Trade Targets who BEST Fit the #Mariners | #SeattleSports

None of them are perfect. I mean, that’s why they’re available, right? Number one is Catel Marte. He is at his core a significantly better version of Jorge Palano. Why do we keep talking about Palano? That flexibility is key. Marte offers it except he can also play short. He can also play the outfields and he’s just a better hitter. This is where I think it gets most interesting because I think these three players are available, good fits, and a little bit more reasonably priced in terms of what you’d have to give up. And that’s the three second baseman, Brandon Laauo, Brendan Donovan, and Jake Kronorth. But as you look at it, Brendan Donovan stands out. He really does.

Brock Huard and Mike Salk (Brock & Salk) discuss potential trade targets for the Mariners in the 2025 offseason as the winter meetings approach.

  1. Fans are deluded into thinking they can get Ketel Marte to play 3B. If the D-Backs could get Ketel to play 3B, then the D-Backs wouldn’t have traded for Geno Suarez. You got to keep your stars happy.

  2. Ketel Marte is 32.1 yr old with $102..5M/ 6 yr remaining on his contract. Remember that the 6th year is a PLAYER OPTION not a CLUB OPTION. Ketel will be 38 year old at the end of the contract. This is not a rental so fans shouldn’t expect just prospects to get him. The D-Backs want a MLB ready young pitcher as part of a package. The D-Backs were 3GB from the playoffs in 2025. Note that Ketel is better than Kyle Tucker in qualitative terms so he will garner a haul to get him. I can see Bryce Miller , Cole Young, and Luis Castillo going to the D-Backs for Ketel. This is talent for talent.

Fans have to look at it from D-Backs’ point of view. Miller is still not enough to balance out the trade. Castillo would be perfect. Cole Young is expendable as he will be blocked by Ketel and D-Backs want a prospect level 2B. You are trading for someone better than Kyle Tucker. It is gonna cost you. The D-Backs with Geraldo Perdomo and Corbin Carroll as well as this new rotation (Ryne Nelson, Eduardo Rodriguez, Bryce Miller, and Luis Castillo) would make them playoff contenders. The D-Backs will still need more in the starting rotation, but this is a start.
