MAJOR Cowboys Rumors On George Pickens From ESPN: Issues In Dallas, Extension + Richard Sherman Feud
Welcome back into the Cowboys Report. Tom Downey here as always. We are discussing George Pickkins on today’s show. All the different things going on there after coming off maybe his worst performance of the year for the Cowboys. I do think some of the Fallout stuff is an overreaction, but there’s also a lot of interesting ESPN reporting that I think even more relevance that came out before the game, now even more relevant afterwards. Coming up, some of the Steelers concerns, why they were okay moving on, and why, make no mistake, for the most part, it has worked with the Dallas Cowboys, the impact of guys like Dak Prescott, the current issues, and of course, we will discuss the Richard Sherman call out of Pickkins. Before we dive into that, because this is, you know, somehow we went from three games ago, two games ago to pick his is wide receiver, one trade CD Lamb, which I was stupid from the beginning, too. Now you don’t you don’t want to keep pickings at all in a two game swing. Whatever. Do you want to keep him? Why for yes for no? But many things are true in this conversation. One of which is Pickkins wasn’t good against the Detroit Lions. It’s football. It happens. You have bad games. How you respond matters more than anything. Richard Sherman on the Amazon Prime broadcast absolutely ripped into George Pickins because you know Sherman’s a corner. He doesn’t like receivers. That’s how he’s always he’s always been a very uh call out guy. Says the big story here is George Pickkins throughout the game especially late in the game looked uninterested in playing football. And that’s what you can’t have if you’re going to be a superstar. If you want to be the best receiver in the NFL, you can’t ever be disengaged. Doesn’t matter if the game is going your way or not going your way. You just can’t disappear in these games or else you’re not going to have an impact. I do think elements of that are true. I I think you did get some moody George Pickkins against the Lions. You one of the plays where he loo it looked like he was going slow and he just didn’t track the ball properly. That’s what was a big impact there. I do dispute this claim that he was the big story. No, it’s the defense being bad again. Like that’s that’s a much bigger story as far as I’m concerned. And I do give Pickin some credit for speaking postgame. I kind of thought he wasn’t going to he would decline comment after a bad game and I wouldn’t have been surprised. He did speak postgame, asked about Sherman’s comments. He says, “Definitely for myself personally, you can’t disappear. As a reporter, whatever his job is, and he played ball, he cast type of defense that they played. They were sitting on the slant. I still caught a contested slant. They said it was PI on me. Caught a slant later in the game to the slant just didn’t go our way. Whether it was the call or the play, a lot of stuff just didn’t go our way.” Now, my theory is that George Pickkins did not actually know what had been said by Richard Sherman. He was just responding to the question because on Friday and like was up for like maybe five minutes before it got deleted. Uh Richard Sherman posted this on Instagram very long uh response to with some vulgar language clapping back at Richard Surman and didn’t like that it NFL players typically get really mad. They don’t care if I say They care if like other players that were former players say That’s what bothers them. And Pickkins was very upset about it and then said Twitter eat this up. and then deleted it like five minutes later. Yeah, you have some uh some creeks in in the armor, so to speak, for for pickings. Thought the Lions had a good game plan. I I’m waiting on a Sluggo. I’ve waited like 20 years for a Sluggo that consistently from this Cowboys organization. The offense still scored 30. Like even in a bad Pickins game, the offense did their job. But it is again worth acknowledging he didn’t have his best stuff. Dak said something very similar cuz I’m sure George say this wasn’t his best game. when you’re playing the way he’s been playing, when the type of player that he is, you know, I’ll be the first to say it’s hard to do that week in and week out. But I think George can, I know George believes he can. I think he would just say that this game wasn’t up to his standard. I know he’ll own it and I know he’ll be better. Look, I think Dak is very much spot on here with with those comments. Well, it wasn’t a good game from Pickkins. Doesn’t mean we should completely write him off. I do think in that game and even some of the behind the scenes stuff, we’ve seen some of the Steelers picking comments, but this idea of, well, this is why you can’t pay him. This is this is the exact same guy. He has been different this year. It has mostly been good. It hasn’t been perfect, but it has mostly been a a positive outcome, almost entirely a positive outcome for the Cowboys and George Pickkins. So, with that in mind, first question of the day for you guys in the audience. Grade George Pickkins with the Dallas Cowboys. A, B, C, D, or F? Let me know in the comments section of today’s show. Now, that stuff all happened last night