Teair Tart Talks MNF Vs Eagles | LA Chargers
has a lane 1510. Touchdown Chargers. What’s up, guys? Welcome into a week 14 edition of Chargers Weekly. We are presented by Splitero. As always, joined by the voice of the Chargers, Matt Money Smith. A very fun interview with Tiier Ti Tier on the way, man. Coming up. Uh you’re not going to want to miss it. he had to uh get back to meetings, so we did a little bit earlier before we got rolling here. But he’s a character. He’s everything you would think he would be based on how he plays. Uh he busts his tail on the field every single snap. He’s a joy to watch. Know he’s limping around a little bit uh toward the end of that Raider game. So I was a little bit worried about it. So just to kind of see him walking in here, bouncing around. Yeah. Was uh was important because I mean, look, that’s that’s what if you got to you got to break that thing down against Philadelphia in the middle, you know, you got to get that penetration. Um, and based on what we saw against the Raiders, I know it’s the Raiders. Um, but that’s got to carry over. You got to stop this run game because if it gets going, when you got AJ Brown, Dvonte Smith, and Dallas got it out there, man, it can that offense can get humming in a hurry. Yeah. And Tier said it starts with the running game, he brings an attitude to it. So, that interview coming up and you said it, Mike, you can’t really take much from the beating the Raiders. It was just like, how are you going to look beating the Raiders? And despite kind of a a dicey second quarter, they bounced back in that second half. Yeah, look, I think if if you boil down what the Raiders are, they’re terrible. Um, but they do have a pretty decent run defense. It’s kind of the Max Crosby might be the best like allaround edge in in the game. Like, he is so good against the run and their run D, I think, was just mid pack. Everything else is dead last, but against the run, they’ve been solid. And I think you saw just a perfectly executed run game from Greg Roman, uh, obviously with the players, but running that jumbo package with Trevor Penning out there a little bit, the way they used Matlock and Tucker Fisk. Um, and they just attacked the edges. And I think you saw, you know, what Kimmani Videll and and Jared Patterson were able to do. And it’s going to be probably a little bit tougher to do that against the Eagles just because of the way they’re built and how much athleticism they have on that defense to try to get to those corners. But I think you kind of found something and and look, you know, once might be a fluke or lucky, but three times to to have, you know, three 100yard games, you know, the the most or the first time we’ve had three since Melvin Gordon did it, you know, seven, eight years ago. I think it kind of tells you that Kimmani’s, you know, comfortable being a bellcow. And based on, you know, when we’re recording this, whether or not we’re going to have a Marian Hampton out there, I’m certainly hopeful that they are. I mean, that could be a formidable one-two punch that can help keep the Eagles offense off the field and continue with this identity of a strong run game. Yeah, I and I think that that’s what it’s going to have to be down the stretch with Justin’s injury, which we’ll get into. And, you know, last week I know that every game is different, but the Bears rush for 280 yards. Yeah. On the Eagles with Jaylen Carter in the game. Jaylen Carter’s not playing on Monday. And if you couple that with Amarian coming back, um, you’re coming off 192 rushing performance with Jared Patterson who had 54 yards, five 5.3 a pop or something like that. He was great and he was a little more he was a little bit more inside, you know, his runs were a little more in those A and B gaps. Um, and like that’s the thing about the Bears, right? It’s just a different run game. It’s it’s more of that zone read and an outside zone. Whereas, you know, the the Chargers are power and duo and let’s get to the edges, crack toss, you know, that big that pin and pull that that Kimmani had for 59 yards. It’s a different approach. Um, they have not been really good running between the tackles this year. They’ve really been able to eat. It’s kind of what’s been weird about this run game is they’re super effective on the edges and then you look between the tackles and it’s kind of they’re in the bottom three or four, but they’re way up there on the edges. So, it’s kind of like can you make that work against this this Eagles team and I think based on you know with Malcolm Coun who’s incredibly athletic with like we said Max Crosby’s who’s good at setting the edge and against the run as any edge I think that’s encouraging that maybe that is something you can continue this week. Yeah. and we haven’t seen Omaran since week five. So, you hope he plays on Monday. Uh the the first injury report comes out Thursday. So, you’ll see that Thursday, Friday, Saturday in advance of Monday’s game. Uh Justin Herbert, tough as they come. Um really no breaking news there. He did have that surgery on Monday. 150 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception against the Raiders. Um it was a game where they didn’t really need to rely on his arm much, but um you know there still is going to be some concern on that non-throwing hand going under center and just how it’s going to hold up on Monday if he does indeed play, which we expect him to. Yeah, but I thought like even though that that’s the thing about the box score and people may look and be like, “Oh, wow. He only threw for this.” Just critical plays though. Like those passes critical. I’m just pulling it up right here because I want to make sure I get it right. 