The Chiefs offense is COOKING but it’s still not enough…

So, the biggest problem this season for the Kansas City Chiefs is the fact that Patrick Mahomes and the offense can only carry the team so far by themselves. On the year, Casey has the sixth best point differential, which is fascinating because of all teams in the top 11, the average wins is 8.3. Meanwhile, Casey is the only team on here with six wins. And what’s crazy about this 6 and6 team is that their offense by every advanced metric is absolutely carrying. through 12 games this season. The offense is first in total EPA, tied for first with the Colts in EPA per play, third in success rate, third in EPA per pass, and fourth in EPA per rush. For comparison’s sake, the offense was closer to 10th to 12th in a lot of these metrics last year. So, the offense is much more efficient in 2025, and it’s not even close. They are also top 10 on third down and the best in the NFL on fourth down, which helps them consistently move the chains and is why they are also top five in plays per drive, average time of possession, and points per drive. This helps keep opposing offenses off the field and is actually why Casey’s defense being ranked as a top seven scoring defense is really kind of a facade. This is largely helped by the Chiefs offense. Meanwhile, the defense they are seventh worst on allowing third down conversions, bottom seven in pressures with 75, and have racked up the sixth fewest sacks in the league, 22, despite blitzing at the sixth highest rate. It gets worse because they are 20th in EPA per play, 20th in total EPA, 20th in success rate, 17th in EPA per pass, and 22nd in EPA per rush. That combined with the fact that they’ve recorded the fourth fewest takeaways in the NFL has led to the offense having to carry. And sadly, three of their losses this season have resulted in Casey’s defense not being able to get the stop needed and give the offense another opportunity to try and go win it. And some of you might be saying, “Hey, Cole, the defense has been good at times.” And I do agree specifically in the first half of the season. Weeks 1 through six they were 10th in EPA allowed per drop back, but weeks 7 through 13 they are 23rd. And to be clear, this isn’t me saying the offense is perfect because it’s not. Play calling has been an issue. Lack of a dual threat running back. They also don’t run enough from under center with the running backs they do have. Those have all been problematic. Then Mahomes has missed some throws here or there. Pass catchers have also had some tough drops in crucial situations. And then they’ve had a few crippling turnovers deep in the red zone. That’s not even to mention the penalties across the board. As a whole, they are the 10th most flagged team in the league or the very subpar performance from their special teams unit this season. The thing is, no team is perfect in any one phase. It just so happens to be this year. The offense is the ones doing the heavy lifting.

  1. And yet people still want to hate on the chiefs like we're trash lol, mahomes is still the best QB in the league and it's not close. Give him better weapons and he's having an MVP season easily

  2. The defense and penalties are hurting us the most but the O-line is horrible right now with injuries, dropped passes and wide receivers can't break free, and the inability to score in the red zone.

  3. IT IS NOT ANYONE. LAST YEAR THE CHIEFS WERE PREDETERMINED TO MAKE THE PLAYOFFS NO MATTER WHAT. THIS YEAR THEY WERE NOT ADDED AS A PLAYOFF TEAM. THIS WAS DONE IN ADVANCE BACK IN THE SPRING.

  4. The Chiefs offense has only really been cooking against the worst pass defenses in the league, and defenses that have been decimated by injuries.
I’m not saying their offense is bad, but it’s not as good as the numbers say.

  5. We would have won a few of the games if butker would have made a few of his extra points or field goals, but all 3 phases has been out of sync all year. Need some swag surf or something to get us through the next 5 games

