Doc Rivers Postgame Press Conference | 12.05.25

Do you have an update on AJ or how how bad that is? Uh, don’t know how bad it is. It’s a shoulder. Um, which isn’t great. Um, we’ll do an MRI tomorrow and we’ll find out. He’s going to come with us. Uh, we’re going to do the MRI in Detroit. Um, you know, it it got to nine obviously late after being down 26, but it it Yeah, we got to nine with a fast break, you know. Um, and you know, listen, I don’t know if we win the game or not, but they got that was a foul. Um, it’s a foul on the push in the back and a foul on the arm. You know, if you make that and you get to seven, uh, with with six minutes left, you got a game. Uh, but it’s the way we started the game. Uh, and our turnovers. Those are the two things to me, the way we started defensively. Um, and then just our, um, our turnovers. And in the first half our fouls, you know, our second half defense, 24 points and 23 points, you know, um, and that’s because we just played harder, more physical, and we played defense without fouling, but we still had bad turnovers in that half. And, you know, I would say eight of their points in the second half came off of our bad turnovers, which we got to take care of the ball. Uh, we got to play defense without fouling. Um, and we just got to be I didn’t I thought they were the way more physical team to start the game. Um, did it feel a little bit like Kevin and Ryan, lack of better phrase, like tried to press the issue offensive? You know, it’s it was disappointing, too, because uh not on their I mean, let me make this point. They’re trying to do what they’re trying to do to win. So, none of this is selfish. Um, but what I said at halftime, everybody on the team is trying to win the game for us instead of what we worked on all day in practice is do it together, move the ball in the second half in stretches when we did that. Uh, when we got guys rolling, guys setting picks, getting to the second action, we scored almost every time. Um, but you can see like early on our guards are trying to they were trying to force the action and I that’s easy to guard it. It really is. And so, you know, that’s that’s a lesson. Uh I think you guys started what, like 14 to 13. You have a lead. Uh some it felt like paint touches into threes. Did you feel like it at least started? Yeah, I thought we started offensively the right way. We got a bunch of rolls to the basket, Jericho. Uh and and which is a paint touch, the same thing. And our guards were going downhill. Uh and that made them pull in and we sprayed it out and we got shots. and then they made a couple threes and it went away. Then we started forcing it. Um, you know, it was almost like we pushed the panic button, you know, instead of just trusting uh our stuff on both ends. And I thought tonight was the first time in a while that we didn’t do that. Um, Bobby, it feels like every couple games now it’s just been banging threes and kind of making shots and bringing some energy. What did you see from Bobby tonight? That’s what he’s doing. you know, um, one of the things we we still got to get him to do is rebound more, and he’s starting to do that, you know, not tonight, but overall, you can see it. Um, he’s playing with way more energy than he’s played all year, you know, and you can see that, and that’s important for us. All right. Um, you know, I thought Miles had tons of energy tonight as well. So, um, I just thought the ball didn’t move the way the ball should move offensively and I thought that hurt us. And I I will say I’d say in the first quarter when they have 33 points, taking the ball out out of bounds every time uh is not a good recipe for a good offense. Uh I think Miles plays one minute in the fourth quarter. Uh just kind of what went into the Yeah, just Bobby was playing well. Uh we wanted a roller. Um you know, we could have easily played Bobby and Miles uh together, which we’ll do at times. you know, um we just felt like we needed one roller to create shots and Bobby was playing well. You limited Max, I think his lowest point total of the season, but their bench really came up big against you. Kind of a matter of choosing your poison or what was Yeah, I thought we we we overreacted to Maxi um in the first quarter and that got everyone going and that’s where he’s really just matured as a player. Um he saw that and he just kept getting off the ball and they have shooters. They have guys that can make shots and and they made shots. You can see Maxi, he was in no he was not pressing at all. He saw all the attention and he just kept spraying the ball out. Uh going back to what you were saying earlier about you felt like guys were trying to win the game for you. How much is that a product of, you know, Giannis being out and Oh, it’s probably all of it. You know, um you know, our guards are competitive. They know, you know, we’re on this little roller coaster. Win one, lose one, win one, lose one right now. And without Giannis, every game, our margins are very small. Very small. You know, losing AJ Green, um, hurt you. We We can’t sustain much more, especially with guys that make shots, but it is what it is. You still got to figure out a way of winning games. Uh, I didn’t see Giannis on the bench at all tonight. Is he just doing rehab? Yeah. Yeah. And then will he travel with you guys at all? not tomorrow, but he will travel most of the time. Um, you know, our thing is, especially because this just happened, you know, in the blood flow and all the flights and all that stuff. Um, keep them home after tomorrow, we have a 4-day break. Uh, we’re going to take two days off. Uh, I think they need it, uh, through this stretch and then we have two great days of practice, uh, which I’m looking forward to.

  3. In the first half they would have lost to a high school team. I get being in a zone and the ball moves and someone being left open. I don't get when as soon as a team advances the ball past half court the defense is set, and there's guys open at the three point line. How can you even evaluate the game, when they spot the other team 20 points on open 3 point looks? So disappointing down the stretch when they're playing good defense, getting stops, rebounds, forcing TOs, and then they 💩 the bed on offense. I haven't lost belief in this team, but every game there's a few minute lapse in execution that has us playing from behind.

  4. Doc…. they don't need all this rest you keep prescribing. They do not. They need practice to be held, do walk throughs, watch film, run drills etc. I'm so tired of the Rivers "Rest and Relax" culture.

  6. Doc im sorry, but take accountability you need to tell your players to move but also you need to know who to put in and out. Harris is absolutely trash, trent jr hasnt really been there and yet you still put them in and leave people like Cole Anthony who can get the floor open on the bench.

  9. Set double high screen for kpj was good, tell him to be more often attacking the paint .. he is 90+% freethrow shooter, last season we had dame, now we have kpj .. just make rollins bring the ball up so we dont make stupid tournovers like in the firsthalf

  23. What will it take for this franchise to move on from this guy? The Bucks have been bad every since he took over as HC and despite the record, the head-scratching rotations and lineups, the incapability to fix/improve the offensive rebounding and defense along with his inability to recognize what works and what doesn’t, he remains at the position, sitting confidently and cutting every reporter off mid sentence to say a bunch of nothing. He seems like a great guy but this group needs a new coach.

  26. Doc if you played the whole game full pressure like you did from the End of the 2nd quarter you could have win the game, cause from when KPJ, Rolins, Kuz put pressure on them it was so close.

    Kuz is your best Defender put him to lock the best players , like he did so many many times, KPJ will get those steals aswell if you defend agressively without fouling, the first quarter up to the end of the 2nd they could shoot 3s like in practice mode, that s what killed you guys, the moment you put pressure on their guards full court and covered the perimeters fasters it became so close.

    Dont give up you guys have something there, just keep the ball moving and find Myles inside, when Myles is launched inside he is very efficient not so much when he receive the ball with no movement, gotta work on those.

  29. doc coaching just isn't for you, aint never taking accountability like how u gonna say all this in a press conference but not take action and fix the problems you point out??? you're clearly clueless and never know who to put in at the right point in the game, you can't be disappointed after a loss when your lazy ass is unable to realise when something is going wrong and majority of our losses come from your lack of communication and understanding of a situation.. as devastating as it is that giannis is likely to leave us, i can see why.

  31. Put on Pete Nance, he can play and we need another Big beside Sims specially out of the bench for the 2nd Unit so you always have a real Big at all Times that can score and Rebound
