It somehow got WORSE… – Blues making MOVES

The St. Louis Blues have made a very interesting move to their roster as they continue to deal with a plethora of injuries. We’re going to break that down. But not only that, it’s somehow has gotten worse for this team with media members, fans, players, and even Jim Montgomery himself left dumbfounded and searching for answers. We’re going to break it all down in this episode of Blues Digest. But before we get into all of that, a quick reminder to hit that subscribe button. We’ve noticed that less than 70% of you who watch these videos, just under 70% of you are not subscribed to the channel. So, if you want to stay up to date with everything that’s happening with the St. Louis Blues, go down below, hit that free subscribe button, and we really appreciate all the support we’ve been getting on the channel. We’re almost at 5,000 subscribers. Thank you so much, Blues fans, for allowing us to get so close to that great milestone. We really appreciate it. But, let’s jump into things today. We have a lot to talk about. Another disappointing loss and a stat that is going to absolutely blow your mind. We’re going to get to that in a little bit. But first order of business, Matt Luff has been recalled to the St. Louis Blues from the Springfield Thunderbirds. Now, why is that a big deal? I think it gives us some insight into what’s happening with the team. As you can see here, they’re dealing with a lot of injuries right now. We know that a lot of guys are out. Casamaki actually made his NHL debut last night. As you can see here, he was going for his rookie lap in Boston, which that building normally holds some nice memories for St. Louis Blues fans, but unfortunately not yesterday. We will get to that in just a little bit. But as you can see here, BH Navich is on the third line. They’re dealing again with a lot of injuries. Fowler was skating with Mayu a little bit as well. Uh they’re just messing with a lot of stuff. I mean, Jim Montgomery is searching for answers at this point. You can see in terms of the uh injury list, you got Snugaroo is out for an extended period of time. Torpchenko should be back somewhat soon. He’s still dealing with that weird burn injury. Nathan Walker is out for two months and Zack Dean we know has been, you know, in the player assistance program for quite some time at this point now. Uh Matt Luff has been recalled. He’s an interesting story. Still relatively young. We were talking about how it was a sneaky good signing uh when they, you know, originally signed him and I do still believe that. I think he could actually see some time here. We’ll see how that plays out uh you know on the roster. Matthew Kessle also in um you know the press box right now as well because if you take a look at the lineup they’re rocking with Broberg on the top line with Pico right now like I mentioned Fowler was skating with Mayu and Tucker is now with Faulk. So Matthew Kessle on the outside looking in for Logan Mayu. So let me know how you feel about that callup. Pretty interesting move there. I do wonder if he gets some time there. Pasamaki uh looked all right, but I I do wonder if they try Matt Luff in there or if it’s just to have an extra guy in there for practices just to fill out the roster with how many injuries they are currently dealing with. Now, to move on to some other stuff. This team, ladies and gentlemen, um this team stinks. This is a bad team at this point. And we were hyping them up in the summer and Mark and I would like to formally apologize to everybody because this team officially stinks. There’s no ifands or buts about it. another super disappointing loss. And when asked about the loss um and on the issues, Jim Montgomery said, “It’s an effort thing.” Guys, this is a horrific quote. If you’re a fan, you never want to hear your coach say that it’s an effort thing. And this, of course, is from Jeremy Rutherford, who does some great work uh covering the St. Louis Blues, of course. But he goes, “How does that happen?” Or he was asked, “How does that happen?” And he goes, “I have to take a look at the film to have a better answer for you, but I know it starts from within from everybody.” body. And he’s also right by the way, like this team definitely has it within them to be a good team. Injuries are not. They do and they’re not playing well. So surprised that you’re still wanting to see more effort this deep into the season. He said yes. And Monty on the areas where the Blues could have been better tonight. He said every single area. So every single one. And it’s true. They could have been better in so many different areas. And check out this stat. And this is not this is not even the most mind-blowing stat that I’m going to bring up. Wait just a few seconds for that one. The Blues have scored two goals or fewer in nine of their last 10 games. In those 10 games, covering 30 regulation periods. They have scored no goals in 15 of those periods and one goal in 12 of them. So, 27 of 30 periods, they have had one goal or less. This team can’t they can’t score. And we were talking about in the beginning of the season, goalending sucks. They can’t defend. They can’t score either. They’re not doing anything. And that leads me to this. The St. Louis Blues, ladies and gentlemen, are the only team in the NHL on December 5th, at the time I’m recording this in the morning, without 10 wins this year. Every other team has at least 10 wins around the league. Absolutely ridiculous. It’s a joke. They’re last in the league in that category. every single team has, and I appreciate the the meme from Blues Buzz as well, but if you take a look at the standings, they’re not even last in the league, which is also pretty crazy because