12 of 17 on third down. Like and some of those were runs, but a lot of those were passes. Keenan’s first three receptions were all on third down and all of them went for first downs. Trey Harris had a huge huge first down grab. Remember Q sliding to the ground on a third down caught that ball behind him a little bit to have to make a first down. So like that was the thing about the passing game is the run game was so effective that it was able to buy Justin a little bit of time in those third downs that you end up like I said going 12 of 17. They had 22 first downs in that game to just 12 for the Raiders. And I I just it really was one of the mo and again I get it the Raiders are not good but it was really one of the most complete games they’ve played all season and that goes for special teams as well right Cam Dicker just perfect again and I thought it was the best that we’ve seen the kickoff returns looked all look all season I you know it was the first time we’ve really seen kind of that explosion from from Darius Davis and you know I think his returns in that game were in like the 29 range when prior they were in the 24 yard range So carried over. You know, they had the by-week. They said they were going to spend two weeks working on it. Uh I know we’ll get into some of the personnel stuff, Chris, but I think you saw the the fruits of their labor and that yeah, they were focused and they they did get this thing kind of figured out in a number of different categories. You can only play the team that’s in front of you and you just hope that it carries over. Yeah, they’re healthier, too. I mean, that I think that buy just on on so many different levels. We talked about just how, you know, a week before everybody going to training camp, Brazil, uh, Hall of Fame game, all the extra East Coast trips to start the year. Um, and we talk about the offensive line every single week, money. Yeah. How about let’s give them their flowers for for that performance. Uh, Jamari goes to left tackle. Um, everybody played really really well. And again, it’s it’s the Raiders, but you do have Max Crosby on that line. You mentioned their run defense like the the the fact that there’s 10 guys who are healthy now and putting Jamari kicking him out to left tackle seems like they may have found that formula down the stretch with no Joel coming back to Yeah. You know, you look and again it’s not a bad front. It’s it’s not a bad Butler’s solid. Coun is solid. Tyreek Wilson can rush the passer. Obviously, we know Max Crosby can wreck games. I thought it was Bradley’s best game by far. By far it was his best game. Uh, I thought it was Zion’s best game. He was pulling all over the place and cleaning guys out. And I think that went a long way to helping Jamari out. I felt like it was not just Jamari, but it was Jamari and Zion. I would group those two together and the way they played on that half. And I think it it spoke to what coach said throughout the course of the week that they needed to find a five that they can settle on. You know, it’s not Deculus this week, Penny this week, Sawier this week, Beckton’s in, Beckton’s not in. It’s Bobby Hart, it’s not Trey Pipkin. So, I know a lot of that is health driven, but it’s the best that we’ve seen the offensive line without Joe Alt. And so, if that’s where, because remember, you know, we heard about Jamari losing weight in the off season. And I think based on how he looked at guard, he was kind of getting pushed around a little bit. And so, I think we saw some of that that lighter body weight of of Sier. The way he was moving, you know, on that big run. And I know he didn’t necessarily clean out the block, but he’s still kicking out on that pin from from Lad and and Trey Harris, I think, were the guys who set that interior edge. He’s still out there running a little more fleet of foot than we’re used to seeing. So, it’s probably the best spot for him. Um, and you can always commit resources over there. You know, I thought Kimmani did a great job in passpro in helping out when when maybe it got a little leaky over there for Jamari. I think I don’t think you can overstate how important it is if that group is settled and if you can keep them healthy just it’s there’s so much that goes into it, you know, and knowing how someone plays and where they tend to lose leverage or how they’re going to reset if they get beat and you know those sort of things. They were running stunts, Zion was picking them up. So, I think it’s it’s a you know, a lot of people are just going Jamari Jamar. Yeah, that was great. But to me it was the collective all five of them um together I think and you know and there were some leaks here and there. I’m not going to get into where but but I thought it was you know kind of the best collective effort we’ve seen without Joe Alt out there. Just think of the things we talk about in August even July training camp. Uh Alt Slater Hampton Harris a healthy Justin. Both tackles out. We haven’t seen Hampton since week five. Hopefully we see him Monday. Naji pops his Achilles week three. Um it’s it’s these players that you don’t really necessarily talk about in August that have made the biggest really leaps and also just keeping the season together like Kimmani. I don’t think you can overstate just the importance of what Kimmani has done in the absence of Omar and Hampton and Naji Harris just to keep the train on the tracks and he’s he’s proven himself and now the fact that you get Omarian back you can also count on Kimani down the stretch to kind of be the 1A. So, you know, all these players across the offensive line, you know, from Jamari at left tackle, um, Zion, questions about the interior offensive line. I thought Zion played great, like you said. Um, and then you have guys on the bench that have at least started games with Hart and Deculus and Penning. So, it’s just it’s these kind of these unsung players that keep a season together and now we will really see if this team belongs in the tournament or not. Yeah, look, it’s not going to be easy. the the Eagles are