FULL GAME: Tarik Skubal strikes out 13 in Maddux for first complete game! πŸ”₯ (Guardians vs. Tigers)

I’m all fired up. Touch of all time. Spencer Torlson. He hammered it. A walk off solo blast for Kyle Manardo. catch dives and made the catch. Beautiful downtown Detroit. You couldn’t draw this day up any nicer. Welcome to the MLB Sunday leadoff on the Roku channel. Tigers and Guardians wrapping up a 4game set in downtown Detroit along with former Indians Guardians great Rick Manning. I’m Dan Dickerson. Rick, this is going to bring back some memories of the ALDS game five. You never like to get swept in a series, especially a four game series. The Tigers, if this isn’t must win, is as close as it gets to regular season. But with Scuba on the mountain, you’re going to have a little bit of a game five feel. Well, you’ve got the right guy on the mound. This guy looking forward to watching him pitch this year. He’s been off to an outstanding start, one of the best in the game. Former Sai Young award winner, matched up against Logan Allen, another left-hander. Uh, I’ll tell you what, you better be aggressive if you’re the offense for the Indians. Look for something early and hope you can put it in play. Guardians end of a long road trip. They want to finish on a high note as well after a slow start. No doubt about it. Yes, they do. I mean, the Guardians lost four straight. They salvage their road trip coming into here and then they go home for a while. Tigers have TK Scoo on the mound. Logan Allen on the other side. contrast in styles. They’ve both been very good. First pitch coming up. Welcome back to Kame Park on Hell Martinez will hit lead off today for the Guardians as Stephen Quan gets the day off and you get to do that with TK Scoo on the mound. You didn’t play in ALDS, but you were here. What did you learn about facing him or seeing him last season? I mean in playoff you got to face a lot of good pitcher, you know, he’s a really good one. Like he attack, he command his pitches. So you got to be ready to go from the first pitch. Anel, this division is so close. What has this world trip meant to you guys in the first three wins here so far? I mean, like every single game, it’s a lot. You know, we go out there, we compete, and we learn to win. Especially when we’re facing teams that are in the same division, we we put the extra. So, totally good. Have a great game. We appreciate you. Thank you. Um, Mother’s Day in the really appreciate my mom. Love you. Bye. Got to get that in, Dan. Let’s go. That’s perfect, Andre. Thank you. And thank you on hell. Let’s take a look at today’s forecast. I mean, come on. There’s not a cloud in the sky. Today’s weather report presented by Ricola. 58Β°. We’re getting into the low to mid60s this afternoon. Nice Sunday morning in downtown Detroit. This might be the second time we’ve seen sunshine on a road trip. I’ll tell you, this is beautiful today. It’s been a soggy, rainy road trip for the Guardians, and now they get to end it on a perfect spring day in downtown Detroit. Take a look at that lineup today. Martinez stronger from the right side as a switch hitter. The guy you always circle every single time, Jose Ramirez. And of course, Lane Thomas. We will revisit that moment in the cleanup spot today for a reason. Just off the injured list, the big hit off TKO in game five, the deciding game five in Cleveland when Terry Scooel had hardly given up a run in the postseason. Honardo’s another name to keep an eye on. He’s a lefty who’s hit four home runs and limited at bats off of lefties so far this year. Well, here’s your reigning Sai Young award winner in the American League. Boy, the ERA may be a little bit higher, but he’s arguably better in a lot of ways. Well, you you look at him at home, 3-0, 237 at home this year in his 10 starts. I mean, you got to look forward to watching this guy pitch every five days. He’s one of the best and I’m sure the Guardians will be up for it. It’s a quick turnaround here, but this guy has been as awesome as you can be. He’s got everything. A good fast ball, that change up, and a breaking ball to go with it with command. Switch hitter Martinez will lead it off. Nine for 21 so far from the right side. First pitch of the game is up and in. Gets the cold strike and we are underway here at Com Park in downtown Detroit. So glad to have you along for the wrap-up of this four-game series. Tigers trying to avoid a sweep in a four game series. Right back up and in. Foul tip to the glove of Dylan Dingler. This is what Terry Scooel always wants to do. Establish in so he can go away and change up away. Yeah, you’re absolutely right. And you know, he he proves he can throw strikes inside and once you prove it to the hitter, they have to be very conscious of that heater in The O2 low and away. Rick, this is a Cleveland offense that feels like we talked about the pitching hitting at stride, but some changes obviously in the lineup. No, Naylor, no Mennez, but this is a team that has some young developing bats, swinging a foul out of play. And Steven Vote felt like last night’s game with with the good at bats early, middle, and late was was one of their better performances of the year. Yeah, I mean they had eight two two strike hits last night and that that that hurts a pitcher and the defense they battle you and they hit some very good pitches to keep innings going. These are the kinds of offenses that can be tough for TKO. The ones that have high contact rates. Swing and miss. Foul tip to the glove of the catcher Dylan Dingler. And he starts the game with another strikeout. Let’s take a look at our keys to the game presented by Nissan. Well, for Cleveland, you better take your best shot at Scooble. You’re not going to get many of them. So, if you get that fast ball, put it in play. And Detroit trying to salvage a game in this series. Gabriel Arius swings and misses. You can have some success if you put the first pitch in play against Terk Scubal. I guess that’s the big if, right? If if you can put it in play. Well, and the thing of it is the first time through he’s going to establish, I believe, his fast ball to prove that he can throw it for strikes and then he goes to his nasty stuff, that change up and breaking ball. So, and if you get a good pitch, you got to hit it. When you swing through it, he’s making it look easy. The first two hitters. Wow. That’s textbook right there, isn’t it? Yeah, it it really is. Hard in change up is simply one of the best pitches. I mean, he’s got the great arm speed with that just looks like his fast ball. So, you know, you got to separate. You cannot sit on both those pitches. Jose Ramirez, the respectful booze as he steps to the plate, pops it up, and Zack McKinchie will take care of him. and is a nine pitch first inning for TK Scubble and the Tigers. Take a look at the Tigers lineup against Logan Alli. The Logan Allen, the 26-year-old from Elamonte Springs, Florida. Spencer Tolson’s comeback season has been the big driver of this Tigers offense, second best in the American League. The other guy you want to circle today on that lineup card, Andy Ibanz, because he had a two homer game against this guy last year. Matt Verling just off the injured list. Steps to the plate. Had a rock solid season last year. A little bit banged up all year, but this is a key key player to have back. Dries this one deep to center field. Thomas is tracking it though, and he’ll haul it in deep straightaway center. Yeah, that’s a playground for center fielders in this ballpark. You love it. Would you like to play here? Oh, absolutely. You pitch into the left center, right center field. That you can hit it there all day long. One of the largest outfields. The contrast between Detroit and Cleveland in the outfields is rather stark. Yeah, it truly is. But just think about Old Tiger Stadium and that uh flag pole was in play in the old stadium and that was the beautiful thing back then. That was 440 then to center field, not 420 as this one. A mere 440. Yeah, just a we used to take a cabin if you caught one on the track out there. Gets the call on the change up away. Rick, you look at the last three years for Logan Allen. The RA from 380 to 570 to 380 the last three years. And it feels like it’s all about getting the right-handed hitters out command and and that’s one thing he’s doing this year. He’s pitching more inside with the cutter and the fast ball to establish the inside part of the plate. And there you’re going to see a walk. He walked a couple times last night, didn’t he? Three times last night. Yeah, he walked three times is right. He’s walked more than he has struck out. Laborators has added a lot to this lineup. Well, Andy Manz was in the leadoff spot on May the 7th last year against Logan Allen. First time he’d been in the leadoff spot. And he did this. homered his first time up and BZ takes a strike. Well, it’s not the first left-hander he’s done that too. He hits left-handers very well and that was that ball game was in Cleveland for Logan Allen. That’s his first start in this ballpark in his career. Fouls that off the catcher hedges. He’s going to need a moment. So, he hit the solo home run to start the game and then next time up the opposite way. Well, hit the ball where it’s pitched and he certainly did that. So, you know, he’s got good thoughts going through his mind coming into this ball game. Starting to heat up. This is one of those guys that AJ Hinch just loves having on his bench as a, as he likes to call it, a chess piece from late in the game for opposing managers have to take account of where Andy Banz is. And he has one of the best batting averages against Cleveland than anybody. He has hit us very well. It doesn’t matter left-handed or right-handed. He’s been very good. The overall numbers off to a quiet start even against lefties, but this guy can hit. You can just flat out hit. We started to see the hard contact in recent weeks. Logan Allen, a guy that works just like Scooby. He likes to get the ball, stay on the rubber, and work quickly. And when he pitches ahead in the count like he is now 02, I mean he’s been fine. The O2 a little bit high. So it’s not going to be the big power stuff obviously, but there are several things that stand out about him. Rick, right? He’s hitting lower average and a lot less power. There’s not a lot of hard contact when Logan Allen’s on the mound. That’s a pitch he’s going to need. that little back door uh sweeper he’s been using to the right-handers after he establishes in. You can see the difference coming down the OPS this year. Hedg is setting up in pitch and he absolutely buried the fast ball in that’s what he needs to do, doesn’t he? Yeah, that’s exactly what he needs to do. He went with that little sweeper away the last time up and he sneaks one in on the inside part of the plate. And Austin Hedges is back there behind the plate will help him navigate his way through this Tigers lineup who could be very dangerous. Tigers best hitters against lefties. Spencer Torlson has put up big numbers. Zack McKinstry has actually a lefty has been one of the Tigers best hitters against lefties and Gabber Torres the other. Riley Green much improved in the power department against lefties last year. Off to a quiet start, but you look, you just want him in the lineup. Yeah, you