Why wasn’t this ruled a safety? | Detroit Lions Vs Dallas Cowboys

All right, we had a controversial call here, a controversial review in the Lions Cowboys game. Uh, let’s set the stage right here. I paused it. You see, it’s a third down and five. Cowboys at their own 11. So, they feel comfortable that they can pass here. If it’s a sack, they they should not have to worry about a safety, right? Except on this play, Dak takes way too deep of a drop and ends up getting tackled right at the line. And the question is, is this a safety or is this not? the officials, and this is important, call it a safety on the field, meaning that you need undisputable evidence to overturn it. I’ll cut over here. I think this is going to be the best angle we see. Again, it’s worth noting um the replay officials do sometimes have angles that don’t get shown on the broadcast. The broadcast has access to all those angles, but sometimes they just simply don’t show it. However, you see, I’m going to pause this right when Dak looks to start to get tackled, right? This is when the tackle appears to begin. Again, worth noting here, there’s forward progress. So eventually Dak is going to get pulled back into the end zone with the football. At that but at that point it doesn’t matter. It’s when does the forward progress end is when the play uh when the play is over and again what counts as the safety just one you know little sliver of the ball has to be over the goal line. It’s the same as a touchdown. Just uh part of the ball is over the goal line when the play ends. It is ruled a safety. Listen, this angle makes it look like the ball is a little bit further back than it is cuz you see how you know this isn’t right on the goal line. This is a little bit over. I’m not sure why. Maybe have the camera be right on the goal line instead of at like the one yard line. Not sure why we’re doing that. But ultimately with this angle, I mean, I don’t see how you can overturn the call at the very least. It looks like it’s close to a safety. I I again I I can see an argument for why maybe it should have been at the one one inch line. But again, it was ruled a safety on the field. I think I think either way with the angles we have, you have to just call what it is on the field. However, it was ruled down at the uh one yard line. The Cowboys punted and the Lions took advantage of the short field and scored a touchdown. So, I guess they can’t complain too much about how it ended up working out for them.

  1. NO IT'S A FUCKING SAFETY. I was so hyped when this happened because I love a safety. He was down in the end zone, with the ball. Forward progress doesn't matter in a SACK.

  2. When did the Lions get cheerleaders? Used to be they couldn't find any good looking women in the Detriot area so they never had um. Surprised they aren't wearing burkas though.

  3. If the forward progress stops once the player is touched, effectively ending the play.. then why is the "Tush Push" allowed? According to the reasoning here from the league, the play should end once the players progress is ended by the touch of them.. It is clear Prescott had no forward progress as he was backing up.. Just another bullshit call by "New York". not the on field officials fault on this one..

  4. That was a safety. Qb was moving backward before he was in the grasp but he was still moving and so it’s still live until he is grounded. At no point was he moving forward

  5. Literally shows from the side view the ball was passed the goal line…so by rule…no safety

In this video it don't show the angle they showed during the game.

  6. It wasnt ruled a safety because there's special rules for the Lions. The league doesn't like Detroit so whenever possible they try to screw the Lions with bs calls & penalties. The NFL is rigged for certain teams and markets. The NFL is a huge business and its all about the money, as always. There's better things to do with ones time than watch millionares play sports & drink beer.

  7. It seems to be quite clear he’s referees are ruling for the Dallas Cowboys. This is not the first time the Lions were robbed of a win. He was in the playoffs. The man reported to the referee. The referee said no he did not. It was clearly shown on video that he did report his referee was fired after the game, but it doesn’t matter when you cost the team to win the game. This man reported like I said, and he caught the touchdown to win the game, but this referee said no he didn’t report to me and he lied so I wonder how much money did that referees get paid before he lost his job and what are you doing now? Is he flipping hamburgers at McDonald’s? Because I hope it was worth it because it cost the Detroit Lions a chance to play for the final NFC championship game, which that team would’ve went to the Super Bowl and it could’ve been the Lions but because of this referee, Dallas went on to play the Philadelphia Eagles and lost. I’m surprised they didn’t have a referee making a bad call on that game that would cost the Eagles a chance to go to the Super Bowl so I haven’t forgotten. This is not the first time a referee has made it back home, and this referee should be fired for his actions. Clearly was in the end zone ball did not break the plane of the end zone so it’s not the first time somebody needs to check some bank account. That’s all I have to say.

  8. So the refs can choose when a player is down at anytime? They can say he is down on contact or down when and where he is taken to the ground?

  9. How about the offsides no call? Line judge only has one job and is on video clearly watching. These are NOT missed calls or difficult calls and they got nothing to do with "full time refs" which is just a deflection. The refs manipulate outcomes, nudge results and the nfl is complicit. They routinely lie about it, remove video replay, push rules into ten part legal analysis and give refs discretion to make bad calls. It's corrupt as fck.

  10. The call was complete BS because at that point they had not ruled that his forward progress was stopped.
How many times have we seen a QB in the grasp of defenders break free and make a play downfield?
He was bullrushed 2 yards backwards meaning that easily should have been a safety.

  11. It was a clear safety. Makes a person question what else they have gotten wrong. I have already gotten to the point that I watch very little football as a result of wrong calls. I'm sure I'm going to get to the point where I won't even watch football at all

  12. It seems to me from now on in NFL anytime the QB is touched they should be considered down. The NFL and Soccer are the only two pro sports that seems replay is worse for the game than better

  13. It’s typical que the so called “referees” make wrong calls against Detroit. Many times I’ve witnessed that very clear fouls from other teams against Detroit are not counted, but they do count very objectionable fouls against Detroit. There were a few of these in this game.

  14. We won rhe game…however….this call was bogus. I swear these days it seems like players and officials are dropping good plays. Jerry jeudy gave up on a ball…so did rhe cowboys player in that game.
