OILERS TODAY | Pre-Game vs WPG 12.06.25

[Music] It’s an all Canadian matchup here on Hockey Night in Canada. The Edmonton Oilers host the Winnipeg Jets for the first time this season after a Thursday night victory that saw goals of plenty here in Edmonton. Another opportunity coming into the net score. 62 Edmonton. And the Oilers run the Kraken right out of the building. Well, I mean, you got to have everything kind of going the right way and and that’s what you build towards, right? I think um we want to be able to play a full 60 on both sides of the of the puck and the two work hand in hand. When when you’re playing really well offensively, it means you’re spend less time in the Dzone and when you’re defending really well, you’re spending more time in the Ozone. So, what comes first? Um you know, it’s really important that you you do both and that’s when you get good results. Yeah, I think so. It was good energy. Uh nice to see guys fill in the net always and and just all around it was a fun game for everyone, I think. So, um yeah, I think we’ve liked the way we we’ve been going the last few weeks and uh like I say, just kind of building momentum and the energy throughout games and and feeling good about ourselves again and getting the confidence back. You know, it was nice to see our guys get rewarded because I think overall we’ve been playing pretty well defensively. our compete, our attention to detail has been better and um you know and as good as that is sometimes you play a really good game and you just can’t score and I thought that’s what happened against the Minnesota game where you know their goalie played really well or we just didn’t bear down and finish opportunities. Um but we got to be careful that we can’t be expecting to score five, six, seven, eight, nine goals to win hockey games. and um you know it’s usually uh you know three should be enough to score goal or win a hockey game and that’s kind of the mentality is if we can keep them the other team to two we should be able to win. So um my coach’s perspective we’re always thinking more of the defense and the players perspective they’re thinking more offense. So you got to have a balance. Based on this morning’s skate, the Oilers will elect to go with the same lineup we saw against the Kraken, but David Tamashek comes back in as Connor Clattenberg wasn’t on the ice this morning and won’t play tonight. It’s the same blue line pairings and then Steuart Skinner will be back in the crease. In his last two games, he’s only allowed one goal, making 49 of 50 saves for a 980 save percentage. Now, the Jets are two-6 in their last eight games, but one of those two wins came just last night in Winnipeg when they beat the Buffalo Sabres. And now step into the second half of a backtoback for Oilers TV. I’m Paige Martin.

The Edmonton Oilers host the Winnipeg Jets on Hockey Night in Canada as David Tomasek steps back into the lineup and Stuart Skinner gets the start in net.
