QUESTION: Are Milwaukee Brewers Fans Ready For MASSIVE Winter Moves—Which Stars Won’t Be TRADED?

The baseball winner meetings start next week. General manager Matt Arnold says everything’s on the table. They a few guys who are definitely not on the table. That’s next here on Locked on Brewers. You are Locked On Brewers, your daily Milwaukee Brewers podcast, part of the Locked On podcast network. Your team every day. Buddy Chuck Freeman here, proud host of Lockdown Brewers, part of the Lockdown Podcast Network. We are your team every day. Now the number one sports podcast network in the world, longtime sports cer, talk show host here in the state of Wisconsin. Cover these teams forever and uh proud host, as I said, Unlocked on Brewers. Coming up on the show, yeah, the baseball winter meetings are starting next week. There’s a couple of guys though I don’t want to see traded at all. Although I want to see these guys have long-term contracts. What’s the latest on Freddy Peralta? We’ll tell you what Matt Arnold has to say. Gary Sheffield, it was awful for him. It was awful for us in his time in Milwaukee. He’s up for Hall of Fame consideration. Plus, the Powder Blues are back. Yes, they are. We’ll get to all that. Hope you’re enjoying your week, everybody. Chuck Freeman. Um, always great talking to you and those baseball winner meetings coming up next week in Orlando and Matt Arnold has said everything’s on the table, right? Well, you got to look at everything. And he’s talked about that mostly in terms of when he was asked about Freddy Peralta, what’s going to happen with Freddy this year? Well, he says everything’s on the table, but there’s a few guys. Obviously, I’m not against the Brewers making a blockbuster deal. If it means moving another piece, another piece, there’s a few pieces on this team I certainly don’t want to move. The top of my list, obviously, Jacob Miserowski. Jacob Miserowski is a future star in Major League Baseball. I don’t think it’s too early to say that, right? The guy throws 103, 104, and I’m not even going to include the All-Star appearance into it. Uh, the fact that he made the All-Star game five appearances into his major league career, but he’s a starter, and I know going into the season last year, we said, uh, what is Miz going to be, a starter or or a closer or a reliever? uh they brought him in and he started and he was fantastic and he came out of the bullpin during the postseason. I feel like there was a lack of trust with Miserowski that they had lost somewhere down the line, but it was regained in the postseason because the guy came in in long relief and certainly Miz was great, but I want Miz back in the starting rotation and certainly Miz is not on the table uh not today, not tomorrow, not anytime as far as a trade, at least in the foreseeable six years under team control. Another guy, obviously, Jackson Cheerio. Jackson Churio, and we’re going to talk about Gary Sheffield coming up here in a little bit. Jackson Cheerio is a much better a much better upgrade of Gary Sheffield. I see similarities in both their talents. I covered Chef back in his days when he came up with the Brewers in 1988, and I don’t have to tell you that he was a pain in the rear end to a lot of people in the Milwaukee Brewer organization. And uh we’ll get to that here in a little bit. But Jackson Churiel quite the opposite. Good kid, handles himself well. And you always wonder 18, 19, 20, 21 years old. How is that kid going to handle himself on the team? I think he’s been fantastic. And it helps that he’s had some mentors around him to help him out, right? The Contraruses, the Peraltas, guys like that. He’s had guys around him to help him out on this team. And Churio, I think we haven’t seen we haven’t seen the best of Cherio just yet. The best is yet to come with with Jackson Cheerio. I think he could be a 30 home run guy, 30 stolen base guy. I think he’s above average defender. And I, you know, the fact that they moved him to center field out of necessity this year and he was just fine. And yeah, he had a couple of hiccups up there, but who’s not going to? Having not played that position much since the minor leagues. Um, but I think what I’d like to see is Jackson move back out to left field. I know that’s his natural position. I want to see Jackson Churio in left field, but Jackson Turo obviously um he is not on the table for the Milwaukee Brewers here at the upcoming baseball winter meetings. Um, my third guy, Bryce Tang. I think Bryce Tang, I touted him through much of that second part of the season as an MVP candidate, right? Feels his position, hard-nosed player, was hitting with power this year and did a lot of things, a lot of clutch hits, a lot of big moments. Bryce Tang makes things happen on this team. And yeah, I’d love to see Bryce Tang have a long-term contract. buy him out of arbitration and keep Terraang. That’s one guy. Well, Jackson Centurio, too, and the Miz, but I mean, Terra, if the Brewers ever lost this guy, you know, he’s a