look at you know left-handers. Allen has a 351 batting average against lefties. They they hit them they hit them better than righties do. Good take by Riley Green. One ball, two strikes. Quiet start lasted into late April in the 27game stretch. Now hitting 350 with power. Torres takes off. Hades throw to second. Oh boy, that’s easy. Got a ball right there. First time Glaver Torres cut down attempting to steal this year after four successful attempts. And the walk does no harm. Logan Allen to the first. Stormas. Base is loaded. Lane Thomas loves the first pitch. A grand slam. Lane Thomas. What a moment. What a swing. It’s flag Lane Thomas facing TK Scubble for the first time since that moment. And what a moment. Trick Scooble to that point in the postseason had given up one run in 17 innings. Complete dominance against Houston and Cleveland. That turned a 1-1 game into a 5-1 game and delivered the win and made Thomas a hero in Cleveland. Well, and that was a first pitch fast ball that he hit and it was down in the zone. And that’s where Thomas likes the ball down, but he he ran one in on the first pitch here. There’s a nice change up. You know, both of them are thinking about I mean, how do you wipe that out of your mind in this moment as a hitter? You’re thinking, boy, I hope he finds my bat again. Pop up fouled and out of play because if he makes his pitch, you’re not going to hit it. This is a cleanup spot. Carlos Santana was in this spot originally. Thomas waiting on the one two little. Look at this. And TK Scubble will make the play unassisted. How about that indeed? I mean that didn’t look like he was out of the fair catch and I mean he had some spin on it but Scubble gets off the mound and makes a play himself. Beautiful. Let’s get on to Andre not a third member of our crew. Andre there was supposed to be somebody else in that cleanup spot today and Arch is all excited cuz it’s Sunday early thinking his football is not kickoff just yet but for Carlos Santana at 39 years old. They took him out of the lineup because he had a little leg tightness in his left leg. Now Arch, we were doing the game in Minnesota before we came here in Detroit. If you remember, he was walking and he kind of tightened up on that left leg. So, they just want to take care of him. And Danny’s 39 years old. They call him grandpa. So, they wanted to take care of him on this quick turn around. I’m telling you, he doesn’t look like a 39year-old these first three games. He’s moving well. He takes care of himself so well, Dan. And I think because of the schedule, just like Detroit, Guardians have been playing a lot of games in a row. They got to go home and play the Dodgers. They just felt there was no reason to force him today. Okay. Now, he still will be available to pinch it late in the game, but they saw no reason when he said he was a little tight to force him to play today. Yeah, good call. They’ve been on a stretch of 13 in a row. Fly ball left field. First pitch swinging deep, but at the wall, Matt Furling first start in left field. Makes a fine catch. You can have success swinging at the first pitch. Two deep fly balls on the first pitch. End the second inning. Fine play by Matt Beerling. are scoreless to the bottom of the second. Statcast powered by Google Cloud. We look at the Arsenal for Logan Allen. He has added a sinker this year to his repertoire of pitches. As Rick Manning said, that sweeper on the back door has been a real weapon for him against righties. Yes. One of the reasons he has Well, it’s just much improved. What you really notice the extra base power is much lower than last year. Soft little tapper threw it almost down the right field line. He rushed it. He had an easy play. He got to it in plenty of time to take his time turn and throw, but he tried to rush it and he pulls Manardo off the bag. Sometimes that happens to pitchers. They they want to get over there and get it quickly, but watch there. He’s only halfway down. You just got to make a good throw. Now that’s going to give him an opportunity. That’ll be an error. That brings up one of the key bats in this lineup along with Carrie Carpenter, Riley Green, Spencer Torlson, the former 1-1 pick. Takes that back door sweeper that is such a key weapon for Logan Allen for a called strike one. There was no obvious spot on this Tigers roster for Spencer Torqulson at the start of spring training, but the Tigers let him know you can hit your way basically onto this team. And he did. That’s a great challenge to any Bud baseball player because as a young player, you know, you have a tough sophomore year. Boy, you got to get challenged and make changes. And he certainly did. He’s much more athletic in his stance and it is providing a lot of pleasure for him right now. slicing drive down the right field line. Andre, you’ve taken a look at that athletic different stance for Spencer Torlson. Standing deeper in the box. He’s further away from the plate and is allowing his swing path to cater to the outside pitches. Now, we saw him earlier this series hit a big home run and an off speed pitch. And Dan, you were able to watch him. The changes he made says a lot about where he saw himself in trying to get back. A lot of that off his bat, too. A line guard down the line. Green around second up with the ball. Jones into second. Torqulson. What the Tigers do? Aggressive base running. Second and third. Nobody out of the second. Well, you watch the freedom he has in his swing. He can extend the arms now. And take a look at at 24. You can see it on the left side of that screen. We see where the hands are wrapped. But boy, he can get his hands through. one. He hit a ball the other night, a hanging slider, and he put his head right down knowing that he got all of it. And that was a real home run. Even when the the new fences are out, he hit one deep into the seats. Tigers have always felt like, Rick, that he’s he has elite reaction times. He can hit a fast ball, but he just wasn’t the bat path was not allowing him to do that. This one is soft. Oh, you got to be caught. coming off the base. Usually run the contact play and well that’s a big mistake there by Torqulson. I mean the plays in front the infield was in and he’s got nowhere to go because the man on you can’t force a man off third base and then uh Arius just made the tag he could do. Yeah, he did. made sure that he got the out without a throw so that Justin Henry Mallaloy could not advance to second brings up Dylan Dingler. Runers at the corners one out trying to get on the board first wrapping up this four-game series. Guardians have taken the first three by shutting down the second highest scoring team in the American League in each of the first three games. Now, the Tigers actually when you when you look at it, the Dodgers have 75 multi-run innings, which leads baseball. The Tigers and the Cubs are next at 73. So, they can put some crooked numbers on the board, and that’s how they take you out of a ball game quickly. foul back to the screen. And that’s the biggest thing with it. I mean, the Tigers offense, you know, the difference is the ability to put up a crooked number in an inning. You know, those I mean, if you put up one run at a time, that’s fine. I mean, I mean, you try to do that offensively, but when you start putting two and threes on the board or or or at a four spot, that takes a team right out of a ball game. So, what it leads to for the Tigers, a little more gametoame consistency. four, five, and six runs a lot more often. And also helps the bullpen where you can go out there and relax a little bit where everything’s not a one-run game or a two-run game. Oh, two tap foul over by the Tigers dugout. Dylan Dingler had a chance to do a lot of the catching when Jake Rogers went on the injured list in April with an oblique. Missed about six weeks and Tigers just very impressed. Fifth round pick in that 2020 draft out of Ohio State. and is it’s a complete game and he hits the ball hard. Strikes out here on a beauty of a change up down from Logan Allen. Well, now Logan Allen has an opportunity to pick himself up after that leadoff error where he had the first out of the inning and made a wild throw. So, he’s battled his way back to get out of it and keep a zero. And other than the Torlson ball, we’re seeing kind of hit the ball hard as well. We’re seeing though he can induce the soft contact when he really needs to. Yeah. Keeps you in a rocking chair. You know, he’s he’s not overpowering whatsoever. That’s pitching. Yeah. That’s keeping the keeping it off the barrel of the bat, changing speeds. Zack McKinstry has hit 348 in 46 at bats against lefties this year. trying to hit his way into a lineup every day. And he basically has been an everyday guy. This is one of the more valuable players on this Tigers team. It’s not the name that everybody knows, the Carpenters, the Greens, the Torlson’s, but this guy because he can play all over the field and play every position. Well, uh well, isn’t that the way a lot of teams are doing it now where you get like the Swiss Army knife or the guy that can play in two or three or four positions and he can do it daily? They find themselves getting 350 at bats off the plate and in. See, he doesn’t have that great breaking ball there that that’ll lock up a left-hander. That sweeper is a little bit different to the right-handers. They give up on it away, but he’s got to start it behind the left-handed hitter. See, Hedg is setting up away. Tried to go further away. McKenry fouls it off. The count is full. That’ll loosen up Malloy from first base. Zack McKinstry is going to join us in the top of the third. I was going to say we have an opportunity to talk to him. We’ll see what happens in this at bat. Allen’s 3-2. Down and away. Patient at bat. Tigers last night scored three in the first inning off Luis Ortiz. And Rick, it was the third inning when they loaded the bases with two outs and didn’t score. That really was kind of the key moment in that game. That was a very big moment in that game because when you got a three nothing lead early and in that first inning and you can add on within the next couple innings, it’s a pretty good chance you could take a team out of the game. Another comeback of the year candidate at the plate, Jav Bayz. Andre. Yes. You know, you’re talking about runners in scoring position and what the Guardians have been able to do against the Tigers this weekend. They are 4 for 24 with runners in scoring position so far, hitting 166. got to throw the offsp speed pitches to Bayz out of the strike zone. He’s hit the ball in the strike zone on on pitches that are spinning better than he’s ever had in his career so far this year, Dan. And you’ve watched it. Well, Andre, he’s made a chance uh uh changing his swing as well. Changes moved up in the box, right? And that’s helped him against pitches that are spinning, guys. Cuz in the past, he’s been way back in the back. The ball that’s bounced and the slider away has been a problem. But now that he’s moved up, as you guys see there, he’s going right into the bat path. They got to be careful here. Softly fouled on the third baseline. Hip surgery in the off season for Jav Bayz after I mean truly a miserable season at the plate. But Ricky had to cheat to get to the fast ball to compensate for the