All the talk about how there’s no market for Giannis but somehow Bane went for a million picks a couple months ago

The bar for a trade is the Bane package plus a good young player

“Mikal and Bane go for a billion picks in B2B years but sorry we can’t offer anything more than kitty towns and some useless swaps”
I think picks tend to make valuing trade a bit harder. You’re gambling on how good or shit the teams going to be in next few years.
Like for example any team would value a Bucks picks post Giannis extremely highly, one pick at 1-3 range is worth multiple low first round picks.
I think people will have to look at the cap and contract situation of every major player on a team to determine what the picks are actually worth.
The issue isn’t the picks. It’s the players involved in a trade. There are plenty of teams that can throw 5+ picks at the bucks. We aren’t trading Giannis for 5 picks and filler though. It has to be 5 picks and a current all star/top 4 pick rookie.
Like the trade would have to be 10+ picks of value because for example, it would be Desmond bane + 5 picks.
IMO The comp is the KD trade where he specifically requested the suns – two promising young guys plus 4 picks
Except Giannis is better and younger than KD so it should be around KAT (an all star that could be moved again for value) a promising young guy (McBride) plus 4 picks equivalent which could be Mikal plus whatever picks they have left
Someone could also reference the Luka trade.
Neither is an accurate representation of proper trade value
It’s a little unique because Anthony and KCP were such bad money that the magic probably paid 1.5 first to dump those deals. And then another 2.5 to “get” Bane.
If Bucks trade Giannis we need to become “the bank” for team to deposit their bad contracts in exchange for picks for a little bit.
In both of those situations, you have to ask yourself who is the desperate team in the exchange. In both of them, it was the Magic and the Knicks who were trying to convince the other team to trade one of their best players that was a main contributor in helping them win games. I think a similar thing can happen with Giannis, depending on the team. For example a team like Golden State, has a decent livelihood of being willing to trade all of their picks in order to have Giannis considering how desperate they are. However, a team like Spurs might be less inclined to include a bunch of pics because they want to save them for any future deals that they could make in order to add other pieces.
In this hypothetical situation, it all depends on who the tango partners are. I think at a bare minimum, in a hypothetical trade situation, the needs for the Bucks are closer to situations like the Nets and the Rockets were in a couple of years ago during their individual James Harden situations. Looking to see how they both built out of it, the mistakes and the successes, is going to be crucial when exploring options.
Giannis would have monster demand under normal circumstances. But a trade request and trading him to specific teams drastically tank that value.
If anything, that says there is no real market for Giannis. Bane went for basically the maximum allowable trade. It’s impossible to get adequate value for Giannis
The market for Giannis is awkward. But there.
Most contenders either dont need him or dont have the assets to trade for him (or are no longer contenders due to injury).
That hurts bidding a good bit.
So it comes down to mediocre playoff teams who are weighing if the cost.is.worth the risk.
Giannis is worth 3+ Banes. My opinon Giannis has more value then the Knicks starting 5. Media is just stupid. A Giannis trade should be the biggest trade in NBA history.
A starting point would be 2 of the top youngest studs in the NBA + 5 first round picks. And that is the Bucks selling pennys to the dollar.
For me as a Bucks fan. I just want the Bucks to own thier own picks and get one young star. I don’t need a championship roster. I just want to watch a young fun team and build from there. I also want to see a new GM and coach.
The talk sounds like owners got together to set a maximum bid for a player which I thought was illegal. But we’re a small market team so fuck us, right?
They want to acquire Giannis for Temu Giannis prices.