favored this week and I suspect that’s what we’re going to see. You know, I think that the Texans line will be interesting. I think it’ll depend on how each how each team is playing, but when you’re talking about traveling to Kansas City and Dallas, I think we know that Chargers probably going to go in as dogs. And traveling to Denver, you’re probably going to go in as dogs. We already know they’re a dog this week. And like I said, based on how these next three games go against, you know, Philly at home and on the road against the Chiefs and against the the Cowboys, that’s kind of what will probably paint the picture of what the the folks think is supposed to happen against the the Texans. But, you know, I think you hit on a good point, and that is next man up. You know, it’s just it it has been a next man up mentality all season long for this team. And when you have Kimmani and Jarrett Patterson running for nearly six yards per carry and having to do it in a game where Justin Herbert’s got a broken hand and is wearing a glove that’s limiting his mobility. He’s doing toss with one hand. He’s handing off to his right with his with his right hand. It’s really awkward and they made it work and you would assume that the the their opponent was going to commit all their resources to stopping the run and they still couldn’t. Um, and again, this has been a this has been a group that’s struggled to run the ball, that’s struggled to block it up, to be able to run the ball. And so, I think part of that is scheme. And I think you you’re finding scheme working in that bye-week. And and this will be a big test. It’ll be even without Jaylen Carter, it’ll still be a big test against this Eagles group that stacks, you know, at every level of the defense and can do it, believe it or not. you know, they gave up 280, I know, like you said, to Manangai and and to DeAndre Swift, but it’s it’s a team that can slow the run down and they they’ve just kind of found themselves in a funk. And you hope you can take advantage of that that, you know, they continue to find themselves in a funk because they’re not the most, you know, the media is not kind to them, their fans are not kind to them, as we know. You know, Philly Sports Radio’s on fire right now. Yeah. Last time I heard about, you know, a coach getting their house egged. My god, I felt like it was 30 years ago that’s what they were doing. But, you know, leave it to Philly to do that. So, like to me, it’s just take advantage of that. Don’t let the Eagles dig themselves out. This is still a team that won the Super Bowl and absolutely housed the Chiefs in that game. So, you know what they’re capable of. Yeah. But, just keep the negative vibes going, man. And that means jumping on them early. Yeah. Chargers 4-0 in prime time this year. And you know, Marty, I was thinking about Justin Herbert and just his pain threshold. There’s so many parallels, at least for me, and you around Kobe, too, but just Kobe played with so many injuries that you just didn’t even think about because he didn’t show any emotion about it, right? Like just how nonchalant Justin was about breaking his hand, coming back, and still performing. Never any excuses, never any wincing. And I just I I look at him as a guy that fans probably just depend on. Like we this guy just had surgery on Monday. He’s probably gonna have to wear some sort of cast and we’re just expecting him to be Justin Herbert Monday, just exactly how he expects to be Justin Herbert Monday. But it’s it’s kind of crazy and I think it’ll come down to whether or not they’ll let him. You know, you know that he wants to get out there, but I I think it’s important to to prepare people for the doctor saying not happening, dude. you know, there’s not been enough healing in that hand and we got to play it safe, you know, because I would assume there’s some metal that’s been put in there and you got to make sure that takes and you don’t do some serious damage to that thing. So, that’s a possibility. And I just bring it up because the guy only threw one pass, but I thought Trey handled the offense great. You know, I thought he played fantastic in that spell. you know, you’re you’re talking about starting at your own seven and you drive a team all the way out to, you know, a plus one to the the opponent’s 49 yardd line and on a second and 10 from inside your own seven just like it was nothing. Drop back, delivers a strike to the left sideline, picks up seven yards and, you know, scrambles on a on a on a run. And I think you saw that little package that that he’s comfortable running and how Greg Roman adjusted his play calling. and it became that RPO offense and that can be formidable too, you know. So, I I think for to to to just kind of prepare just in case and I I hope it’s not the case, but if in fact it is, I feel pretty comfortable about what we saw from Trey in the preseason and what we saw when he was pressed into duty with no reps with the ones to go out there and move a team, you know, 44 yards and put him in position to have a first and goal from the one, you know, on that explosive pass to Rande Gadston. So, um, certainly encouraging there. And I would I would be really surprised if we didn’t see a little bit of him regardless. Yeah. And just some short yardage when you got to get under center, you know, depending on what that surgery was like and what the cast is like that’s on his hand. It’s kind of hard to imagine, you know, if that thing’s going to be limited mobility, him putting that hand under Bradley Boseman to take that snap under center when you’re trying to get some sneaks or or, you know, cuz that’s really like the the the nucleus of this run game is from under center. It’s not a pistol or a shotgun based run game. This is old school power, God’s play, you know. And so I’ll be interested to see if in fact there is at least some Trey running