bad hip and that leads to all kinds of problems. Well, when you’re not healthy, it’s tough to it’s tough enough to play this game when you’re you are 100%. When you’re injured, it’s very difficult. to two softly to third. Wilson steps on third. The force on Mallaloy coming over to third and we are scoreless through two. Tigers and Guardians wrapping up their four game series. Well, we talked about Zack Mckinry, the Swiss Army knife for manager AJ Hinch. He can play anywhere. Seven positions. You feel good wherever he is. But Zack, this is your favorite spot, isn’t it? Oh, I love it here. high inside. Yeah, it comes natural. That’s where I played growing up. So, yeah, good time. Fly ball to right is routine for Justin Henry Mallaloy. Give us advantage point watching TK. You’ve been watching him from the outfield most of the year, Zach. Yeah. Watching him from shortstop and just watching him period and what what impresses you about this guy? Yeah, the way he dominates the zone. I mean, this guy, he’s going to throw strike one right at you. He’s coming at you. So, he’s a lot of fun to watch, a lot of fun to play behind, a lot lot of action. Well, Zack, he’s the type of pitcher you’re ready on every pitch because he’s so close around the plate. Exactly. He makes guys swing the bat. You got to love that. Yeah, that’s a lot of action. Now, when you’re playing shortstop, do you uh wear the pitch com in there so you know what pitch is coming? Oh, yeah. It’s on the left ear right now so I can hear you guys. You know you But you don’t in the outfield, do you? Nope. Not on the outfield. Just kind of guessing along with the game. You think a little bit more out there when you’re Yeah. You know, you’re watching the game. Just kind of seeing what the pitcher is doing. But it’s nice to know what he’s going to throw on the infield because you’re so much closer. Exactly. Maybe cheat a step or two. Correct. All right. We haven’t seen the sun in about a week. Is it What’s the sunfield here during a day game when it’s tough? Yeah, it’s beautiful out there today, you know. Uh got to got to love the sun. Um yeah. Is it left field, center field? Uh yeah, right behind me. Nice touch. Yeah, it’s not really playing any effect in the infield right now. So, it’s just uh keeping us warm. Zack Gabber Torres playing next to you. Describe what he’s done for this team this year. The addition of Glabber Torres. Yeah, definitely. Uh he’s a good glove. Like for sure glove right out him. Love to watch him do what he does. He has great great uh appearances in the at the plate and uh yeah, it gives us a chance every day to come out here and uh just continue to put pressure on the other team. Softly in front of the plate. That is a fair ball and that is a quick inning. That’s a scary for you guys. I knew that would happen, Zach. Thanks, man. Yeah, thanks for having me. Nolan Jones a little tapper and TKO is perfect through three. Matt Verling leads off for the Tigers. Nine up, nine down so far for Terubel on 25 pitches. Logan Allen threw 24 just last inning. So his pitch count climbing coming off a three inning start last time out. That was a rainhortened start. As Rick said, this Guardians team has been on a road trip where they’ve hardly seen the sun. Sweeping slider down and in Berling just back. The Tigers are going to get two more regulars back in the weeks ahead and Parker Meadows and Welo Perez. What’s been impressive is a Tigers team that was middle of the pack offensively last year more toward the bottom than the middle and without three regulars. They’ve been able to Meadows has been out all year, right? He’s been out all year. Matt Being been out all year until he came back two games ago. To see them explode offensively so much better and you’re still in the process of getting three key regulars back. Jake Rogers just came off the injured list. Softly in the air to right, Kenzie Noel makes the catch. Well, MLB Sunday leadoff on the Roku channel is sponsored in part by Ace the helpful place and by Dove whole body do 72-hour odor control plus skin care everywhere. AJ Hinch, the thing that he has instilled and I think Cleveland’s been doing this a long time, Rick. Just the the whole idea of I’m going to believe a guy can play another position until he shows me he can’t, right? And the Tigers have everybody on this team except for maybe Glaver Torres and Trey Sweeney who’ve been kind of the rocks at second and shortstop plays multiple positions. Zack McKinley as we said maybe seven different positions and it allows because there aren’t the typical regulars that some of the very best teams have had and like he had in Houston. The position flexibility means that when you welcome back these guys coming off the injured list, you can move everybody around to accommodate more pieces to play the chess game with. Yeah. And you know what you like to have every day. He walked again. He’s a walking machine. He’s got a very good eye. That’s five the last two days. Yeah. But you know that’s the thing. Everybody’s going there and it’s nice to have everyday ball players you know that you can plug into some certain positions. But, you know, you look at ours, we got Ramirez, you got Santana, and you got Quan. Basically, the everyday players and guys that are, you know, will play anywhere and everywhere. Seen Schnean at short and at second. Menardo at second. Short, he’s played the outfield. I mean, every team is going to this because it’s different than what it used to be because you have so many bullpen guys now. There’s eight levers in every bullpen and they can’t find enough of them. So, you’re short on the bench. So, you’ve got to have guys that can play multiple positions. Tigers starting toward the end of last year started to play a brand of baseball that I would say maybe not modeled after Cleveland, but this is what Cleveland has done so well. Starting with the Terry Francona era of doing all the little things to score runs, but basically you’re playing the game trying to win the the battle 90 ft at a time softly in the air. Long throw back to first and they would have gotten Blabber Torres. I think he was a dead duck if if he could have got a little more on that throw. It’s short hop Manardo at first and he gets by him. But if he makes the solid throw, it would have been a double play. He got caught, but he catches a break. Ball wasn’t hit hard. And there’s Arius getting it. He’s got the strongest arm on the ball club, but just a short hop. You know, this team talking about the the guys you’re going to use, you use 40 man roster if you’re going to win anything throughout the course of the year. You don’t stay with 25 men because you have to deal with injuries and other things that go on. So, you have to utilize that 40man roster throughout the course of the year, whether it’s pitching and position players or whatever. Cleveland has done it with run prevention, but offense has built in recent years, Rick, on contact. Maybe not a lot of bombing the ball. No, but it’s stuff like that. Yeah, put the ball in play. They they’ve always been able to cut down on strikeouts, but now you you get to a point where they and they’ve had some one of the youngest teams, but you you know, you got to move on from that. You you got to learn. You got to They learned how to take pitches and and take good healthy cuts and hitters counts, but when you get to two strikes, you give in and you take what is given to you. Four pitch walk to Riley Green. He’s getting himself in trouble now. Fourth walk for Logan Allen. It’s one of the things that Steven Vote has been impressed by with Allen, even though the walks are up. I I thought it was interesting, Rick, that he feels that the command that he has shown, even if the walk rate’s a little higher than last year, has been one of the biggest improvements for him. Yeah. Well, yes, because they’re not getting to him early hitting it. He’s maybe has a little more patience out there and he doesn’t give in to the hitters as much. Got to take advantage of your opportunities. This is where Detroit hasn’t been able to do it in this series or it could be a totally different series. an entire series and and you get to this point when you get to two strikes that’s something that the Guardians have done well in this series in Detroit last night one for 14 softly to short Arius will take care of Spencer Tolson and he gets out of it is stranded three in two different innings TKU has been perfect through three he’ll take them out in a scoreless game in the fourth when we come back AJ just You got your big guy on the mound today. He’s gone through the lineup quickly the first time. Just your thoughts on what it’s been. Well, he throws first pitch strikes and so the other side always generally is going to swing early. You know, when he’s on, he has his stuff. We get quick outs like this. Obviously, it’s it’s it’s key for him to keep throwing strikes and forcing contact. Big thing I want to talk to you about. Everybody talks about analytics, but I love how you use your whole roster and they do that on the other side. How important is it to have the guys that can have the versatility to do what you guys are doing? Yeah, you got to move guys around the field. You’re trying to find strengths, obviously. Now we got to make better decisions in game. We haven’t played a great first third of the game, but the back third could be or the back two/3 could be pretty interesting with both guys using using their whole roster. We appreciate the time. Great work. Thanks AJ. Thanks Andre. Scoo just filling up the strike zone so far. And you can see that’s what their approach is. We we can’t let them. They need all three swings to get to this guy. So that’s why I say, you know, he’s going to make an adjustment maybe the second time through, but as that what we see, he doesn’t have to. He can continue to throw the same thing he’s been throwing until they prove they’re going to hit him. He likes it when teams get into swing mode. Oh, yeah. Why Why wouldn’t you Once he does, he feels like he can he goes out there and just watching from afar and when I’ve watched him pitch other games, he looks like he has fun out there. I mean, he and and if a hitter’s, you know, challenging him and and does a good job off him, he loves it because it’s the competition that he gets into. There’s a nice little change up down and away. I mean, when you when when he throws that and you’ve had your chance to hit your fastball, you’re in trouble. Well, suit up this season at mlbshop.com. Rick, this really is one of the rare combinations of power arm who just hates to walk batters. Hates it swing and a miss. What does that do that the Tigers talk about this all the time under Scott Harris that the emphasis has been on first pitch strikes, getting to leverage, getting winning the race to two strikes. What does that do to the guy in the batters box when you know this arm is coming at you and he’s just going to challenge you right from the start? Well, you’re glad, but you know what? You can’t cover both his pitches or all three of them. Early in the count, if you’re going to look fast ball, look for it and look for it either in or out. And I think early in the count, look in because his change up is the one that gets you off away. You can’t cover both, the change up and the fast ball. And if you get the count in your favor, he’s been ahead of every heavy hitter. Like you said, first time through the line of 25 pitches. You can’t help him out if you’re sitting looking fast while you can’t swing at the change up early. One, two is sliced. Foul down the right field line. Gabriel Arus at the plate. As we said, these are two really young teams and the Guardians are still still figuring out what they have in some of these guys. But this young man intrigues me. Well, he intrigues a lot of people because he’s a big strong athlete that has a great arm. He’s got power. He’s got a lot of swing and miss in that bat, but he needs a ch chance to play every day and get used to it. Fifth strikeout for Scoo. all have been swinging and we have seen a lot of that. That was 99. He had a stretch of three straight starts. 