s down with a butterfly save. Whistle staff play 110 on the King power play with 909 left in the first period. Scoreless for LA. John, that’s a really good save by Darcy Kemper because Eli MB was heading hard to the net. He somehow absorbed that into his blocker just above his blocker and his arm. And if that comes off his body, MAB is right there to pounce on it. So good short-handed opportunity for the Blackhawks. We now have 10 shots just over 11 minutes or just under 11 minutes into this first period. And again, we see the reach of Louis Creier. All 6’8 of him there. He’s got one of the longest sticks in the NHL. Nice poke check right at the hog blue line there. Face off circle to Keer’s left. Leferier against McKay. Axley Dickensson wins the draw. Krabby right point. Hammers a shot and this deflects off of Brent Clark. He’s shaking his left foot. That one had to sting. This goes up into the protective netting. And my apologies to Kevin Fiala. Earlier I saying it was a frustrating year for him. It hasn’t been a frustrating year. His 10 goals are tied for the most. It’s been a frustrating last three weeks. Just one goal in his last eight games. He had nine goals in his first 18 games. So, he got the start he wanted. Lately, it’s been a little tougher for him, but uh Kevin Fiala always a very exciting player to watch. Seems like one of those guys, Steve, that once he gets it rolling, he’ll pour in a whole bunch of them, you know. Exactly. Inside the King zone. Brent Clark nearly stripped of the puck by Jason Dickinson, but Biffield there to bail him out. Delari air center ice sticks it off the boards behind the Hawk around to the near side. Krebier tried to whack it out from the corner. Puck comes free in the corner to Kaiser. Now the creier to Dickinson along the right boards outlets to Ilia McKay at center ice being chased by Lefer. Hacked and whacked the whole time. That easily could have been a minor for slashing but no penalty called in front of the King’s bench. McKay gives the puck a poke back into the King zone and then he’ll get off on a change. 27 seconds on the King power play. By field to center ice shot it into the Hawk zone. Picked off by Louis Krebier and he’ll clear it all the way down. A lot of Blackhawk fans here, John some cheers when they stop that rush by the power play of LA. Now here’s a pass ahead for Cory Perry into the Hawk, but it bleeds off his stick and right in on Knight. Whacks it free to the nearboards. Clark took it away and now Murphy with some good work took it back for the Hawks. Clears it ahead to Nazar at center ice just as Grizzlick is out of the box and the Hawks are back to full strength. Hawks back to full strength by the way. sponsored by Northwestern Medicine Orthopedics on a relentless pursuit of better medicine. Good kill by the Hawks. Grizzlick with a pass up ice, misses Baddard’s stick and goes all the way down. Icing is the call against the Hawks. Well, that’s a great kill and it all started with a couple of key faceoff wins inside their own zone. And when you win the faceoff, we mentioned it. Get the 200t clear that just upsets everything. It also gives you an opportunity to protect the blue line. And that’s what they did very, very well with LA at the man advantage. They just made it really tough to gain their blue line. Here’s Bard facing off with Dano. Circle to the right of Knight. Bard a little too aggressive. And now they make Philip Deno stand up. They let let him stay in there. And Bard wins another one cleanly to the corner. Grizzllet pushed off the puck by Fogle who put it out in front. Here’s Deno with a backhand and Spencer Knight makes the glove save and then plops on the puck at the top of the crease and holds on. And a real close call on the Hawk in, but Knight kept him out. All right, we’ll take a break. 7:32 left in period number one here in LA. Hawks and Kings, no score. This is Blackhawks hockey on 720 WGN. Sox, it’s WGN, the original social media. WGN. Here’s McKaya firing a pass across the ring for Terrain at center ice on the left wing side. He deflects it down into the king zone. Now a pass by Dowy up ice misses Trevor Moore and a good play by Wyatt Kaiser by the way to not only get back to the dots but get his body in front of Trevor Moore’s body so he couldn’t get there in time. And icing is the call. He’s just a smart player. W Kaiser love talking to him in the morning skates and you know not only is he really quick he’s got good hands but just that that hockey sense and you you mentioned it right there the body position to make sure Moore couldn’t get to that puck he’s always thinking the game faceoff circle to the left of Keer Dan wins this one from Nazar behind the net it goes to Dowy put the puck off the inboards over to Mikey Anderson he’ll give a soft toss up the left wing boards and now they’re going to wave this icing. Lenzel leaves the puck in the corner. Nazar, who put it along the right wing boards to Oliver Moore. Had a beautiful goal in Vegas the other night. He passes on the left wing to Grizzlick at center ice who dumps the puck diagonally into the right wing corner. King zone goes around to Dowy. Left wing corner to Nazar now along the left wing boards. He tried to turn and spin it back to the point. The pass got away from Grizzlick and ends up down ice into the hawk in Sam Renzel’s got it beside the net. Renzel outlets over the center ice circle and Nazar. He chops it ahead for Doc. This is picked off by the Kings. Taken back by the Hawks, Tyler Bertusi, and he’ll just sweep it into the right wing corner in the LA zone. Doc comes in to finish off Duman. That’s his 100th hit this season. Steve, now at the Hawk blue line, Kaiser pokes the puck free to Dickinson along the left boards at center ice in front of the King’s bench. He put it down behind the King net. That thud you heard was Colton Doc’s body going into Tumlan again against the board. So, we’re up to 101. Yeah, he had five hits in the last game. Blackhawks were credited with nine for the entire game. So he had more than half of them. Krabby now near corner hawk zone drives the puck around up the near boards. Donado will shovel it out to center ice. Kempe back checking or backing up I should say in the King zone will drop the puck off to Kevin Fela as the Kings make a line change. Fela takes the puck and loops in behind his net then turns it over at center ice right onto the stick of Burkoski of the Hawks. Back into the Kings own right circle turns to the corner sheds a check there from Edmonson. then lost the puck on the boards. It’s scraped away but taken back by Bard to left off right point to Flask top of the left circle. He sent it toward the net. Hit green stick and stopped there. Flick took it back along the left wing boards to Bard behind the net. Walks out in front. Hands it off to Marovski and a point blank shot is stopped by Keer with a glove save. And I mean just barely. All right, we’re down to 521 left in the first period. Hawks and Kings still scoreless here in LA. This is Blackhawks hockey on 720 WGN. Well, tonight’s broadcast is sponsored by Flight by the Engling. Crisp, refreshing, only 95 calories. Flight, the next generation of light beer. John, great call on that last opportunity by Andre Barakovski. Maybe a little snake bitten lately. He’s got three assists in those last three games, but he hasn’t scored in six. That was an excellent opportunity, but a better save by Darcy Keer, who’s been the busier of the two net minders in this first period. Certainly has. You got to give Connor Bernard an A+ on that creativity there to get the puck over to Barakoski in that position. Here’s Deno and Bernard facing off again. This time Deno wins the draw. Cory Perry to a loose puck will chop it down ice wide to the Hawk net. They’re going to wave the icing to the puck behind the net. drives it around for Barakauski on the right wing boards at the hot blue line, but it bleeds off his stick to center ice. Anderson fires the puck back down behind the Hawk net. Blic takes a bump. Shot it to the line, held in by the Kings. Perry from the slot, fires and a blocker save made by Knight. Blic outlets up the right wing to Vard. He cuts in over the King line and he’s knocked down in the slot and hooked off the puck as well. No penalty called. Kings back the other way. Dan O to center crossing the Hawk line on the left wing. dumps it down the boards in behind the net. Plac rubs Anderson off the puck and here’s Bard again. This time on the left wing side of center ice over the king line to left off high slot. A little tap pass to the right wing corner. Burkovoski out to Green right point. Long shot from there and a blocker made by Keer Bard looking for the rebound in the skates of Anderson behind the King’s net. He reaches for the puck and trips Anderson. A penalty is going to be called here to Bard. Yeah, it was Anderson who tripped up Connor Bard earlier too. No call on the play and then Unfortunately, the referee standing right next to Connor and yeah, he did trip Anderson. Now, the puck in front of the Kings empty net almost rolled in, folks. Hard to describe, but the pass came out of the left wing corner and the puck was sort of up on end. I thought, Steve, it might roll in over the goal line. Tripping. Yeah, tripping the call on Conor Vard. So, the Blackhawks back on the penalty and their first kill was outstanding. really didn’t have many good looks or didn’t give up many good looks to the LA Kings and not a penalty want to take in the offensive zone. Mike Deanderson gets tripped up by Connor Bard and it was certainly a trip and I thought trip Connor Bard was tripped a little earlier in this uh on that play but no call for that one. Well, the drama Hawk don’t circle the Knight’s right and Kopitar wins this one. Dowy at the left point to Kee top of the left circle. Put it beside the net. Kusme send it in behind as Yala. He spins it out to the right point. Dowy now down behind the net to Kmeo. Here’s Kusme in the left wing corner to Dowy. Left point sent it across. McKay reaching out. Poke checks the puck away. Grabs it himself. Brinks to the King line and then lost the puck onto Dowy. Sick. Dowy sent it ahead to Kee into the hot zone. He turned it over to Wyatt Kaiser. Ahead now to Dickinson who clears it down ice into the King zone as Dowy touches the puck. The whistle blows and we’re going to get the even or upper call right here. Adrien Kemp is going to get the gate and one of the Hawks I believe caught the high stick. It might be Wyatt Kaiser. Is it two or four? Steve, he’s holding up and I can’t read how many fingers. Hopefully it’s four. Los Angeles number nine. Two minutes for high stickies. He’s only holding up two. So yeah, you’re right. It’s an even uh even strength situation now for the next minute and 30 seconds and then the Blackhawks will have a 30se secondond power play. But I think the good news here is that their speed in a four and four situation might be able to exploit something here Kings mentioned earlier LA the second oldest team being Winnipeg Jets. Wow. How about it? All right. All right. Well, this is going to be a sitco power play if there are no other penalties called. Score savings on every fillup with club sitco. Download the app now to start saving. Face off to the right of keer. Hawks get control and then give it up. And then Moore gave it up to Sam Renzel at the line. Renzel tried to pull the puck to center. Taken away by the Kings. Dano into the Hawk zone to Moore. Top of the left circle to Dan Oo in the bottom of the left wing corner. He tried to put it in front. Ends up now at the line to Cece. CC put it over right point to Dumlan. Dumalan s sideesteps Nazar moves to the right circle fed down. He’ll fire from the slot and that hit Tavine and in the foot ricocheted away to the boards. Oh now Dumlan turns the puck over to Terravine and hot blue line to Nazar. He’s over the King line on the right wing and he got a little push from behind there by Mo and went down. No penalty is called. They’re going to let him play. 47 seconds left on the four against four. Quinton Biffield galloping out the center ice with the puck and in over the hot glue line. Lost the handle to the line. Held in by Brandt Clark. Left point. He’ll cut into the high slot and fire. Plucker save made by Knight by field to the puck along the left wing boards. Flips it back to the line. Lefer moves it to the right point to Clark. Clark thought to be the successor for Drew Dowy one day. Put the puck in behind the Hawk net. Blic took it away and he’ll pass it up the right side. left shin off at center ice on the right wing in over the king line moves at top of the circle and fires and a blocker save made by Keer puck ricochets off the glass by field clearing to center ice Kaiser knocked off the puck ahead of the hawk blue line if got it back for a lane like that decision by love and he’s another guy John I think he’s got to shoot a little more got to get it on net though that went I think up over the crossbar now catches a long pass into his glove drops it to a stick sweeps the puck over the left shin off clears to the king line and right there to take it Anderson. He’ll drive at the length of the ice and into the glove of Knight who drops the puck behind the Hawk net. Lechinoff carries to the Hawk line, drops it off there to Badard through center over the King line to Rusi left point. Kings coming to full strength. Lechin off in the right point. Snaps it down behind the net. Bard in the left wing corner leaving it for