out there to get under center and get this this run game kind of, you know, moving and executed the way that Greg Roman wants it. Yeah, no doubt. Um Tiier and uh you and I got into defense a little bit. Just a a couple of quick things before we get to the Tier interview. Um Tulie, man, like he he popped off the off the stat sheet on uh on Sunday. He’s he’s been awesome all year. Um but just his motor it just it I almost feel like you know Khalil is the he’s the alpha in the room but like I mean this is Tulie’s time. Yeah, he’s been one of the best edges in the game. I’m looking at it now. I mean he’s got what does he have for pressures? Uh it’s got to be plus probably 60 at this point. His stat line is crazy on something. Let’s see. So he has now got total pressure 55 pressures. Uh his pressure rate is 18%. And I know those numbers might not mean anything to to a lot of people, but just to put it in context, that’s elite level. You know, when you’re when you’re at 55 through 11 12 games now, that’s you’re you’re you’re going to be, you know, pushing 70 75 80 pressures for the season. And tight ends can’t stop them. And that’s what you ask of elite defensive edge rushers, right? If they put a tight end on you, bad move. Big mistake. And Tulie has shown that repeatedly week in and week out. And then I love, you know, when they kick him inside, man. When you get him inside and you’ve got Khalil and Ooway on the edges, he is an absolute menace to these interior linemen and can wreck a game. And he did, right? Four tackles for loss, two of them sacks, couple run stops. Um, that bat that bat down on the first series, bat down on the first series. Yeah, he’s he’s he’s everything. I mean, he’s he’s an everything defensive lineman. And I can only imagine for Mike Ston and and Jesse Miner how much they love being able to move him around. And that, you know, that set the tone. I thought Khalil was incredible setting the edge. And that’s kind of what we saw in a lot of that that game was just how much they were able to sort of not get too far up field. It was something that kind of got him against Jacksonville. I was going to say like you you uh you and DJ, what what did you guys see outside of that uh that was different from what we saw in Jacksonville with just the defense? Jacksonville just was a train, you know, it just started going down the tracks and it you couldn’t stop it. You know, they they got running early and I think guys got a little panicked and you’re just kind of getting away from what you do and and you’re getting too deep and you’re crashing inside and those edges are opening up and it just got got away from it. I think there was a very concerted effort in this game. Bud Depris really come on lately. You know, he had that sack and and and he’s one of the better edge setters out there. So, you get him and Khalil out there and and good things happen. So, and look, Saquon has not had a great year. Uh he’s he’s really struggled. This offensive line’s been beaten enough. Offensive line’s different. Yeah. And so, I think also part of it is that Landon Dickerson’s been in and out. Uh we’ll see whether or not Lane Johnson is back. He’s listed as questionable. I hope he’s not. Um Jurgens has been hurt too. Jurgens has been in and out. So, I think there’s that’s a big part of kind of what what we were talking about, right? They’ve not been able to get any continuity. So, uh Jaylen Herz is not running the ball. You look back at his game log last year and you’re seeing 40 yards this week, 50 yards this week, 60 yards this week. You go through this year and it’s like 20, 20, low 30, negative 10. Like, it’s just not He would He would rush for a touchdown per week, sometimes two. I think he’s got two or three TDs in the last 10 weeks. So, that’s what you got to start with. Limit that because we know it’s not, you know, we we’ve heard enough in the media that they’re not throwing the ball over the yard. Now, AJ Brown had a great game last week against the Bears, but it was kind of garbage. You know, there were a couple catch they scored the last two weeks and they had lost. Yeah. So, I think just, you know, the Bears had put it on him so badly that it just kind of became almost like a prevent style defense that just let him milk milk the clock um and and play that sort of way. But, um again, when you look at that depth chart and you see that offensive line, you know, with Dickerson, with Milada, with Johnson, you look in the back field and it’s Herz and Saquon. You look on the edges and it’s AJ Brown and Dvonte Smith. You look at the tight end and it’s gotten you look at defense and it’s B. And I know Carter’s not playing, but it’s Davis, it’s Dean, it’s like it’s a stacked freaking team, man. It is still a ton of talent, which is why I think just getting off to a good start and trying to get some infighting going on over there is is sort of that path to victory. So, every other year, right, they they go to the Super Bowl with Stiken as their OC, former Chargers offensive coordinator. Then they have a bad year. I think Brian Johnson’s the OC. Then Kell Moore, former Charge offensive coordinator, comes in. They win the Super Bowl. And now they they promoted from within again and it just doesn’t look the same offensively. So shout out to former Chargers OC’s. Yeah. In Philly Sten and more, right? That’s been their uh that’s been their uh their their formula. It’s and again it like it will not surprise me at all if if the Eagles just kind of figure this thing out and start tearing it up because they’re just that talented there, you know, and and I will say this, you know, the one thing offensively to to be sort of to keep an eye on is we know what Vic Fangio was able to do to the to to Herbert and some of these offenses when he was the head coach in Denver. It was always a tough tough out. Um, so he the way he coaches defense