Visiting Pirates fan here!
During the offseason, I'm creating a graph like this for every MLB team. It tracks each franchise's cumulative record relative to .500 (equal wins and losses) throughout their entire history.
The annotations show the franchise's all-time peak, lowest point, and most recent time at exactly .500.
The complete album can be seen here. I also made the NFL and NHL charts (before the current season).

The 1990s-2005 are just downright insane to consider in the grand scheme of things
The Illitch effect
Interested to see other teams- 19000 games and barely .500
The Ilitches really fucked the team outside of the few years Mike decided he really wanted to win.

I like this graph a lot more than when someone did it for the lions
Now I have an answer to my therapist asking why I haven’t been truly happy since the late 80’s/early 90’s
95-05 was some dark ass days.
I must be misunderstanding the graph, because the Tigers were historically *BAD* in the late 90’s/early 00’s… but to me it appears as if they haven’t been under .500 since the early 1900’s.
Can someone please explain it to me as if they’re explaining it to a 7-yr-old?
So since ‘84 they’re roughly 350 games under .500?
Proof the Illitch family ran this team into the ground.