or into Thursday and Friday night. This stuff happened before the game. ESPN, led by Todd Archer and Jeremy Fer, some good in-depth reporting on the entire picking saga with the Steelers and how it’s gone with the Cowboys. One Steelers source to ESPN said, “He is a child. The playmaking is breathtaking. You can’t take that away from him. He just really struggled with the maturity part in Pittsburgh. You didn’t know what you were going to get day to day.” Among the issues in in Pittsburgh, this is per ESPN and stuff that has been reported many a time before. Being late to meetings was always an issue. He was never on time. He was late for the Christmas game uh last year, I believe, as well. The Cowboys consulted with the Steelers, a couple different sources that they have of like, okay, about Pickkins. Does this fit? Does this work? The takeaway was a strong quarterback presence would help him. And that teammates, by the way, did love him as well. That that there were positives about Pickkins and the Steelers. It was just time for a divorce. I think some of like the maturity stuff you saw with the Instagram post. That’s what that is. A player source, so I assume a player on the Steelers to ESPN said that’s where a lot of the issues from Pittsburgh stem from. He didn’t have stability at quarterback. A non-player source in Pittsburgh says the stuff he couldn’t control, he had a hard time dealing with. And a quarterback’s play is not in his control. I think the QB issues in Pittsburgh played a part in his frustrations. It all makes sense. I mean, they had bad quarterback play in Pittsburgh. They still have not great quarterback play in Pittsburgh right now. And even like the penalty stuff, like that’s not really in his control. When the Lions are kind of doubling and bracketing him, it’s not really in his control. And you can start to see the frustrations kind of sneak through. A lot more to come, but today’s show is made possible by prize picks. It is the holiday season, the best time of the year for sports, bowl games, basketball matchups, playoff pushes. It’s all happening at once. And while you and I are out here making decisions every day what gifts to buy, what to eat, which game to watch, there’s one place where it feels good to be right, and that is prize picks. They now have early payouts. If your lineup gets off to a hot start, you may have the option to cash out those innings before the game even finishes. Non Cowboys slate here on Sunday. James Cook, more than rushing yards against a bad Bengals run defense, defense in general. Joe Burrow more than passing yards there as well. And Amecha Ibuka more than receiving yards against a shaky Saints defense. I love how straightforward Prize picks is. You don’t have to spend a lot of time figuring out the payouts. It’s simple and easy with their payout multipliers. Download the prize picks app today. Use code CLNS to get 50 bucks in lineups after you play your first $5 lineup. That’s code CLNS to get $50 in lineups after you play your first $5 lineup. prize picks. It’s good to be right. Kind of tying in the the quarterback stuff. ESPN’s reporting makes it kind of clear that like a big reason of why Pickkins a is having his best year ever on the field, but also has been better off the field is the presence of Dak Prescott. Here’s what a Cowboy source told ESPN that a Cowboy source cited Prescott’s leadership as a key for pickings who respects Dak. Dak has a unique way of knowing when to keep a guy accountable and knowing when to pull off. So when Dax speaks, George will listen. I will say that doesn’t mean it has all been smooth sailing. There was obviously the initial uh Raiders sit the first drive stuff there. There’s been some other behind the scenes issues that ESPN mentioned as well. We will get into that here in just a little bit. Hasn’t just quite been all sunshineers, but overall it’s certainly been good for the Cowboys. We will have daily videos for you right here on the Cowboys Report. So, if you haven’t already, now is a great time to make sure you are subscribed. We have the number one most subscribed Cowboys YouTube channel. Hit that sub button if you haven’t already. YouTube.com/cowboys TV. A lot of this per ESPN that he has had issues again with being on time. Timeliness is just not a good thing for him. He has been fined multiple times. Cowboys haven’t made a huge deal out of the fines. I think they’ve essentially treated it as like a, hey, this happened. This is the punishment. Has to be this way. You know, he got benched for the first drive against the Raiders. So did Sudy Lamb. Cowboys don’t seem to be overly worried on that front, but uh it is it is certainly worth mentioning overall uh in just in terms of how things play out. Cowboys sourced to ESPN on Pickins said that he might miss a team bus or be late on occasion, but the Cowboys can live with that. He’s been a hard worker and accountable and that has been the important part. I think all of that is is noteworthy of yeah, stuff does happen and there’s a balance. There’s a balance you have to deal with on that front. Of note, Dak Prescott had a similar comment that I think is worth acknowledging as well here about some of the the discipline part. Uh he said, quote, “He’s