MASSIVE Dereck Lively Injury Update…- We Are COOKED…| Dallas Mavericks News
We have a massive Derek Lively injury update and we just might be cooked. The Dallas Mavericks have been dealing with injuries all season long. That’s nothing new to this team. We’re actually on a three-game winning streak looking to get our fourth win tonight against the Oklahoma City Thunder. And although we’re missing key players, the Dallas Mavericks have been learning how to persevere and overcome these obstacles for the betterment of the team. I mean, our offense is like night and day over the last several games. Our defense is still doing well. But if the Dallas Mavericks want to have longevity and have longer success until Kyrie Irving returns, we will need some of our key players back from injuries. And one of those players being Derek Lively, who unfortunately has been dealing with injuries all season long. He has that knee injury that sidelined him earlier in the season. And while he was sidelined, his foot, the same foot that he injured last season, the same foot he had surgery on over the summer, has just reared its ugly head back up. And he’s missing even more time. And unfortunately, we did get an update yesterday detailing exactly what’s going on with Derrick Lively, and things do not look well for the young center. So, in this video, we’re going to take a look at Derrick Lively, see what’s going on with his knee, his foot, if this is normal, as well as what should the Mavericks do with him moving forward. But, how’s it going everybody? My name is Marcel Martin. This is Mavericks Digest, bringing you the latest news on everything Mavericks related. And before we get started with today’s video, we’re currently sitting at 23,475 subscribers, getting very close to our goal of 25K. But if you want to be up to date on everything Mavericks related, make sure you subscribe. But the Dallas Mavericks, as we all know by now, it’s kind of just part of our lore is that we will always perpetually be injured. There’s always going to be a player out, whether it’s Dante Exam missing the entirety of the season. Kyrie Irving as we’re waiting patiently for him to return. As many fans have pointed out, they’re just waiting for Anthony Davis to get hurt again. Regardless of who it is, the Dallas Mavericks have been battle tested over the last year, it feels like, where every player seems to miss time. And then we have to be creative. We have to figure out how to win. Who can we put in the lineup? How do we change up our rotations and I know a lot of Mavericks fans have been frustrated with our coaching staff, but to their credit, they are starting to figure things out. I said earlier how the Dallas Mavericks are on a three-game winning streak where we have had to slowly but surely over the last 20 25 games figure out what works and what doesn’t work. We put Klay Thompson on the bench, Max Christie in the starting lineup. We finally put a point guard in the starting lineup and not having Cooper Flag pay play point guard and over the last two games we’ve had Anthony Davis play the center position. The Dallas Mavericks are figuring it out. But if we want to have sustained longevity with the success, we need our players healthy. And one player who has always made an impact for this Dallas Mavericks team, especially on the defensive end, has been Derek Lively. But unfortunately, his injuries just seem to pile up. And it looks like we’re unsure of when he’ll actually come back. If we take a look at where it all started earlier this year on November 25th, we got the news from Mark Stein saying it’s feared that Derrick Lively will miss extended time. Derrick Lively is being evaluated for swelling and discomfort in his right foot. A timeline will be given in 7 to 10 days and we are around that 7 to 10 day mark but when we got this news it was un it was a little bit unclear of what’s going on. We knew that Derek Live was missing time due to a right knee strain but we didn’t know anything about the foot. Then we found out that it was the same foot that he injured earlier last season where Nico Harrison had him play and or I’m sorry had him practice with bone spurs with a foot fracture. He went through a full practice and he almost played a full game until one of the team doctors intervened and said, “No, he needs an MRI before anything.” Fortunately, they stopped it. He was able to get surgery, try to fix whatever fix whatever was wrong with his foot, so he wouldn’t have a a long so he could have a longer career. So, he didn’t have an injury that would just cut his career short. But unfortunately, it looks like his career, not trying to put out there that his career is over, but it does not look good for Derrick Lav moving forward. But a one thing that I do want