I'm sure some of you watched the Athletic Football Show's recap of the TNF game and I appreciated their perspective on the game. The quotes in the title are from the first minute of the conversation.

If you don't watch/listen to the show, they are a national show and the host is a Bears fan. I just started paying attention to them this past summer and I find them generally insightful and even-handed. I've thought their critiques of the Lions this year were fair and accurate, and they also don't strike me as a big "make hot takes to get clicks" kind of show.

All that to say, I felt like their effusiveness of Goff was genuine and, to me, a little surprising. I think because I watch him every week, I tend to key in on his weaknesses, and his lack of mobility/creativity is more than well documented at this point.

It's nice to hear some praise from Goff from a (in my opinion) intelligent and neutral source. As is often the case, Goff didn't wow with a lot of deep balls or elusiveness in the pocket. But he logged another game with >70% completion percentage and no turnovers. He had great chemistry with ARSB, Jamo, and Gibbs. He had a lot of pressure the first couple drives but stayed the course and remained steady once the protection settled in a little bit.

I have been super critical of our QB lately so I wanted to share some positivity.

  1. I love when JG goes off. Unbelievable postgame vibes. I hope he follows through with his hilarious promise last night to strip his shirt off if we ever win the Super Bowl!

  2. His ability to hit ARSB and Jaymo in stride while they’re sprinting is a thing of beauty

  3. He really doesn’t get enough credit. I feel like I’m constantly defending him to people I watch games with. They shit on him for looking slow in the pocket on a few plays and ignore everything else. He’s been amazing this year, playing with pretty much a completely reworked offensive line, and has been extremely consistent. Love me some Goff!

  4. The one thing that has always impressed me about Goff is his ability to get rid of the ball when the play breaks down and throw it at the feet of someone is uncanny. He is VERY good at that

  5. I feel like his long ball has been waaay off these days. I know hes known to not be good at it but that’s not my experience the last few years.

  6. Goff is elite as far as throwing the ball goes. He’s just not mobile. Clean pocket Goff is the best QB in the NFL and it’s not close.

  7. I’ll admit he’s played better, even in the Green Bay game, but I still think he folds under pressure and has a limited range on how far he can throw accurately, his deep balls are fucking abysmal. Which sucks because that’s where guys like Jamo and Teslaa should shine.

  8. The Goff slander is stupid. Look at his numbers. He’s having a terrific season. Despite the OC changes and all the injuries, he is the constant.