Nazar. Stick lifted. Puck taken away. Kings at full strength. They come up ice twoon-one led by Aral over the Hawk line. Left circle. He fires and left Shinov got a stick in there deflecting that one up into the protective netting. So whistle stops play. The Hawks did come back to full strength sponsored by Northwestern Medicine Orthopedics on a relentless pursuit of better medicine. And just keep in mind all Blackhawks wins this season are sponsored by Circusports Illinois. Download your new bookie today at circusports.com. Yeah, great stick there by Arty Lionov. uh defensively, you know, still learning the game as a youngster. So, that was a dangerous shot from Arma. And, you know, Arty’s a big kid. He He’s He’s probably a lot stronger than he realizes. And he’s got that long reach. Kind of a long stick and just killed the play from Arma. Got to tap on the back of the pads from uh his net minder Spencer Knight. So, the draw to the right of Knight and this is one by Turkot for the line to Dowy. Tosses one toward the Hawk net. Blocked by Ryan Green in front. Lick Creier swings the puck behind the net up the left wing side to Dickinson at center ice ace. Shouldered off the puck however by Deno. Then Kaiser takes the puck back into the Hawk zone and he’ll skate it up the left wing. Pass it ahead king line to Doc. Steps in over the line and then mishandles the puck to center ice. Creier fires it back down into the King zone on a delayed offside situation. Now we’re under a minute to play here in period number one. No score. The whistle blows and they’re going to bring the face off back into a Hawk zone. This will be in the circle to the left of Spencer Knight because of the intentional offside. Yeah, and these are always dangerous plays and because it wasn’t an icing and offside. Head coach Jeff Flasho can change his line out there and he decides to put out the Dickinson line with MV and Terrain who’ve been very responsible defensively. But you don’t want to give up a late goal. lot in a game like this where really you’re out playing only on shooting LA 1312 now but I think carrying the play to the Kings now Dickinson’s been tossed off the dot perin against Biffield on the draw now Bifffield’s been tossed out of there I feel like Joe Peshy my cousin Vinnie I think I get the point by the linesman here against Joel Arma his countryman from Finland Arma wins the draw to the right wing corner and Brandt is there. Grant tried to center the puck. There’s Grant now behind the net. Grant Clark put it away to the right wing boards. Arma mishandled it. Got it back from beside the right circle. Arma put it in behind the net for Warren Fogle. Passed him around to the near side. Edmonson put it down to the corner and it’s taken by Arma who makes a back pass to the right point for Brent Clark, but that’s over sticking down and so the Hawks will take advantage and get a line change. 25 seconds for the period. Grant Clark, King Kings own to Edmonson, King blue line, left wing, back to Clark. He’s tripped and a penalty is called and the Kings will get another power play here. 0 for two so far. 17 seconds left in period number one. Scoreless. Not very often the Blackhawks take three minor penalties in the first period. And Jeff Blashel right now looking for an explanation. Number 11. Two minutes of tripping. Tripping’s on Oliver Moore. I think he was talking to one of the linesman. So, I’m not too sure what he’d be arguing about. Was it a possible offside that was missed? I’m not going to speculate here, but more importantly, Blackhawks not only closing out this period, they’re going to have to start period number two short-handed. No penalty at 1943 of period number one. The draw won by the Hawks. Conor Murphy took the puck away from Lefer and clears it down. Clark grabs the puck behind his net with seven seconds. passes up the left wing. Aria center ice crossing the hot blue line runs into Murphy who promptly poke checks the puck to center ice and that’s how the period will end. So no score after 20 minutes of play and the shots on goal favoring the Blackhawks 13-2. Both goalenders have been very good in this game so far, Steve. Yeah, that’s what I thought too. uh you know thinking about that save that Spencer Knight absolutely robbed Philippino earlier in the first period and then later on it was Darcy Keer on our own uh Barakovski from in close making a really tough save. So yeah, I I like the speed of that first period. I think the coaching staff aside from the penalties they took are going to be pretty happy with the effort because um even though the shots at 1312 thought the Blackhawks carried the play That’s the bonus. So, no score after 20 minutes here in Los Angeles. We’re going to send it back to the station where Charlie Romelotus is going to have a full intermission report. Then back here to the West Coast where the Blackhawks will be killing off not quite 2 minutes, a minute and 43 seconds of penalty time to Oliver Moore to start the second period. And let’s hope they can do it and then somehow find a way to forge ahead and get a lead. We’ll find out if all that’s going to happen in a little while. Sending it off to Charlie here momentarily. Hawks committed three minor penalties in that first period. Got to clean that up, but fortunately LA failed to capitalize on their first two opportunities. We’ll see what they do on the third opportunity. Time now to check out the odds according to Circa Sports Illinois. The first period over was set at 1.5 and the under was the slight underdog at minus 108. And of course, it did hit. The over was minus 112. Nine other games on the NHL schedule and most of them have already gone final with this being a late game. So, let’s start in Boston where the Bruins took care of business against the St. Louis Blues 5-2. Pavl Zaka scored twice for the Bruins. And Morgan Geeki scored his 21st goal of the season. He’s all alone for second in the entire NHL, just below Nathan McKinnon. What a season and start that he’s been having for Boston. The New York Rangers won another road game against the Ottawa Senators 4-2. Uh our Timmy Paneran found the back of the net with an empty netter. There’s also um Mika Aanagad found the back of the net, his 10th goal of the season. So the Rangers pick up a win in Ottawa. The Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning 4 to3. Pittsburgh was up three to nothing in this game. Tampa roared back to tie things up at 3-3, but Pittsburgh scored the gohead goal in the third period. It was Evin Malin scoring the game winner. He had two goals in this game. Also, former Blackhawk Brandon Hegel found the back of the net twice. He now has 17 goals in his last 18 games. So, almost a goal per game average over his last 18. He had zero goals in his first eight games of the season. Uh, by the way, Ryan Mcdana signed a three-year 122.3 million extension earlier today for Tampa Bay, $4.1 million capit. And then Andre Vasilki did not start in this game for Tampa Bay. He was scratched from the scheduled start, but John Cooper said it is not expected to be anything serious. He could return over the weekend. The Nashville Predators won in overtime against the back-to back defending Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers 2 to1. Steven Stamos scored the overtime winner for Nashville. And finally, the Colorado Avalanche have lost a hockey game in regulation. The New York Islanders put up a six spot on Colorado earlier today, winning 6-3. Colorado was 140 and3 in the previous 17 games. They’re on a 17game point streak that finally got snapped. Bo Horvat found the back of the net for the third straight game for the Islanders. And uh Brock Nelson returned after he spent his first 12 seasons with the Islanders. He’s now a member of the Colorado Avalanche. The Maple Leafs won their third in a row after rolling past the car hurricanes 5 to1 earlier today. Toronto is outscoring their opponents 16-4 during this three-game winning streak. And finally, the Columbus Blue Jackets defeated the Red Wings 6 to5 in a shootout. Pretty wild game there. I think there were five combined power play goals scored in the second period for both teams. Patrick Kane and Alex Debrinket, former Blackhawks, each found the back of the net. Adam Fantilli scored twice in the win for Columbus. And then two other games currently going on. The Minnesota Wild and Calgary Flames are kned up at 1-1 in the second intermission. Minnesota, speaking of point streaks, they’re on a 12-game point streak, 100 and2 in its last 12. So we’ll see if they can get another one going into the third. And then the Edmonton Oilers are up six-3 on the Seattle Kraken in the second intermission. Six six goals through 40 minutes of play for Edmonton. Conor McDavid has two goals and an assist. Leon Dryidle has a goal and two assists and Evan Bousard has three assists. So all three of those uh top guns for the Oilers uh have three points. And then other NHL news, Dallas Stars forward Tyler Sean tore his ACL and he is likely going to be out for the rest of the season. Now, we will see it depending on how long Dallas goes in in the playoffs. He I guess he maybe could return. I’d probably still consider it a long shot, but that is a massive blow to the the Dallas Stars and hate to see that for for Tyler Sean. Elsewhere in sports, Thursday night football, the Detroit Lions are currently leading the Dallas Cowboys 30-19 in the fourth quarter. Meanwhile, over in LA between the Blackhawks and Kings, it’s a 000 score through 20 minutes. We’ll take a quick break and break down that first period next. Back here in the first intermission, the Blackhawks and Kings are still searching for that first goal of the game over at Crypto.com Arena. That was a a really solid first period by the Blackhawks if we’re breaking it down by even strength. Obviously, not crazy about taking three minor penalties in one period, one of which will carry over into the second. But at even strength, the the shot attempts were 23 to 15 in favor of Chicago. shots on goal 12-10 Chicago. The scoring chances were pretty even at 99, high danger at 4-3 in favor of Chicago. So, I felt like LA maybe I think the shot attempts, the Hawks had like 20, it was like 20 to7 at one point and then LA started to even things out there uh towards the the back half of the first period, but uh I didn’t mind that that first period for Chicago. Also, just looking at some of the individual numbers, uh Connor Murphy when he was on the ice at even strength for the Blackhawks, the shot shot attempts were 11 to zero in favor of the Blackhawks. Scoring chances, 7 to nothing in favor of Chicago. So, good things were happening on the ice when Conor Murphy was on the ice. Uh speaking of Connor, oh, they ju he he was he was four for four in the faceoff circle, but they just updated uh and now he’s three of four in the faceoff department. And I was going to say this is a this is a pretty tough LA Kings team down the middle with Copitar and Biffield and Philip Deno. I think there was a game might have been last year or maybe the year prior uh where Philip Deno was like 13-0 or 15-0 against the Blackhawks in the faceoff department. So uh this is a big test for for some of the young centers that Chicago has. Conor Murf or Connor Baddard, Frank Nazar against some some really big tough centers. Uh Bard did have three shot attempts in that first period, but none of them hit the net. He also obviously committed one of the three minor penalties for the Blackhawks. Frank Nazar had a a nice chance just under 3 minutes to 3 minutes into the first period. I feel like Nazar has is close to breaking through. I know he hasn’t found the back of the net in 14 straight games now. for a majority of those games. I feel like he’s been powering through the injury that he suffered in Calgary uh several weeks ago where he ended up missing a couple games, then returns to the lineup, but I feel like it’s more of a pain tolerance thing with him. It’s not something that he can reinjure, but I feel like we’re starting to see Frank Nazar look more and more like himself. And uh I thought he was noticeable in that first period. Thought he was also noticeable in the first period against Vegas on Tuesday. feels like he’s getting more he’s starting to resemble the Frank Nazar that we’re used to seeing now. He isn’t going completely dry in the offensive department. He has been gener he has been picking up some assists along the way, but I felt like I I’ve seen the jump in Frank Nazar’s game over the last couple games and so we’ll see if that continues. And and uh man, I feel like he’s really close to to breaking through. Maybe he will uh later tonight at some point. We got more Blackhawks hockey coming up on 720 WGN. It’s Andy Mer. Blackhawks and Kings are on the ice for the start of the second period. The second periods have been the Blackhawks Achilles heel this season. They’ve had 22 goals, four in the second, 30 goals against for a minus8 goal differential. Uh they’re in the positives in the first and third. So this has been a historically this season for the Blackhawks a tough period. But the second periods haven’t been great to LA either. They have a minus3 goal differential in the second period. 