um can give, you know, this team some problems. So I that’s why I think that run game is going to be so critical, you know, with those two high shells that he’s going to play um with the quarters he’s going to play, with the zones and, you know, the simulated pressure, all that stuff that he loves to do um can always be a challenge, especially when you have players that are that good. And he was he was the DC in Miami. Remember that week one game, too, where they were able to run the football a little bit and win win win at the end. So yeah. So Vic and and Justin, they know each other pretty well and obviously Coach Harbaugh knows uh Vic Fedio very well. No doubt. Um let’s get to this interview with TR Tart. It was fun. I can’t even ask a football question without getting to the Jesus Shuttlesworth shirt. Is that one of one? I’ve never seen it. Oh, it’s not bad. No, it ain’t one of one, but I definitely got a couple of them. I don’t know, bro. Best basketball movie of all time. You got game facts. You think so? Uh, is it one of the best basketball movies? Uh, I like a butter room. Okay. Yeah. Hooers. Hm. You ever seen Hoosiers? Hoosiers? Yeah. No. Blue chips. Blue chips. No. Blue chips. Too young. I’m an old man. So those are like Hooers. Blue chips. Blue chips. Shacks in it. Uh, it’s all about kind of bad recruiting. Hooers are starting. This happening now. Exactly. College basketball. But hey, there we go. It’s a good start. Jesus shows us u, let’s get to these final five weeks, man. What was it like to get back from the buy, beat the Raiders, and then December football, everybody 500 and above? Uh, I mean, I think it was really important, you know, uh, definitely after the buy, you know, we got to some time to rest, you know, recuperate, and coming off the buy, you know what I’m saying? Playing the Raiders, it was just like, you know what I’m saying? It meant everything cuz, you know, we had a we had a pretty big loss that, you know, I’m pretty sure everybody wanted back and, uh, you know, you got to you got to win the ones that’s you got to win the ones you’re supposed to win. You feel me? So it was it was huge to come out there and put up a dominant performance on defense. You know, I don’t know how many sacks we had. A lot. It was a lot. So like which is uh which is always good. You know, it was good to go out there set the tone as the defense. Thought bigger than the sacks was the I think it was 1.7 or maybe 2.1 yards per carry. Uh just that run defense. You know what was what was different in in what you guys did out there against the Raiders cuz it just seemed like they had they had no chance. They had nothing going on. Yeah, I think it’s just an attitude and mindset. You know, I think uh like me personally, I think football always starts with violence and it’s going to, you know, obviously it ends with violence. You know, the more violent person throughout the course of the play is always going to it’s always normally it’s going to work out nine times out of 10 and in favor. So, I think we were we were we were the more violent team, the more physical physically team physically sound team and the run game there. We had hella hats the ball, people running out of the stack. So, you know, it was it was just a all in all great defensive effort. so many guys you could point to on that defense that had great games, but I just look at like the relentlessness of Tulie, right? He gets double digit sacks um already entering week 14. And uh he says something after the game that was just like listen, we we have to practice like we play and we have to have really basically just stag days of really good practice. How important are these practice days, especially in December as you guys look at all these opponents that are all playoff teams down the stretch? I mean, I think the practice is extremely important. you know, like Julie said, like you said, you got to practice like you play and you know uh uh I’m a believer in uh you know, preparation uh prepares you for the game and you know, it takes away nerves and like makes you more confident. So, yeah. Is it um kind of like muscle memory for you when you get held? Like when you get held, we know you get held. It’s just it’s arms, it’s stuff. Do you know that you’re doing that or is that just a conditioned response when you get uh I think it’s kind of like uh I think uh it’s just kind of like me trying to shed the block and strain to the ball. So kind of it could look a certain way but it’s it’s really uh me trying to get effort to get off the block. So yeah, cuz it’s not like you’re doing it to the ref. It’s just but it it announces I’m being held like this is this is happen I think more than any other defensive lineman on the team. That’s what and you know we’re calling it from seven stories in the air yet we can see it as clear as day. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, it’s a it’s a it’s a violent sport and and you definitely got to you definitely got to put some effort to get off some of them damn blocks for sure. You know, a couple of weeks ago you alluded to it. Uh Jacksonville that didn’t look like the same defense that we saw at the beginning of the year and especially last Sunday. Um what do you attribute kind of the ups and downs and and how do you keep that consistent performance down the stretch? I mean, I think just being consistent starts, like obviously you said, practice, preparation, uh, and just, uh, working on the small fundamental details, you know, uh, you can never rip the small details too many times. What, um, what happens with your game based because it’s it’s not necessarily hockey shifts. A lot of times they’re just different guys that are coming in next to you. Jesse likes to rotate a lot of guys through. Do you have to adjust the way that you’re playing a snap based on who’s next to you? Nah. Nah, I wouldn’t say so. I mean it