10 pitches of 99 or more. The fastball velocity is up and these are the matchups you just live for. But yeah, but you know what the the key is that can be 96 or 94 if he’s putting it where he wants to on the inside part of the plate. You know, don’t get caught up into the the the numbers on the fast ball. If you locate it, it’s a they can’t hit it anyway. Ramirez deep fly ball. Good swing. Wrong part of the ballpark. Third out of the fourth inning. And TK Scubble has been perfect through the first four innings. 12 up, 12 down with five strikeouts. Scoreless to the bottom of the fourth. Andre had a chance to catch up with Guardians manager Steven Bode in between innings. Stephen, so far, uh, Allen’s been able to keep them off the board. What have you liked about what he’s done early? Yeah, he’s been making pitches when he needed to. You know, a few free bases, but got himself into trouble, but the defense and then he made pitches when he needed to. So, keep battling. Being a manager in the AL Central, how proud are you of what everybody’s doing in Central? And for those that are around the country that don’t know about it, what stands out about this division? You know, this division plays really good fundamental baseball. I think that’s that’s really what stands out. It’s good baseball. It’s back and forth. It’s mix and match. You got to play matchups and it’s just a lot of fun to compete against these teams. We appreciate the time. Right. I liked how Steven put it when we met with him this morning. Rick, this is as you talked about kind of a budding rivalry even though these two teams have been playing baseball in their respective cities for 125 years. But he said it’s a friendly rivalry. And he meant that in the best way. meaning we want to compete and beat each other, but there’s so much mutual respect among all the teams in the Central. Yeah, they play the game the right way. Softly to third. Heck of an effort by Will Wilson. Justin Henry Malloy is going to reach for an infield single to start the board. Yeah, I think this rivalry can be a good one for a long time as you’re going to see the infield hit that Wilson does the best he can, but Malloy beats it out. That’ll be a a leadoff single. Yeah, it it’s fun when you can compete against teams in your own division and there’s not an animosity or anything like that. You respect them, but you know what? You both want to win. We both want to win. Absolutely. That’s that’s the that’s the best way to play the game. that division series last fall that went the full five games had a lot of moments in it and that could be the start of a really good and you you look at Minnesota and Kansas City I mean three teams in the Central last year people said this is the weakest division over I you know you I don’t disagree with it there’s some pretty good teams in this division today’s standings presented by T-Mobile as we look at the central argu arguably the best divisions in baseball. I would say it’s right there with the National League West. Four teams with winning records out the back door. Got more out there, right? Nailed that pitch a few times. 2-2 on Dingler. Tigers started this weekend series against Cleveland six up. So, it’s down to three. Twins have the miserable start and so did the Royals. And then both got really hot. 13game win streak for the Twins. That’ll do wonders for you, Andre. This division has really become I mean last year four teams with the winning records and the same this year and arguably better. Dan, say it out loud. This is the best division of saying it out loud together. You’re also though, you know, we’ve been paying attention all weekend to Minnesota and Kansas City. Great match up they’ve had. Minnesota’s had two walk-off wins, two close games in their series to start their series off. Dingler on a line but hit it too hard. And Dan, I think that’s big when you look at what Minnesota’s done. They get back into the running mix. Like the playoffs started right now. Detroit would have a buy, the Yankees would have a buy, Seattle would be in, and then it would be Cleveland, Minnesota, and Kansas City. Now, I know it’s early, and we’ve got a lot of baseball to go. But when you go off of what we saw at the end of last season and how this has started and what Detroit’s doing, it’s time for the rest of the country to realize there’s some great baseball being played in the middle of the country. Absolutely, Andre. Three of the last four teams standing at the end of last year in the American League were from the Central. What Kansas City did with their improvement in one season was absolutely phenomenal. Yeah, it really was. After losing 106 games, they come in, what they make over 20 30 game in 30 game. Yeah, 30. Yeah. Cleveland’s there every year. And the pitching for all four of the ball clubs we’re talking about right now. Kansas City’s got some great starters. And you look at Minnesota, their starters are well, and their bullpen may be as good as the two bullpens we’re seeing here right now, guys. I don’t disagree with that at all. Kansas City did it. You’re absolutely right, Andre, with run prevention. They cut their runs allowed by more than 220 runs. That’s phenomenal. And you’re thinking, can they carry that into the next season? Well, they have. Yes. You know, the other thing, and I know you guys talk to the managers from other teams, when you go around the other teams, they all tell me they can’t stand playing these teams in the Central because of run prevention, because of defense, and then the way they run the base pass. Detroit has been great going first to third, second to home. They’re the best at doing that. The Guardians have done that forever. You play a different type of game. Gritty is a word that I hear a lot, and I agree with it. It’s a good brand of baseball. No doubt. Well, you can’t rely on the home run, right? We’ve made the home run such a big deal in this time of the country. You know, everybody talks about, you know, what show is doing and he’s a great player, but when you got to get 27 outs and earn them, it’s a different type of ball game. Zack McKis had some very patient at bats. Yes. He’s not uh he’s not fishing going out of the strike zone. He’s making Logan Allen come into the zone. Well, Arch, you’ve talked about this with Logan Allen. He’s done a great job against righties, but lefties putting them away as a problem right now for him. He doesn’t have a putaway pitch for him. Deep in the air to right, got a chance. Gone. Zack McKinstry continues his impressive production against Lefties. Third home run of the year and a two nothing lead for the Tigers. Well, and there’s your lefty in the lineup that does the damage and he’s playing his favorite position. He likes to play for only the third time this year, but he put a good swing on that one to give him a two nothing lead. That’s his third home run on the year. Give him a couple more ribbies and he’s pretty happy camper right now. a guy who, as AJ Hinn says, makes this lineup work. Yeah. I mean, there there’s guys in there that that they do their thing. Yeah. Best base runner on this team, you know, with the unsung hero. You know, he’s finds ways to to do things that help you win. Guardians have been full of those players for years. That’s the fourth home run allowed on the year by Allen. Is deep to left field. That’s not home run distance, but it’s going to drop for extra bases. Jones hunts it down by his big turn and hold at second base. Home run followed by a double. Still only one out here in the fourth. Yeah, that’s nowhere. Left fielder’s not going to get there. hit it down the line and floated down to the double. But now the second time through that lineup, they started to do a little bit of damage. Three hits in this inning. It’s exactly what Andre was talking about earlier when when sweepers sliders are out over the plate. You got to hit Bayz is doing damage and he went down and got that sweeper. Dan, last year against hitting breaking balls in the zone, he hit 169. Two years ago, he hit 231 against those same pitches. This year, coming into the series, he’s hitting over 300. When you spin it and you keep it in the zone, right now, Jav Bayz is a 304 hitter. So, that tells you you cannot miss in the zone with spinners right now because Bayz is hitting them and hitting them hard. Yeah, that’s the thing. You can see getting busy. Jeff Junice, yes, he’s hit some mistakes, but your point, he didn’t hit those. No. In recent years, not that he was chasing sliders, which he was, but he wasn’t hitting them when they hung. Yeah. Yeah. You go through He’s seen enough breaking balls in his career. He knows what they do. Well, Dan hit on it perfectly. When you’re hurt, you’re cheating on the heater. It’s very difficult when that ball’s slowing down. Arch, you’ve been in that box. You know, you see it. A lot of guys cheat on fast balls when they have to at certain points, but then you have to give an end to something else. And it was off speed for Jav. Talk about what a good base runner McKinstry is. Jav Bayz has always been an outstanding base runner. Great instincts. Oh, yeah. Instincts. You just hit on the word. Yes. Yeah. He may not be the fastest guy, but he’s got the the right feel for when you can run and when you can and when to take an extra base. They challenge you. Maybe the most underrated thing about Jose Ramirez, who’s DH in the day, is his instincts. Not the fastest player on the field. That one’s routine to Noel in right. Jav’s going to tag and go. Big arm for Noel. Throw is offline. That’s one of the things the Tigers have been doing consistently. Even with the big arms, they’re running. Jose Ramirez, Andre, just to follow up on that. Oh yeah. There. I mean, you look at his yeartoear. I always love the first to third. That’s a sign of a instinctive base. Absolutely. Well, last night, nobody is better than Jos Ramirez. Well, last night, look how they tied the game up. Manardo hit the ball to Torpson in front of first base and he still was able to tie the game up. Like, there’s only about a handful of players in MLB. Handful that could do that. What happened last night? It’s a very short list. Yeah. Mookie Betts is one of them that can do that and he did it in the World Series and everybody loved him. But when you can do that for your team, it it does wonders. Dan, as you talk about just the the things about these teams that are alike, the one thing that the Guardians have is all of these