Biggest surprises:

Maxey legitimately looking like a top 10 player. He always had the work ethic, but I didn't foresee such a huge jump in his shot creation

Everybody stepping up with all the injuries. VJ, Kelly, Grimes, Drummond, Bona, Barlow, Watford, Walker all have had memorable games in wins already

PG hasn't played much, but he's looked very solid when he's played

Expectations is definitely at least playoffs. We don't have the firepower or injury luck to win 3 straight playoff series, but honestly could see us having a big surprise series win r1

  1. Biggest surprise is that we have TOO much depth. Honestly not sure how we’re going to give everyone minutes if we ever get fully healthy

  2. Biggest surprise:

Maxey, he has taken a massive leap and we are seeing Joel levels of “what is this team doing” when he is not on the floor.

Drum is the second biggest surprise. I was very down on drum after last year. He has completely restored his reputation.

    Expectations:

I want to avoid the play in. Top 6 and then whatever happens happens. Also I want to get to playoffs as healthy as possible.

I also want to keep developing the young guys. VJ, McCain, Edwards, Bona, Barlow, and Walker all need runs. There is a world where we develop a very solid foundation for this team for the next 5 years.

  3. I love the team, but have realistic postseason expectations for them.

First time in a while we have a decent front court rotation and it shows.

Crazy how quick the season goes. It feels like just yesterday I spent $130 on NBA Pass.

  4. Surprise: ability to come back and win games that we would just quit on last year. And doing it with 2-3 starters consistently sitting or missing time. Barlow, VJ, Maxey have been great. Grimes better than expected, and I am not high on him as a lead ball handler.

Expectations: 6-8 seed and playoffs. Maybe better if Morey gets creative at the trade deadline.

  5. Biggest surprise for me is Barlow i think. I remember watching him in summer league the other year and thinking he was not gonna be good at all, and he actually looks like a legit starting power forward.

Expectations, i still legitimately think there is a shot with this team. I don’t think there is really a single team in the east I don’t think we can beat (even though it would be tough), and I just am hopeful the team starts firing on all cylinders and gets consistent (doesn’t have to be fully healthy, just consistent) rotations

  6. If you told me they’d be 13-9 and Embiid and PG are healthy enough to be playing i would have taken that 10/10 times.

Maxey continues to improve every year. I know I’m a homer but if he can now figure out how to incorporate his other teammates and learn to distribute and pass, he could be a true MVP candidate. I think that’s the only part of his game that would keep him back from being a true MVP. However, even if he never develops that he’s still an All Star and in contention with being highest scorer.

Not a big fan in Bona, and Drummond has looked pretty great this year for the most part. Obviously there’s been some bad games from Drummond but his ability to get those rebounds has been so valuable for us. Although I’m not a big believer in Bona he’s rebounding had looked better since he came back from injury.

Barlow and Walker have been better than any expectations I’ve had for them.

Watford im still unsure. That triple double game hopefully wasn’t just an anomaly, but him being out right now definetly doesn’t help with his development and chemistry with the team

3J Edgecome looks promising and am still excited than we have him. It’s easy to look at the other picks and wonder wha they would have looked like on this team but I think VJ gives us a more complete player than any other the other ones we could have had. His offense has been fine and he’s a hustlers on defense and will only continue to improve

Embiid. I’m sure this is a tough year for him, but probably easier than last year. I hope he can figure out a way to gel with this guys on his limited play. The defense has taken a step back and the offense has too but that doesn’t mean he still can’t be useful.

PG might be our best floor general. I love Maxey and our guards but PG just knows where guys should be and knows the right passes to make. His shot has looked smooth and on defense he’s always in the right place as well. My only fear is that the other players just pass him the ball and watch. PG is best when there’s a lot of actions and everyone is moving and cutting

Not gonna go through every player but I think McCain has looked ok. A little disappointed but am hopeful he reruns to form. I’m just not convinced he’s gonna get the room are playing time he needs on this team to truly shine.

I think we could use another backup C and wouldn’t be upset if we cut Broome

  7. For me even on top of the return on investment in Barlow/Walker and that Maxey found another gear and that PG may still have one more in him, it’s Edgecombe’s clutch gene. Really helpful to have that pick pan out.