it I guess it would depending on like if it’s pass or run but more so no not for the run you know I would just you know what I’m saying like I just go out there and try to set the tone no matter who’s who’s beside me you know what I’m saying? Yeah, the get off. Sorry, Chris. The get off certainly suggests that. Um, when it comes to just kind of every snap, is that your initial instinct is just to get up field, does it rotate, you know, based on, like you said, if it’s runner or pass because it does seem like of all the guys, dude, no one’s got better burst than you do at the line. Uh, I I kind of feel like, like I said, depending on the play call, man. So, like some plays it cause for penetration, some plays just cause me to to knock the out of the person in front of me. So, so it’s all based off of that. You know, there’s a degree of nastiness that this defensive line possesses. Um, I I looked at that Steelers game and I came out of that thinking if the Chargers are going to make hay in January is going to be behind that defense. How much pride do you guys take in being the unit knowing you have Justin on the other side, but being the unit to carry the day? It’s huge, man. You know, we got a lot of a lot of players that get hatched to the ball that hit the fire out of people. you know, DP, uh, DJ, you know, Mac, you know, Tulie’s getting after it, like, you know, so I think, uh, that speaks volumes to the defense. Those are the leaders. You know what I’m saying? They speak volumes. Uh, we all we all look up to them and, you know what I’m saying? They’re they’re setting the tone. You know, my bad. It’s all right. Let us um it’s it’s a it’s a it’s a medical it’s I have low pod insulin. I’m a type 1 diabetic, ti, my bad. So, be Do we have to let you go? No, I’ll go. Um, let’s talk about the the tier tart path to the NFL. How many how many schools? Uh, uh, so I went to I went to four different JOS. Um, or is it four? Yeah, I went to four different. Yeah. Yeah, I went to four different Jos before I went to FIU. You know, each uh, you know, I think one thing like I that I kind of like I’m I’m happy about is that I got to learn from each experience there. You know what I’m saying? Different experience, different cities. cuz I was in New York. I was in PA. I was in Mississippi. And then I was in Miami. A lot of people play football in the city. Was it Was it Brooklyn? Was it Manhattan? Where was it? I was in Brooklyn, New York. Brooklyn, New York playing football. Yeah. We had to carry out We had to get an hour bus ride all the way to Long Beach for practice for two days. Yeah. That’s We still had two days. Two days. An hour bus ride for two days to Long Beach from Brooklyn. Yeah. That’s How’d you find your way there? We could get to take the Greyhound. No, no. I mean like how do you find a jo like we we think of JOS and we think of like you know Lynn and Pierce and places like that you know like you said Mississippi or Kansas like but Manhattan or Brooklyn. Yeah. Yeah. So how did I find my way out of high school? Oh uh shoot man. Uh my high school coach actually uh made a little highlight tape of me and put it on YouTube and I guess one of the coaches in in Jo seen it and they decided to come up there. They get talk to me. You know what I’m saying? and they came to my All-Star game, the Austin City All-Star game, and they offered me, you know. Where’d you go to high school? I went to West Philly High School. Did you play hoops, too? Yeah, I did play basketball. Yeah, I played uh basketball since I was seven all the way up to my senior year of high school. Your four years varsity. You know what I’m saying? Go speed, boys. Who’s the best basketball player on the team? Could you take them? Like, if there was if we had a one-on-one tournament, what happens? TR gets seated and how I’m frying everybody. Everybody. Frying everybody. Who’s coming close? Nobody’s coming close. It’s not. It won’t be a competition. Are you just man on the You’re just backing them down? N you’re not playing bully ball. Show them all around. I can’t really I can’t give you my spill cuz then they might watch this and know how I play. Is it Is it like Jesus shuttles worth? Yeah, he got game. You know, you know, you mentioned all the the Jos and just the different stops. Um you beat the two teams that you played for in the NFL this year and the Titans and the Dolphins. And then when you came in last year, it just felt like you fit from the beginning and it seemed like everybody wanted you here and you were recruiting guys to be here. What was it about this spot that kind of made it feel like home? I mean, I guess it kind of just feel like that the trust the coaches had in had in me that well the trust I was able to earn through the coaches and the belief in me. You know what I’m saying? I was uh you know what I’m saying? It’s difficult being in different situations where you kind of like you get a feel for like the building, you get a feel for a round and you’re just there and you know and it’s kind of like you can’t change your situation. It just kind of is what it is. But here I had actually opportunity to to better my situation throughout the course of the season. And I think just the the trust I was able to earn and gain from the coaching staff around me and and you know and uh you know it was easy to recruit people here you know uh I mean they called me I mean uh you know they called me and I just gave my honest opinion of the honest review of the team and I said well this is what you’re going to get. This is how it’s going to be and I think you have this opportunity and that’s just what it was. That’s all they needed. That’s all they needed to hear was the truth. I’m not gonna, you know, I’m not gonna sit there and and like bull job somebody around, you know, until I’m gonna keep it 100 with them. The uh you just mentioned that it’s kind of weird. You