players, they tell me in spring training, we have to play like Jose plays. Down the left field line, hooking fair ball, one hop to the wall. Torres has reached eight consecutive trips to the plate. His RBI double with two outs in the fourth. Makes it a three nothing game. Yeah. What a difference he makes in his lineup for the Tigers. He’s he’s very patient. Like you said, five walks in the series and now Allen didn’t want to walk him, so he gives up a double. So, they’ve had a big inning, a three-run inning with four hits, a single, two doubles, and a home run. It was one of those signings in the offseason, you’re like, “Okay, that’s a nice signing.” But then you realize when you add a 760 780 OPS guy, guys, to a lineup that needs that kind of veteran presence, he’s only 28, but that’s a veteran presence. It It’s added a lot more than just beyond that. Yes. To a young team. Yes, it did because New York. Yes. It gives it length though. You know what I mean, Art? It gives them Now, you don’t have to put Torqulson right there in the four spot. You don’t have to put Dingler in there. McKinstre’s down at the bottom. It gives them length and gives them a es it out. Yes. Into left center. That’s going to score Glaver Torres. Throw to the plate. Offline and down to second. Andy Manz. Four hits last five batters. All for extra bases. And a four nothing lead for the Tigers. Yeah, there’s a ball. They probably should have cut the throw. He fell when he was throwing the ball. They should have cut it and got the out at second base. They did do it. They let it go through and the next thing you know he’s on second base. Now Dan, something that they’re dealing with over on this side. I’m sure with the pitch count with the score, they’d like to get Logan Allen out of here because of how they use the bullpen this weekend and Hunter Gatis is not with the team, right? They’re going to try to get as many pitches out of him as they can cuz they’re short in the pen today after what they’ve had to use the last two nights. Yeah, they emptied the tank. That’s what all managers talk about. What I’ll do what I have to to win today’s game. worry about tomorrow tomorrow, you know, and he’s getting around that 100 pitch mark. So, he’ll be down out of here. He’d like to get him out of this inning now with two outs and not bring in a bullpen man. Leave him a free inning. Jacob Tunis getting loose softly back to the mound. Allen who did not make the play coming home and he’ll make it. The second time today that Allen when Green was hitting, he hit a bouncer right back to him and he could not make a good throw. The first time he threw it wide and this time he bounced it and that’s going to do it for Logan Allen. Unbelievable. Boy, almost the identical ball. It really was. This was even easier. He knew he wasn’t going to rush. He was telling himself, “Don’t rush.” but with the bad throw and then Manzardo picks it up. Can’t get it to home plate and that’s bad for everybody there. They’ve really opened up a big inning here. Eight men to the plate. The Tigers have scored five. Jacob Junis, one-time starter for the Kansas City Royals, now full-time reliever with the Guardians. Been kind of a swing guy in recent years, but strictly in relief this year. First pitch that he throws, hits Spencer Torqulson. Everybody booing, but I I’m I’m pretty sure that’s not any no real intent. Just trying to go in there. Looked like it might have got him on the back elbow. That’s what they’re going to look at right now. That first pitch, he was just trying to go up and in a little bit, but you can see it is the elbow. It was the bat one. He took that flush. You know, protection off the other elbow. Yeah. Well, of course, concern on the face of AJ Hinch as he walks watches Torpus walk down to first. We got Sweeney coming into pitch yet now. Tigers have batted around and with the righty on the mound, Jacob Junis. Trey Sweeney has been the mostly everyday shortstop for the Tigers this year. We’ll pinch in for Justin Henry Malloy. Rick, we’re watching both teams watching young hitters and learning how to hit at this level. One of the things that Trey Sweeney has been working very hard on getting the ball off the ground because he’s got pop. He’s got a lot of pop in this left-handed bat. That is not an easy thing to do, is it? No. I mean, you get used to it. I mean, line drives, but it it’s tough to change your swing over the course of a year. I mean, if you do it, you want to do it maybe in an off season where you have time to work on it, feel comfortable like with Torqulson, right? You know, you don’t want to have to do it uh, you know, throughout the course of a season and start thinking more of what you’re you have to do as opposed to just natural reaction. Has been getting the ball off the off the ground. He’s faced several sinker ballers lately. Get a ton of ground balls and he’s been able to lift the ball. It’s impressive. And just remind you how hard it is to do. Yeah. I used to hate sinker ballers. It’s tough to pick that ball up. You got to go down and try and get hit underneath it. And it’s it’s diving to the ground. It’s not an easy thing to do. The 3-1 popped up playable for Austin Hedges. Tigers send 10 men to the plate and score five Sunday in Detroit. Tigers try to take the finale. Take a five- run lead to the fifth. Teroo has been perfect through four on 37 pitches. It was a game against Cleveland last year where the Guardians had 10 hits. Only scored one run. 10 hits though season high in seven innings that really made TK and Jake Rogers his catcher last year for every start kind of changed things up to start spinning the ball early in the count and you were watching Rick. Yeah. As he took his warm-up tosses. He’s been almost exclusively fast ball change up today. Yes. And he hasn’t had to do he wasn’t going to do anything. Now he’s got a chance to maybe work on some of that breaking ball or get a feel for it. comes back with a change up after that first slider. But yeah, he’s basically been fast ball change up and has made it look so easy. But like I said, you don’t have to change. They haven’t had any good swings off him. They they hit a couple balls to the outfield. One went maybe to the warning track. Noel hit it back in the first and Manzardo hit one to the morning track to right trying to attack early in the count. This is the first two ball count since the first batter of the game. Anhel Martinez went to 2-2. There hasn’t been a two ball count for a Guardians batter until now. Thomas will foul it out of play. Talk about Terry Scubble fills up the strike zone. It’s 70% first pitch strikes. It’s almost 70% total strike. So high, so far above league average. Well, that goes to show you how good his stuff is. And he just keeps right on boiling down. Defensive changes. Trey Sweeney stays in the game. He’s in short. The Swiss Army knife Swiss Army knife moves out to right field. Zack McKinstry. See Jav Bayz on your chart there in center field. He’s been incredible with Trey Sweeney, the mostly everyday shortstop. Jav Bayz wasn’t fifth on the depth chart in spring training in center field. He wasn’t on the depth chart for center field. Yeah, right. And then one, two, three center fielders went down. Another came up, couldn’t hit enough. What a pleasant surprise, huh? And he just said, I I’ll play. I’ve always wanted to play. I played it as a kid. Let me let me do that. And he hasn’t just been fine in center field. He’s making plays. Yeah. In center field. Gap to gap. Home run robberies. Andre, you’ve been watching. Yeah, we’ve been watching. You know, Dan, the guy next to you will tell you all about center field. He came up as a shortstop and he’ll tell you usually you get to be more of an athlete out in center field, right, aren’t? You get to run around and be yourself. Yeah, it’s it’s a lot of fun, especially in a ballpark like this. Andre, we always talk about, you know, when you have a big center field, pitchers can pitch to that part of the ballpark and he’s right at home. And when you’re a short stop, you move right out there. It’s like watching it on television. Let me ask you this about the game plan that the Guardians came in with. They were extra aggressive to run this one down. They were extra They were very aggressive early. Now that we’ve got to the middle part of the game and they haven’t been able to do anything, you see them trying to be a little bit more selective. I’m hearing the guys down here talk about let’s find strikes. Let’s not go up there and swing the bat at anything. But that’s the thing. You’ve got to cut that plane in half. If you’re going to swing early on the first pitch, the second time through, it better be, you know, either inside or outside or take it, you know, to maybe make them work a little bit more just instead of to just put it in play. Six of the first 12 outs made on one of the first two pitches of the atbat. Last two batters have seen six and five pitches. and shattered bat. Stays inside and uh breaking bats. For the second time in his last five starts, TK Scubble has retired the first 15 batters to start the game. Welcome back to America Park. And as you see Dylan Dingler come to the plate. You may be seeing the change at the guard. the former Northeast Ohio kid that grew up in Guardians fan, has been catching more and more. Jake Rogers, who was the normal catcher last year, was just off the injured list. Now, guys, I bring this up because he started every game that schools started last year and even started last week when he came off the IIL, but it’s kind of a big thing, Dan, as you know, you’re here with him every day to see Dylan Digler in the lineup catching school. And it seems like this may be something that we may see a little bit more as the season goes along because he’s a big catcher that can do a little bit of everything for the Tigers. Yeah. And you know, it’s interesting. AJ was asked about it a lot. He’s not a big believer in personal catchers, Andre. But he’s like, well, why mess with a good thing? Last year was a good thing. Jake Rogers just handles Scubble. He knows how to, you know, he had that one game where he kind of slapped him in the face on the mouth. But that’s a relationship they have. softly in the air to right for the first out off Dingler’s bat. But Dylan Dingler, he he said in spring, “Hey, you’re one foul tip away from a catcher going on the IIL or in the case of Jake Rogers, a swing with the oblique.” And I want to make sure that my all my guys catch TKO. Dylan Diggler caught him in the spring and then when he filled in when Rogers on the IIL, he did a he did a terrific job. Well, he obviously loved Rogers because I don’t know. I love you guys. says, “I don’t know if I could give you the watch that Scooville gave.” He went to Sai Young and then he came out the most beautiful watch I’ve ever seen. Arch, I’ve been working with you a long time, man. I Yours is coming. Yours is coming at Allstar Break. Okay. That’s why I’m working here today for you. Look at this. Look at this. Now, this is a teammate, baby. You catch me and make me a sign. Look at that. That’s a beautiful beautiful Very nice. How about that? The bottom. Thanks, Raj. That’s That’s perfect. Well, you know, but Dingler’s doing a pretty nice job today, isn’t he? Yes, he is. Through five. Yeah, he’s