23 goals for 26 goals against. So we’ll see what the the second period brings for both teams that haven’t the second periods haven’t been their greatest this season. What’s on deck is sponsored by Timbertech decking and railing. Number one in premium decking. Order free samples at timbert.com. The Blackhawks will have a minute and 43 seconds of penalty kill time. So hopefully what’s on deck is a big penalty kill as we send back it send it back over to Crypto.com Arena where John and Steve are on the call. All right, thank you Charlie. Appreciate it very much. And I and Steve, I would classify this kill as a crucial penalty kill because of the situation. the Blackhawks the long way from their bench and in order to get personnel on the ice for the penalty killing duties, they’ve got that further distance to go and sometimes can get caught while trying to change giving the other team the advantage. Yeah. And a veteran team like LA very aware of that and and they try to cheat the killers out there uh for that extended period of time. But, you know, too, I think the Blackhawks, and you brought this up earlier, LA Kings have allowed four short-handed goals this year. That’s third worst in the entire NHL. So, they are susceptible when they got the man advantage to allowing chances against. Didn’t seem any great short-handed chances in period number one. Let’s see what happens here in period number two. Good way to neutralize what we were talking about is to get a faceoff win to get her started. And that’s exactly what happens. Hawks control. Murphy from the hot blue line takes the puck and flings it off the right wing boards and down. Dowy takes the hand off from his goalender Keer carries to the King line where he drops it to the captain Anzi Kopitar into the Hawk zone. Turned it over and then got it back and from the right wing corner sends it behind the net around up the far side. Kevin Fiala did not handle the puck at all and it just slid it back into the King’s own. Tried to pick that up I think almost on his backhand all in one motion. And it just totally whiffed. Kempe to the Hawk line, steps into the zone down the right wing side. Back hands behind the net around to Fiala on the left wing boards. This time he slap passes it back around along the right boards. Dowy right point. Defia left point. Dowy down the deep slot. Turns it over at center ice. And now here’s Lassic racing in to get it short-handed down the left wing. King zone. Angles to the net and couldn’t get a shot away. But it looked like he was tripped by Keer who reaches out and poke checks the puck off of Vassic stick. No penalty is called. They’re going to let him play. Here’s Kusmekco into the Hawk zone to the right wing circle. Here’s Kouseno. Send it across and a good play by Terrain and doubling back. Jabbing that loose puck in the crease to the far boards. Kings keep it alive. Keep top of the right circle. Hawk zone. Put it down to the right wing corner. Fial back to the line. Clark moves it over and a one-time shot there from Kouseno at the left circle. Goes wide in behind the net. Kopitar in front of the net will fire and Knight is down with a butterfly save. but holds on to the puck. A whistle stops play. We’ll get a face off in the hot zone. This will be in the circle. Two nights left. 14 seconds left on the King Power play. A couple nice saves by Spencer Knight on the 20-year NHL veteran Andre Kopitar, who we mentioned earlier, his last year in the NHL, 38 years of age. He’ll be 39 in August. And down the other end, boy, I love the power move by Alex Lassic, who’s been all over the ice tonight. And I I agree. I thought he was chipped right at the trip right at the end of the play. Look down to the bench. Chef Blashel not happy with it. But Keer forced to make the stop prior to the trip. Trevier gets to the draw behind the net. Drives it around, but not out. Edmonson left point. Sent it across to the right point for Clark. And that pass was just over the blue line back to center ice ace, forcing the Kings to regroup. And this will give the Hawks a chance to get back to full strength. And they do. Hawks three for three on the PK. Spencer Knight behind the Hawk net. But it’s now to the near corner to Kaiser. He had it jammed off his stick by Arma by field along the far boards. Hawk in. Lost the puck. And now Krebier clears it ahead to Oliver Moore to Wyatt Kaiser breaking to center on the left wing side. He’ll sweep the puck down in on the goender Keer who whacks it in behind his net to Edmonson. Edmonson to Clark along along the right wing boards. Turned it over. Frank Nazar onto the front of the net. Will shoot and it just knocked away by the cheater portion of the glove from Keer. Man, Nazar is getting his chances. He’s got to break through at some point. And I think that puck might have been on edge. Not the shot again he wanted. I think we’ll see it on the replay. The ice was not really good this morning at the morning skate. Players complaining about it. So that might be a factor in the contest. Fori dumps the puck to the left wing corner. King zone. Deno will play it across the rink now to Dumlan to Cody Cece between the circles. Whips a pass up the right wing Warren Fogle at center ice. He slings it in on Knight who knocks the puck to the near corner. Hawk in Grizzlick there. Dangerous pass up the middle to Nazar but completes it. Nazar moves to the left wing side of center ice and then goes for a tumble at the King Blue line. Got to a loose puck there and then slots it back into the LA zone putting the Hawks offside. So the Hawks now I mentioned three for three on the PK and when the Blackhawks come to full strength that’s sponsored by Northwestern Medicine Orthopedics on a relentless pursuit of better medicine. Well a turnover by the LA Kings allowed Frank Nazar to just to jump in and you’re right Darcy Keer got a piece of it. That puck might have been up on edge. He’s talking it over right now on the bench with Ryan Donado. But that was a glorious opportunity and just thwarted right at the last second by Darcy Keer. And I couldn’t agree more, John. I think once he gets that one, he gets the monkey off his back. He’ll start to breathe a little easier out there and maybe hold the stick a little more relaxed. Right. Exactly. Here’s Ryan Green behind the Hawk net to a loose puck. Sends it around the right right wing boards now to left Shinoff. Head to Barakoski center ice front of the King’s bench. And he is pursued now back into the Hawk zone by Philip Dano. Veroski stopping at the hot glue line will drop it down between the circle to Blaic who outlets to center ice to Ryan Green. Tried to whip it on the left wing side. Trevor Moore picks it off but then lost the puck back to Archimoff. Carries back in the Hawk zone and passes up the left wing glass at center ice to Burkovski to Bard cutting in over the line. We get a whistle stopping play and offside is the call. So faceoff will come out the center ice out of a king zone. Still no score. Blackhawks right now having a tough time just making the blue line for the LA Kings and mentioned it earlier in this telecast. LA does a great job clogging up the middle and they make a stand at their blue line. They literally have four guys lined up right across their blue paint and makes it very difficult unless you chip and chase. And I think the Blackhawks as this game goes on, they might start just dumping it in behind the defense and and trying to gain it with momentum. I was going to say maybe they should try the diagonal dumpins, you know, from one side of the rink to the other and look for a favorable carum. Here’s Colton Dock, the center ice on the left wing does exactly what I’m talking about. He dumps the puck off the right corner boards, bounces out. KBA blasts a shot from near the right point and that’s into the bread basket of Keer. Hurt a little bit, but Keer held on to the puck. Faceoff circle to his left. Yeah. And just as you drew it up, John, they were listening down on the bench. The cross ice dump in. They get the puck retrieval. They get it back to one of the guys with the heavier shots, heaviest shots in the NHL, Alex Crevier, whose slap shot was clocked at over 102 mph earlier this year. But unfortunately, and again, no traffic in front of Darcy Keer and no rebound either. Okay, Blash, tell the boys to do this now. Let me give you another play. Here the King coming out of their end of center ice led by FIA crossing the Hawk line down the right wing to the halfboard. Stopping there put it back to the point. Clark sends it left point. Edmonson fires one through traffic and wide. He was looking for a deflection or a redirection. Kaiser with a good play along the end boards. He’s pressed into the boards by Arma but frees himself with the puck and works it up the boards. This is off of Clark’s stick and out to center ice. Clark has to go back and get the puck for the Kings to Biffield. He’ll fling it down the right side boards in behind the Hawk net. Knight plays it in the near corner. Kaiser put it up the boards now to Doc. He sent it through center ice into the King zone. Brian Dumlan back to get it there. Dumlan from Bedford Maine. Won a couple of cups with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Now he’s pursued by Ryan Donado who causes a turnover. Dickinson to the puck. Great point. Mo slot fires. You heard it. Hit the post. A follow-up shot by Terrain with a backhand ends up in the glove of Keer. Close call there. 1459 left in period number two and scoreless. Good anticipation from Ryan Donado just to to doggedly helm that puck from Doomland. He turned it over right to Dickinson and he took the big slapper from about 35 ft out. Head up the whole way. Never looked down at the puck and unfortunately put it off the right post as he looked at it. beat Keer cleanly but not the post. Now the draw one by the Hawks. McKaya from the slot will fire one in on goal and again Keer down in the butterfly position. Make the save. It’s a speed advantage to Chicago John getting to loose pucks and you know there’s so many times in a hockey game it’s coaches call it a 50/50 puck. It’s up for grabs. If you’re a faster team you’re going to get your fair share of those loose pucks and the Blackhawks have been doing that in this game so far. Kitar wins this draw out of the corner to Dowy. flipped it behind the net. Anderson guides it up the left wing. Now Trevor Moore to center ice crossing a hawk line. Runs into Krebier loses the puck for a moment. Got it back and then loses it again. Krebier pokes it ahead now to McKay of it. Center ice on the right wing. He waves it off the right wing boards into the King zone. He’ll race and get it in front of Anderson. Fed it into the high slot. Blastic with a shot and a blocker save made by Keer. Loose puck along the near boards. Kempe tried to clear it out. Blic held it in left point. Put it to the left circle. McKay pumps it in on goal and a pad save made by Keer. Nice chemistry between McKay and Blic. First it was McKay to Vic for the shot. Then it was Alex Blic repaying the favor. Nice jump in from the blue line. Spots McKay and another stop by Darcy Keer. Anderson kicks the puck into the Hawk zone. Carried to center ice. Turn the puck over front of the penalty boxes. Deno will send it down behind the Hawknet where Knight put it to the near corner to Vassic out to Badard then to the right wing side to Creier. We’re going to get a whistle stopping play and a tripping call is going to be made here to the Kings. We’ll have a sitcom power play when we return. 1352 left in the second here in LA and no score. He’s known as Showtime for a reason and he stole the show that night. Hawks on the Sitco power play. Here’s Pertuzzi. Bottom of the right circle holding the puck. Put it in front. They score. Conor Bernard jams it right through the five wall on Keer. A power play goal and the Hawks take the lead here in LA. The goal at 617 of period number two. Oh, and the amazing season for Connor Bard continues. And with that goal, it’s time to break out the Bandido. Celebrate every goal this season with El Bandido, Yankee, Tequila. And we normally see Connor Bard on that right flank up top coming down. This time he’s in the bumper position. Skates right through a couple of different checkers. Cody Cece, Warren Fogle. He pays the price after the goal, but that’s a great pass from Tyler Verusi who’s been scoring his fair share of goals. Boy, that’s just a great setup from the big winger right to the man who’s on pace for 55 goals this year. Number 2617 as I mentioned one- nothing lead for the Hawks who have the puck deep in their end. Grizzly hit the near corner gave the puck behind the net. Dicken have it around the right wing side and Donado deflects the puck into the King zone. Dowy Shen to the hot blue line. Picked off by Murphy to Donado in front of the Kings bench. He hasn’t scored in a while. He chips it down in behind the King net. Rolls up the near side. La Ferriier turned it over at the line to Doc who then turned it over to Fogle who then turns it over at center ice to Grizzly who then lost it back to Kusno to Lefer into the Hawk zone down the left wing side. You following all this? That was four turnovers in 5 seconds and he kept up with it, John. Now Downey takes a turnover. Hawk zone and from the left point will fire it in on goal and a glove save is made by Spencer Knight. By the way, that was a sitco power play. Score savings on every fillup with club sitco. Download the app now to start saving. I like the fact that the Blackhawks changed up the look on the power play. Sometimes he can become very predictable and you know maybe the Vegas Golden Knights realized what Chicago was trying to accomplish and they really neutralized Conor Bard when he was playing that that high slot area. at