do get to play all the teams that at one point had you, the Texans, the Dolphins, the Titans. That’s kind of wild. Does does that I always tell people I’m like, you have no idea what it looks like on a football field and what these guys look like after. I mean, it’s a rock fight out there. So, I would assume you don’t need any extra motivation, but is there any of that in there? I mean, uh, maybe it’s all right. They were both on the road, too. They were in Miami by Tennessee this year. Uh, I mean, uh, you know, some teams you got, you got a little bit more fire for it than others, but like the Dolphins, I I was nobody worried about the Dolphins. Worry about the Dolphins, but like I feel like some teams you do got a little bit more fire for it than others. It didn’t always feel good to go out there and and beat a team that you know uh actually didn’t want you anymore or like uh you just couldn’t be a part of their situation anymore. So, it does feel good to put a little BTA to him. A lot of BTA, you know, he’s adjusted. He’s adjusted from the start of the pod, didn’t you? Figured it out. I I I go back to week one and you know, I remember doing an interview with you about the whole Kelsey thing and that that set the tone for the year, right? like that you you guys started the year 3 and 0 in the AFC West and you look at like all the tiebreers down the stretch, you guys made so much hay at the beginning of the year. Um the fact that if you guys get to the tournament, you will have earned it with the Eagles coming up, then the Chiefs again, then the Cowboys and the Texans and the Broncos. Um how much confidence is that the beginning of the season give you guys to know that hey, you know, we started this thing strong, let’s end it strong. tone setters like like I said like it’s a uh going out and beating the Chiefs like that over in Brazil, right? Going out beating the Chiefs out like that over in Brazil, you know, was a hell of a tone setter. You know what I’m saying? So, I mean, it’s even better to finish out stronger because the better you play down the stretch, the better seating you get. So, you know what I mean? Like, I’m all for it. Like, I I love this. Well, I love the is you know what I’m saying? I I love what I do. So, you know what I’m saying? The longer I get to do it, the more the happier I’m going to be. So you you mentioned West Philly. Did you grow up an Eagles fan? Did you care about pro football at all? I mean uh so I grew up more of a a basketball fan, but uh so yeah, I did. So uh but I do watch do remember when I was a kid watching, you know, McNav uh in the Super Bowl. You know what I’m saying? I remember watching the three-headed monster. We had Vic, you know, Shady and uh you know what I’m saying? Yeah. DJ. I’ll start with this. What do you think of the as they call it the tushbush, the sneak and and how you defend that and what the approach is there? I mean, I think it’s a play and I think it’s like I kind of look at it like, you know, basketball has some unstoppable moves like James Harden with his up and under when he’s drawing all those fouls. You know what I’m saying? It’s a it’s a it’s a move that’s legal, it’s a play that’s legal and you know what, until it’s not legal or until they have to make adjustments on it, we got to figure out how to stop it. So, it is what it is. I mean, it’s part of football. So, I mean, you’re in the middle of it. So, how do you how do you stop it? I’m a whoop. There we go. How? It’s a good way to stop it. It’s the only only way to stop it, right? You know what I’m saying? So, the uh the fact that the Eagles were I mean their offensive line last year and Saquon, they were dominant. Now, they they’ve been a little up and down. Nonetheless, they are eight and four. Um where do you start looking at that offense? Uh and you got the weapons on the outside, but you know, I I really in December with any team, it’s like running the football, you’re going to have to pack a run a game and you guys are going to have to stop Sel on Monday. Like me personally, I you know, I just find a way you got to limit the run. I think getting killed in the run game could be demoralizing. You know, you know, getting giving up 300 yards on the ground or something like that. It’d be a long long game. Uh but like I would focus on like me personally, I would focus on stopping the run and then uh adjusting throwing out different disguises the mess with the the QB eyes, the QB vision. You know what I’m saying? And you know, I say just try to limit AJ and Smitty going on. Yeah. So, who was your Sixers guy when you were a kid? Was it like stack house or like who was the AI? I’m trying to think. Was it? Okay. Yeah, I guess that would be that era, right? It would be the Iverson era. Nah, that was a little bit before. I mean, I was that was that was like so like Sixers actually trash when I when I was that’s when they had like Michael Carter Williams. Oh, you were trusting the process for Yeah. And I was on 2K hooping with him, too. So, it was That’s right. Yeah, that was a rough go. I forgot about Okafur. Michael Carter Williams had it. Was he a rookie of the year? Yeah. Yeah. And then then he fell off a cliff. Huh? Yeah. We don’t talk about them days no more. No. Are you still a Sixers fan? Yeah. Yeah, man. I still Yeah. Still big Sixers. You like Embiid? Do I like Embiid? Yeah. Yeah. Cuz it’s kind of like hit and miss, right? Like he’s great. They sort of run in the playoffs. You said that, not me. Tyler the Sixers. Oh yeah, that’s right. Okay. Tyler’s a big Sixers guy. And I know you don’t like Paul George. That I know. What’s wrong with Paul George? He never play. Oh man. Can you get that on camera? Exactly. Can you get out get that on camera? Exactly. Did what you did to get on camera? What do you do? What do you do? Yeah, that’s a tough one. You follow follow the Lakers and and Clippers