a one-of-a-kind guy, special individual, elite, has a great feel for the game, loves the game, plays the game like a kid.” When you watch him play, the energy, the celebrations, that’s contagious. But the discipline, there is a part of that that we’ve got all got to tighten up. And GP knows that. Obviously responded to it, responded to discipline by the way he came out, the intensity played with the effort that he had. This is about the Raiders game, by the way. But he’s a special individual. There’s a balance to it, though. Look, how he responds ma matters, especially against the the post Detroit game. You know, you saw CD Lamb respond almost perfectly after a rough showing against the Eagles. This is going to be part of the George Pickins experience. CD Lamb isn’t really a diva. He gets mad on the sidelines sometimes. That’s okay. You know, this isn’t like to diva in Lamb. There’s a little bit of to diva in George Pickins sometimes where like you’re going to have some of that stuff. You need to have in the end the right balance of extra. You need to have the right balance of like, you know, she’s a 10, she’s insane. Well, how insane. There does become a certain point where it’s too much. You saw it with Antonio Brown. Not saying pickings is Antonio Brown, but that type of stuff, you know, the coaches put with a lot of BS. Once the BS outweighs the onfield play, you’re done. And right now, the onfield play does not out does outweigh the BS for the Cowboys. And because of that, you make no mistake, the cost of a George Pickins deal has gone up this season. And a fairly notable clip, he’s been really good. He’s already passed a thousand yards on the season. He’s got 78 catches, eight touchdowns. All of these are career highs for George Pickkins. He’s having his best season ever. There’s no really arguing that with how good he has been. Would he work for every team? I’m not so sure. But what is the most that you would pay George Pickkins per year? Let me know in the comments section of today’s show. Most you would pay George Pickins per season. Let’s talk to cost here. ESPN mentioned Pickkins getting into the $30 million range. I think that is doable. Spojection. It’s a projection. It’s a model. Sometimes they’re way off. Is worth mentioning. Uh they got it up to a 4-year $125 million deal. Uh you know the 31.25 $25 million threshold, which I think is reasonable. The franchise tag is going to cost around $28 million. And because of the franchise tag cost and the the money the Cowboys have available, the help he has given as a legitimate stud wide receiver, Pin is not going to hit the open market. Cowboys source ESPN on George Pickkins. He ain’t leaving. They will tag him at minimum. Don’t do the whole weird drag it out nonsense stuff, but Pickkins is not going to hit the open market.

Richard Sherman on George Pickens: “The big story here is George Pickens. George Pickens, throughout the game, especially late in the game, looked uninterested. Uninterested in playing football. And that’s what you can’t have. If you’re going to be a superstar, if you want to be the best receiver in the NFL, you can’t ever be disengaged. It doesn’t matter if the game is going your way or not going your way, you can’t just disappear in these games or else you’re not going to have an impact.”
ESPN had some in-depth reporting on George Pickens with the Steelers and with the Cowboys. Reportedly, being late to meetings was a constant issue in Pittsburgh. But the Cowboys consulted with Steelers sources about Pickens and a strong QB presence would help him. That has been the case so far with Dak Prescott. However, Pickens has reportedly had issues (again) with being on time. ESPN reports Pickens has been fined multiple times but the Cowboys don’t seem overly worried or upset.

Do you want to keep George Pickens? Type ‘Y’ for Yes, ‘N’ for No
How high would the comp pick be if we let him walk? Get our 3 back? It wasn't just a bad game. It was lack of effort. Can we really trust him with a huge cap hit?? Let him play on the tag..and see if he finally matures. George Pickens can be as great as he wants to be. It is up to him. I hope he becomes a life long Cowboy. But I wouldn't commit long term yet. Let him earn it.
Yes!
Y
Yes
A+
Yes
Sherman has no platform as he sucks as a commentator only to knock on players
Pickens gonna force his way out when they try and tag him, book it!
A
Keep boths WR
Y!!!
While I do think this has been overblown, its because he has history. Sherman was absolutely right, and Pickens not recognizing criticism from an elite Hall of Fame bound CB that has seen some of the best WR to ever play the game, well thats a bit childish. Should the Cowboys lock him up, certainly. That contract though will almost certainly have some incentives to fix his lateness issues. I think having one of the best QBs in the game is going to be a key to keeping him engaged every week. The thing that is concerning is that young players see him being late or taking games off and think that is okay. He's a great WR talent wise, you never saw the greats loafing even when the team was having a bad day. Steve Smith was a great example of a guy that gave it 100%, 100% of the time, even when his QB wasnt good or the team was terrible.