the high wing area. This time he sets up in the slot kind of the bumper position and a perfectly timed, perfectly p placed pass by Tyler Bertusi and that’s a very important goal for Chicago right now shooting the LA Kings 20 to 17. Now Frank Nazar facing off circle to the right of Knight. He got the second assist on that Bard goal. lost the draw to the corner and Fiala will drive it from about five feet above the goal line in the left wing corner in on goal and a glove save made by Knight who calmly hands the puck to the linesman. Another face off to Knight Drip. Nazar against Pyfield on the draw. Pyfield wins it cleanly. Here’s Edmonson firing one from the blue line and that deflects off Oliver Moore and goes wide. One of the Hawks, Nazar, sent for a tumble along the nearboard. No penalty called there. That was kind of an awkward play. Could have been a hold or I don’t know, maybe a trip, but they let it go. Renzel the near corner. Hawk zone centered around up the right wing side. Bertuzi will chip the puck to center ice. Kings regroup. And then a nice hit by Oliver Moore on Vifffield. King line knocking him down, but the Kings come back into the Hawk zone. And then Arma turned the puck over in the near corner. Nazar will clear it off the left wing glass and down. This will enable a line change. Very impressive. Ian Moore a lot smaller than Biffield. put Biffield almost 225 lbs. He just knocked him off his skates. Edmonson into the Hawk zone along the left wing boards. Sent it down behind the net around to Biffield along the right side boards. He chipped the puck back in behind the Hawk net. Left Shinoff guides it up to right-wing Burkoski to Kaiser over the King line and he rifles a shot just over the net off the glass. Burkovosski reclaims the puck, finds Kaiser at the line, deep slot. Long wrist shot from there goes wide. Bernard along the farboards working there against Cece. lost the battle for the puck. Trevor Moore back the other way into the Hawksel from the right wing side. Fires a shot and that hit the shin pad of Vic. Kopitar came along and grabbed the puck in front of the net. Couldn’t get a clean shot away. He took the puck instead to the corner. Drives it around to the left point and Badard strips it away from Moore. Baddard back into the King zone down the right wing will fire and a butterfly save made by Keer. That’s a big save for LA here at center ice. Naya takes a hand off over the King line down the left wing and he fires. That’s in and out of the glove of Keer and he’ll hold on. I think Keer’s probably going to have a lawyer on retainer here after this period, Steve. Maybe sue for non-support. Well, you know, you picked it up. That was a big save off of Conor Bard who scored that last goal. And you know, when Connor scores, he starts to feel it. What what Keer did though, he really charged out. Very aggressive on that save. He was a good 10 feet on top of the blue paint. I don’t think Connor had a lot to shoot at. And of course, Darcy Keer, one of those guys who goes down into the butterfly and just took away the bottom of the net. That’s where Conor Bard was shooting. And O beats Dickinson on the draw out of the near corner. CC put the puck behind the net. Dumlanch sent it around. Held in, however, at the right point by Krebier to Mave along the right wing boards. It’ll tried to leave the puck in the corner and he does for Dickinson. Dickinson being checked by Deno. Terrainan reaching in to try and stab it out of there. Puck does come free. And now Terrain and Dumlan have their skates against the puck against the dasher. Back in the day, they’d call this a frozen puck. The linesman would blow the whistle, but they the referee tells them keep it going. And this scrum is eaten up about 30 seconds. Creier finally gets it back right point. Sends it left point. Vlic. He whips it across the rink. Now it’s claimed by Dickinson behind the net. Out to Blic, left point, fires. Blocked by Cece. And now Vlacic reclaims the puck down the left wing side. Cuts with it in behind the King net to the right wing corner. Leaves it there for MAB. He’ll swat it around behind the net up the left wing sideboards. Dickinson grabs the puck there. Checked by Perry. Dickinson falls on the puck. Puck comes free to McKay along the halfboards. McKay to the corner. Dickinson walks it to the goal line. Put it in front for Krebier, but it’s off his stick. Loose puck to the far side of the rink and is cleared across the rink to Perry over the Hawk line. Right circle. Perry with a tow rag and a shot. This deflects up into the protective netting and out of play. An interference call is going to be made here to the Hawks. 951 left in period number two here in LA. It’s the Hawks one. The Kings score. This is Blackhawks hockey on 7:20 WGN. John Williams, the man of the people. Weekdays 10 to 2 on WGN. The holidays are a perfect time to pop the question. If I’m not If I’m not in before sundown, there’s something wrong, right? All right. So, the Kings have their fourth power play opportunity on the game and the Hawks have the puck. Murphy from between the circles. They’ll fire it through the air and all the way down. Dowy claims the puck now behind his net. 140 in the King power play. Hands it off to Adrien Kempe. Swedishborn flying through center ice. Dumping the puck off the inboards. Hawk zone. got to it in front of Murphy spins it around KMO right point to Dowy high slot long shot from there hit Kopitar crowding the top of the crease Dowy again for the line fires a knuckle ball that goes wide Kopitar claims the puck behind the net put it out to Kusme right point to Dowy in the deep slot headed to the left circle Kevin Fiala back pass to Dowy at the line to Fiala top of the left wing circle put it in low beside the net bottom of the left circle chips one around and blastic drives it off the stick of Kempe and this deflects up into the netting and eventually over the glass and into the crowd. John, you mentioned Adrien Kempe earlier and he does have nine goals for the LA Kings this year. That’s second best on the team, but he just recently signed an 8-year $85 million contract that kicks in the start of next season. He had 35 goals last year. He’s on pace now for 25. And Charlie Millus was talking to me in the pregame about this LA Kings team. You know, he’s another one of the reasons that this team not scoring as much as they normally have in the past. He’s uh been an old stink pit this year. Yeah, you’d think that he might wait maybe a year and uh get that contract upped a little bit because the salary cap is going up, but I think he likes the security and I think he’s thinking that the money that he’s getting is going to be enough and he’ll contribute to maybe team success by taking a little bit less. It’s amazing how many guys here love the lifestyle in LA and it’s uh you can see why. 70 75 pretty much every day. Just take away the traffic and it’s it’s perfect. What Charlie say it was last night? Four degrees. Here’s Kaiser stealing the puck moving in ahead. Terrain and over the King line left circle fires and it hit Keer up high. Puck deflects away. 15 seconds in the King power play. They come up ice le by Denown of the Hawk zone to Brandt Clark turning into the left wing circle. Clark to the left point being bothered by Terrainan. Can’t shake the check. Terrain an excellent play. checks in and moves the puck to center ice. Kings have to regroup as the Hawks come to full strength. Krevier out of the box and the Hawks are a perfect four for four on the PK here tonight. Now Tervine is not going to get any points for what he just did out there. But that was a masterclass in penalty killing justounding the puck and creating turnovers all over the ice. In behind the Hawk net, Alex Turkot, a number one pick of the Kings, ridden off the puck in the near corner now by Kaiser. Puck spun around by Fogle to the right point now. CC sends it left point. Dumlan long shot from there. Hit traffic in front. Cece with a follow-up shot from the right wing boards. Goes through traffic and wide. Trevor Moore at the right point. Swings the puck down behind the Hawk net. Wyatt Kaiser took it there. Checked by Fogle. Moves puck beside the net. Now taken out of there by Nazar who swept it up the right wing side to Veroski who clears to center ice. Kings have regroup at center. CC to Turk over the Hawk line to Moore. Right circle fires a shot. Stick save made by Spencer Knight and then a follow-up attempt by Fogle went wide. Fogle went down and now he’s in the air of the referee looking for a tripping. Yeah, Levanov might have got away with one there and those guys were tired. There was four Blackhawks who were dead tired on the ice. We’re going to get an offside call with the Kings. Angie Kopitar could not hold himself out at center ice. So the whistle blows. Face off comes out the center ice. Well, that’s another big kill by the Blackhawks here. Well, it is. And you know, we’ve talked about it all night long. What do you need for a good kill? Well, you got to win faceoffs. The Blackhawks have been doing that. You got to get good clears. They’ve done that. And you need good goalending, too, because your goalie has to be your best penalty killer. And Spencer Knight has certainly been that. So, I just really like the aggressive mindset of these penalty killers, though. They don’t let you be good. You got to be good on your own. They don’t back off and give you time and space. They’re in your face all the time and you got to make pinpoint passes. LA hasn’t been able to do that. To our listeners, I want to apologize because from time to time I have to turn my microphone off because I’m trying to hear Steve and there’s so much noise in this building. The speakers are literally right in front of us and the sound booms in and it’s a little distracting sometimes. So anyway, we’re getting her done at the line. Hawk zone. Anderson with a drive that goes wide to the Hawk net. Knight never got a good look at that shot. Risick in the near corner takes a bump, puts a pass up the left wing. Bertusi at center ice. He’ll stick it slowly along the boards in the King zone. Adrien Kempe turns with the puck and then pokes it back down ice into the Hawk zone. Sam Renzel to get it there to Matt Grizzlick. Hawk line left wing goes rink wide with a pass. Now Bard hands it off to Renzel over the King line down the right wing to the corner. He lost the puck in the skates of the referee there, but then pulls it out. Renzel battling against Angie Kopitar. Kopitar wedges the puck free behind the King net and Dowy’s got it there. Dowy passes to Kopitar. King line right wing side. He sent it ahead for Fia into the hot zone. Fel on the right wing boards. Hands it off with Ferri air to Clark. Left circle back hands it in front. Look out. Shot just wide by Fiala. Then from below the goal line, Fiala fires it off of Spencer Knight. And it tumbles through to the near side where Clark will fire and that deflects off of Knight as well and up into the protective netting. 532 is left in period number two here in LA. It’s still the Hawks one and the Kings no score. This is Blackhawks hockey on 720 WGN. The NHL is officially back and right now new FanDuel customers can bet $5 and get 300 in bonus bets if you win. Well, give the gift of Blackhawks this holiday season. Our retail gift guides offer fan favorite collections for everyone you’ll be shopping for this year. Boy, I hope we see the captain back in uniform soon. Nick Felino, just a terrific captain. Great person. He is high character. I saw him up in the press box the last game. He had his two young boys up there. They were stealing some of the M&M’s and uh the gummy bears. That’s okay. Shocker. Oh well, they’re they’re at that age. They’re entitled, right? Yeah, they’re growing boys. They’re all going to be Nick size. They’re going to be some big lads. Here’s Brent Clark. Right point. Hawk firing a shot. Murphy turned to skate sideways in front of the net to block it. Dickinson took the puck behind the net. winds it around at the left wing for Grizzlick who is checked immediately at the Hawk blue line by Arma, but the puck deflects down into the King’s own. Edmonson to the far corner, banks the puck behind his net near corner to Brent Clark. Sticks it up the right wing to Joel Armia, crossing the hot glue line, sends it to the left wing circle where I McKay swaps it down ice into the King zone. Clark’s got the puck and carries back through center over the Hawk line to the right point, flings it in front. Great defensive play again by Murphy to not only get escape but his glove this time in front of that shot. Glove it away to the corner and the Hawks now get possession. Murphy to the far corner outlets up the middle of the ice to center ice. Nazar’s got the puck in over the king line to the left circle. Waves it behind the net. Was hoping that McKay would be on the other end, but this was picked off by the King. Cece. Then Cece turns the puck over at the left point to Wyatt Kaiser. Flings it down behind the net to the right wing corner. Bertusi then out to the right point. Now Krebier, he sends it back down to Bertusi behind the King net. Back to Krebier. Launches a shot and that deflects off of Cody Cece and up into the protective netting. Boy, I tell you, if if Lick Krebier is about to wind up and fire, Steve, I’m kind of finding a place to to maybe hide. I do not want to get hit with that shot. Well, first of all, Darcy Keer didn’t see it. And then secondly, it did get tipped. I believe it