guy you got to keep. Great draft pick and here to stay for the long term. On the other end of that book end, I look at our right fielder, Jack S. Freelick. I think Sal is a keeper as well. You know, S I don’t think he’s ever going to put up MVP type numbers. not never going to hit you 30 home runs like you like from a corner outfielder, but I like the intangibles that Felick really brings. Uh, in addition, he’s a good player. I’m not to take that. I’m not going to take that away from him. But what Freelick does, hard nose, runs the base pass, smart player, really good arm out in right field defensively, Gold Glove third baseman. Uh, Gold Glove right fielder. I know they tried him out at third baseman um a couple of years ago, but I think his I think is long term I think he’s not going to play third base. I think right field is it now. I think one of the reasons why they moved the Brewers tinkered with the idea of moving to third base is because you know maybe they could get in the power out in right field. I don’t think they they wish they could get more power out of him but I like S but he doesn’t make it for power. Style brings up with so many things. S another guy love to see this guy here longterm. So those are my right now untradeables Miz Curio Terraang and Freelick Durban. Dur’s going to be around for a while. Ortiz you know I haven’t talked much about Ortiz lately but definitely Ortiz is on the table. He’s I I don’t think there’s a Brewer fan out there who doesn’t say that Ortiz is untradable. He’s definitely on the table as a throwin on a deal. He Ortiz is one of those guys. He’s part of a package deal on whatever the Brewers do. Vaughn, I would trade Vaughn. I I’d trade Vaughn. I think the Brewers finally got themselves a first baseman. I I’m going to still take a wait and see on is he an everyday first baseman. I don’t even know. The Brewers feel like he’s an everyday first baseman. They resigned Jake Bowers. So, are we going to see a platoon at first base? The righty lefty thing that we saw at the end of the season between Bowers and Vaughn. I don’t know. That remains to be seen. Right now, Vaughn, I don’t see them trading him to be honest with you. But, you know, all these other guys, I mean, yellow trade in a heartbeat if I could. Maybe unpopular to some out there, popular to others. Garrett Mitchell, what could you get really for him? Well, Blake Perkins, there’s Isaac Collins, some of those other guys. Now, there’s guys in the rotation you definitely could get something for. And I mentioned the other day, Quinn Prester, he is not untradeable. Somebody would say, “Well, Chuck, why is it why don’t you have Quinn Pester in your untradeables?” No, I’d still trade him. I’d still trade him. He was great this year. Had that terrible start at Wrigley Field against the Cubs in the playoffs, but I’m not that going to let that preclude me. I think he’s a definitely a a middle of the order, middle of the rotation starter for the Brewers. I’m just not willing to get that guy as I wouldn’t any pitcher. As I said with the Miz the other day, any long-term buying out of any arbitration stuff, but Prester, if I could spin a deal, you know, maybe that’s what the Brewers do need. And you’re saying, well, 97 wins, why would they have to make a blockbuster trade? Shouldn’t they keep everybody intact? I think you do have to tinker with this team a little bit. I do think at with what they did this past year, I do believe they played a little bit over their heads. And I I thought I feel like the last couple of seasons they have and I do I’ll see a little regression. I think they’ll regress a little bit. Um not when I say regression, we’re talking 97 wins here, right? I mean they were unbelievable in the summer. That’s hard to duplicate. But right now going into the baseball winter meetings, the Brewers are still the best team in the NL Central. There’s no doubt about it. But one I I was reading on a St. Louis Cardinals page, a news page, might have been a blogger page. I think that’s what it was. It’s been around for a while. Redbird News or something like that. Uh they’re trying to trade William Contreras. Uh Wilson Contrarus, not Will Wilson, his brother. Uh and they listed a spot. They listed five teams that Wilson Contrarus could go to. And it sounds like their general manager, the new general manager, Bloom, is okay with dealing within the division. I don’t know if the Brewers would be able to do that, but in this case, this this site listed Wilson Contrarus as one of the possible places that Milwaukee could go. They said, “Well, he could play some first base and he could play some DH.” I don’t know. Certainly not trading any of my my second tier guys for Wilson Contrarus. No, I mean just to see the Contras brothers together. No, Wilson Contrarus. I’m fine with without trading any pieces and keeping what I got at first base and not giving anything up for Wilson Contrarus. I’m good in the DH spot if we’re going to keep going to keep um what we have Yellish at