to just point out first is that the swelling in his foot is normal. Shout out to Victor Lugo on Twitter who said doesn’t seem to be uncommon after the surgery he had and the ramp up where especially during the 3mon post-operative adaptation phase and can last for 3 to 6 months or even longer. So the swelling in Derek Lavy’s foot is normal for the most part. This is part of the healing process with bone spurs, with foot fractures. It is unfortunate that he’s dealing with this. But we did get more unfortunate news about Derrick Lively yesterday. We’ll just go straight into that where breaking news. The Dallas Maverick center Derek Live II who has been sidelined due to swelling and discomfort in his right foot is currently seeking multiple options on the next step in his treatment process via Maz PR. And Mark Stein followed that up by saying the Mavericks have been fearing an extended absence for Derek Lively for uh as the Stein line first reported on November 25th. And Lively was seen this week at a team event with his right foot in a walking boot. And this does not look good for Derrick Lively. Dererick Lively is essentially injuryprone. And that’s very unfortunate for someone as talented as him in the third year of his career already. He’s almost missed more games than he’s played. And that’s not good for a young center. It’s very reminiscent of of Joel Embiid. If you look at Joel Embiid for his entirety of his career, he has almost missed more time than games played. And obviously, he’s played a full career. He’s been an MVP. He’s never made it out of the second round. So, unfortunately, his career seems to be at the tail end. But for someone like Derek Lively, this is not something you want to see this early on his career. Fortunately for the Dallas Mavericks, we know how to win games when guys are injured. We have other backups. We have Anthony Davis playing the five and he’s been doing a good job. We know that PJ can play small ball five as well. Daniel Gaffford has been also dealing with injuries, but we know that we have him. We have Dwight Pal. We have Musa Cisce. were not hurt too bad at the five spot. But Derek Lively is supposed to be the future of this team. Him, Cooper Flag, Ryan Imhard, Max Christie, PJ, like the young core includes Derrick Lively, but we can’t have him part of the young core if he’s not healthy. And I’m not saying that we have to trade him. I mean, some people may want to trade him if he’s not going to be available. See what you can get for him, but a young injury-prone Derek Lively won’t really fetch you much on the market unless you package him up with someone else. I know the Anthony Davis trades have been going all over the place. Maybe throw him in there. I’m not too sure. But the Dallas Mavericks have a long road ahead of them. It may be a tough one if these injuries don’t get under control. And I don’t blame the training staff that we have right now. They can’t magically wave their hands and Derrick Lavy can walk again. This is something that happened last season and is reoccurring. And the only way things will get better is with time. He’s going to have to miss more time, which is ultimately going to hurt him in in the long run. If Derrick Lively isn’t healthy to play on the court, that’s a two-fold problem. He’s not in the gym getting better and progressing in his development with Tyson Chandler and the rest of the team, but also he’s not on the court with Kyrie Irving or any good top point guard like he had with Luca to help further his development. Unfortunately, Derek Lively is at a full stop right now, and we have no real idea of when things will get better for him. And to put things into perspective, Grant Abs tweeted out, “The Dallas Mavericks have played 99 regular season games with Derrick Lively in the lineup since the start of his rookie season. Friday’s game in Oklahoma City will mark the 90th regular season game played without Derrick Lively available since his NBA debut. So, not counting the playoff run that we had in his rookie year, Derek Lively is about nine or 10 games away from missing more games than played. And that is not something that you want moving forward. There’s been a lot of young centers that were very, very promising, but unfortunately, injuries have held them back. You look at someone like James Wiseman or you look at someone like Marvin Bagley, they’re still in the NBA, but they’re struggling because health has held them back. And the way things are looking, Derrick Lively may also be in that same tier. Now, maybe this means that we don’t have to pay him that much if we do choose to keep him. But if we want to keep this team talented, if you want to keep this team competitive, if you want to have a future with this team, you need to get the health