Just Rename the Minnesota Wild to the Jesper Wall-stedts

I don’t think Esper Walstead’s ever going to let in a goal ever again. I mean, he’s got four four shut outs in his last six games. Well, that’s ridiculous. He has just been abs on an absolute absolute rip. I I I watched him quite a bit last year because I couldn’t believe my eyeballs and I couldn’t believe what was happening with just how awful he looked last year. I know people have been saying like, “Oh, Iowa wasn’t very good last year either.” yada yada yada. But I don’t know, man. If I I if you go and actually watch him perform as a goalender last year, it did not look like he was one of the best goalenders in the world at all last year. But this year, well, let’s just say he’s regressing. I mean, in that span, let’s see, since November 1st, which is when he kind of started going on a rip here, he’s given up seven goals, and that is in seven games. That is amazing. And his team has scored 20 goals in that period. So, they’ve got a goal differential of 20 to seven over the course of seven games. That’s an average of below three goals a gameact by the way. So somehow Minnesota has pulled it off and mixed in there. How many shots has he faced? He’s only faced less than 30 shots twice in those in that in those seven and none of them were fewer than 25 shots in a game. So he’s getting just drilled into the ground and like he put up a 39 save performance the other night against Colorado and they won in the shootout. I hope it’s sustainable because not only does it make me look smart for believing in Hey, but you jumped off the train this year. Well, yes, I did the train. I I look, I’m not unhappy about it. Uh, I’ll say that. But last year was rough and uh hopefully I hope you put him in the maybe category. Come on. Oh, yeah. Look at this. Look at this dummy over here putting him in the may category and now he’s going nuts. This is why goalies are voodoo. It’s because we cannot judge how confidence is affecting a goalender and what their mental state of mind is because that is really what it comes down to when playing the position. How confident are you that you’re going to save the next shot? [Music]

  1. It sounded like he had some nagging injuries last year. And Iowa's last good team was the Covid year when they had Kahkonen playing well down their and they had I think 2 of the league's top scorers (Anas and Mayhew). I think the only time they made the playoffs since was when Rossi was down there most of the year.