was Ian Moore maybe got a stick on it and just tipped it up into the netting. But yeah, that was an absolute bomb. And I like the way the Blackhawks pass back to their points cuz it’s not always a direct pass. They’ll bank it off the boards and a lot easier to get it to defenseman when it doesn’t have to be direct. You can just make that bank pass. Here’s Crevier to a loose cut back in the Hawk zone after it had been dumped down by the Kings Dumalan. Gravier in the near corner runs into CC. Puck comes free. It’s Crevier escapes. He and Cece continued their battle to the halfboards now. And the puck pops free to Oliver Moore who clears to center ice. Taken back by Koosme to Cece into the Hawk zone down the right wing side. Tyler Berusi on top of him. Cece put the puck down behind the Hawk net to Warren Fogle to KMO left corner out to the left point to Doomland. Fired a shot from there. Oliver Moore got a piece of that deflecting it away to the right wing corner. And then Fogle up the boards will flip it back in front of the Hawk Nets. This deflects through to Oliver Moore who tried to get it out of the hot zone and finally does to Nazar who drops it back just inside the Hawk line to Kaiser. He’ll step ahead on the left wing side and fling it down the boards and shelf that separates the boards and glass and it ends up over in the right wing corner. King in and a good play over there. Good work there by Ryan Green on Dumalan, but the puck taken back by the Kings anyway. Kempe to center ice. Send it to the Hawk blue line. picked off by the Hawks and Mushinoff will move it ahead now along the right boards. King zone. Kempe took the puck back, spun it across the rink over in front of the penalty boxes where Velic will drive it back down the boards in behind the King Nut. Picked up along the farboards by Dumlan. Turned it over at the line to Badard to Burkoski through the high slot dropping it there to Bard. He’ll fire and looked like it hit a shin pad. Taken away by Turkot who mishandled the puck to center ice to Lechinoff. Now to Barakovski King line right wing tried to fire it across the rink and did but Kempe intercepts and sent a pass up the left wing for more and this deflects off his stick and out of play. Yeah, that was a nice block by Cody Cece. A a great setup by the Chicago Blackhawks. The Conor Bard line and the pucks on a string whenever he’s out there and it ended up on his stick. He was in prime scoring territory and Cody Cece just kind of went down on one knee, turned sideways and made the block. Well, we mentioned at the top of the broadcast that the Kings don’t score a lot of goals, but they don’t allow a lot of goals. Their goals scored and their goals allowed are exactly the same. 2.62. Wow. Kind of hard to believe at this point in the season that they’re identical numbers, but they are. Now, the Kings on the attack. Here’s a pass ahead of the Hawk line. That’s off of the stick of Anderson. Colton Doc swept it back to center ice. He fires it back down into the hot zone. Knight went behind the net to play the carum. The puck came out in front, but the Hawks catch a break as the Hawks get the puck back into the King zone. Renzel fires for the high slot. Pad save made by Keer. Donado with the puck along the right board. Squeezes it through. High slot. Renzel. He’ll fire and Keer’s out to make the save with the glove and then pllopped down to the ice. Yeah, we mentioned how well Spencer Knight plays the puck. Almost like a third defenseman back there for the Blackhawks. Not very often he turns it over, but he did this time on the dump in. I think he just kind of froze because he had a guy right on him, turned it over, and fortunately for the Blackhawks, that pass from behind the net didn’t work out for LA. Ended up on a Blackhawk stick. So, I mean, you know, that’s the danger of having a goalender play the puck. I I I like him coming out to play it. Every once in a while, though, there will be a turnover. You got to be ready. Draw one by the Kings. Clark’s got the puck behind the LA net. Quick pass up the right wing. Fiala center ice runs into Dickinson. Lost the puck there. Terrain kicks it into the King zone with escape. Kings get it back. Fiala king line right wing to Arma through center over the hot blue line and towing a shot. The kick save made by Knight and a follow-up shot by Arma goes wide. Clark at the right point to Biffield high slot. Long shot from there deflects up off the glass behind the net. Loose puck to Fiala to Clark. Right point to Edmonson. Left point to Fiala through the high slot. He’ll fire and that goes wide to the Hawk net. Good screen in front by Arma. Fiala now at the left point. Sends it right point. Clark can work his way through the deep slot. Give it over left circle. Fiala fires a shot and one of the Hawks got a stick in there deflecting it off the glass. That was terrifying. And that was a real good stick. They’re getting tired out there at that line. On the right wing corner, Fiala reclaims the puck. Put it back to the right point to Clark. Clark now with one minute left in the period will fire. Blocked in front by Renzel. Renzel then Pope checks the puck away to the near boards and Vifffield tried to center the puck. McKay took it away. Gave the puck to Sam Renzel. He’ll clear it off the left wing glass and down and the Hawks will finally get a line change. Yeah, that was a much needed clear by Sam Renzel. Earlier though, it was Arma against Renzel. He got the shot off. Shouldn’t be able to get to the rebound. Not when Sam Renzel at 6’4 220 lbs. But army did look out in front of the hot net. A scramble. Here’s a shot by Perry. Blocked. Perry now in the far corner trying to center. Picked off by Nazar. I’m going to describe this in a moment, folks. And the puck taken at the King line. Dan shot it into the Hawks on a few feet. Kaiser clears to center ice. Bertusi’s got it over the King line in the right wing. 12 seconds to the period. Bertusi in the right wing corner. Had it knocked off his stick. Taken back by the Hawks. Nar right circle to Kaiser in front. scores with 5 seconds left in the period. The Hawks take a two nothing lead on the Kings. Some good work deep in the King zone by Bartusi along with Oliver Moore and Kaiser the recipient of a pass from Nazar fires it past Keer. Two nothing Hawks with 5 seconds left in the period. Oh, what a goal. And with that goal, it’s time to break out the Bandido. celebrate every goal this season with El Bandido, Yankee, Tequila and again Spencer Knight came out and it was well it was an adventure really and Connor Murphy stopped a sure goal right on the doorstep. I think somebody else maybe blocked a shot and John as you mentioned just great work by Bertusi to get it deep. Oliver Moore. No fans on his shot. It ends up on the stick of Wyatt Kaiser. And boy, he picked his spot and hit it perfectly right between the wickets on Darcy Keer. And that’s a dagger. A late goal by Chicago gives him the two nothing lead. That’s Wyatt Kaiser’s first of the season as the period comes to an end and the Hawks will take a two nothing lead into the dressing rooms. You know, you were talking about Spencer Knight and I wanted to tell the fans because it all happened so fast, folks. I just couldn’t describe it that way. Spencer Knight was behind the net to play a dump in, but he lost the puck in his feet and one of the Kings, I can’t remember which player, had sort of plucked it out of there and had an open net and then one of the Hawk players, I I want to say it was Conor Murphy, but I don’t know if that’s right. I think it was. He got down on one knee in the crease and turned his his leg sideways along the ice to block a shot. Then there was a mad scramble. The Hawks finally Cory Perry got away a shot backhanded in front of the net. That was blocked. And then finally the Blackhawks got possession and came back that down ice into the King zone and got the ensuing goal. So what a turnaround in the span of about 5 seconds. Well, that could be a turning point cuz instead of the tie being scored late in the period and then obviously LA would have so much momentum, the fans would be in it, the bench would be in it. It’s the Blackhawks who 10 seconds later take it down the ice after a near miss, score their own goal, and now have a a twogoal lead after 40 minutes. Wow. Time to draw breath. Shots on goal favoring the Blackhawks. 25- 20 in period number two alone. That would be 13 to, if my math works, seven, excuse me, 12 to excuse me, 12 to 9. Sorry, I got my numbers mixed up there, Steve. Looking at the wrong column. It’s late. Yeah, that’s that’s that’s close enough. 128. But, uh, a good period for the Blackhawks. Normally, the second period, we talked about this pretty much all season. Charlie referred to it. They needed a good second period. Boy, they got one. You know what? I’m I’m just really impressed with their tenacity out there. It It’s like they’re taking charge. They’re taking control. It’s not like waiting to see how LA’s going to play. It’s like they’re dictating the play. They’re dictating the pace and yeah, they they bent a couple times in that period, but all teams bent. The important thing is they didn’t break and they they got good saves at times and they also got some pretty good saves from guys like Conor Murphy and could have been Oliver Moore out there who made a block, but uh you know, the Blackhawks are playing a smart game. Uh they’re playing an uptempo game and they’re giving full credit for the two nothing lead. Nazar is assisting on Bohawk’s goals here tonight and uh he’s been pouring in the assists. Let’s hope that he can follow with a couple of goals here before we get away too long. All right, two periods in the books. Blackhawks two and the Kings no score after 40 minutes here in LA. Coming up, Charlie Romelotus will have a full intermission report and then we’re back here to I’ll go ahead and say it. I I don’t want to be disrespectful or disparaging, but I didn’t invent the phrase. Back to La La Land. I had to say it at least once a year. For period number three, two nothing Hawks after two. Through 40 minutes over in LA and the Blackhawks hold a two nothing lead going into the third period. Goals by Connor Baddard on the power play, his 18th goal of the season. and Wyatt Kaiser getting his first on the season with 5.1 seconds left in that second period. A massive goal going into the second intermission for the Blackhawks. Let’s see if they can uh close the deal in the third period and get their first win on the road of this 4ame road trip. Nine other games on the NHL schedule and all of them have gone final outside of Chicago and LA. So, let’s start in Boston where the Bruins took care of business against the St. Louis Blues earlier tonight, a 52 victory for Boston. Pablo Zaka scored twice and Morgan Geeki also found the back of the net. Now is second in the NHL with 21 goals this season. David Posterno did not play for the fourth consecutive game for the Bruins with an undisclosed injury. The New York Rangers defeated the Ottawa Senators 4 to2 earlier today. Mika Zabanagad scored his 10th goal of the season against his former team. The Pittsburgh Penguins hung on to beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 4 to3. Aghetti Malin scored twice in the victory for Pittsburgh. The Brandon Hegel also found the back of the net twice for Tampa Bay. Now has 17 goals in his last 18 games after having just zero goals in his first eight games for Tampa Bay. The Toronto Maple Leafs defeated the Carolina Hurricanes 5 to1. The Maple Leafs are now three- 0 in their last three games and they’re outscoring their opponents 16-4 over that stretch. The Nashville Predators upset the Florida Panthers on the road two to one in overtime. Ryan O’Reilly found the back of the net for Nashville and then he set up Steven Stamco for his eighth goal of the season for the overtime winner. So a big win by Nashville on the road. The Colorado Avalanche, their point streak of 17 games has officially been snapped. They were 140 and3 going into tonight, but the New York Islanders defeated Colorado in regulation, 6-3. Bo Horvat found the back of the net for the third straight game for the Islanders. He now has 17 goals on the season. The Red Wings fell to the Columbus Blue Jackets 6 to5 earlier tonight in a shootout. A pretty wild second period where there were five combined power play goals by the team. Adam Fantelli had two goals in the win for Columbus. Patrick Kane and Alex Debrink also found the back of the net for Detroit. Kane added an assist as well. Uh, speaking of point streaks coming to an end, Minnesota’s also got snapped tonight by Calgary who defeated the Minnesota Wild 4 to1. Minnesota had was 10 and2 in its last 12 games prior to tonight. So that point streak is snapped. And then finally, the Edmonton Oilers routed the Seattle Kraken 9 to4 earlier tonight. It was a Conor McDavid hattick and a four-point game uh for both McDavid and Dryidle. three goals and an assist for McDavid, a goal and three assists for Dryidle. Elsewhere in sports, we had the Thursday night football score. Detroit Lions defeated the Dallas Cowboys 44-30. A high-scoring game. Jir Gibbs touchdowns for the Lions. Meanwhile, over in LA, the Hawks are taking a two nothing lead into the third period. We’ll take a quick break and then break down that middle frame next. Hawks historically this season have been a a rough second period team, but they flexed their muscles in that period, finding the back of the net twice. Uh