doing a perfect job so far. Such a good athlete. He was a center fielder as a freshman at Ohio State. Well, Dan, I don’t know if you’ve noticed. I’m sure you have, but we keep looking at that roster from Detroit. You guys got more Ohio guys than we have on our team. Got guys from Zanesville. You fill up all the guys that used to root for Guardians in Indians. They used to root for Rick Manning and other Tigers. Good folks in Ohio. We know that Midwest Kinstry homered last time up fast ball misses in every count, every at bat now. It’s a free ball count. But you can see how he how well he’s seeing the ball in the batters box. He’s relaxed. It didn’t matter if a lefty’s out there or right-hander. When you’re seeing the ball as a hitter, you look so relaxed and you’re not afraid to hit with two strikes and you and you feel really good about it. But they get him out this time. See the flat footed swing there. That’s a rare pool by a pitch swing. Well, stay connected to your team with T-Mobile. It’s the best 5G coverage in the game. Home and away on America’s largest 5G network. Two up, two down after 10 men to the plate and five runs last inning. Azu the double scored a run. Kinstry’s hit got the scoring started. Torres Abany also with RBI’s in the inning. Juna’s ninth year in the major leagues, first year with Cleveland. RA just under five. Only 22 innings have worked. He’s been pretty hitable so far. Kind of a pitch to contact pitcher. He’s going to be in and around the strike zone. Yeah, he he works quickly. Grounded to third. Wilson will take care of Bayz and a one, two, three for Jacob Junis. TK Scubble has faced 15 batters through five. He’s retired all 15. Working with a five nothing lead. Today’s pitching lines brought to you by T-Mobile. Logan Allen started, gave up all five runs, only four of which were earned, but it was his error that led to the unearned run. Tick Scubble has faced 15 batters and perfect so far through five for the Tigers. We saw six strikeouts, no walks. This is now Terret Scuba walked three in Seattle in his second start of the year. He’s walked three, Rick, in his last nine starts. Well, I mean, 75 strikeouts. That’s why you have to be aggressive. He’s not going to give up any free passes to the gap in right center field. That’s a long run for everybody. And Will Wilson is going to be the first Guardians hitter to reach. Put up big numbers at Triple A this year. hasn’t done much in the major leagues so far. And this crowd is going to let Terrick Scuba know they appreciate what they just walked through the first five innings. Well, 15 up, 15 down. He plugged the gap in right center field. You go over there and you look, Mckenstra was uh out in right and he started it short stop and Bayz couldn’t get there because he was playing a more to left field and it just couldn’t have been placed any better. Now that’s the first hit allowed. He wanted somebody to make a diving catch right there. But th this is a guy that he can go out there on any given day and he’s got a chance to throw a no hitter. It really does remind you of the days at Kria Park with Justin Verlander at his peak. Absolutely. You would hear an audible groan. I know. You’re right. And we I mean we’ve been in the division and he’s thrown so many good games. He’s probably pitched more games against the Guardians than he has anybody in his career. And you’re right. anytime and they’ve had success off him, but he also had his his share, too. Talked about you can have some success if you put the first pitch in play for Terry Scuba. He just doesn’t care. It’s not going to change any bingo about how he’s going to attack. And I I just love that about him, Rick. He He’s always on the attack. Okay, sure, I may give up a home run on the first pitch or an extra base hit, but I it’s not going to get me out of the strike zone, right? I I mean, when you have his kind of stuff, you do the same thing. Have the guys that, you know, don’t throw 97 or 98 and have a great change up. I mean, you can just they got to work their way through it. Seventh strikeout, a steady diet of change ups to Austin Hedges. Yeah, you can’t you can’t hit both. you if you sit on the fast ball, you can’t hit that change up. And if you look for the change up, you’re not going to hit the fast ball. So, take your chances. I like my chances better on the fast ball. At least I’ll jam myself and put it in play. I My goal would be not to let him strike him out. What to pitch in, check swing, and Jones is hit by the pitch. They actually appealed down to Ryan Wills at third base. She says no, he did not go on the swing. Looked like hit him on the left. Yeah, left elbow. You’re going to see it. It’s pretty much the same as Torlson got right there on the back elbow as he’s going in. See the hitters wear that padding on the front. They don’t think about that back elbow and then all of a sudden it comes in and it holds its plane. And that’s we’ve seen two guys get it today. He’s just upset he got hit. He was that hurt. He’ll stay in the game, Rick. He’s intriguing. We watched him take batting practice yesterday. I know it’s only batting practice, but he can he can move a baseball. Yeah. And he had a good year in Colorado. And it wasn’t just 23. That was 23. Yes. And then he had his injuries last year and back issues and things like that. and just haven’t hasn’t recovered. Martinez softly to short. End it. Torres on the turn. Tough guy to double up. Tigers turn the 643 double play. Scubble gives up his first hit, but strong through six. Visit mlb.com/bat for details. Heard from Andre earlier, the bullpen a little bit taxed. Yeah, to get some innings. They need Jacob Junis to give some innings, don’t they? Yeah, it would be nice. But then again, every team runs into this throughout the course of the year when you hit a streak of playing maybe 13 straight after coming off a a stint where you go 23 out of 24 days in a row. Yeah, it it it does get taxed coming into this series. I know we talked whether it was with Hammy or with you, the bullpen’s not quite the same as last year. Well, they the bullpen was a full run better than the next best bullpen. Yeah. In the American League by erra last year. Well, Steven Vote even told us today they had a perfect year. Yeah. And you’re talking about the four guys that pitched over 70 times. You can’t do that year after year. There’s no way. It was fascinating to hear from Steven Vote about his experience as the bullpen coach in Seattle. Yeah. and how much that helped him understand the mental game for relievers. Torres got to know how they think, what they complain about, and the little things. And that helped him last year. The rest of the league is looking at Cleveland going the top five guys in appearances this year, all on Cleveland. Yeah. And they kept pitching well all year. Got off to the slow start thinking, well, did that workload catch up? But not No, it did. It did early, I think, because you know, you start when you get to games in April once you go that extra month or you play in the postseason, you you wear it for a while and they they stretched them out in spring training and everything, but you can expect people to come back and have the exact same kind of year they did the year before. It just doesn’t happen that way. Every year is different. Hey, they will be fine as the year goes on, but they’re not going to be like they were last year. That’s a one once in a generation, I think. Everything went perfect. Yeah. Gatis, Haron, Class, Smith. It’s an impressive group. Crazy. Softly to center off the bat of Andy Ibanz. And a one, two, three. Jacob Junis has retired the last seven in a row. Stepcast powered by Google Cloud. The swings and misses for TK Scubble today. 16 and all. And no surprise. Yeah, that change up is there leading the way, isn’t it? But it’s set up by that four seamer that he pitches inside and they may foul off or they can’t get to strike throwing incrementally increased or a jump for TK Scuba this year. This guy’s a beast. I mean, you wouldn’t think there’s another level, but he’s actually taken the strike throwing to another level. More swings and misses. Got it. Got it. Got it. Got it. Who’s going to call it? Aette is taking charge on the popup off the bat of Gabriel Arias. Anytime you see a pitcher in that 12, 13, 14 swings and misses in a single start, that kind of catches your eye. Tick Scubble has had starts this year, Rick, with 31 and 23 swings. Swings and misses. Oh my goodness. Is he throwing whiffle ball out there? The respectful booze always for Jose Ramirez. We’re talking about this guy with both managers today. AJ Hinch has just the utmost respect. One of the true There you go. Quiet superstars in the game. You get to watch him all the time. Rick line drive base hit. He’s had a great series. He’s had a He’s on a streak that continues his hitting streak to 18 now. He had a 17game streak coming into it. And this, if anybody was going to end it, you would think would be Scooble, but the third at bat, he gets himself a knock. He endeared himself to Tigers manager AJ Hinch at the 2018 All-Star game. AJ the manager and he was he had a lot of demands. As a manager, you got a lot of superstars and a lot of demands on what they do or don’t want to do in the game, how much they want to play, right? And he said, Jose Ramirez came up to me and said, “Whatever you need, that’s it. let me know. Um, I’ll do whatever. Whatever position, whatever inning. But that’s just the way Jose is. And he it started a just a mutual admiration society really. He he just loves the way he plays the game. And he he did say, “I’d love to walk him every time, but you can’t do it.” There’s times he was a thorn in the side last night. He always seemed to appear in that lineup when they didn’t want to see him. the tough out that he is. Yeah, he the consistency day to day. The thing that makes this Guardians organization what it is and is when your best player plays the game the way he does, he makes it easy for the manager and the coaching staff and everybody else because you got to follow his lead and he’s done it for quite some time. If you’re on the opponent’s side, you hate seeing him come up, but you just love watching the great players. He is a great player. And when you see him, you want to watch him pay that. People pay money to see this guy play and they should cuz he’s as good as it gets and every team has guys like that. Change up on the black is the first called third strike today for TKO. The eighth strikeout overall. Yeah. First time they took one looking, huh? Made a bit for a home run. First pitch swinging first time up. Worth repeating. Four home runs in 27 at bats for this lefty against lefties. Rick, that is a very good sign for a young hitter. Yeah. And you know what? He was inserted into the game. He wasn’t supposed to be playing today. Santana was in the lineup and then he came out with the leg issue and Manzardo got a put in and he’s slicing deep and in the end foul. Yeah, he’s just uh getting to know himself at the big league level now where he’s going to get better and better with every at bat he gets. He’s playing a little more first base at least than he did last year. and he got off to a great start hitting home runs off lefthanders. He had a couple of them in Kansas