under control or you need to go find players who can and will stay healthy. But tomorrow against Oklahoma City Thunder, we do have some good news on the injury front as PJ Washington and Daniel Gaffford have been listed as questionable for tonight’s I’m sorry, for tomorrow, yeah, tonight’s game uh against Oklahoma City Thunder. And then if you look at the Oklahoma City Thunder injury report, it looks way worse than ours. Lou Dort is out. Isaiah Hardenstein is out. Alex Caruso is out. Nicole Topek is out. Thomas Sorber is out. Brandon Carlson is available. Their two-way guys are probable. So overall, the Dallas Mavericks should win tonight. Make sure you’re subscribed. We are going live for that game. Anthony Davis should be the best player on the court as well as being the biggest player on the court. I don’t think Czech can do anything to AD. We hopefully if we have PJ and Daniel Gaffer back, this should be a massive win for the Dallas Mavericks. It’ll be our fourth win in a row. We snap the Oklahoma City Thunder winning streak. We will then have the longest active winning streak. But when it comes to Derrick Lively, things do not look good. There’s no timetable to return. It’s a reoccurring injury. It’s in his foot again. He’s looking for other options because whatever they’re doing doesn’t seem to be working. But let me know in the comments section down below. Do you think that we should give up on Derrick Lively and just trade him? Do you think that that there’s no coming back from this injury for him or do you think that time heals all wounds and we just have to be patient like we were with Anthony Davis? I’d love to hear your comment or I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comment section below. But that’s all I got for you guys today. Thank you for watching the video. Make sure to check out our Twitter and Discord links in the description below. And as always y’all take care, drink water. Peace.

Lively is more injury prone than AD, I didnt think that was possible 😅🤣😂
I liked lively when he was healthy not changing on him now and he's a good presence from what I've seen in the locker room. He's a mav now
Derrick A. Davis. SMH
May be he will grow another 2 inches with proper rest
Honestly ur worrying about lively to much I’ve seen enough this season to see he has no post moves and needs a true point to make plays offensively Garfford on the other hand can make offensive plays and has post moves and doesn’t even need a point guard like how lively does, we should trade lively!
Lively and AD can't be traded with positive return for Mavs.
Here's another subject that you're overblowing again as if it's the end of the world but how about we fire Nico…💪🫡💯
I agree. We'll see. Okc is still really good even with all their injuries. They only lost 1 game when j. Will was out. Lively should be shutdown until he is 100%. I think gafford should not have come back earlier in the season when he came back until he was fully healthy. That came back to bite us. The crazy thing is, I actually think even when healthy, pj and Gafford should come off the bench. This new starting lineup have amazing chemistry. There's no sense in breaking it up now
I told yall, while yall pickin on AD. Lively is just as guilty of not being available.
give moussa cisse more playing time – trade gafford – give derek the kyrie treatmeant…they are not cooked
exum – gone soon for nembhardt
hardy should be traded
Nico’s training/med staff probably seriously harmed him last year when the staff was arguing with each other and then the head one got him on the to play chart and had him practicing and something happened and they finally did the tests that showed his foot was messed up..
3:19 Glad you mentioned it I was going bonkers all last season that all those injuries couldn’t just be bad luck. Way to much smoke for there not to be a fire(Nico)
Mavs need to trade for Zubac
Ky will have missed more games than played for mavs soon.
If the Mavs smart, go and get Giannis, Luka tryna prevent that on the low lol.
Maybe Mavs should hire a well respected guy like Casey Smith of the Knicks! 🙂
Lively needs to be traded to the raptors, he is good friends with gradey. Let Ben Rogers deal with him.
Dude, shut up. You're corny
jason kidd shoulda let him shoot 3s and space the floor so he wouldnt have to bang down low with centers twice his weight
GET OUT YOUR MOM'S BASEMENT WITH THESE WHACK REPORTS LIVELY AND GAFFORD AT CENTER A.D AT POWER FOWARD 🔋 KEEP OUR TEAM TOGETHER BRING LUKA BACK IN 3 YEARS WITH HELP FROM DIRK 💙💚
As much as I like Lively, I fear he has some chronic injuries that aren't going away easily. This sucks because he has such great potential.
Why didn’t we keep either Kai Jones or Moses Brown
DLive is more AD than AD at 21 years old🤦
poor kid