I dont care of your energy bill dropped after buying a 50 dollar device and I could care less about State Farm or All State insurance.
As much as it takes
Ceedee hasn't "shown up" for games and we don't have these kind of discussions so why when GP has an off day or is covered like syrup on a pancake, why are we all of a sudden concerned? Pickens is a Pro but at the same time he's human… he'll be ok. Watch the next game. He's gonna ball out!!!!
Yep, I agree, if you want to get top money you have to show up and give max effort. Time will tell how he responds !!!
Without Pickens Dallas has 3 wins this year….. tops.
I love how one game somehow just overruled the other 11-12 games Pickens had we also knew who Pickens was and yall crying over one game also Sherman got a point and Pickens could have had a better attitude but let’s be real Sherman talks more shii then anything he’s biased he’ll call out Pickens attitude but won’t call out bad defensive play good portion of the time former players suck as Football analysts also some of yall in this fan base cry to much then wanna ruin the team bc one player had a bad game yall need shut up some of yall don’t know how bad the characters in the locker room were in the 90s
Y, the whole team besides Aubrey (pay the man already) & Ceedee played crappy
Hell yes keep him and what idiots are talking about trading ceedee? Pickens has been a A+ with the cowboys.
y
Why are we not talking about Furguson? In my eyes he was the reason why we lost. He continues to drop pass in critical times. Fumbles his lack of blocking..Schoonmaker should have left with his Mich voy.. why Brevyn is not in their always in the red zone and as TE 1B cuz Ferguson touchdowns is only positive thing though important every other problem out weighs…GP3 is not the same as Pitt all media trying to start poop.. We have way too many Alpha on our squad. He good RESIGN…drop Steele Diggs Tolbert Sam Williams resign Clark Solomon more 5 man if 4 man wanna see BEST eze osa qwill Clark. Make it work

Y
Maybe Pittsburgh knew what they were doing
This is dumb that they’re even talking about this (not tom, the media). Don’t overthink this one. He’s been a top 2 receiver this year. This is the best this trade could have possibly gone. I was just hoping we would get 1k out of him to be a good trade. Dude has 1100 with 4 more games to go. I don’t wanna tag him, pay the man. Give a 4 year contract, 120 mil.
One bad game is not enough to make any real decisions. It is okay if he didn't "step up" as we all expected when CeeDee went out this one(BIG) game. But I still can't judge much by ONE game. I still love GP right here.
For me it was less about a bad performance/execution there and more about HOW he had the bad game= playing "disinterested" on several plays. CeeDeee had a bad game to drops not looking the ball into his hands but it was NOT due to lack of efforts or playing "disinterested".
If he does THAT 2 or 3 more times this years he is not worth keeping. The GP experience illustrated how much difference it is having a TRUE #2 or #1B! So even if we let GP go we will go get another one either in draft or free agent. Will we get another one talented as GP??? Never but if he becomes trouble it is best to get a player 80% of his talent but ZERO of the baggage. But we MUST get one to compete for a SB.
Pickens grade F-

Keep Pickens, grade A. Maybe WR1 money, maybe not.

George gets an A- for my grade!!! He's an amazing player!

Pickens have one bad game and everyone jumps on him. What happens when Josh Allen sucks and has a bad game which does happens a few games a year. This story is overrated.
He’s paid a lot, so missing meetings is not excusable going to meetings is part of the job, so just go, and stop with the taunting personal foul penalties, otherwise love the guy
Every Dog has their day & Thursday might just have been his. I was once there in bowling I just wasn't feeling it. However I let my teammates know I wasn't feeling it & they understood. But I brought what I had the next week. But we have to keep Pickens he also f.s.t.o.w when Lamb went out & he didn't know why for sure.
He’s in a contract year. He’s trying more than not because he wants the big payday. Take a long look at why Pitt let him go.
Letting GP go would be foolish when you know what he is capable of!! Look at Mingo and Marvin Harrison Jr – they don’t all “work out!”
There is a difference between having a bad game & not running routes or trying to finish plays. The latter says more about paying him tens of millions & seeing what George you get.