City. That’s where they opened their season up and got a couple home runs and got off to a great start. I think he was five for seven off left-handers and it has continued all year for him. We have seen many young lefties take years, even some of the very best. Think of David Ortiz, right? It takes a while to learn how to hit lefties at the major league level. Well, you know what people always say lefty on lefty. It’s a tough matchup no matter what, but you’re in the minor leagues, you usually play against them. You got to come up to the big leagues and then your managers can choose and pick who you want, but you still have to get an opportunity to play against them. Wow. 102 for TK Scubble freezes. That frees a lot of people. He has shut out the Guardians. Seventh inning stretch time in Detroit. Welcome back to America Park. And you know, for me, I had to celebrate my partner Rick Manning. He 50 years ago on Friday, he made his debut. And what better way to celebrate 50 years in the big leagues at a ballpark than with a hot dog, my friend. I’m right beside you. You didn’t even know it. Dan, I brought you one, too. How else would you celebrate 50 years? Now, I ran into some problems. Dan, I’ve heard some things about you. I got ketchup now. You already ketchup on the dog. All right, I I’m messing with you, Dan. I got some You did your scouting before. I scout on everything. This is what we do, dude. Hold on a second. I I may have something cuz I’ve heard about you. See, both of you guys. There we go. Now, for whatever reason, right? He refused to put a ketchup on a dog art. So, I figured I would I’d come up. Both you guys are muster guys. But I want to congratulate you on 50 years. One of the best teammates I’ve ever had. You don’t get 50 years very often, Dan. So, thank you guys both for doing this. What better way to celebrate? Get a dog. Andre, that’s awesome. I knew I was hungry. I know you’re hungry, brother. I know how you work. Does it seem possible 15? No, it does not. I love the Do you see the teams in the lineups there going? Look at that lineup. Can we get that lineup? That was awesome. Look at the guys he played against. Dan, think about this. He was 20 years old. I was going to say, what were you 12? No, I was 10. I was 10. He was 10. My son did the math yesterday. He goes, “Manics, that never But look at those names for Oakland.” I mean, that that’s those are right after the three. 72, 73, 74. And I didn’t get ahead in my third at bat. He got it at bat march. What was it? Had to be a line drive single. I’m not going to tell you if it hard hit hard or not. It was a line drive anytime you got a hit. Danny tells Danny tells us always it was a line drive in the newspaper always. It still is in my newspaper. Riley Green falls behind. No balls, two strikes. Nick Enright is making his major league debut. Dan, great story about Nick Enright. He was a rule five draft guy that went over to the Marlins. Then he found out that he had cancer and as he was getting ready to make his big league debut, found out that he could not pitch. So as he went through all of those things, he ended up getting pushed back to Cleveland, went through all this radiation and he’s making his major league debut. So shout out to the Enright family and Nick for all that he’s been through because this story is very touching. This wild was touch and go for him. That’s incredible. Congratulations. Incredible. And what he did there to Riley Green is what he’s been doing in the minor leagues. 31 strikeouts at Columbus in just 17 innings of work. Well, I’m glad we didn’t see a grounder back to the pitcher. Congratulations. A first hitter. He strikes out. Next, a papa. It’s pretty quick work. Now, I had to tell people there’s a reason why I brought ketchup and mustard up here, Dan. And I love you. I came up with everything. We Let’s get the clip of why we had to bring up ketchup and mustard for man Dan. So, uh, somebody on on Twitter asked, uh, # does Dan care? How much does Dan care about ketchup on hot dogs? Well, that’s a 10 because it’s wrong. I mean, it’s it’s wrong. You don’t put ketchup on a hot dog. You know that, right? Yeah, I’ve heard that in Chicago. Yeah. Growing up there. No, it’s just it’s mustard. You can put all you can put conies on, obviously, chili, onions, fine, but always mustard. No ketchup. Never. that Dan, I wasn’t putting you on the spot, Dan. But when I saw that and I knew what we were doing together, I go, I got to get to the bottom of this and I’m good with it. I like that you stick with who you are and what you are. So, you’ve never had ketchup on a dog. Is that I don’t you know, as a kid, I probably did because I I’ve always loved ketchup, but it’s just something about it out of dog. Do you agree? You get I bet you I bet you’re a mustard guy. I Well, at home I there’s people at home. Go ahead and tell them March. No. Oh, yeah. I’m going to let you with the You know, we have the hot dogs at our place that run the race. The mustard ketchup. But yeah, and I’ve had to go against mustard at home. I do like, you know, now you’re making me tell people across the country, I do like mustard. I just don’t like the one that runs around our ballpark. There’s a battle going on there. So Dan, when you come to There you go. When you come to Progressive, I will make sure you get dogs and I’ll bring mustard or to you. But I couldn’t admit it on air till I was sitting with you. Yeah, we’ll have we’ll have one of these sitting in your booth for you. But you got to have a dog at the ballpoint. Absolutely. You got to have a dog. I figured that was the way to celebrate. And only Jason Benetti could get that out of me. Yeah, right. Trust me, Benetti’s a couple way he he had an inkling this was coming. Trust me. I did a Sunday game with him a few years back and he was eating hot dogs on the air. On the air? Yeah, he was. I did tell he tried to give me one. Don’t do that. Not on the air. Dan, I did say I’ll bring the dogs up, but we’re not eating them on air. They’re not getting that video of us. Got that right. They don’t know the guy we got working for us. Those pictures will last forever if we do that. And I’ve been known to uh get stuff caught in my throat and start flatbread the other day. For goodness sake, I heard about that. I heard Hey, man, I dig deep. Arch will tell you. Can’t eat popcorn. That’s going to get caught in the throat every time. Well, I see you’ve got your own lunch here. Oranges, everything. Little yogurt. He had cere cereal, yogurt, the whole nine yards. He’s trying to be He’s trying to be in the big leagues for 50 like you, buddy. This hot dog though, I can’t wait to get to it in the break. One and two on Dylan Dingler. And then the broadcast career began, Arch, right after closely. Yeah, about a year. A year and a half after Yeah, it’s been the best ever since. Been doing that twice as long as I played. So, well, you would have coached, but then you realized that might not last as long. I would have been fired before I got ground ball to third. Diving stop and Wilson off the glove on a tailing throw of Monardo. Sweeny around third. He will take the big turn and the hole. Dan, were you surprised that they held him there? Because I know you guys have been extra aggressive coming around third base this season and it’s been a positive for the Tigers. I thought he was going to go. So did I. I thought he was going to go. I mean, that’s part of the game plan now. And again, you guys have been watching this for years. I was asking Riley Green and talking to Riley Green about it the other day as the trainers come out to check on Monzardo and says, “I’m fine.” Brian Green was saying this is our identity. And Rick, you know, when you have an aggressive base running team, it leads to putting pressure on the opponents, mistakes on the opponents, even running hard down to first base, right? But it also energizes the dugout and leads to better at bats because you got more guys in scoring position. It’s contagious and you have to do it. And as many runs as youse guys score that it it’s a good thing because that’s when you can get aggressive. It’s tough to be aggressive when you’re down in the, you know, losing in a ball game. You don’t want to make outs on the bases. You also just said it, Dan, which is really important. It puts pressure on those defenders because they know every time a Tiger leaves that box, they are running at 100%. You’ve got to make the play and you have no false time. You got to get it out. Force outfielders to make throws. Yes, you you’ve got to force outfielders to make throws. We We started out the year doing that on sack flies. We challenged every everybody. Well, Arch, you make a great point and Dan, this is something to remember now that we’re we’re getting to Memorial Day. You know, Arch said this and he always keeps little things in his pocket. Goes early in the season, you got to be aggressive against outfielders because they’re not ready to throw yet, you know, like especially so you take advantage of that early and that can become your identity. And it really started mid August of last year for the Tigers. They kind of remade the roster at the trade deadline to center field. Get to that hot dog time. Zack McKinis home run earlier flies out to end the bottom of the seventh inning. Tigers still lead by five. Yeah, I’m the king of TK Scubble has needed 72, count them, 72 pitches to get through the first seven innings of this game. Incredible strike. Yeah, this is like old school, you know, where you guys throw strikes, you swing the bat. Unofficially on my scorecard, I’ve got a total of four at bats through seven innings and 23 batters that have gone to even a two ball count. Well, when you watch the tidiness of this guy today, he’s had uh two single digit innings, a seven and a nine, and then look at nothing over 13 pitches. That’s unbelievable. So, he struggled in the seventh and the fifth. Yeah, I guess he really did. That’s number 10. Fourth time this year that Scoo has reached double digits in strikeouts. This is just the second time this year he’s pitched into the eighth inning. Did not record an out. That was against Milwaukee. Eight is the longest of his career. It has been complete dominance from the get-go. I’m sure there’s no doubt he could complete this game if they wanted him to, but they may not want him to popped up perfect through five. And then Will Wilson let off the sixth inning, third pitch that he saw in that atbat. Double deep to the right center field gap. That was the first hit of the day. Eric Scubble says, “You’re not going to get me this time.” What makes that change up so good? The same arm speed and it’s going down and away. And you have to cover the middle in because he’s already proven to you there. He stayed right there again. And that’s off the end of the bat that time. Another easy ground ball out. MLB Sunday leadoff on the Roku channel is presented by T-Mobile. It’s the best 5G coverage in the game home and away. You see, Dan, the reason why you can’t you can’t cover 17 in of home play, you know, and when you’re a guy that can use both sides of it and you you you have the velocity he has and you got that great change up. You just got to cut it in half and pick one pitch that you want to sit on to try and eliminate some of his weapons. We