they’ve lost more games in overtime uh than other teams. Of course, below them, Nashville, Calgary, Vancouver, and that’s just for the Western Conference. If you take a look at the entire league, Buffalo’s in the mix as well, but they’ve just lost more games in overtime. That’s the only reason that they have more points, uh because they’re the only team in the league that hasn’t won 10 games yet. Look at the teams under them. Vancouver’s in last. Calgary there in second last Nashville right below the Blues all have at least 10 wins. The Blues don’t even have double- digit wins yet. And it’s December 5th. It’s ridiculous. This team is not good. They’re not playing well. They’re dealing with a lot of injuries. I can appreciate that. But a minus 29 goal differential as well. They have not been good. And when talking about the goalending, we can talk about the the goalending stats all season. These guys are rocking a sub 900 safe percentage. Both of them, Hoer and Bennington. And at times they both look good this year. like you can pick out a couple games for both where you’re like they were the reason that the Blues won these games, but they haven’t been good overall. And I thought Jim Montgomery had a very interesting quote on Jordan Bennington from last night in a 5-2 loss to the Boston Bruins. He said, “I think Jordan Bennington was one of our better players tonight. If it wasn’t for him, it could have been a lot worse.” And Jordan Bennington loves that building. He won the Stanley Cup in that building. He won the Four Nations faceoff in that building. And he played a decent game again last night. Letting him five goals, right? But it was on the Blues. There’s no structure here. And it’s not even that there’s no structure. They’re just not playing there. There’s no effort, right? And I I think that’s a scary place to be because if it was a structure thing, if some of your game plan wasn’t working, but the guys are giving an effort, then you can tweak some stuff. These guys, they don’t have, you know, a care in the world right now. That’s what it looks like for some of these guys, right? Doug Armstrong is not going to sit on his hands for much longer. There’s going to be a trade coming here soon if this continues. And they, you know, they’ve been picking up points. We were talking about the schedule the last little while. they’ve been picking up points and I’ll leave the uh goalending stats up for you guys here to just take in this fantastic statistical line but and it’s awful even the goals against average everything they’ve just not been good this year uh but you know it it’s an effort thing to me right now and that’s a scary place to be if you are uh you know a fan of this team now you can see this from Blu’s views with the expectation or the exception excuse me of 2021 2022 every year since 2020 has been the same the most uh a mostly unenjoyable team with very little to get excited for. They’ll win some games. They might even make it a fight to make the playoffs, but it’s very unserious or they’re a very unserious and mid team. I’m tired. And a lot of Blues fans are sharing that same sentiment this year especially. What if they go on another run and maybe they make the playoffs, you know, they do this every year and or most years and Blues fans are tired of playing catchup. I think that’s the sentiment right now around uh with all Blues fans. So, it’s very interesting right now. I don’t think and let me know how you feel about the call up. I don’t know if it’s anything significant. I feel like he could get into some games here. Jim Montgomery saying it’s an effort thing. He’s saying that his goalender was the one that kept them in a 5 to2 game which is a little bit shocking as well. Dylan Holloway is not having a good season. He only has 14 points in 28 games. I thought he’d be much better. I thought he’d be a point a game player. He’s been up and down the lineup. Braden Shen has been absolutely abysmal. He has nine points in 28 games. He’s playing under 17 minutes a night now. They’re not relying on him, not putting him in certain situations. It’s been tough. He could be on the trade block, could be on his way out. Doug Armstrong is not going to sit on his hands for much longer, ladies and gentlemen. But before we wrap up, let’s get into comment of the day, which comes from Philip Woody. And he says, “Lock Broberg down. He is a solid defender, one of our best players, probably the most important move the Blues make for our future.” And I totally agree with that. They got to get it done sooner rather than later. It makes some sense as to why both sides are not getting it done. But for Doug Armstrong, you got to start talking about it because things could go south very quickly. We know how those things change. Get him locked up. He is going to be the future of this team on the blue line along with Logan Mayu, which seems a little crazy to say right now, but it is true. Uh, but get him locked up and I think that Doug Armstrong’s going to start working the phones because yes, the last couple weeks they have been picking up some points. The effort thing, it’s just not good enough. And I think you got to start moving some bodies or at least threaten to move some bodies, right? Maybe that’ll get some guys going, but I feel like they’ve already done that two weeks ago and we covered that on the channel as well. Let me know how you feel in the comments below. We’ll be back for another video tomorrow. Should be a very interesting weekend of Blues hockey. We’ll see if they get back on track. Hasn’t been the case so far this season. Let me know how you feel in the comments below. And if you haven’t yet, hit that subscribe button so you can stay up to date with everything St. Please.