at the DH spot. All right, we don’t need to have Wilson Contrarus on this team. So, I saw that. Just thought I’d throw that out there. Uh an update on Freddy Peralta. What is um what’s the latest on Freddy Peralta? We’ll tell you what the general manager Matt Arnold said. That’s coming up next here on Lockdown Brewers. Lockdown Brewers part of the lockdown podcast network. We are your team every day. The Freddy Peralta update, it seems like it’s changing every day and you know throughout the week is like the Brewers are open to do it. The Brewers are not open to do it. Well, right now, according to Adam McKelie, he talked to general manager Matt Arnold, and it sounds like Arnold has been receiving offers for Peralta, but he says he has not been bowled over by any offers. And I told you a couple of days ago that the Brewers are getting a lot of offers for him and some good ones as well. But Arnold says he doesn’t see any offers, in his words, that quote unquote make sense for the Milwaukee Brewers to make. So, we’ll keep an eye on that. But the offers have been coming in. Obviously, with the price tag, with the quality that Peralta brings both on and off the field, um there’s going to be hopefully a nice price tag for the Milwaukee Brewers right there. But as of right now, the offers are coming in, but nothing has really bowled over general manager Matt Arnold. Brings us to Gary Sheffield. The contemporary baseball era committee will meet and decide whether or not Gary Sheffield should go in the Hall of Fame. Apparently on the ballot he’s run out his his time there and now it’s up to this uh committee to decide whether or not chef should go in. Chef played with a bunch of teams drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers uh in 1988. He played till he was 40 years old last season 2009. Now let me tell you when Gary came Gary actually came up here in 1988 and Gary uh the reason he was considered the top prospect uh one of the top prospects in baseball. Sheffield and he was down at TripleA and the Brewers had a shorts stop by the name of Dale Swain playing shortstop and he was Swain was adequate. He was more than adequate at shortstop. He was really good at shortstop and uh one night in Detroit, Swain was going back on a popup and Daryl, the late Daryl Hamilton was coming in. They had a collision. Swain broke his leg and Dale Swain was never the same again. Okay, switch hitter was terrific at shortstop. I thought I thought Swain had a great career ahead of him. Um, but he was done for the year and so the Brewers needed a shortstop. So they brought up Gary Sheffield and Sheffield, man, he came up here and he had that fast bat through the zone and he was fantastic. So he finishes off the season. Brewers aren’t a penetent race. They don’t make the postseason and Gary finishes up at shortstop. Well, the next year they want to move Gary to third base and he’s not liking it because they have another prospect coming up, Bill Spires. And Gary’s not happy playing third base and he’s complaining because he feels like some of the teammates don’t have his back on he was hit by a few pitches and he felt like uh some of the pitchers or teammates did not have his bat back and all that and he was causing problems at 19 years old. And this is back what I was saying about Cheriel. Churio doesn’t cause those kind of issues that Sheffield caused here. So Gary was complaining complaining complaining. Uh he was comp complaining about Milwaukee. It’s hard to believe that the Brewers put up with him until 88 89 90 91. He played here four seasons. It’s surprising surprising that the Brewers went through that because sometimes when you’re a pain like Savale wanted to get traded and they got rid of him quickly. A lot of times when you’re unhappy today they get rid of you, man. They hung on to Sheffield for four years. One of his quotes, I hated everything about that place. Talking about Milwaukee. Well, Gary, you know what? You weren’t too good of a teammate either. And we later found out of all the teams you bounced around to, well, it wasn’t a team problem. It was a Gary Sheffield problem. Gary has all the talent in the world. And I don’t think that, you know, being just a terrible clubhouse guy should preclude him from going into the Hall of Fame, but certainly he was not a very good teammate while he was here. And every time he came back to Milwaukee, he was booed. Brewers eventually traded him before the season started in 1992. I traded him to San Diego. And I I mean I was sad to see him go, but I understood he did not like Harry Dalton, the Brewers general manager. Who doesn’t like Harry Dalton? He he he claimed he hated Harry Dalton. Huh, Gary. All he had to do is go out there and play and be a good teammate. That’s all that’s ever asked. But he’s what one of the few guys the Brewers have ve have had very very few guys in their entire franchise history who I can say was a pain in the rear end and a bad clubhouse guy. Gary Sheffield definitely was it. Now Hall of