time now to look at tonight’s window of opportunity sponsored by the state’s official health insurance marketplace, Get Covered Illinois. Now’s your opportunity to find health insurance that fits your budget at getcoveredillillinois.gov. Open enrollment ends on January 15th. What opportunity can I highlight in this one? Because I have quite a few. The Hawks are four for four on the penalty kill and they’ve looked really good doing it. Uh LA Kings are one of the worst teams on the power play and so the Hawks have really uh taken advantage of the penalty kill. I almost going to look at this really quick. Feels like the Hawks have just as many shots on the PK than LA does have on the on the power play. Yeah, shots are four to two in favor of LA on the power play. So, the Hawks have gotten two short-handed looks against LA tonight. Uh so, the PK remains really solid. I think they’re now 11 for 11 in their last four games, including tonight. So, solid effort by the the penalty kill so far. But how about the opportunity that the LA Kings had late in that second period? I believe it was Philip Deno that tried to attempt a wraparound after Spencer Knight misplayed the puck or I shouldn’t say misplayed the puck. He the puck just kind of fell at his feet and he couldn’t find it. And then as he was trying to find it, the puck got away from him and he couldn’t get back to the net on time and Philip Deno went to have a wraparound. It was a wide open net and Connor Murphy comes swooping in, saves the day and then the Hawks go the other way. Uh, and Tyler Bertusi and Oliver Moore helped create a scoring chance for the Blackhawks. Frank Nazar gives it to Wyatt Kaiser. And Kaiser scores his first goal of the season with 5.1 seconds left in that middle frame. And it’s kind of funny because I spent a majority of the pregame show earlier tonight talking about how the Blackhawks have been the ones giving up early giving up goals early in periods and also late in periods lately. the if you go look at the last five games you can I pinpoint I think maybe just one of them the Hawks didn’t but the last five games they they’ve really it’s been an Achilles heel for the Blackhawks. We talk about the second period but also giving up a goal early in the period and late and it was fitting that the Hawks kind of reversed uh the curse so to speak by getting a late goal in that second period of their own. So, I imagine they’re going into this third period uh with the with clearly the momentum against an LA Kings team that has struggled all season long at home. We got one more break to get to and then we’re going to set up the third period next. You’re listening to Blackhawks hockey on 720 WGN. It’s Andy Mer. We’re your home for the Blackhawks. The third period’s just ahead. Here’s Charlie Romelotus with your recap. Hawks and Kings are hitting the ice right now over in LA for the start of the third period. The Blackhawks and Kings were scoreless in the first, but then it was Connor Baddard getting the Blackhawks on the board on the power play for his 18th of the season. Hawks on the Sitco power play. Here’s Pertusi bottom of the right circle holding the puck. Put it in front. They score. Conor Bard jams it right through the five hole on Keer. A power play goal and the Hawks take the lead here in LA. The goal at 617 of period number two. Nice little give and go play with Tyler Bertusi and Baddard. Baddard is now on a threegame goal streak and he has five goals in his last five games. So he’s averaging a a goal per game over his last five. He stays redot. He is now tied for third in the NHL with 18 goals. Tied with his idol Sydney Crosby. Morgan Geeki is ahead of him at 21. He ranked second. Nathan McKinnon is first in the NHL with 22. Let’s see if the Hawks can pick up two points here. Shut the deal against the LA Kings. Close the deal indeed, Charlie. Thank you very much. And well done during the intermission. So, I like Charlie’s thought process there, Steve. Close the door, close the deal. Shut the door, close the deal. Maybe that’s a better way to say it. Well, whatever it is, I just keep playing the way you’re playing because, you know, sometimes when you change and you try to, you know, go into that prevent defense, that’s not a good thing. And I think right now the Blackhawks, even though the shots tell you it’s it’s a closer game 2520 in favor of Chicago, they’re really dominating, I think, and you know, at times in this hockey game, and it’s their speed that’s doing it. So, you know, sometimes your best defense is a good offense, and that’s what the Blackhawks have had thus far. Well, coming up to start the third period, it’s the Four Seasons, heating, air conditioning, plumbing, and electric faceoff for all the right reasons. Call 866 Four Seasons. And we’re underway here in the third. Kings control. Mikey Anderson tossing the puck off the left side glass in behind the Hawk net to the far corner. Kaiser knocks it away and then it’s right onto the stick of Fiala. You heard it clang off the post off of that shot from the right circle. Hawks catch a break. Now Terraine into Dickinson. Hawk line left wing. Head to Ian McKay of it. Center ice. He’ll dump it off the right corner board. It’s King Zone. Now you see the Hawks drop back back into a pseudo kind of a trap there. And from center ice tried to dump the puck in. He hit Ma. Got it back and it’s dumped into the Hawk zone. And now Kaiser will filter a pass up the left wing side for Terrain. And this misses and goes down. We’re going to get icing here against the Hawks. It’s kind of a one two and it’s not a totally prevent defense. I mean, I think if LA is mishandling the puck or if they don’t have total possession, they’re going to be a little more aggressive, but LA had the puck uh total possession, so they dropped back. It was a one, two, two. Um, right now those three guys who had changed during the icing had to come back on the ice. So, Sam Dickinson to take the face off. And the draw is won by the Kings. Copitar Leferier in the left wing circle snaps it through the crease and wide and this will bank out of the far corner and ricochet all the way back down ice into the king zone allowing the Hawks a much needed line change. Yeah, Learier should know better. He knew that line was stuck out there. You got to get that puck on that. You miss it wide far side. It’s going to go down the ice. Keep into the Hawks down the left wing side. Snaps one in on goal and a glove save made by Spencer Knight and he’ll hold on to it there. It’s amazing how a missed shot like that could even start a team’s breakout. You know what I mean? Exactly. And and it shouldn’t happen. You should know better. Especially a guy like the fairy. That last stop by Spencer Knight look routine. Anything but when Adrien Kemp is shooting the puck. We mentioned his 30 plus goals last year. And the thing I like about Spencer Knight right now though, he still comes out to play the puck. He’s turned it over a couple of times in this hockey game. Still has a confidence to to go out and play it. Here’s Lefari to a turnover. Right circle hot zone. turn in front for Copenar who fired and Blic looked like he turned his skate sideways to block that shot. Marty Lumpinoff turned it over right in front of his own net. You just can’t do that. You You can’t do it. Don’t skate with the puck. Pass it. You’re going to have guys behind you if you don’t sense them. Just check your shoulder. Blastic to the Puck Hawk line. Shot it ahead. This deflects to the King line on the right wing side where Bard claims the puck in over the line to the right circle. A tow drag and a shot goes over the net around the glass and here’s Trevor Moore with a puck to center ice crossing a hawk line of the left wing. He’ll wind it in on goal. Turned out of there with a glove save by Knight, but the puck comes free to more along the left board. Put it over to Cece top of the right circle to Fogle behind the net. Fed a pass up the slot and this deflects back down ice into the King zone and again the Hawks get a line change. That was a good play by Lushov. That that centering attempt was meant for Philip Den to know. He lifted his stick. It went all the way down the ice. So heads up play by the youngster. Knight redirects a dump into the right wing corner in the Hawk zone. Warren Fogle and Matt Grizzlick battled there. Fogle played for the Edmonton Oilers a couple seasons ago in the Stanley Cup final. And now Nazar pokes it free ahead to Bertusi. Hands it off to Nazar to center ice. Demora over the King line down the left wing. Fires a shot punched out with a glove save by Keer. Here the Kings the other way as the play suddenly opens up. Fogle to center ice. Lifts a bouncing puck to the left wing corner. Hawk zone claimed by Connor Murphy to Vlassic behind the net to Nazar bottom of the far circle. He’ll hand it up the left wing to Berusi. Back to Nazar over the center ice circle to a wide open Tyler Bertusi over the line. He’ll fire from the left circle and that one over the net and around the glass and out of play. Boy, what a potential chance Tyler Berusi had right there. Yeah, and obviously the scouting report, John, on Darcy Kempers go high because we’ve seen a number of shots miss over the crossbar. Great pass by Frankie Nazar to spring Tyler Vertusi all alone down that left side. Blackhawks getting some looks. Unfortunately missing the net with those shots. 28 shots on goal for the Hawks. 22 for the Kings. Faceoff circle of Keer’s right. Biffield for the Kings against Ryan Donado of the Hawks who wins the draw to the boards. And then Baddard stripped of the puck there by Anderson to Biffield who clears to the Hawk blue line. Vlicing for that. Gave it to Bard over the King line left wing side. He shot it across the ring to Donado who drives a shot for the right point. Never got through. Donado got the puck back along the right wing boards to Colton Doc in the right wing corner. Here’s Doc doing some good work on Dowy. Flips it behind the net and Donado sent it in front and this hit a leg and bounces away. The Kings clear their zone as Biffield put it to center ice to Armia but doubling back in a backing mode was Donado to swipe the puck back down ice into the king in quickly cleared by Dowy Deiala over the hawk line left point to Biffield coming along. He couldn’t wipe the puck through the legs of Kaiser who closed his feet and kicked the puck away to himself. Then Biffield strips it away by field in the slot. Leaves it for Perry. He fired turned out of there by Knight at the line. Edmonson to Clark left point moves it right point. Edmonson hammers the shot. Colton Doc stood tall and blocked it with a shin pad. Clark got it back at the left point. Put it into the right circle. By field fires from there and that was blocked in front and then Doc is able to knock the puck off the left port to center ice forcing the Kings to regroup again. Clark with a puck at his blue line. He’ll skate it ahead into the Hawk zone. Crossing the slot. He put it down toward the net and it was redirected in on goal by Turkot. Turned out of there by Knight. Loose puck along the left wing boards. Excuse me. There to Turkot in the left wing corner. Centers the puck. Chipped away by McKay. Ahead the table Terravine and he’ll gain center ice. Shake a check from Turkot and then flip the puck along the right boards. King in. Grant Clark there for LA. Head to Cory Perry at center ice. He does a little spin with the puck and dumps it to the left wing corner. Hawk zone. Matt Grizzly pokes it behind the net over to Jason Dickinson on the left wing side. He sent it across the ring to Louis Krebier from the right wing board. Spun it all the way down. Grizzlick takes the puck at the left point. Fires that goes wide. Krevier at the right point to Jason Dickinson at the right wing corner. He’ll muscle with Cece in behind the net. Leave the puck from McKay to Terrain. Bottom of the circle to Mave in front. He glove the puck. Tried to get it to a stick and fire. It bounces away instead. But a hustling play by MB to take the puck back. Right half boards out to Grizzlick left point firing a shot. got this hit Dickinson on the way in and the puck bounces back down ice into the hawk in. Interesting pass by Terravine and to MV who was in front of the net. He flipped it to him. I think maybe that was the only way he could get it to the big winger and Mave couldn’t really get a good shot. Aar backing into the King zone with a puck. Plays it down beside the net. Dowy will claim that off the stick of the goalender Keer. Shot it ahead. Picked off by Bartuzusi at center ice. He’s back into the King zone. Waves it down to the right wing corner. LA zone. Howdy gave it right to Nazar in the corner. Vertusi on the scene to take it away. Tried to flip it to the left point and Leferior of the Kings got a blade in there and sent it down ice into the hog zone. Blastic can’t clear. Kopitar held it in right point. Moving to the halfboards. He then turns the puck over. Oliver Moore sends it down ice into the King zone. Nazar racing down to negate the ice and got the puck in the left wing corner to left off right circle. Moves in and fires and a butterfly save is made by Darcy Keer. Whistle stopping play. 1356 left in the third here in LA. It’s still two nothing Hawks. This is Blackhawks hockey on 720 WGN. Hey, Jeremy Ronic here. Hey Blackhawks fans, it’s Alex Classic. We’re back. Time for more Blackhawks hockey. Well, who’s hot, who’s cold is sponsored by plumber 911 Chicago, where they do it right the first time. And who is hot? How about Chicago’s Todd Batuzi? 