  1. It might be time to start focusing on the new core Holloway,Broberg,Mailloux, Dvorsky, Snuggerud, Carbanneau etc. Maybe name a new captain in Jake and cutting loose with the rest ,firing the coach isnt happening this time ,last night there was lack of focus, lack of urgency and just straight lack of wanting to be physical ,smh i dont know if that 1.6 seconds emotionally killed the passion for this team of some of the players but maybe they nees to head out and seek new enviroments
One thing i will never doubt is Binner, always thoughtful in his answers and youncan tell he actually cares and wants to compete. It would be a mistake not have him remain and retire as a Blue let us have at least one that we dont have to share with another team please

  2. blues announcers also suck … the broadcast team is bottom 3 with strickland .. boston is worse than the blues and thats about it .. where the fak did this strickland weasel come from ?

  3. I was ready for this to be a successful season but at this point I really think its time to move out some players and try to get the #1 pick fingers crossed I dont believe there is anything that can change how this team is playing right now. Every aspect of this team sucks right now!

  4. Hey hey ho ho, Montgomery has to go!
Last year on paper the blues looked bad, yet they did so good. He didn't have to do anything well he did some things😢
This year looks good on paper no chemistry and defense sucks goalies I think are good. Yet all his moves or most are for offense. The team needs chemistry and hes not doing anything about that. Im leaning more of this on Montgomery who knows maybe its Armstrong.

  5. It sucks being a Blues fan when it's been the same story since we won the cup: Suck really bad at the beginning of the season, play decent after the break, and either barely miss or barely make it into the playoffs. I'm tired of it. We need to play like we do after the break, except do it for the whole season.

  6. I think the worst part of the entire problem is that no one knows what it is. And if they do know then it has tried to become fixed and just can’t, either way just plain awful any which way you look about it.

  7. No heart & soul on defense. Been saying since they failed to re-sign Petro that the lack of D was going to kill this team……and here we are.

  8. Line shuffling while healthy hasn’t built cohesion imo. Buch and schenn have minutes above their capacity at this point. If their contracts can be moved (Buchnevich ntc and ownership not eating salary makes that near impossible) that’s addition by subtraction Goaltending has been streaky. D depth is poor

  9. I think everyone is wondering what's going on. Someone in that locker room — maybe several someones — are a poison in the room. They are at least (so far as we know) keeping it in the room for now.

I know everyone would love to say, "Hey, 2019, we can do it!" Except… we don't have another Jordan Binnington down at Springfield right now waiting to bust out. We don't have an Alex Pietrangelo or a Ryan O'Reilly in the locker room pushing things. And, honestly, I don't think changing the coach is the answer. (I'm sure THAT will get some disagreement. Well, whoever you are, you're wrong.)

Binner isn't going to be playing in the 4 Nations or the Olympics. There's no mid-season resurrection happening there. Can a move be made to shake up this team? Sure. What is that move? Who knows??? And right now nobody is going to give a bag of pucks for ANYONE on this roster. I think there needs to be a wholesale shift of lines. Move Thomas to second line. Put Buch on fourth. Bench Kyrou again. Ride Hofer for six games in a row. At this point, we have NOTHING TO LOSE.

  10. UNTIL G.M. ARMSTRONG CAN ADMIT that his man MR. BINNINGTON is mentally shot after all of his pathetic antics the last couple of years, the team is not going to improve. HE CAN GET 2 TO 3 ALL-STAR DEFENCMEN and it will not help the team. SOOOOO KEEP BINNINGTON IN NET for the next 30 games and see if we can lose 30 in a row!

  11. The blues are sucking this season because of the voodoo this channel has put on them. They haven't been a fraction of the team they were last year in the playoffs, is it a coincidence since this channel was created? I don't think so. Be a part of the 70%, let's make it more!

  12. Remember game 7 against the Bruins, when the Blues won 5-1. If Binnington had a bad night, the Blues would have lost 12 -1. They gave away the puck at least 6 times every period and Binnington stood on his head to save the game!!
Montgomery style doesn't work in St Louis, as he lost game 7 again!!!!