Fame talent without question and yeah and I’m sure that’s precluding him from getting into the Hall of Fame, right? Guy hits. 500 home runs he should be in. But um he needed to be a better team and I just you know I don’t look fondly back on my days of Gary Sheffield with the Milwaukee Brewers. Not at all. And that’s a that’s a good lesson for anybody out there whe whether it’s the workplace or being on a team. Don’t be a pain in the in the rear end to your boss or your fellow co-workers or your teammates. And Gary made things miserable for a lot of people. I mean, h got monitor and y on that team. You can’t have two better teammates than that. Somehow Gary found a reason to make it a bad situation in Milwaukee. Spring training 1992, they got rid of him. All right, the powder blues are back for the Milwaukee Brewers. The Brewers have announced their new road jerseys. I absolutely love them. I love me some powder blue. We’ll talk about that coming up next here on Lockdown Brewers. Lockdown Brewers brought to you by FanDuel, America’s number one sports book for a reason. [Music] Thanks for making us your number one listen to every day here on Lockdown Brewers, part of the Lockdown Podcast Network. We are your team every day. Clubhouse store is open this weekend uh for these new Brewer jerseys and the Clubhouse sale is going on this weekend. Well, that’s going on. Yeah, that’s going on this weekend. They had an early entrance for, I believe, season ticket holders earlier this week. And I always look at the clubhouse sale. There’s a chance to go in there and not only can you get some game used stuff, but you can go into the clubhouse, the visitors clubhouse. I believe they still have it at the visitors clubhouse. Uh they have had it and just take it all in and get a little taste of the ballpark in the middle of winter, right? Um and get the blood blood flowing for baseball season for next year if lockdown brewers doesn’t already do that for you. But the clubhouse sale is going on and they’re also going to be they’ve also unveiled the new powder blue jerseys and I think they’re fantastic. They’re going to be worn on the road. Milwaukee road powder blue. They are ditching the the road grays, which I like, but I’m not a fan of team like, you know, teams wearing seven or eight different jerseys. And the reason why they do that is to market it to us fans, right? But they’re going to be going with the powder blue road uniforms. And it reminds me I I love the Brewer powder blue jerseys from 8276 when the Brewers first came in in 1970. when they came here from Seattle, they wore the powder blue. And somebody asked on Twitter the other day, uh, what’s your favorite jerseys? And I said, “Oh, the powder blue.” So, they haven’t won worn powder blue for a long time. Although those Brew Crew jerseys, the alternate Brew Crew jerseys, those are powder blue, right? Or they I think they’re considered powder blue. But I like them. I love these jerseys. They’re going to be great. I’m going to get me one this weekend at the Clubhouse store. hopefully not paying an exorbitant amount of fee. I can only imagine what the prices are going to be down there. Heard the clubhouse prices went up a little bit too. The clubhouse sale and the hoodies and all that. I saw people couple people put that out on Twitter. The prices are up a little bit. But anyways, uh good good excuse to head down to the ballpark uh here in the next couple of days and take advantage of that. But going to buy myself a powder blue jersey, a blank one, no number or I got a several jerseys from um you know game warn stuff, but I want to get my hands on one of these here. I think they look fantastic. Um so Merowski was modeling them on social media the other day and it was cool. I didn’t know they were going to go to the Powder Blues, but here they are going to go to the Powder Blues. All right, baseball winter meetings next week in in Orlando. We’ll see what the Brewers do. They’ll be laying some groundwork, no doubt, if they don’t make a move there. Uh they’ve been known to lay the groundwork at the baseball winter meetings and then maybe a week or two later consummate a trade with other teams. But as I mentioned, you know, there’s a few guys there who I definitely don’t think are on the table, but there are a lot of guys who are on the table who maybe some might consider untradeable. I think Will Contrarus to me is on the table. I think Quinn Pester to me is on the table. Yell is on the table to me, but he’s not on the table for the Brew organization because he’s like a son to Mark Antinasio and he ain’t trading his son. So, all right. Our podcast, you get it on Google, Spotify, Apple, wherever you download your audio podcasts. We’re the number one brewers podcast on the internet. Also, hit me on on Twitter as well. 1. Give me a break, Contreras isn't on the trading block when they have nothing behind him at this point. A ton of question marks with Quero after his injury and not being able to throw anybody out anymore.