and everything going on in uh LA. No, actually I haven’t been able to. No. What’s going on? Well, Lakers playing well. Chris Paul is no longer a Clipper. Uhhuh. I’ve seen that. That retirement tour on a farewell tour, right? Yeah. You got to go send him home in his hometown. Why would they? That’s crazy. They like don’t get on the plane. Exactly. They sent him out. They put him on a in a cab and took him to the airport and said, “Take this, you know, we’ll fly you home.” That’s crazy. It is. You’re too locked in at the Bolt, man. You too locked in on the Eagles right now. We in season, baby. Got to do what we got to do. All right, man. Well, we appreciate the time, Tiar. It’s a joy to watch you play. Uh, I’ll let you describe how you want to play. You do a better job of it than we do, but uh, we’re certainly looking forward to it. On Monday night, it’s going to feel like a playoff game, that’s for sure. I appreciate you guys. Appreciate it, man. I think maybe the most entertaining player interview this year. He’s a fun dude. He’s a fun guy to be around. Uh, everybody loves being around Thiier and you know, you brought up the Travis Kelce thing to set the set the tone for the season. Uh, if you’re watching the game, if you’re not listening to the game and watching the game, be sure to just kind of keep an eye on him because it’s it’s hilarious when he gets held, it’s just like like a yard sale is coming. Um, you know, I love it. It absolutely cracks me up. And kind of I think you heard it in how he was delivering his answers and stuff. I remember um I think it was Bill Parcels who said it. He was asked about, you know, some of the I think it was when he was with the Cowboys, some of the guys on the line getting in trouble and I think his line was defensive line needs some salt. You know, the other the other position groups not necessarily. He’s like, but Dline, you need some guys to have some salt in them. And I think that’s one of the things and sometimes it results in a 15 yard penalty, you know, but I do think that’s important to have on a team on a Dline. He kept saying it. It’s a violent game. Who’s got the most violence? I think that’s something that you have to have in that room. And you know, for as quiet and stoic as Khalil Mack is, Tiier is sort of that opposite. It’s a very I was going to say it’s a very nice combination of guys, right? You have a guy like Tulie who’s whose motor’s always running. You have Khalil who’s like the stoic vet and then you got got a little nastiness in the interior and I think it goes a long way. So excited to see it on Sunday. It’s going to be a hell of a battle on the interior of that line if Dickerson’s healthy. Dickerson versus Tart’s going to be a fun one to watch. Yeah, can’t wait for that. Chargers has been awesome in prime time, too. So, keep it rolling on Monday night. Exactly. Right. Um, final thing, December football. You know, we’ve mentioned all the opponents, but um I go to back to last year. Patriots Raiders to close the year. They won 11 games. It wasn’t against the best quarterbacks. Like, if they get in this year, money, they will have earned it down the stretch. Well, and with the injuries, you know, last year they were pretty healthy. You know, they they were able to stay pretty darn healthy all season long. So, the that they’re sitting at this spot at 8 and four with what they’ve had to endure from an availability standpoint, I think speaks to how good the coaching has been, uh, how much this team believes in each other. The next man up mentality, the all the stuff that coach says, Ted, the there, you know, you got a guy that was essentially cut, you know, Kimmani was cut, was put on the practice squad, and you’re talking about one of the more valuable pieces on your offense that you don’t have eight wins without. Think about that Dolphins game and what he was able to do in that game and how tight that thing was. So, um, yeah, collective effort, man. It’s not easy. There’s a reason why this this league is the most popular form of entertainment in America because you just it’s you never know what’s going to happen week to week, monthto month, season to season. And and yeah, you said it starts against the defending Super Bowl champs. You know, this final fivegame stretch against basically all playoff teams. Yep. Make a statement against the Eagles. Then we’re on to Kansas City for Tiier Tart and Matt Money Smith. I’m Chris Hary. [Music]

D line has been awesome, but they really need to step it up to make the post season and win in the playoffs
The greatest slap in Chargers history.

Great show guys. Tart was spot on too. Question for you guys uf you see this. What's happened to Dissley? He's completely fallen off of the edge. He hasn't played in several weeks now? Did he Piss one of the coaches off, not been practicing well? IDK But he was one of our best blocking TE'S and now it's like Poof! He's been gone? Thanks guys for the show. Alan
Chris Hayre –"Teair TEart" lol😂😂😂
Bring us some fried eagle boys I know it’s illegal cause they’re the national bird but lightning is natural so it’s all good
It's not "weird." we suck between the tackles, which mostly runs through the interior, and we already know what it is there!
I dont like Tarts dirty reputation that he's earned. even if a slap is deserved and funny, thats a 15 yard penalty that says "my emotional lack of control takes priority over whats best for the entirety of this team, the fanbase, and how I represent my family."
Doubt me? Ask Joey Bosa after that playoff loss to the Jags… who just kicked our teeth in AGAIN btw…
Well from this season we know RBs and WRs are set for next season. D looks fairly solid so offseason and draft need to focus on OL. And get a competent OC. W/o OL, set expectations low for post season.
I want to know what these young guys think about playing with Khalil
We need to extend him