11 goals in 12 road games. That’s the most in the entire NHL. He has an assist, the primary assist on the first goal tonight. Who’s not? The Florida Panthers. They’ve lost their last four straight games. They’re seven points out of the playoff spot. They’re last in the Eastern Conference. Still without Sasha Barov, Matthew Kachchuck. Mhm. No, Kulakov, Lorine, and they’re without a lot of big names. And usually for that segment, Steve, you you’d think about mentioning the Colorado Avalanche, but you can’t do that now because they got beat in regulation tonight by the Islanders 6 to3. Veroski from the leftwing circle king zone fires a shot that deflects up and out of play. Yes, I think Charlie said 17 straight games the Avalanche were able to glean at least one point. Yeah, I think you’re right. Yeah, and it was Brock Nelson’s return to the island, New York. where he played his entire career up until last year when he got traded. Back in the King zone, Ryan Green to the puck along the left wing boards to Connor Baddard in the left circle. Back to Green. Put it to the left wing corner to Burkoski. Now Baddard to the right circle, left Shinoff, closes in and fires and it hit Barosski’s stick and deflects up and out of play. Whistle will stop play and Brian Doulan. I tell you, the Kings are looking a little dispirited to me right now, Steve. I don’t mean to try and I’m not trying to be disrespectful, but just their body language is telling me they’re not feeling real good about their game right now. Yeah. And Brian Dublin, you know, he was the guy with 5 seconds to go in that second period who kind of coughed it up. Frankie Nazar made them pay. Uh obviously Tyler Patusian on the for check, too. But yeah, they you can tell the speed has been a difference in this hockey game. Now Grizzlick fires a shot for the right point and I believe that hit Ryan Green who’s now involved in a battle in front of the Kings net with big field. They get their sticks on one another. The meanwhile the puck cleared back down ice into the hot zone. Kevin Fiala left circle. Chris look all over him like a bad rash pushing him in behind the net. Fiala put it out to the line. A long shot from there off the stick of Biffield deflects over the net. Edmonson along the left wing boards to Fiala behind the net. came out the far side with a wraparound. Knight turned it wide with a pad. Loose puck beside the net and Knight decides he’s seen enough. He’ll put the glove on top and hold on. We’ll get a whistle. 1247 left in period number three. The Hawks two and the Kings no score. That’s a veteran move by Spencer Knight. He’d seen enough especially of Kevin Fiala who tried the wraparound from behind the net and was almost successful. He shook the check. Matt Grizzlick was all over him but then lost him at the last second. Diala with the wraparound attempt. So Spencer Knight was there, but then there was a flurry afterwards and that’s what you want to do. Settle things down for your team. Cover the puck up when you can. And that’s exactly what he did. Dickinson and Deno face off circle to Spencer Knight’s left. And Dickinson just guides the puck to the corner off the draw. Didn’t even look like Deno put a stick onto the dot. Now Dickinson behind the Hawk net to a loose puck. Drags it into the near corner. Deno worked it free. But now Wyatt Kaiser will pick it up and he’ll carry to center a scored his first goal of the season back in the second period. He’s into the King zone near the left point. Whips it down behind the net into the near corner. Cuz tried to drive the puck behind his net. It hit Dowy who claims it behind the net. Leaves it for Mikey Anderson. Anderson with a pass up the right wing to Cory Perry at center ice to Kusminko over the hawk line. Top of the left circle. Put it in front for Dan. Oh, he’ll fire and a blocker save made by Knight. Anderson left point now put it down to the area behind the Hawk net. Dickinson to the puck. Swept it around up the left wing side for Terravine and he had it knocked off his stick down behind the Hawk net, but Krebier’s got the puck and he’ll skate it out. But a pass ahead now at center ice for McKay and McKay’s stick must have been lifted as the puck came by. Icing’s going to be the call here against the Hawks. Well, Spencer Knight is think that Philip Denoa is going to be having nightmares about Spencer Knight. He has had three glorious opportunities in this game, one in each period and that last time just absolutely stone number 24 on the doorstep. And as you mentioned earlier, John, hard to believe. And Philip Denov not really known for his goal scoring, right? But he has no goals in what, 24 games now for the LA Kings and only four assists. So I guess players go through those kinds of tough situations in their careers and then they climb out of it in some way. and things go back to normal. Draw one by the Kings. Clark from the top of the right circle fires a shot. It’s hit the blocker of Knight and goes wide. Krebier fires the puck down. Isis rolls on in and right in on the goalender Keer allowing the Hawks a line change. Yeah, four of the five guys get off the ice and now MB off too. Katar into the Hawk zone now to the high slot. Here’s a shot from Kempe. Blocked by Colton Doc who then shovels Kempe into the left wing corner boards from behind and a little scrum ensues there. Now Kopitar put it into the high slot for Fella. Along came Tervine in to puck it away. Lean past Donado over the King line down the slot. He digs and shoots. It just went high and wide. Puck tumbles off the inboards and over the King net and almost into the crease. It was pawed out of there by Kings defenseman Brent Clark. And the puck ends up back at center ice off a deflection. Great rush by Brian Donado and he right move too. He tried to kind of slow it down. Shoot it back against the grain and again I think he put it up over top of the net down the other end. Golden duck. Wise decision not to drop the gloves. Physical play and he didn’t drop the gloves. Here’s Bertusi back into the King zone down the right wing. Shovels one toward the net. Redirected on goal by Nazar. Turned wide. Nazar got the puck back in the left wing corner. Tried to feed it back to the left point but nobody was there and the puck tumbles into the Hawk in. Knight slots it up the right side. Grizzlick put it in over the King line now to Nazar along the right side. Number two out in front. He’ll fire and that goes wide now in the near corner. Edmonson spun it behind the King net around up their right wing boards. And this is going to go all the way down for icing against LA. Like the aggressive for check from that line. They’ve been very noticeable again tonight. John, you mentioned maybe the best line last game and I’m talking about the Nazarus Moore line. That last shift, boy, they were just on the gas pedal the whole shift and not playing that prevent defense, not letting LA be good. They were forcing the issue, creating turnovers and as a result, LA forced to ice the puck. Blackhawk get a fresh line out there and some tired Kings still on the ice. Going to be Bard against Biffield on the faceoff. And now Bard’s been tossed off the dot or has he? He’s going to be allowed to come back in. Faceoff circle to the left of Keer by field wins it to the corner. Edmonson there being worked over by Ryan Green. Edmonson turns the puck over along the boards and that is Veroski that goes down but swats it in behind the King. Look at the hard work by Baddard over there along the far boards at the King blue line. Nearly took it away from Cody Cece who then fires it down behind the Hawk net. Knight swats it away now to Grizzlick who clears up the near side but Moore took the puck back and sends it down in behind the Hawk net off the inboards. Left shin there made a pass up the right side for Burkovski short of the King line at center ice. He’ll redirect the puck into the corner. Fogle there with a quick pass up the left wing. Anderson into the Hawk zone. Then a bouncing puck in on goal. Patted away by Knight. Now the puck turned over by Trevor Moore to Connor Badard. Badard through center. couldn’t get it past Moore who takes it away, kicks it to a stick, fires it down ice into the Hawk zone and Fo took it away from Blastic, put it into circle. Moore fires and scores. So, the Kings get one back. This goal at 1039 of period number three makes it interesting. It’s 2-1 in favor of the Hawks. Well, it gets the crowd here at Crypto.com Arena into it and Connor Badard failed to get it in. He was over the red line, tried to beat a player one-on-one and instead it’s the LA Kings heading the other direction. Great job by Warren Fogle who back in the lineup after missing three games. Out battles Blic behind the net, gets his head up. Perfect backhand pass right to the front of the net. And it’s Trevor Moore who finishes it. Banks it off Spencer Knight and we got ourselves a hockey game. 2-1 with plenty of time here in the third. So more from Fogle. 10:39 the time of the goal as we rejoin the play deep in the hot zone. Lifefield in the near corner hooks the puck free. McKay hit along the end boards there. Works his way free from the check. Now the puck is centered out in front by Perry. Picked off by the Hawks and Dickens moved over the blue line to center ice. Puck taken back by the Kings on their end. Grant Clark with it along the right side boards. banks it up the right side of center ice. Good play there by Carolina to pinch on his man. That’s Perry. So Perry couldn’t receive the pass. Kuzco gains the Hawk zone to the left wing boards for Biffield and he carried it out the center ice over the blue line. Turned and snapped it back into the Hawk zone. He puts the Kings offside. Got to have some awareness there, huh? 843 left in period number three. 2-1 in favor of the Hawks. We’ll be right back after we take this break. This is Blackhawks hockey on 720 WGN. It’s going to take place just outside the hot blue line at Centerace. Kings get control. Anderson drives it down the left wing glass deep into the Hawks. This circles the net ends up in the right wing corner where Lefer and the Hawks Wyatt Kaiser do battle. Kaiser was able to poke it free from Moore and that came back to Kaiser in the corner. Then he sended ahead to Nazar through center ice with over the King line left wing side. Tried to whip one rink wide. This deflects instead to center ice to Kopitar. The Lefari over the Hawk line left point. Put it over to Dowy right corner. Threw it back out toward the line. Picked off by Nazar. Nazar back through center over the King line right wing side hit the trailer Bertusi who cuts to the slot and fires and a shoulder check is made shoulder save is made by Keer and here the Kings the other way sorry by sorry John that that shot by Puzzi was deflected and Keer just fought it off of the shoulder Cece king line right wing sent a pass across the rink into the Hawk zone Conor Murphy kept it away from Kevin Fiala flipped it behind the net but it goes around to Arma along the right boards he shot it back across the ring. Dumalan from the left wing side fires a shot that hit a skate in front of the net. Matt Grizzig with a pass ahead Table Terrain and across the King blue line on the left wing. You may have heard that whistle cut the air. That means offside against the Hawks. And so they’ll face it off back at center ice and right in front of the LA bench. Yeah, one little extra move by Tabo Tervin who’s had a great game. Great game defensively killing penalties, you know, the puck, but just a little head fake at the blue line. Faked his own player and that’s how they ended up offside. It’s a great test for the Blackhawks. One-goal lead, much like the Vegas Golden Knights game where they had a one-goal lead. Unfortunately, they gave up the tying goal with two and a half minutes to go. Uh, this is a real good test for them against a very veteran laden team at LA. Now, Colton Doc with a heavy hit in the corner there on Cece, but the Kings get the puck and clear there in Arma misplays it in front of the benches. You saw Doc try to put a check on Biffield as the Kings get the puck back into the hot zone. Highfield fires from the left circle and a shoulder save made by Knight. McCab in the far corner. Put a puck up the left wing side to Donado. He flipped it behind Cece to go around him and get it, but he was stopped and the puck ends up on the stick of Dumlan now at the King blue line. Put it over to Edmonson backing up into the King zone to the far corner being pursued closely by Ilia McKay. Edmonson banks it behind his net to Dumlan in the near corner. Ahead to more center ice crossing the Hawk line on the right wing but without the puck and it’s taken back by Deno. He’ll dump it back into the King zone to Brent Clark. Clark with a pass up the right wing. Misses more stick. It goes down behind the net. No icing is called. Knight put the puck to the near corner. Lechoff clears it up the right sideboards. Ryan Green trying to clear it over the blue line and does. Flips it down ice into the King zone. And a quick line change now for the Hawks. Trevor Moore back between the circles. King zone with a pass up the left wing for Philip Deno that missed. Jason Dickinson back handsled off the right boards into the king end. Grant Clark chased into the far corner by Ilia McKaya. Clark fires a pass ahead. Philip Deno with no teammates around him over the center ice circle. Gave