  6. People calling for Andy Reid’s job after one mid season and one Super Bowl loss are out of their damn minds, I honestly don’t know what happened to KC Kingdom these last couple years, but losing one step and suddenly half these fans want to throw away the greatest head coach in franchise history, the man who brought us 5 Hunt trophies and 3 out of our 4 Lombardi trophies, the man who turned us from a joke into a dynasty, the man who literally rebuilt Kansas City football from the inside out. Here’s the truth, and it’s not complicated, it’s not dramatic, it’s not emotional, it’s football 101. Kansas City has two major thresholds we need to cross by 2026, and once we cross them, we’re right back on top. First, we need stronger trenches, we need better D linemen and O linemen, we need to rebuild the physical core of this team, because Mahomes can’t operate a precision offense when the pocket is collapsing every other snap, and Spags can’t run a calculated defense when the front four can’t consistently win without blitzing. Football is won in the trenches, always has been, always will be, and the Chiefs are running on fumes up front. Second, we need discipline to return across the entire football team, I’m talking offense, defense, special teams, all of it, because right now KC is sloppy, mentally loose, unfocused, and that is the opposite of what Kansas City football is supposed to be. Hank Stram built this franchise on one line, ā€œjust keep matriculating the ball down the field boys,ā€ meaning controlled football, calculated football, disciplined football. That’s the DNA of Kansas City, that’s the soul of this franchise, and we have drifted from that, badly. A lot of people forget this but Reid and Spags are quiet geniuses, they’re strategists, soft-spoken, big-picture thinkers, they aren’t screamers, they aren’t drill sergeants, they need someone under them who enforces the discipline, who carries the voice, who makes sure every man is lined up right, splitting right, blocking right, running full speed, doing the fundamentals correctly every snap. Bieniemy used to be that guy. Nagy is not. And you can literally see the discipline evaporate since the day that switch happened. Players hated Bieniemy, but that’s good, I hated all my drill sergeants too, until I understood what they were doing for me. You don’t need a genius at OC in Kansas City, you need a Master-at-Arms, you need someone who commands the room, someone who takes Reid’s calm directions and turns them into fire in the players. That was the magic formula, that was the balance, Reid the tactician, Bieniemy the enforcer, Mahomes the executioner. Without the enforcer piece, the entire machine wobbles. And all these people saying ā€œfire Reid,ā€ man, some of y’all became fans in 2018 and it shows. I survived the 2–14 season, I’ve been a Chiefs fan since I was a kid, raised that way by my mother and my grandfather, sat through the dark ages, watched us blow chance after chance, watched us suffer through mediocrity for decades. Andy Reid didn’t just win us games, he resurrected this franchise. You don’t throw away a legend because he had one down year, one tough season, one roster transition, that’s not loyalty, that’s not football knowledge, that’s bandwagon behavior. You let a man like Reid go only after multiple failing seasons, like how Hunt eventually had to let Hank Stram go, and even that took years. That’s how stable franchises operate, that’s how champions operate, that’s how long-term organizations operate, and Clark Hunt, being his father’s son, knows that. Stability wins in the NFL, discipline wins in the NFL, trenches win in the NFL, and calculated football wins in the NFL. We fix the O line and D line, we bring discipline back to all three phases, we hire an OC in 2026 who can enforce structure and hold players accountable, and suddenly Kansas City is right back to being Kansas City again. The dynasty isn’t over, it’s just in maintenance mode, and some of you don’t know the difference.

  7. This shouldn't surprise anyone. Given the players that were lost on defense, it should have been expected to take a step back. One issue that couldn't have been accounted for is the injury to Lott. That being said, the Chiefs had a no-so-great defense when Tyreek was here. All those picks KC got for Tyreek is what built the defense. The issue is that the offense needs to be called as if the defense won't get a stop. The offense is being called and run so conservatively. They need to get back that old mind set and just assume the defense isn't stopping anything if they want to have a chance this year.

  8. Really, I been screaming this very same thing forever !! The blame for this team lack of defensive talent lay directly at the feet of the GM … Veach has the worst record of talent acquisition over the last four years. Check the metrics. He is incapable of evaluating and identifying talent.
Last year's draft he had 6 draft picks in the top 100. How many of these picks are starting and providing value contributions.
Josh Simmons is the only one that comes to mind, and he was dropped in the Chiefs lap. Time to address the elephant in the room! VEACH IS SIMPLY NOT GETTING THE JOB DONE.

  9. Good assessment. Cant stop 3rd downs which is brutal. Cant pressure the QB. Prob the big 2. And now oline issues with injuries. Which wont help. Curious if Mathieu addition could help. Just need to win out. Easy peezy!!

  10. great talent and players ay some defensive positions but overall as a unit they are far too inconsistent and it's not going to all of a sudden get better, it will take some time but KC will bounce back just not this season.

  11. If only we had this offense last season we would have won our games by more than won score and possibly won the Super Bowl…

  12. We have blown coverage on the left side of the back field with SS/CB C. Conner which teams are noticing. Got to do better in this position. This would help our offensive efforts more.

  13. Watch what happens they beat the Texans then go on a hot streak make it to the play offs then AFC championship and loose to the bills or patriots

  14. We’re also just undisciplined the defense is doing their usual bend but don’t break stick but then penalties are forcing them to stay on the field longer

  15. Proof stats are for baseball and Fantasy football, not actual football games. NFL doesn't play enough games to have actual usable data points. Would need to play at least a 30 game season to have any real useful data.