haven’t even seen him throw but a couple of breaking balls. That’s it. I mean, when you look at it, it’s been a handful. He’s just been fast ball slider or change up. That’s how good he’s been. There’s the change up right there. Now, if you want to sit change up, sit and look away, but don’t swing at anything in. So, I mean, as a hitter, that just makes you eliminate it. Doubt in your own mind. You may not hit it, but you got I mean, you got a game plan, and that’s what the teams that have like Cleveland last year had success against him. really sticking to that game plan. Austin Hedges is seeing nothing but off speed, which is really interesting because three for eight for Austin Hedges, this 180 career hitter. Three for 80 scuba coming in. And he’s seen nothing but off speed. Elevate the fast ball one time and take him off the change up. Watch this. Get it up. Ah, change up again. staying with the change up at 92. I mean, you know what I mean? A lot of pitchers can’t throw that hard and that’s his change up. And he stayed right with it. That’s the challenge. Wow. 11th strikeout for TK Scubble in an incredible eight shutout innings. This copyrighted telecast is presented by the authority of the office of the commissioner of baseball and may not be reproduced or retransmitted in any form in the accounts and descriptions of this game may not be disseminated in without the express written consent. Nick Enright making his major league debut. Swing and miss stuff. Impressive swing and miss stuff in the minor leagues. Terrific story from Andre not about his battle with cancer. About to make his major league debut and then could not. Now he has worked his way back, fought cancer and electrifying 17 innings at TripleA earns him the call up. Oh, he’s not messing around, is he? Not right after these Tigers hitters struck out the first batter he faced. Second strikeout for Nick Enright from Cleveland to Miami. Back to Cleveland. He’s locating that fast ball. Tick Scooble. By the way, it’s either a handshake or a fist bump from the manager for the starting pitcher, meaning your day is done or you get to keep keep on. What does he usually do? Does he the handshake? You can usually predict the handshake. So the handshake means you’re done. Teroo got the fist bump from his manager AJ Hinch, which means he may give him a chance to go out. He’s going to go out and have a shot at his first career. Game face on right there. He’s not smiling. He’s still looking. Nobody getting loose in the Tigers bullpen. And his pitch count, it’s all about being efficient. 85. hooking deep down the left field line and fouled. That’s a Greg Maddox. You know, it’s complete game. 85 pitches and he’s earned the right to go back out there. You got to I mean, when you got a manager like AJ, he’s, you know, you’ve earned the right to go back out there and you know what? It’s an honor to complete a game nowadays because it’s not a big thing like it used to be. League leaders two or three now, right? Tigers had one last year. That was Kater Montero. And he did throw the Maddox. Yeah. Under a 100 pitches. You know, you got to love that. I mean, it’s a thing of the past. We’re seeing guys now it’s turning into where most starters are five inning pitchers because they’re out of their pitch count at 100 in five innings because you throw a lot of pitches, you walk guys or you’re fouling balls off. This is a a treat to see. Yeah, whatever team that Ace is on power guy with this kind of command, you just love watching pitchers with complete command of their repertoire, right? And the power stuff. And that’s that speaks how tough it is to throw a no hitter in in baseball when you see a guy that goes out there every day like or every five days like Scooble does. He’s giving up two hits. But you know what? It could very It could very easily be a no hitter, too, if you get a little luck. But you’re right. It brings up how hard it is to throw a no hitter. It sure does. You do need a little luck always. Absolutely. It’s like getting a hole in one in golf. I’d rather hit one off the tree than hit it right in. That means you’re lucky. This one’s deep to right. A long run for Noel. And he’ll track it down, gliding to the corner. Ninth pitch of the atbat. Good running catch for John Kenzie Noel for the second out here in the bottom of the eighth. 10 men to the plate in a fiveun fourth inning. That’s the difference in the game. McKinry got the scoring started with a two-run home run. Torres had an RBI double in that fiveun fourth. At that point, he had reached eight consecutive times. He finally made an out in his last atbat. Yeah, he’s had a good series. Came out in the first game. Pitch bounces. The 1-1 from Enright gets the call at the belt. Guardians pitching dominated through the first three games of this series. Bullpen’s been very good today. Nick Ben just made a heck of a major league debut. Struck out three in two scoreless innings of work. for the first time in his career. Terrikal taking the mound in the ninth inning. Terrick Scubel wife Jessica son Kase. This is him receiving the Sai Young award last year. The unanimous Sai Young award winner in 2024. And now this crowd erupted when he came out of the dugout. Charged out to the mound. Yeah. I mean it’s such a treat for the fans. Last year’s pitching triple crown led the big in wins erra strikeouts. What a year. 912 hitters to face him. Hardly a two ball count. This is the 27th batter has faced. You get to see a starter finish his game and it’s still 98. This crowd got on its feet. Big crowd on this Sunday morning into Sunday afternoon. 12 strikeouts for Terk Schuber. That’s a nice little change up to the left-hander inside. You can see how much damage he can do to a lineup with just two pitches. 90th pitch of the day is 99. Everybody owe for something today except for a couple to third. Az takes care of Martinez. Two outs in the ninth. Scoob from the crowd. Gabriel Aras the last hope for the Guardians. 100. Come right back with that change up. I think he’s going to finish him with the change up. That’s been his pitch today. I’m sure he has that in his back pocket anytime. He can’t hear it. Just put down a wiggle. I know what’s coming. You don’t need to tell them anything. The Tigers burn a mound visit here in the ninth with two outs. Yeah, with 93 pitches. That’s because it’s not working. Go old school. Little little wiggle. That means change up. Guardians down to their last strike. Got him on a 103 mph fast. Terrence Scubble’s 13th strikeout ends his first career complete game. Brilliant. Only 95 pitches to finish this game. Rick, that’s just special. It’s Yeah, you don’t get to see this much anymore. And I mean, he was dominant from the first pitch of the ball game to the very last pitch. She was outstanding. Pitches with emotion, pitches with an attitude. It’s aggressive. It’s incredible stuff. And it was mostly just two types of fast balls and a change up today. Yeah, that’s all it took. And it was nice to see. Well, you had to give him the opportunity. 92 pitches, his teammates, and they needed to salvage a game in this series after losing the first three. And who better to have on the mound than that lefty right there. I love his reaction. He just stood and drank in the moment, didn’t he? Yeah, he did. That’s what you Look at him looking around. That’s what you’re supposed to do. That’s all that has to be said right there. First time into the ninth inning, he gets the chance to close it out because he was so incredibly efficient through the first five and six and seven innings. The pitch count was low and low and low and AJ Hinch said, “No, you get a chance to go out and close this thing out.” the rare complete game. Two batters over the minimum just 29 batters faced and he needed just 94 pitches. Is he coming back out? Huh? He going to be our guest today. It’s time for today’s electric player of the game presented by Chevrolet. Let’s go down to Andre Rick. So going through your first complete game and getting that Go ahead. You finish that. I got you. Be able to close out your own game. What did that mean to you today? Yeah, it’s pretty special. I mean, these fans are incredible. Uh, you know, when you run back out there for the ninth, the emotions that kind of run through me, I’m an emotional player and you take a second and you appreciate it for sure. Talk about that emotion. What does it mean to have your wife and kid here today that they’re sitting up here watching, enjoying this moment? That’s part of it, you know. Uh, sorry. It’s all right. Yeah, that’s really cool. All right. You’ve played against this Cleveland team. It’s been a part of your whole career. You’ve watched them. You’ve been in the playoffs against them. Knowing what happened in this series, how important was it in your mind to come out and establish and get back into this? Yeah, just salvage the series obviously. I mean, this team’s good and we played a very competitive series. We just come up on the wrong end of three of them. But, um, just to get a win and get back in the win column and take some momentum into San Francisco is going to be huge for us. For you going with a different catcher, I know you got a pitch and you got to throw it. What has Dingler been able to do to keep you comfortable to be able to do your job? Our catching department’s great. You know, Dingler, Rods, there’s a lot of communication that goes on down there and um, they’re both great. You know, anyone that we bring up too, I mean, it’s it’s it’s a ton of fun. that department’s great at their job. You know, as we’re listening to Dan talk about whether you got a handshake or a fist bump in the eighth inning, what does it mean for your manager when your manager comes to you and says, “Hey, go out there and finish this off.” Cuz you haven’t heard that very often. Yeah, there’s sometimes you’re tired and you kind of want the handshake and there’s other times you want the fist bump and tonight was a fist bump. You know, I wanted to finish this myself. That was a great job. This crowd enjoyed it. Enjoy the rest of your day, man. We appreciate your time. Thank you. Thank you. Back to you, Dan. Wow. Oh, you could see the emotion, Rick, when he talked to when Andre asked him about Jessica and his son Kase being here. The emotion, the wiping away a tear. They mean everything to him. And who was the first person he talked about when he accepted a Sai Young award last year? Jessica, his wife, his little guy is a mini me. And every game before he goes out the bullpen, he hands a ball to little K. Yeah. They’re expecting their second soon. And that’s that’s a pretty neat moment. And what a reaction from Terry. And the Detroit fans are lucky to have this young man around. You’re going to get a chance to see him for a long time. That’s great. He’s special. And uh you can tell that meant a lot to TK Scubble. Well, that was quite a performance. Don’t go anywhere. Thanks for watching. But we’re coming back. back. We’re going to break down all the action from this afternoon’s game on the MLB Sunday leadoff post game showed. Terrick Scubel pitching into the ninth inning for the first time. Low pitch count and AJ Hinch knew he could finish it off and he did in grand style. 13 strikeouts in a dominant performance. We’re back to talk about it next.