up the puck to Terrain who gave it right back to Clark. Steps into the hot zone left point. Put it down to the corner. Afair air shot it across the rink. Kaiser claims the puck. Filters it up the left wing side. Dickinson can’t clear the zone. And finally, Terinan does. A smart play there. He’ll chip it off the boards and down into the king in and get off of a change. Yeah, smart play because he got it out, but he didn’t ice it. And that was the key there because they had some tired players. They got the change and some fresh troops on the ice for the Blackhawks. Kings are coming here. There’s Dowy firing it down the right boards in behind the Hawk net. Knight stopping the puck for Kaiser who tried to clear it out. It came back to Kaiser. Flips it off the left wing boards. Moore pokes it ahead. Nazar with speed over the King line down the left wing. cuts to the net and lost the footing but he’s tripped. Penalty’s going to be called. Here’s Bertusi with the puck behind the King net around the Gres left point to Moore to Ladar through the high slot over the right wing boards. He made a back pass to the point for Murphy and that was stopped by one of the Kings. That’s Kempe. And Murphy took exception to what Kempe did. Kempe tried to fire the puck into the open Hawks net after Knight had headed to the bench. And Murphy and Kempe get together over the center ice circle and kind of paw one another in the face. Yeah, Conor Murphy just sending a message there. He heard the whistle. Kempe heard the whistle. He didn’t like the fact that he shot it at the empty net. Ended up missing. But more importantly, Greg Nazar with a burst of speed to the outside. Draws a penalty on the play and a huge power play for the Blackhawks. All right, coming up 501 left in the third. Two-1 Hawks. This is Blackhawks hockey in 720 WGN. When your team’s best players have all been traded and the latest pick is overrated, just raise a glass with a friend or two and tell them. Hey, it’s Andre Burkowski breaks over. Back to the guys. Well, welcome back to Crypto.com Arena here in downtown Los Angeles. Blackhawks hold a one-goal lead on the LA Kings and more importantly they go to the power play. Back in the second period, Connor Bedard scored a power play goal to give them their first lead of the game. Believe it or not, John Blackhawks think that the LA Kings are 195 and three against Chicago since the start of the 1516 season. So LA has had Chicago’s number these last, let’s call it nine, 10 years. The Blackhawks leading this one tonight. Well, the Blackhawks are on their third sitco power play. Tyler Vertusi works his way into the left wing corner and then he’s being bodied by Cece, but sends the puck to Veroski. Left point sideeps by field. Flips it down to Berusi back of the net. Dowy breaks that up. The puck taken away by Cece who clears it around the glass and down. I can tell already, John, this LA penalty kill very aggressive. They’re taking chances out there and they score some short-handed goals. Marosski turned it over to Arma, the leading short-handed goal man in the Hawk, the NHL. He enters the hot zone and fires a backhander in front of the net wide. Trevor Moore back of the net. He was a co-leader in short-handed goals last year. Now here is Nazar being hooked up by Arma as he tried to escape with the puck out of the Hawk zone. No penalty is called and they continue to play. Left shinoff between the circles passing up the left wing. Barosski to Badard over the center ice circle then over the King blue line to Verusi. Left point to Nazar right point. Quick hand off to left Shinov. Put it down to the right wing corner. Bad to Nazar. Put it in front. Vertusi. He went between his legs with a shot and shot it over the net. Oh my. Had that one gone in, folks, I’m telling you, that’s another highlight. Real goal. Well, I love the what the Blackhawks did on that power play. I talked about the pressure, the penalty kill. It was all high, so they put it down low. And isn’t Tyler Bertusi all alone in front and the pass from Nazar? It would have been Nazar’s third assist of the night. Threw his legs upstairs. I missed by quite a bit, but yeah, that would have been a highlight real goal and it certainly would have fooled Keer. I was going to say, you got to have a lot of confidence to even think about pulling off a maneuver like that. I think he’s got confidence. Yeah, he’s got swagger. That’s good to see. Well, you mentioned earlier, 11 goals on the road. 11 of his 12 goals to make that 11 goals in 12 road games for Todd Tyler Gratusi. Uh leads the entire NHL in road scoring. And Burch just looks like that guy that lives down the street that goes duck hunting every, you know, every fall afternoon when he’s free. Oh yeah. Here’s Terrain from the left wing circle. King zone. Tried to snap a shot toward the net and it deflected up and out of play. The whistle will stop play and they’ll face it off once again in the King zone in the circle to Keer’s right. 37 seconds left on the hot power play. Donado against Biffield on the draw. And the drop of the puck. Hawks get possession at the left point. Renzel to Donado in the high slot over to Green. And from the left wing circle, he fires one in from kind of a tough angle. All Keer had to do was kind of lean against the right post and then absorb that shot with his equipment and he did. Yeah. But that allows the number one power play to come out again and Connor Bard leading the uh charge. They’ve got a good 30 seconds here. 29 seconds actually to be exact. So, you know, win a face off, you get the number one power play out there. Although the the one difference here now though is both defenseman, you got two D, two natural D on the ice and Sam Renzelle and Matt Grizzlin. So, more traditional power play. Of course, the player will be coming out in about 27 seconds. Well, the Hawks get possession. Kopitar looked like he had won the draw as he forced the puck down to the corner, but it was given up behind the net and then Bard played the puck back to the point. Nobody was there. This goes down in the Hawk zone. Renzel carries to center ice. Hands it off to Bertusi. King wine left wing. Sent it into the zone. Now here’s Bedard from the slot. Will fire. Blocker save made by Keer. And now here’s Bard along the left boards being bothered and lost the puck to center ice and then took it back from aair. And then Grizzlick takes it back and he’ll fling it down into the King zone. The Kings have come to full strength. There is Dowy carrying out of the King zone ahead to Fiala over the Hawk line down the left wing. Tough angle shot from the corner. Stopped by Knight. Followup shot in front by Leferier is into the glove of Spencer Knight and he’ll hold on. We’re down to 240 left in period number three. 2-1 in favor of the Hawks. Darcy Keer, the King goalender, has skated all the way out to his own blue line and having a conversation with Tim Hiller, the head coach of the LA Kings. Yeah, surprising they don’t pull him just yet. I think Darcy Keer wants to come out. He’s almost making a decision for his bench, but he gets overruled by the coaching staff. So, he goes back to his crease. Five LA King players on the ice and we play on. Not quite yet. According to Jim Hiller, the Kings have surrendered three empty net goals. Hawks control off the draw. Classic sends Dickinson over the Kingline right wing. Put it out in front. McKay shoots and old Keer got over and blocked that somehow. Dickinson with the puck in the left wing corner. Check from behind by Arma. The puck comes out to Terrain. He fires from the left circle and that’s knocked wide by Keer. Ab deflects it now to the left wing corner. Jason Dickinson sidesteps Arma once and then twice and then gets pushed into the boards but kicks it free to Terrain. He’ll flip it back in behind the King net up the near side. Philip Denell’s got it there for LA. Shot it across the rank. Dowy turns it over to the Hawks. I McKay near the end of his shift. He steps into the King zone at the left point and just sends it down in behind the King net. And now it’s stopped by Keer leaving it for Dumlain. Down to 151 on the clock. Keer seems to be heading toward the King bench as Kopitar dumps the puck down the left wing boards in behind the Hawk. Knight misplay. The puck taken away by Bertusi. Bertusi now will skate it to center ice and bumps into a King on the left wing side. Then Terrain and took the puck back. Flips it ahead off Bertusi stick into the King zone. Keer clears the center ice. 1:30 on the clock. Here’s Kempe into the hot zone. He draws a penalty. Hooking will be the call and I believe Conor Bard is going to go off. The Kings will get a power play and an opportunity to tie this game with 126 left in the third. And this excellent penalty kill. You heard the call hooking on Connor Baddard. This excellent penalty kill especially tonight is going to be tested one final time. And Connor Bard will just get the stick into Ed Adrien Kempy who was going wide at the blue line right on the hands. Stick was almost stuck in the glove. So Jim Hiller is elected to call a timeout. They’ll go six on four here. Darcy Kemper will stay out of the net. timeout and they’ll have two extra men for this power play. Michael Pekka right now, assistant coach for the Blackhawks going it over with the penalty killers. Just making sure everyone aware of whose responsibility is who. Now you know six on four not quite as bad as a five on three. I don’t think John five on three there’s a lot more room on the ice. With a six on four there’s a lot of bodies out there and you know that’s you get that extra penalty killer out there. it it means an awful lot. So, I think the biggest thing you stress is wherever the puck is you’ve got to have a man and and you’ve got to have somebody supporting that guy, too. I would think part of the message too, Steve, is don’t think about the empty net. Just clear the puck. Well, that’s the advantage. You’re right. That’s the advantage of being short-handed. You can clear the puck and not have to worry about the icing. There’s a minute 26. Blacks have been great in the faceoff department short-handed. Let’s see if Brian Green can hit. Brian Green facing off with Popitar. Circle tonight’s right. And here we go. Kings net empty down below us to our right. And the drop of the puck lays at the faceoff. Murphy got hold of it. Murphy along the boards clears it to the line. Not out. Kempe there to Fiala near the right point to Kee high slot firing. Murphy turned his skate sideways in front to block it away to the boards. Lassic will carry it out the center ice and he’s checked off the puck and the Kings get it back by field down the left wing into the Hawk zone. Gave it to Copitar top of the left circle to Keep straight away. Fires that hit Murphy and now Terrain dives to knock the puck out to the line and Terrain caught a stick in the face. He is laying face down on the ice in the King zone. Athletic trainer Joe Hoff is off the Hawks bench to run over and attend to Tavo Terrain. And we see a trickle of blood there. Yeah, that might have been the puck, John. The stick was awful close. That was Kempe keeping the puck in. Terrain had dove just to try to poke it out. I think he eventually did, but that puck ended up going off his face. And uh he will hit to the players dressing room obviously requiring stitches. Boy, you hate to see that. Tavos had such a strong game. You mentioned you’re not going to see his name on the score sheet for goals or assists, but boy, he’s done a just a yman effort, killing penalties, you know, doing the right thing out there. And he dove to try and clear this. The puck ends up catching him square. It looks like maybe in the cheek now. He wears a visor or below the visor. You know, I got to hand it to Adrian Kempy, too, because right away he went over made sure that Table Terravine was okay. Showing some real humanity along with some sportsmanship. Faceoff circle to Spencer Knight’s left. Kings get control. Fela nearly misplayed it, but he fires from the high slot. Murphy blocks it in front. Loose puck to the left wing corner. Blic pokes it free now in behind the net. Perry is checked. Puck poked around to the near side by Murphy, but not out. Ar left point down to Kempe beside the left circle with 35. Kempe bottom of the left circle. Shovves it in front. Murphy whacks the puck in behind. Kempe got it back. Put it in behind. Seafella over to Kee right circle. Fires. That’s blocked. Dickinson clears the puck down ice. This goes all the way down to the right wing corner in the King zone. Hawks will change up their penalty killing quartet. Great job by Conor Murphy out there defensively. He’s been absolutely fantastic for the Blackhawks tonight. Highfield enters the Hawk zone down the left wing side. He’s met in the left wing corner there by Wyatt Kaiser. Huck is free now to Cory Perry. turns it over to Louis Krebier. Hit from behind in the far corner by Ara, but milking the clock. 3 seconds, 2. Hawks win. Hawks win. They hang on here in Los Angeles and kill off the remaining seconds of the Kings power play and they beat the LA Kings two to one. And now the season series is tied up with one game a piece and a spirited win here in Los Angeles. And so far on the road trip, the Hawks are 10 and one. And these two teams will get back together on Saturday night right back here at Crypto.com Arena. Well, that should be a good game. This was a fantastic game. Just love the way the Blackhawks played. They they played smart.