  8. Biggest surprise is Barlow for me. He was a complete afterthought over the summer and has turned into a key piece.

Followed closely by Drummond adding an actual corner three to his arsenal.

Expectations are 45+ wins, 6-7th seed, Maxey All NBA.

  9. – Shocked how much Joel’s awareness of other defenders on the court has declined, it’s sad to see his skills fading.
    – I knew our lineups were going to be guard-centric, but didn’t expect our rebounding to THIS bad.
    – Drum’s 3-point shooting, are you serious?
    – Didn’t expect Oubre’s absence was going to be as impactful as I think it’s been.
    – Number one surprise is VJ.

  10. No surprises. Going exactly how I thought it would, young and spunky winning games. We can go far at our best with our young core. Expected it to be fun along the way and here we are

  11. in those 9 losses were HELLA winnable games. aint like were getting blown out all the time. i like what i see w this squad, all things considered

  12. if we can win enough to make the playoffs with embiid playing 20-25 minutes a game without having to be to physical and be able to fully heal and then hopefully come playoff time he can be the dominating player that he is woh everyone else healthy too would be sweet.

  13. The depth is a surprise. 4 guards to rotate. 6 forwards when healthy. 3 centers to share minutes.

They have the pieces to acquire another veteran I hope.

  14. when healthy, I have been impressed with PG… he seems very smooth and can get his shot off whenever he wants…

I am a little surprised by how much Maxey has continued to improve

hearing about him working with Drew Hanlon

So thankful that he got his big contract and he still is hungry to improve

  15. The fact they’re just fun to watch most nights. We all know a deep playoff run is not in the cards which I don’t care about. I just wanna watch my favorite team and players have fun and win sometimes which is exactly the case this year.

  16. Biggest surprise is Maxey superstar leap. The second one is having a solid PF rotation because of two 2 way players.

  17. Biggest surprise to me is Grimes, with the contract situation I figured we’d be incentivized to keep him as a 10th man at best, but he’s been a Swiss Army knife with extra scoring punch

  18. Biggest surprise is that the Celtics have a better record than we do. Jesus Christ. I think that’s a Mazzula vs Nurse observation more than anything else.

  19. 1) Maxey’s leap isn’t surprising to me, but it is the most exciting thing. To me, his defense has been more impressive. Dude’s legit looking like Marcus Smart out there on the defensive end and it’s a total game changer. Being a two-way superstar, he’s on that all-NBA path like I’ve always known him to be.

    2) The most surprising thing has got to indeed be Dominic Barlow. Dude is modern day Reggie Evans and I’m here for it. Boundless energy, makes all the winning plays. He’s become one of my favorite 76ers.

    3) VJ in the Clutch. The dude’s probably still top-10 in clutch minutes this year and for a rookie that is insane.

  20. Biggest surprise is that Maxey became a superstar. Expectations are that they make the playoffs, Embiid plays more but isn’t allowed to jump. They get knocked out in the first or second round, sadly.

  21. Maxey playing at an MVP is a welcome surprise. We all knew he was awesome, but that’s a hell of a jump.

I just hope he’s finally getting national attention to the point that he’s talked about like a legit star — and can finally get the fucking calls he deserves.

I think if we can keep this slightly above .500 level until March and then have PG and Embiid come back with more play time going into the playoffs. I think we have a real chance to make a run in the East. Because the East isn’t that great right now. We are 1 game off of 3rd place with this record at the moment. I think Detroit will separate from the pack and then the rest of the East will all be bunched up 2-8 with just a few games.

  22. They won last night while getting 13 3s off the bench last night. Thats never happened in this history of the sixers…

  23. Biggest surprise is definitely Barlow. He really stepped up. Secondly, how well VJ and Maxey work together. They have really good chemistry and it feels like they might become invisible in the coming years. Overall, our young core is giving us hope

Expectations: to make the playoffs. Hopefully get top6 seed but realistically aiming for 6-8

  24. We were 2-14 or something last year so this season has been pleasant even with some frustrating blown leads/Embiid injury nonsense

  25. Drummond bouncing back from looking completely washed was nice to see

The team not falling below 500 is surprising too considering how awful last season went, hope they have a December as good or better than last seasons

  26. Biggest issue is having consistency in the health of the roster but id rather have problem now instead of later in the year. Knock on wood
